Domino’s Pizza is suing the federal govenment because of the Obamacare mandate to cover contraception. The founder of Domino’s, Tom Monaghan presently offers health insurance that excludes contraception and abortion for employees. Monagan is a devout Roman Catholic and believes that contraception is not health care and instead is a “gravely immoral” practice. Where are the liberals now when it comes to “separation of church and state”? What happened to freedom of Religion? What ever happened to Liberty and the Constitution in the United States?
The founder of Domino’s Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the new health care law.
Tom Monaghan, a devout Roman Catholic, says contraception is not health care and instead is a “gravely immoral” practice. He’s a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court, along with his Domino’s Farms, which runs an office park near Ann Arbor.
Monaghan offers health insurance that excludes contraception and abortion for employees. The new law requires employers to offer insurance that includes contraception coverage or risk fines. Monaghan says the law violates his constitutional rights, and he’s asking a judge to strike down the mandate.
Once again we see that for Barack Obama, this ain’t 2008 anymore. Obama’s war on religion taking its toll on his poll numbers.
In the 2008 Presidential election, Barack Obama won the Catholic vote by nine points, 54% to 45%, over John McCain on his way to a seven-point victory. That was then, this is now. According to the most recent Gallup poll, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are tied with the Catholic vote at 46% to 46%. Protestants are also supporting Romney by 9 points, 51% to 41%. As stated at Hot Air, it would appear that Obama has completely alienated and lost millions of Catholic votes after announcing the HHS mandate that would force religious hospitals, schools, and charities to fund contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients.
Catholic voters in the United States are evenly split in their support for Barack Obama and Mitt Romney for president, mirroring the national trend. However, Hispanic Catholics — about 18% of the total group of Catholic voters — are overwhelmingly likely to support Obama over Romney, while a majority of non-Hispanic white Catholics support Romney.
Catholics constitute almost one in four voters in the U.S. today. Did Obama really want to upset that voting block? Also, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops have not relented on the issue of the HHS mandate, and have been so provoked by Obama that they will be openly campaigning against Obama. Fear not Barack Obama, you seem to have a leg up with the heathen vote.
Religious White Catholics Support Romney; the Nonreligious, Obama
Non-Hispanic white Catholics themselves, who make up 75% of all Catholic registered voters, are far from monolithic in their vote choice. As a general rule in today’s political world, the more religious the American, the more likely he or she is to be a Republican and vote for Republican candidates. This rule of thumb is evident among white Catholic voters. Among non-Hispanic white Catholics whom Gallup categorizes as “very religious” or “moderately religious,” Romney wins over Obama by 30- and 22-point margins, respectively. Among nonreligious Catholics, Obama wins by 54% to 40%.
Leftist Activist Contraception Queen Sandra Fluke Wants Gender Reassignment to be Paid for by Health Insurance
The slippery liberal slope from contraception to gender reassignment … Its all just one huge LEFTIST AGENDA.
Sorry, the Sandra Fluke “contraception” controversy was a set up from the outset … Nothing that the LEFT ever does is because it just happens. It is always contrived and “AstroTurfed”. Check out “Sandra Fluke, Gender Reassignment, and Health Insurance” from The College Politico. The heck with contraceptives being covered by insurance, this Fluke wants gender reassignment to be covered by health insurance as well. But as Patterico Pontifications states, all this will be ignored by the MSM, they are too busy attacking Rush.
Sandra Fluke is being sold by the left as something she’s not. Namely a random co-ed from Georgetown law who found herself mixed up in the latest front of the culture war who was simply looking to make sure needy women had access to birth control. That, of course, is not the case.
As many have already uncovered Sandra Fluke she is, in reality, a 30 year old long time liberal activist who enrolled at Georgetown with the express purpose of fighting for the school to pay for students’ birth control. She has been pushing for mandated coverage of contraceptives at Georgetown for at least three years according to the Washington Post.
However, as I discovered today, birth control is not all that Ms. Fluke believes private health insurance must cover. She also, apparently, believes that it is discrimination deserving of legal action if “gender reassignment” surgeries are not covered by employer provided health insurance. She makes these views clear in an article she co-edited with Karen Hu in the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.
How typical of the LEFT … anyone who does not cover something as outlandish as a sex change is being discriminatory.
From the College Politico, here is an excerpt of Employment Discrimination Against LGBTQ Persons appearing in the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law’s Annual Review 2001:
Discrimination typically takes two forms: first, direct discrimination limiting access to benefits specifically needed by LGBTQ persons, and secondly, the unavailability of family-related benefits to LGBTQ families.
Their “prime example” of the first form of discrimination? Not covering sex change operations:
A prime example of direct discrimination is denying insurance coverage for medical needs of transgender persons physically transitioning to the other gender.
