Aruba, No Matter How You Spin it … the Airport Numbers were Down for 2006

Aruba continues the excuse and play the  spin game with regards to traffic to their airport. We all know that numbers can be manipulated to state any outcome; however, the AAA cannot spin away the fact that 4% less people used the airport in Aruba in 2006 as compared to 2005. It is a remarkable fact that their number continues to go downward. When is a 4% decrease in airport traffic a good thing? When the airport is in Aruba.

In 2006, 1.638.126 passengers used the airport compared with 1.714.523 in 2005; a drop of 4 percent.

Aruba continues to make every excuse as to the reason for the decreases, except for the obvious and most notable one.

There was a slight decrease in the region; Aruba had a forceful decrease.   This can be blamed on the increased room rates of the hotels, the reduced availability of the hotel rooms due to renovations, and the enormous increase of the oil price.  

Aruba believes that if they throw money at the problem that will solve their problem. However, we know different. Justice for Natalee solves their problem. The sooner they figure it out, the sooner Aruba can go on.

Steinmetz anticipates that qua number of passengers, AAA will be back on the level of 2005 in 2007.   A lot of money is going to be invested in the airport on the runway, the runway lighting, the taxiway, the aprons, and the departure hall for travelers to the US .

ORANJESTAD – Despite the drop in the number of passengers in the first 7 months of 2006, Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) closed the year with the same financial result as in 2005.   The reason for this is that there was an increase in the number of passengers in the last months of 2006 and because of the considerable cut in the operational costs.

Traffic Fatalities Up in Aruba, Drug Confiscation Up & that 2005 Crime still Unsolved

So you are thinking about renting a car at the airport on “One Happy Island”? You may want to rethink that choice, traffic fatalities are up in 2007. Although there are no traffic accident statistics in this article it does appear that there always seem to be a bad accident covered in the pages of Diario and Bon Dia.

Police Corps Aruba ( KPA ) is very concerned about the 11 persons that died in traffic this year, and we are only in the fifth month.   In the entire year of 2006, the number of persons that died in traffic was 14.       The reasons for the accidents were in almost all the cases irresponsible driving.   This has to change, because if it continues, the figures of 2007 will be much higher. Check out the amount of drugs that have been confiscated in Aruba by the police in 2007 as compared to 2006. Does anyone think there is not a rise in drug use to correlate with this number?

Another priority of the KPA is tackling the local drug dealings and sale.   It causes inconvenience and criminality.   Compared to 2006, the police have confiscated almost 600 cocaine and 50 kilo heroine versus 109 and 12 in 2006.

There were 12 reported robberies a day in Aruba in 2006. Wow, that seems like an extremely large number for an island on 100K in population. Then there is the final statistic, the number of deadly criminal offenses in 2006. However, it is not the solved deadly criminal offenses in 2006 that is Aruba’s problem. It is that one unsolved crime  in 2005 that hangs over Aruba like a dark cloud and will continue to do so in to the future until there is “Justice for Natalee”.

Aruba Needs to Create Many Buffers in Order to Protect Tourists, Not just on the Ocean

Aruba plans to create a buffer zone on the water due to the “dangerous situations that take place along the coast daily”. If Aruba is looking to protect tourists on the water they may want to think about protecting them other places as well on “One Happy Island”.

Aruba may want to create a “buffer zone” as well at places like Carlos n’ Charlies between American female tourists and those in Aruba that prey on them. If they had such measures maybe da pimps would not make it a sport to prey on females like they had done “20 times before”.

 – dutch boys hang around the bar drinking beer, they aren’t up to “smooth talking” the girls. On Aruba there are a lot of hot tourist girls ready for a 1 night stand or holiday romance. If a girl doesn’t take to you you will realize this pretty soon and move on. It is a lot easier than in the Netherlands.

- American girls are the loosest/wildest of the lot, Joran thinks it is due to the fact that you can buy a drink here when you are under 21 (American drinking age). Joran says in Aruba you can order a drink if you barely are taller than the bar itself. (excerpt from JVDS book)

As an aside, does anyone in Aruba have an forethought when they create service department names and acronyms? The name of the of the department that created the buffer zone is DIP? What’s next, the Aruba Sign Society?

Well Greta, maybe that is going to happen. With all the lies that these three suspects have made who is to say that Natalee Holloway was not at the Kalpoe residence or any of the other friends of Joran, Deepak or Satish?
