Treasury Department Watchdog: IRS Failed to Notify Over 1 Million People of Identity Theft

As reported at The Hill, the IRS failed to notify over one million American tax payers of identity theft from 2011 through 2015. How on earth does a U.S.  government agency not notify an American tax payer of identity theft? The watchdog also found that the IRS does not have an effective process in place to make sure that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is alerted about earnings not associated with ID-theft victims. WHAT!!! But instead we get the following from this disgraceful agency, during hearings in April, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said that the agency doesn’t go after the immigrants who do this because the agency wants them to pay the taxes they owe. What the hell does that have to do with alerting victims of identity theft? The IRS would rather collect the money from illegals than stop the felony crime of identity theft and the hassle that it causes victims? UNREAL. As Hot Air opines, “So there you have it. The IRS has known this was a problem since 2011. Since then it has identified an additional 1.1 million victims of employment related identity theft and, with the exception of a 2014 pilot program, failed to notify the victims … because they don’t want to discourage the illegal immigrants who use identity theft to get a job from filing tax returns.”

The IRS truly needs to be abolished and a new form of tax collection put in place.

The Internal Revenue Service identified close to 1.1 million taxpayers who were victims of employment-related identity theft from 2011 through 2015, but almost none of the victims were informed, a Treasury Department watchdog found in a report made public this week.

Employment-related identity theft can cause significant burden to taxpayers, including the incorrect computation of taxes based on income they did not earn,” said J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration, whose office issued the report.

Employment-related identity theft is when someone uses another person’s Social Security number to get a job. The IRS identifies cases of employment-related ID theft when electronic tax returns are filed with an individual taxpayer identification number that doesn’t match income documents associated with the accompanying Social Security number.

The issue has gotten attention in Congress, in part because people in the country illegally tend to be the ones using other people’s Social Security numbers to get jobs. During hearings in April, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said that the agency doesn’t go after the immigrants who do this because the agency wants them to pay the taxes they owe. Koskinen’s comments have drawn criticism from Republican lawmakers.

The inspector general report does not explicitly mention illegal immigration and does not discuss whether the IRS should be alerting immigration authorities. Instead, it focuses on the agency’s failure to notify people whose numbers were used by others.

The IRS is Not Notifying or Providing Sufficient Assistance to Victims of Employment-Related Identity Theft

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not currently notify taxpayers it identifies as victims of employment-related identity theft, nor has it established an effective process to ensure that it sends the required notice to the Social Security Administration (SSA) to alert the SSA of earnings not associated with a victim of employment-related identity theft.

These are two significant findings in an audit report that the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) publicly released today.

Employment-related identity theft occurs when someone uses the identity of another person to gain employment. Taxpayers may first realize they are victims of this type of crime when they receive an IRS notice of a discrepancy in the income they reported on their tax return.

The IRS’s Automated Underreporter (AUR) program identifies such discrepancies when it matches taxpayer income reported on third-party information returns (e.g., Forms W-2, Wage and Income Statement) to amounts that taxpayers report on their individual income tax returns.

TIGTA conducted this audit to evaluate the IRS’s AUR processes to identify and assist victims of identity theft. In July 2011, TIGTA reported that the IRS was in a unique position to identify cases of employment-related identity theft. TIGTA recommended that the IRS implement procedures to timely alert taxpayers when it becomes aware that their identity was stolen. However, in this review, TIGTA determined that taxpayers are still not notified.

During the period February 2011 to December 2015, the IRS identified almost 1.1 million taxpayers who were victims of employment-related identity theft. In April 2014, the IRS started a pilot initiative to begin notifying taxpayers that they may be a victim of employment-related identity theft. TIGTA’s review of the pilot notification initiative found that the IRS did not sufficiently design the pilot to include a representative sample of employment-related identity theft victims.

Further, TIGTA found that the IRS has not established an effective process to ensure that it sends the required notice to alert the SSA of earnings not associated with a victim of employment-related identity theft. TIGTA’s review of a statistically valid sample of 71 cases from the population of 1,878 Tax Year 2013 AUR cases closed as identity theft (i.e., cases that involved a discrepancy related to wages reported on the tax return) identified that the SSA has no record of receiving an IRS notice for 15 (21 percent) of the 71 cases.

“Employment-related identity theft can cause significant burden to taxpayers, including the incorrect computation of taxes based on income they did not earn,” said J. Russell George, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

TIGTA made four recommendations in the report. The IRS agreed with three recommendations and partially agreed with the fourth. The IRS plans to take corrective action on the recommendations. In its response to TIGTA’s report, the IRS stated that it has scheduled programming changes that will be implemented in January 2017 to notify taxpayers when the IRS has reason to believe they may be victims of identity theft.

Donald Trump’s Presented a 10-Point Immigration Plan During Immigration Speech (VIDEO)

Last night in Phoenix, Arizona, Donald Trump presented his 10-point plan on immigration that provided details on his plans for controlling the Mexican border and deporting some illegal immigrants, as well as cutting back on legal immigration. Take a look at the points below, exactly what part of this is so bad? The MSM would have you believe this plan is evil. Really? How is protecting American sovereignty, securing the border against individuals illegally entering and terrorists a bad thing? How is departing illegal criminals so they can’t kill innocent Americans bad? And how is canceling Obama’s illegal, unconstitutional executive orders that even the SCOTUS has blocked bad? Sorry, his plan actually makes a lot of sense and he even stated at the end of his speech that once the borders have been controlled and immigration is under control, we can then deal with the illegals that came in to the country and have stayed out of trouble. That actually sounds rational.

Number One: We will build a wall along the southern border
Number Two: End ‘catch-and-release’
Number Three: Zero tolerance for criminal aliens
Number Four: Block funding for Sanctuary Cities
Number Five: Cancel unconstitutional executive orders and enforce all immigration laws
Number Six: We are going to suspend the issuance of visas to any place where adequate screening cannot occur
Number Seven: We will ensure that other countries take their people back when we order them deported
Number Eight: We will finally complete the biometric entry-exit visa tracking system
Number Nine: We will turn off the jobs and benefits magnet
Number 10: We will reform legal immigration to serve the best interests of America and its workers

The MSM was whining that Trump did not pivot and go against the very things that got him the GOP nomination. So why was the MSM so pissed? Maybe because they had already wrote the stories of how Trump was a waffler.

The Week:

Trump went through his 10-step policy to combat illegal immigration and strengthen legal immigration, including his famous call for a “great wall along the southern border. Mexico will pay, 100 percent. They don’t know it yet, but they’re gonna pay for it.” This wall, he continued, will be built on “Day 1″ of a Trump presidency, and will be “impenetrable, tall, powerful, [and] beautiful” with “above and below ground sensors, towers, aerial surveillance.” Also on Day 1, in fact in his “first hour in office,” he would make sure that “criminal aliens” are deported, Trump said, and he would “issue detainers for illegal immigrants arrested for any crime whatsoever.”

Trump went on to say “there will be no amnesty,” and he would triple the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and start a new deportation task force, which he suggested could possibly also deport his opponent, American citizen Hillary Clinton. He also said that anyone who “illegally crosses the border will be detained until they are removed out of our country” and he would “cancel unconstitutional executive orders and enforce all immigration orders.” When it comes to legal immigration, Trump said he wants to see “extreme vetting,” and new screening tests “to make sure those we are admitting to our country share our values and love our people.” He would suspend immigration from Syria and Libya, instead setting up safe zones in their countries

Of course the cockroach critics were out in force following his speech calling it dark and grim.  America, if you have not figured it out yet, all Trump is asking for and stating is for the United States to act on the laws that are already in place. we should be doing this anyhow, but instead we have a rouge administration that refuses to enforce the laws and special interests who control politicians.

Trump’s Full Immigration speech can be seen below … Watch it for yourself, don’t let the MSM spin it

Donald Trump’s Trip to Mexico and Meeting with Mexican President Nieto, a HUGE Win for Trump

As reported at the Washington Examiner, it turns out that Donald Trump’s Mexican gamble turned up Aces. It was a huge win for Trump as he went into the lion’s den and did not back down. Trump did not apologize for America, instead he held his ground and looked, sounded and acted presidential. Side by side with a foreign leader, one who prior to the meeting seemed to have little in common. However, following the meeting Mexican President Pena Nieto said, “I had a very open and constructive discussion with Donald Trump. Even though we may not agree on everything, I trust that together we will be able to find prosperity and security.” As Hilary Clinton and her minions looked small and criticized Trump for traveling to Mexico, as Powerline opined,  the meeting implicitly gave Trump the status of a head of state, Folks, that is big!

If Trump continues to do this, show the American people he has the right stuff, stay on message and hammer Clinton with her own words and actions … he will win. Americans know Hillary is a liar and can’t be trusted. Many need an extra added reason to not vote for her. That’s where a focused and on message Trump comes in.

About an hour before Donald Trump made his joint statement with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, a strategist in Trump’s extended circle saw success on the horizon.

“I bet they have a nice meeting where they both explain their positions and promise to talk further — it doesn’t have to be any more complicated than that,” the strategist explained. “If [Trump] just has a calm, behind-closed-doors meeting, has a photo taken, looks presidential, and gets out of town, that’s a big win.”

Indeed, it was a big win — a very big win — for Trump. Going into a meeting with the potential for disaster — who knew how Pena Nieto would receive the world’s most controversial presidential candidate or what embarrassments might lie ahead? — Trump came out of the meeting looking very much like a potential President of the United States. Standing beside the Mexican leader in front of a green-gray granite wall reminiscent of the United Nations, Trump presented the picture of a statesman.

Less than 24 hours earlier, Trump was reciting “The Snake” before a rowdy audience in Everett, Washington. In Mexico, he looked like a world leader.

Donald Trump Will Travel to Mexico City Today to Meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto

It’s On … GOP nominee Donald Trump to make historic campaign trip to Mexico Wednesday and meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

The WAPO is reporting that Donald Trump will travel to Mexico City today and meet with with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, just prior to Trump’s much anticipated immigration policy speech in Arizona later today. Late Tuesday night on his Twitter feed, Mr. Trump said he had “accepted the invitation of President Enrique Pena Nieto, of Mexico, and look very much forward to meeting him tomorrow.” President Nieto had invited both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to Mexico; however, only one has shown the leadership and where-with-all to take him up on his offer. Like  him or hate him, he certainly has CO-JONES! Despite previous death threats due to Donald’s tough talk regarding Mexico, illegal immigration, building a border wall and making Mexico pay for it, Trump is going anyways. This should be interesting, oh to be a fly on the wall.

According to reports, Trump will be accompanied on the Mexico trip by former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Sen. Jeff Sessions, Alabama Republican.

Donald Trump will travel to Mexico City on Wednesday for a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, just hours before he delivers a high-stakes speech in Arizona to clarify his views on immigration policy.

Peña Nieto last Friday invited both Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to visit Mexico, his office said in a statement provided to The Washington Post on Tuesday night.

Trump, sensing an opportunity, decided over the weekend to accept the invitation and push for a visit this week, according to the people in the United States and Mexico familiar with the discussions.

Late Tuesday, Trump and the Mexican president confirmed on Twitter that they will meet Wednesday.

UPDATE I: Mexico rages against Trump visit.

One can only shake their heads at the reaction of those in Mexico that are coming unglued by Donald Trump’s visit. Amigo’s, it is your president that invited Trump. I wonder what they are afraid of?

Reaction was fast and furious among those in the Mexican political cognoscenti.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox apologized on behalf of the country during an interview on CNN, accusing both Trump and Peña Nieto for using the occasion to exploit their own political opportunities.

“It’s a very opportunistic move, and I hope U.S. public opinion, U.S. citizens can see this and finally, and finally see what is behind Trump, this false prophet that is just cheating everybody,” Fox said during the Skype chat on “New Day” on Wednesday, adding that it is “a desperate move and I don’t see how it can work at all.”

The only way that inviting Trump makes sense for Mexico would be if Peña Nieto gets the Republican nominee to apologize for his past statements about Mexicans, Fox said, admitting that he did not understand the thinking of the current Mexican president while pronouncing Trump’s decision to visit “very smart.”

Fox had also reacted fiercely to the news Tuesday night, telling Trump that “[t]here is no turning back” from his offensive remarks about Mexicans, Muslims and others that he said “have led you to the pit where you are today.”

Added Fox, who previously apologized to the candidate after declaring that Mexico was not going to pay for “that f—-ing wall”: “¡Adiós, Trump!”
