Traffic Fatalities Up in Aruba, Drug Confiscation Up & that 2005 Crime still Unsolved

So you are thinking about renting a car at the airport on “One Happy Island”? You may ArubaCoffinPicwant to rethink that choice, traffic fatalities are up in 2007. Although there are no traffic accident statistics in this article it does appear that there always seem to be a bad accident covered in the pages of Diario and Bon Dia.

Police Corps Aruba ( KPA ) is very concerned about the 11 persons that died in traffic this year, and we are only in the fifth month.   In the entire year of 2006, the number of persons that died in traffic was 14.       The reasons for the accidents were in almost all the cases irresponsible driving.   This has to change, because if it continues, the figures of 2007 will be much higher. (Amigoe)

Check out the amount of drugs that have been confiscated in Aruba by the police in 2007 as compared to 2006. Does anyone think there is not a rise in drug use to correlate with this number?

Another priority of the KPA is tackling the local drug dealings and sale.   It causes inconvenience and criminality.   Compared to 2006, the police have confiscated almost 600 cocaine and 50 kilo heroine versus 109 and 12 in 2006.

Aruba NH weather

(Vanderbilt – ’07)

There were 12 reported robberies a day in Aruba in 2006. Wow, that seems like an extremely large number for an island on 100K in population. Then there is the final statistic, the number of deadly criminal offenses in 2006. However, it is not the solved deadly criminal offenses in 2006 that is Aruba’s problem. It is that one unsolved crime  in 2005 that hangs over Aruba like a dark cloud and will continue to do so in to the future until there is “Justice for Natalee”.

Amigoe; May 22, 2007: Police The number of fatal traffic accidents has to drop

Already eleven fatalities in traffic in 2007, and that is unacceptable for the police.

ORANJESTAD – Police Corps Aruba ( KPA ) is very concerned about the 11 persons that died in traffic this year, and we are only in the fifth month.   In the entire year of 2006, the number of persons that died in traffic was 14.       The reasons for the accidents were in almost all the cases irresponsible driving.   This has to change, because if it continues, the figures of 2007 will be much higher.

Driving back the number of fatal traffic accidents is one of the priorities of the corps.   The most important solution is to change the driving behavior.   One way to do this is to give a lot of information.     Joining other organizations in this will be of great advantage.   The number of collisions in San Nicolas, Noord, and Santa Cruz dropped slightly in 2006; from 6320 in 2005 to 6246 in 2006.   This however increased in Oranjestad with more than 200.   There were 7 fatal traffic accidents in Oranjestad.   Of the 14 deadly traffic accidents, 11 took place during the night.   Compared with 2005, the number of traffic violations didn’t increase in 2006.   As a matter of fact, it dropped drastically from 8808 to 7588.

Hospital figures show that 55 percent of the beds in the surgery ward are occupied by road victims.     Per day, an average of five traffic accident victims is treated on the intensive care.   The hospital can re-claim only 25 percent from the patients’ insurance companies.     The rest cannot be re-claims, because the victim is not insured or the policy does not cover the accident.

Another priority of the KPA is tackling the local drug dealings and sale.   It causes inconvenience and criminality.   Compared to 2006, the police have confiscated almost 600 cocaine and 50 kilo heroine versus 109 and 12 in 2006.

The superintendent is extremely pleased with the solution percentage of the number of deadly criminal offenses.   7 Persons were violently killed and the police have solved all the cases in 2006.   The number of offenses has increased.   This is to be blamed on the higher number of robberies (an average of 12 per day).   The number of stolen cars (2 every day) remained the same as in 2005.

      Absolutely, Miss U…

And countdown from when Natalee was last seen in the company of Paulus van der Sloot, before she was never seen again by her loving family, – something which Paulus van der Sloot LIED about immediately when being asked about Natalee by her grief stricken mother and father, something over which Paulus VDS orchestrated LIES for all the prime suspects to tell polis while conducting that Holiday Inn LIES Meeting at his house prior to the polis even visiting his property, something of which Paulus spoke of as “No corpse, no case” in the first day that Natalee was missing.

I’m still scratching my head … how come the travel agents never talk to you about this kind of stuff?

      I just can’t figure it out ….

Maybe if anyone can make the New Orleans convention at the end of June, which http://www.vacation.com is sponsoring for travel agents only, they can ask Aruba Tourism Authority to give out more info on this.

After all, the ATA certainly wants us to have an honest picture of Aruba … doesn’t it?

    11. simeon on May 24th, 2007 11:22 am

      Richard,

The reason they do not want to talk about it is because it is an ISOLATED incident.Sure there are hundreds of murders a year in Jamaica but rarely does it affect tourists.Regardless of what you may say or think, the fact is that Aruba is actually one of the safest places in the Caribbean and enjoys a high standard of living. If you were a car salesman, would you advertise the fact that the Accord is the most stolen car in America?Travel Agents want to make money, and if a customer wants to know about Aruba then the travel agent will advertise Arubas good points and try to close the sale…

I find it rather odd that Joran does not mention Guido so far in his book.
He has said they played racquet ball together (and whatever).
I believe Joran mentioned that he has met Freddy, Koen and Jaime at the racquet club.
He omits Guido yet he mentions croupiers at the Excelsior by name. UH?
Marco, Sandy Kirk, Elzeline Tromp and Michael Cornes.
Are these the dealers referenced in Shango’s riddle?
Are these the croupiers that Joran uses to win back losses for female tourists?
These are the ones Joran references concerning Natalee’s drinking habits.
Boy it sure gets deeper into the bowels of the island.
      Keep talking Joran…..

    16. Rastus on May 24th, 2007 12:26 pm

      Richard (#10),

      Quite simple.

Travel agents assume that when you come in to book travel you are

      1. An adult (well, not an assumption as that fact is usually obvious)
      2. You have accomplished enough research on your intended destination and such research has supported your desire to go.

      Couple of questions:

      1. Do airlines publish which aircraft they fly are the safest? Better yet, do airlines provide their FAA violations or NTSB incidents to folks who are going to fly? Take a look at ntsb.gov or ffa.gov and you can find these things.

      2. Do auto sales folks provide their customers with crash safety data on their particular makes/models? If they do, it is ONLY by customer request.

      3. Do convention bureaus for ATL, BNA, MCO, et al provide crime stats for their respective communities on their web sites? No.

      So there you have it.

    17. Vicki on May 24th, 2007 12:36 pm

Rastus, Lets see if you can COMPREHEND how we fel and whats gonna happen…Whereever and whenever we know that LIERUBA will have a booth, we will be standing outside telling everyone to be NATALEES VOICE and not to go to SATANS ISLAND..its not safe and should something happen to you or your loved one..you will get NO JUSTICE OR HELP. GIVE NATALEE BACK.

INCONVENIENCE AND CRIMINALITY? Are you kidding me? What about the DEATH drugs cause? No mention of the lives destroyed by drug addiction, the families torn apart, the violence done to others while under the influence of drugs. Don’t forget the crimes committed by drug dealers to sell their deadly product–the money laundered, the violence, the deaths associated with the trafficking of drugs. I’d call this more than INCONVENIENCE! Apparently, Aruba does not take the deaths and pain caused by drugs seriously if they consider this INCONVENIENT. Therein lies the problem–Aruba does not recognize the destructive nature of drugs and drug abuse, but is willing to sacrifice her people’s well being on the altar of greed.

Could Guido be the weakest link?

    23. Richard on May 24th, 2007 1:29 pm

It appears that our honorable guests Simeon and Rastus fail to appreciate the ironic vein in which I made post #10.

Obviously the goal of the travel agent is to make money … first and last.

It reminds me of a story I read recently about an American girl who was given a date-rape drug at a Mexican resort.

Fortunately, she recovered (at least, made it back home alive). When she told the travel agent about what had happened, the agent looked at her and said, “Oh, honey, that sort of thing happens ALL OVER THE PLACE down there.”

Bet she didn’t tell her that before she went ….

But obviously, based on what we’ve learned over the last two years, the “one happy island” image that Aruba has perpetrated and foisted upon the gullible public is a complete fraud. We who are dedicated to Natalee and her case know that full well; now we must spread the word.

BOYCOTT ARUBA! The life you save thereby may be your own.

Your five days is correct. ‘Dutch Investigators’ have stated that they have extended the two years on J2K indefinitely….but has anyone seen a court filing for this? Or a written proclamation that it is within the boundaries of ‘Dutch Law – Aruban Style’.

Of course not. I believe that we are victims of another ‘misinformation campaign’.

Watch for 2 years to hit and for J2K to file immediately with the courts to rule that they are no longer a suspect. Watch for huge backpedaling by the Dutch and Aruba to say something to the effect of “We can extend indefinitely suspect status….unless, under Dutch Law, the suspects file with the court to have themselves removed at two years”….then we have to remove them or show more evidence.

Whether it is May 30th or June 10th when the boys were arrested, watch for this trickery to be played in this judicial play.

It is really too bad about this whole thing. Based on Aruban/Dutch conduct over the past two years, you can virtually predict their next steps.

Again, they may remain as suspects after these dates….but you can bet $$$ that they will be filing with the courts to remove them as suspects….and then Dutch Law – Aruban Style will dictate that they must be removed.

      What a joke! md

    25. Rastus on May 24th, 2007 2:43 pm

#23, You are right, I guess I missed the irony in the fact that you want the government, travel agents, airlines, etc to do all your thinking for you and to do your research for you.

We had this conversation previously. It is about self responsibility and self reliance. No body watches out for your interests better than you do.

Guido left rather abruptly; but it was planned? Sold his WHITE car that was shadowing Deepak’s car that night. That’s why he had lawyers already in place when they arrested him. Boy is he psychic.
Joran’s BLACK EYE. How about a punch out of jealousy from Guido. Me thinks Joran plays too much on his masculinity and female conquests. IMO: my guess is he is AC/DC. And I don’t mean Brian Smith, Malcom or Angus either.
Second weakest link. Koen Gottenbos. He was at the Van der Sloot’s that night. His father sold the insurance business and within two months of Natalee’s disappearance moved his family to (according to Joran) USA. Does anyone know where?
Why doesn’t Paulus move off the island to avoid further heat?
      He is guarding a secret.

    27. sparrow on May 24th, 2007 3:39 pm

Minnesota Dad, I pray you’re wrong about us being victims again, but I also get the sad feeling that we may be disappointed with the Dutch investigators. Aruba is a joke. Rampant with all manners of transgressions. I wouldn’t consider a visit to such a dangerous place. joran & co killed Natalee Holloway there’s is no doubt in my world. No doubt that joran’s sweaty, sleazy dad helped kill and do anyway with Natalee’s body. It’s so evident who murderered Natalle, how terrible, what a tragedy. Poor child.

    28. Libby on May 24th, 2007 4:12 pm

They aren’t going to do a thing. The criminals will walk free…on earth that is. The Aruban government and the ALE have been playing the game now for two years. The so called search of the Vandersloot home, the K brothers home and the hut will be used to declare the predators no longer suspects because they didn’t find anything…go figure since they waited two years! It was all part of their game plan. Don’t you think it is rather ironic that they wait until just prior to the 2 year mark to make these so called searches? Now they can close their file because they have searched the homes of the last people known to have been with Natalee prior to her disappearance.

      Boycott Aruba!

Since three months into the Natalee Holloway investigation … the suspect status’ of Joran, Deepak have meant nothing. The conditions of their release were reversed and … there were no longer travel restrictins and … further interrogations had to be volunatry. Remember … in December, 2005 Joran was to be requestioned by ALE regarding a descrepancy in the timeline of his declarations. Steve Cohen stated that he was compelled to cooperate … Antonio Carlo stated that under Aruba law Joran was not compelled to cooperate. Guess who was right?
      .
      Alabama Associated Press – September 17, 2005
An Aruban court has ruled that three suspects in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway can remain free without conditions. Wednesday’s ruling overturned an earlier decision that restricted the suspects’ travel and required them to remain available to investigators.
      .
      Steve Cohen
      ‘Rita Cosby Live & Direct’ – Dec. 22, 2005
COSBY: That, of course, was the police chief talking to me last month here on the show. You know, Steve, as we hear that, is this a voluntary questioning or involuntary?
COHEN: Well, they can be compelled to come back because they continue to be suspects. Remember that when Joran was allowed to go begin school, that basically, the suspect characteristic had not been waived.
      .
      Antonio Carlo – Joran’s Attorney
      Live and Direct – December 30, 2005
CARLO: OK, the information that I can provide at this time is that my client, under the Aruban law, cannot be obligated to come before the (INAUDIBLE) prosecutor to answer questions because he has now — he has been released without any conditions. So under Aruban — under Aruban law, he cannot be obligated to be brought forth to answer questions.

I believe that the Dutch in Aruba has all been one huge horse and pony show prior to closing the Natalee Holloway case.
      .
I pray I am wrong but I believe the following is about to take place …
      .
The Natalee Holloway case will be closed.
      .
Aruba/Holland will concede an “incompetent” investigation. The world will be assured that those involved in the “incompetent” investigation no longer hold positions within law enforcement and … steps have been taken to assure this type of injustice will never be allowed to happen again.
      .
Think about it … justice for Natalee implies not only accountability by Joran and Paulus. It implies accountability by those at all levels of the Dutch/Aruban administrations who were involved or had knowledge of the coverup/corrupt investigation. Then there is the sons of the elite and … the judiciary. Also … justice has the ability to expose dirty little secrets that go beyond the Natalee Holloway case that encompass drugs … money laundering … prostitution … gambling … pornography.
      .
It grieves me but … my heart says that it is too late to turn back the clock … justice for Natalee Holloway is not going to happen … the implications for Holland and Aruba are too overwhelming.
      .
Think about it … Beth Twitty’s voice has been silent for a long time and … the few words that Dave Holloway has spoken publicly have been very guarded. I do believe that Natalee’s family is aware of the outcome.
      .
Again … I hope with all my heart that I am wrong.

1.Compared to 2006, the police have confiscated almost 600 cocaine and 50 kilo heroine versus 109 and 12 in 2006.

      2. Somehow this statement don’t match the United Nation’s in the next paragraph.. Huge number that are not sentenced.

7 Persons were violently killed and the police have solved all the cases in 2006. The number of offenses has increased. This is to be blamed on the higher number of robberies (an average of 12 per day). The number of stolen cars (2 every day) remained the same as in 2005.

The United Nations Committee against Torture goes on record and criticizes Aruba for their treatment of prisoners.
… the huge number of prisoners that are not sentenced in the Antilles and Aruba. They also criticized the sexual abuse and other violence against prisoners that is taking place in Aruba.

The committee also paid attention to the situation in Aruba, where sexual- and other violence is taking place against prisoners in the KIA. This is supposedly done by police officers and prison guards and/or they have no control over this.

3.ORANJESTAD – Police Corps Aruba ( KPA ) is very concerned about the 11 persons that died in traffic this year, and we are only in the fifth month.

4.Natalee Holloway poof vanishes on May 31st in the company of Joran Vander Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe, Satish Kalpoe. Oh she wanted to stay on a beach at 3 am in the dark because Joran had no condom.

5.Druggies on the beach reported, druggies on the beach looking into hotel rooms..

6.Max Devries poof vanished while water skiing.. and his family is investigated for an insurance scam.

7.Dave Holloway, was told watch his drink when he went to Carlos n Charlies they might drug it.

8.Rapes and date rate drugs..girls are told they will miss their planes and have to go through lots to report a rape.

9.Citizens marching the street protesting against the chollers..

      10. Numerous “suicides”

11.Mutilated body set on fire in a cave,,ruled a suicide.

      12. Decomposed bodies found..one a little boy they say

      13. Lying witnesses, framing people for crimes, drinking and gambling underage..

      14.Vanity Fair..Renfro.

Wednesday morning, as Beth gave her statement to police, Renfro and Munzenhofer met in the Holiday Inn’s lobby to organize the first search teams. After a series of radio announcements, a hundred tourists showed up, along with a smattering of Arubans and policemen. Jan van der Straaten, the crusty Dutch police superintendent who would end up working the case, was not happy. “Van der Straaten walks up and tells me, ‘You can’t do this,’” Renfro recalls. “I said, ‘Yes I can. I’m going to find this girl.’ He told me she wasn’t even considered ‘missing’ for 48 hours. In fact, he told me just to go to Ladies’ Night at Carlos ‘n Charlie’s that night, that she would probably show up there.
(Funny on June 5th Straten told a Dutch reporter, he thought Natalee was dead, he had seen the evidence)

More slander of the victim Natalee..
By now more of “the Fabulous Seven” had arrived. Eight men were in the group, and Munzenhofer’s husband took them to scout the downtown house where Natalee was supposed to be. It turned out to be what Arubans call a choller house-a crack house.

This statement just burns me up from Muzzlehead.. She personally knows Natalee wasn’t a virgin and was an alcoholic..

“We met Beth that first day, and Beth was like glue to us for about a month,” Munzenhofer says. “But then we just had to let her go, because I did not agree with what she was saying. She was lying. She got caught in too many lies. I understand it. She’s a grieving mother. I’m not against Beth. But, come on, her girl’s not a virgin. The girl’s an alcoholic. She was drinking…. I have personally talked to people who say Natalee bought drugs.

      15. Then comes the heartless press release, that there was a full confession, something bad happened and they were being led to the body early June. Natalee’s family was told it didn’t look good and they had began the grieving process.

16.Next is Oduber saying..he is sick of this case..

17.Next is the parade of AHATA spokespeople paraded out to lie too and about the victim and her family. Steve Cohen, the great American who went to Aruba to be a mouthpiece and feed everyone false information and to announce to a group of people 2 of the guys admitted to sex with Natalee and he and the prosecutor believes they are guilty. Arlene who appeared daily to lie.. to and about a grieving family, who only wanted their daughter..

      18. The cops who made repeated rude statements and trashing the victim and her family. Police who was rude to the family.

      19. The chief of police’s son trolling for tourists at the Holiday Inn with his friend, Admittance and Deepak that they would go out to pick up tourists, go dancing and sometimes all have sex in the same room. Joran says you lie to them and tell them you are a tourist to get them.

      20. Denegue fever

      21. 2 years without searching the full properties of the one’s last seen with Natalee. And why did Deepak get his car back if the case was still being investigated.. He should still not have his car back??!!!
approx 73,000 people, 19 miles long, 5 miles wide.

      22. The main suspect’s father friend Straten,is investigating the case..he worked with all of them for years and is friends of theirs. A drug cop is put on the case to investigate a murder.. Dennis Jacobs.

What a place to spend your hard earned money for a vacation…One big Happy..&*^*$* in denial.

    38. Maggie on May 24th, 2007 7:32 pm

ps, Don’t forget a father and the 3 suspects all getting together to make up more stories and lies in the dark of night, never going to search , while a father, mother and stepfather are out looking through the dump, crackhouses and anywhere they can for answers to where their child is..

    39. Richard on May 24th, 2007 9:42 pm

I think that some of the posters above who are saying that the Dutch, Aruba, or both might suddenly switch gears on us (once again) and declare the case closed could well be right.

I hope not … but what I hope or fear doesn’t matter.

I would think they would be a little more subtle about it: not declare the case over, but simply stop carrying out investigations for lack of new evidence. But who knows?

In re the subject of this thread: of all the traffic accidents in Aruba this year, how many are blamed on tourists and how many on the locals? Would be good to know.

    40. Richard on May 24th, 2007 9:45 pm

Maggie (#37) … In your litany, don’t forget that crew members of the cruise ship on which Amy Bradley was traveling with her family in March 1998 specifically asked her parents if they could bring her to Carlos ‘n’ Charlies on the night the ship docked in Aruba.

Amy refused, calling them “a bunch of creeps.” She vanished from the ship the next morning, as it was docking at Curacao.

The family have thought that Amy’s disappearance might have been planned at Carlos ‘n’ Charlies, had she gone along.

      In the event, she didn’t.

      34. Janet

I think you hit the nail on the head as to how they will close the case. It will be just another slap in the face.

They aren’t going to do anything and justice (on earth that is) will never happen. They don’t care about Natalee, they don’t care about her family and they don’t care about Americans. If they cared, they would give Natalee and her family justice. In my opinion this whole thing is a joke to them. They just keep insulting us with their pretend investigations / searches. From day one, they planned on doing nothing but make fools out of us. I mean, seriously, if you look back at how they have handled the case from day one, it is insulting. I hope they all rot in he**. Aruba is going down though. It will never be the same there. They may get back some respect if they do what is right…but they won’t. Again, they don’t care. All they care about is themselves.

Natalee is in a better place…a place where Paulus, his buddies and the predators will never see.

      Boycott Aruba…forever.

    42. Joanie on May 25th, 2007 1:26 am

Oh, Mr Rastus, you have ALL the answers don’t you? So, tell me all knowing one; find me the web site, brochure or magazine that details what sort of criminal activity goes on in these islands south of the USA. Please tell me where on the Aruba Tourism site it warns us to be careful of people who use date rape drugs. Since you have all the answers, I am sure you can enlighten us with your worldly wisdom on such things. Travel agents don’t care if a tourist gets raped or not. All they care about is $$$$$. Those tourism web sites say absolutely NOTHING about what dangers one should look out for. Someone need to get that sordid information out to the public so they CAN educate themselves. Go get a life Rastur – someplace else. (sorry SM is I oversteped my boundries)

    43. Richard on May 25th, 2007 5:54 am

Joanie, that’s exactly the point. We have testimony from Tracy Allen of Boston and other victims of crime on Aruba … the police do nothing.

People post info about the real crime situation on places like the Aruban tourism Web boards … and the postings are erased.

The only reason the “one happy island” myth (well, lie is a better word) has kept going is that before Natalee, nobody ever focused on the true picture. The cries of victims were unheard: Aruba did its best to gag them, and the media paid no attention to “isolated cases.”

One legacy of Natalee’s case is that, in the words of Arthur Miller, attention is being paid. Clint van Zandt, in one of his early MSNBC commentaries on the Natalee case, said that his investigators had uncovered drug-and-rape gangs operating throughout the Caribbean.

Travel agents haven’t said anything. They WON’T say anything (for the most part). It’s dollars and cents to them.

To us, it’s common sense … boycott Aruba.

And remember, Beth’s original call was to boycott all of the Netherlands Antilles. This includes Curacao, where Amy Bradley vanished from the cruise ship in March 1998.

She is believed to be still alive.

I think the same is possible for Natalee.

But whether I’m right or wrong … we will never forget.

    44. Richard on May 25th, 2007 5:58 am

Klaasen (answer to #30) … are you suggesting that Mr. Rammstein was translating Joran van der Scum’s book with the knowledge of JvdS?

Alma (#14) … remember, too, that at that time there would be no reason for Natalee’s friends to take notice of that one person in the casino, whether it was PvdS or not. Just another of the many people there.

    45. Vicki on May 25th, 2007 8:01 am

Something is certainly wrong with the translations of the book. EVERYONE has stopped and Im wondering if they have been arrested for translating or if like you say Klaas…maybe he tripped himself up. or told on someone…hmmm

I have to go through my data: Does anyone know if there is a bar or restuarant that has a “yellow brick” sidewalk or advertises something about the Wizard of Oz.
Anyone know anything about the Grand Victoria Restuarant?
Don’t ask me why; I’m just sniffing.

    47. Pearl on May 25th, 2007 8:18 am

The love that all you good monkeys generate, that surrounds Natalee and her beautiful family, is astounding.
Each of you is a precious voice beckoning that this child be set free, that her remains be justly returned to her loving family, and that her freedom and human rights be honored and upheld – even in the brutal death inflicted upon her.

You are precious voices standing up for this child’s right to be returned to her homeland and buried with dignity and respect, and that the human torment inflicted upon her mother and father – CEASE.

What a gift each of you are, monkeys!

And to those whose intent is to spin this precious child’s VALUED LIFE, into the plot prepared by murderers as part of the collusion at play, which seeks to portray the hideous crimes committed against her as an “ISOLATED INCIDENT” …

*** Since when is the gang rape of a child, “ISOLATED”?

***Since when is the collusion to obstruct justice and repeatedly impede a murder investigation “ISOLATED”?

***How many lies does it take to label the kidnapping, rape and murder of a child as “ISOLATED INCIDENT”?

***How many MISSING STATEMENTS does it take to become an “ISOLATED INCIDENT”?

***How many slick judicial rulings does it take to grease the notion of “ISOLATED INCIDENT”?

***How many LIAR STATEMENTS does it take to make a “ISOLATED INCIDENT”?

***How many destroyed pieces of evidence does it take to declare “ISOLATED INCIDENT”?

***How many LIES TO THE PRESS does it take to declare “ISOLATED INCIDENT”?

      HER NAME IS NATALEE HOLLOWAY.
AND WE CAN ASSURE YOU, THIS CHILD WILL NOT BE LEFT ALONE.
THIS CHILD WILL NOT BECOME: AN “ISOLATED INCIDENT”.

JUSTICE FOR NATALEE HOLLOWAY AND HER FAMILY!

    48. Rastus on May 25th, 2007 9:41 am

      Joanie (#42),

After digging through your sarcasm, I think the question you posed is “Where does one find information about a tourist destination — what to watch out for and such?”

Easy. Think one of the following:

      Frommers and other travel guides
CIA world fact book on line
US Department of State web site
      Google

A combination of one or more of these should be useful.

Despite your cries otherwise, travel agents do not have a duty to inform one as to DETAIL of a particular area’s crime rate. General information perhaps. The intelligent and thinking traveler (and I see evidence to the contrary here) would a. pose questions regarding crime/safety to their travel agent, b. perform research on their own. Evidently, there are a load of weak willed individuals in our country who want someone else to be responsible.

BTW, US tourist destinations such as Orlando, Las Vegas, NYC, et al have pocket areas where crime/drugs/etc are rampant. Find yourself in one of these ‘crime infested’ areas you could be robbed, or worse, murdered. But I guess they don’t count, do they.

    49. Rastus on May 25th, 2007 9:44 am

Riddle me this about Aruba. Several have made comments that the island is unsafe.

      Explain then.

MB ‘children’ had taken that trip before post HS graduation — with adults accompanying them. If the place was so ‘unsafe’ how did that fact escape the adults over so many trips?

    50. Vicki on May 25th, 2007 10:29 am

#49- since you seem to be somewhat intelligent I will answer you. URINE and his filthy pimp pigs didnt start doing this until late 04-early 05… They had done it 20 times before and nothing bad ever happened. Get it… Your stinkin Island at one point just laundered money and sold drugs..it wasnt until the lying slimy VDS’s decided that they can do this to american tourists cause we like it or some equally perverted thoughts….NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND??

    51. alma on May 25th, 2007 10:31 am

Dumb Question Rastus, The same reason millions of people go on cruises every year and sometimes no crime and sometimes crimes, IE Amy Bradley. But RIDDLE THIS Rastus How many murders have to happen before something is done?
Is not one enough, do you have a daughter, a sister, a mother?

    52. alma on May 25th, 2007 10:49 am

Would you admit that possibly you would feel Aruba may not be the safest place if lets say oh I don’t know 6 MB kids were killed or went missing w/o a clue and they took another two years or $%$^$% make it three to investigate the next crime. I have an idea why don’t you write the principal of Mountain Brook and ask them for fun to take next year’s Senior Class trip to Aruba and see if anything happens and if it were too would you perhaps feel it was unsafe.

    53. Rastus on May 25th, 2007 10:54 am

Vicki, They have done what 20 times? Pick up tourist girls? Sorry, but that happens 20 times a week at Ft Lauderdale, Daytona, etc. One would think that if 20 girls had been drugged, raped, during a basically 8 month period of time, many would have come foward since May ’05 with fingers pointing at Joran (the correct spelling, btw). Alas, we have not. Oh, I know we have ‘heard’ they are out there, but none have been produced — no witness statements, etc.

Alma, I appreciate your evaluation of my question. Please explain how it was ‘dumb’ Unless, you mean it was ‘dumb’ for adults, over the course of several trips, to miss what many of you feel is intuitively apparent to a casual observer.
BTW, not my island. Never been there but would go.

    54. alma on May 25th, 2007 12:01 pm

In My opinion, Dumb is the observation of yours that Aruba is a safe place. Is drug and human trafficing safe,(Proven in the Caribeean) is the Lions den activities safe, is the fact that the police look the other way safe, the fact in that lies in the idea that after two years they finally searched the homes of the suspects, is slipping drugs in girls drinks safe.(admitted by arubans) Ok nobody is saying that this does not happen in other parts of the world we are not even saying some things don’t happen in the USA but this Blog is not about the safety of the tourism in the USA, I have an idea satr your on Blog about that.

    55. Vicki on May 25th, 2007 12:04 pm

#53- no dummie…I take back the intelligent remark cause obviously you are 2 fries short of a happy meal…DRUG AND RAPE…hello!!!!and if you cant remember something how can you report it?

When you go to LIERUBA..ie.. SATANS ISLAND be sure to take your wife, sister, niece, young girlfriend….and let us know how that works for ya…

    56. Richard on May 25th, 2007 1:09 pm

Even Rastus ought to be able to figure out by now that the issue is not that crimes happen in Aruba, as indeed they do elsewhere.

The issue, as we’ve been saying for two months, is that elements of the Aruban government are covering up what happened in an apparent attempt to shield certain individuals from prosecution.

But I guess the point is too abstruse for some ….

BTW, an honest travel agent ought, in my opinion, to disclose to a client such things as unsafe destinations.

Maybe that’s one factor contributing to the decline in tourism that Arubans keep whining about … perhaps more are doing so.

It’s easy enough to say, “Why don’t you pick another island?” Especially when Aruba is one of the more expensive destinations in the region … and that’s before anything else happens.

    57. Richard on May 25th, 2007 1:10 pm

And even I ought to know enough to proofread my posts.

In the above, “two months” obviously means “two years.”

Throw stones, ye who will ….

    58. 10061906 on May 25th, 2007 1:16 pm

I’m off the debate issue for a while and I’m trying to track down the yellow brick road. Also I will be reviewing shangos riddles. That is the only info that has remained constant. And the loose cannon’s book. According to the Aruba phone book the Grand Victoria does not exist. No phone nunber. Funny though I have a photo of it in a shopping mall on LG Smith Blvd. Right next to Wendy’s at 92/94

    61. 10061906 on May 25th, 2007 2:15 pm

53 Rastus: Sorry I had to put in my two cents::
There is a psychological impact to a female who has been violated. Most would be too embarrassed to openly discuss the issue. The world society still blames the rape victim. It was her fault. That is why I would guess, Judy withdrew her pictures of her and Joran off the web. She visited Aruba and stayed at the same hotel a month before Natalee. Since you seem to be new here, you may not know the circumstances behind her removing the album.
Remember in order to read a book you have to have the courage to open it.

      SM INTERPRETATIONS:
a ride to a ëraveí he invited Natalee to. Like some number of women before her,
Natalee found herself at an as-yet undiscovered locationÖthe house at the end of
the road not paved with gold.

Here she was given X and date-raped when she
passed out. Joren is afraid of some of the people thereÖisland drug dealers,
their bodyguards, et ceteraÖand he gets uncomfortable enough to leave. Perhaps,
this was standing order for Joren: pick us up a girl, get your pay, and get the Hell out. Unlike all those other girls before her, though, Natalee died
somehowÖmaybe things got out of hand, maybe she ODíed, maybe she fell down some stairs or something. At any rate the people at this ëraveí suddenly have a dead
      girl on their hands.

The sidewalks appear to be yellow bricks and the building has a star in front and is painted yellow.
But of course the PVS’s wall is brick and painted yellow.

    65. Maggie on May 25th, 2007 4:19 pm

People don’t report it because duh,,they probably don’t remember it..The statistics in the USA over half of the rapes go unreported.. I can’t imagine how much higher the numbers are for a female tourist in a foreign country.

      Rohypnol..

Flunitrazepam is known to induce anterograde amnesia in sufficient doses; individuals are unable to remember certain events that they experienced while under the influence of the drug. This effect is particularly dangerous when flunitrazepam is used to aid in the commission of sexual assault; victims may not be able to clearly recall the assault, the assailant, or the events surrounding the assault.

And then there’s Karen..police car transcript..
Joran: All that shit of “Karen,” all of you two don’t know of no shit. Fxxx you two.
Deepak: You think that the girl has nothing on, you will see who fxxxed who (this sentence was not good to understand) [note of the police officer]

JQKelly’s filings in the NY case.. Remember Joran he was going to come here and fight it, so he could get his story out.even if he didn’t have a lawyer, meanwhile hiring “pro bono”JOE(with a collection going on for him) to defend his NY case and argue to get it dropped..There were several girls in that filing and JQK was fully prepared to bring his case forward, if it was allowed.

and Joran’s book… I say lying to someone to get them to go with you is kidnapping..

      - the best way to make a girl trust you (and not think you are a local beach bum) is to tell them you are a tourist also. This way they do not think you are just trying to get them into the sack. The more often you try this “lie” the easier it gets to score from it.(OH we done this 20 times before and nothing bad happened, meanwhile where was that gf during those 20 times, he loved so much and felt so bad about cheating on the night he was with Natalee,, that he made up a lie?) The easier it gets to score? if he remembers a condom?

And to use the analysis that MB students and adults went to Aruba before , would be like saying Nicole Simpson walked out her door at night how many years???? and nothing bad happened. How many victims and families like Natalee’s have to be treated like this, before it becomes a problem???.. Check out Max Devries story…

Deepak’s police statements have always been very telling to me.. This is behaviour of innocent people?

I asked him if he had had sex with the girl. He said that they went into the water briefly and that after that they sat down on the beach and the girl had fallen asleep, that is what I understood. His actual words were that the girl “passed out” on the beach and that he left her there. I asked him why he had left her there. He answered that she would be leaving the same day and that someone would find her there.

    66. Rastus on May 25th, 2007 5:47 pm

#55, uh, as I stated previously, members of my family have been to Aruba (since 05) they had a great time. One was family, other was honeymoon. No bad reports from them — in fact just the opposite.

BTW, I was previously accused of lying about the foregoing.

BTW, that remark of yours “if you can’t remember it, how can you report it” Sheesh, that has to be one of the most utterly remarkable statements ever uttered here.

BTW, ALE DID search the VDS property early in the case. They just didn’t excavate the property down to 100 feet and screen the resulting overburden through a fine screen. But they did search.

THere have been more lies told in this case by BOTH sides than one can count.

Oh great your family went and everything was fine and went fine so who cares.. There are many people who don’t care or pay attention until it hits their doorsteps and then they want all the sympathy and support. Come back and tell us when a family memeber is a victim of a crime such as Natalee’s in Aruba..and you arent faced with the AHATA, police, the head of the country, newspaper people digging into your family life for dirt and victimizing you over and over while parading around 3 suspects, who have lied and still lying to everyone, obstructed, framed 2 men, gambling underage with his father who was ajudge in training, drinking underage, like rock stars.

btw how did Satish drive Joran home, and Joran walked home at the same time, barefooted.. ??? Why would a person hide their shoes?? evidence on them? Why will they see that chit if they find Natalee? What chit?? Why will Joran get 15 years if they find her? Why does Joran say I should HAVE killed you, not I should kill you in the police car transcript. Why does Paulus refer to Natalee as a body just a few days after she is gone? Most people would say If they have no body, theres a good chance she could be still alive, not they have no case. As Katablog said, there is lots of circumstantial evidence against these 3 and the father in this case.

SARCAM again Rastus. And you complain and belittle me because I say something. “must I do everything for you?” Yes. Flush the toilet you are sitting on and remove your stench so we don’t have to endure it! And by the way – 404 – unknown.
SM – I ain’t answering this rude dude no more.

73 Was not hard to arrive at that conclusion; I was being sarcastic.
      Thank you for the link.

      Joanie,

Thanks, I do know what 404 means. Evidently you were unable to locate the references I provided, so I went further to provide you with exact web page addresses. Each is verified as a website. Joanie, I’ll give you that you may be older. And I seek the brand of conversation you mentioned as well.

I do have to snicker though. You claim I am rude etc. Perhaps you should review your own posts.

I have stated an opinion that is contrary to several on this thread and have been summarily attacked. Folks have even trotted out the First Amendment. Fine with me, but the First Amendment is a dual edged sword. I just ask that it be equally applied to me.

      66. BTW, ALE DID search the VDS property early in the case. They just didn’t excavate the property down to 100 feet and screen the resulting overburden through a fine screen. But they did search. … Rastus

GRACE: Was Paulus, the judge, Van Der Sloots` home ever searched? I understand that Joran Van Der Sloot`s apartment, where he says he had consensual sex with Natalee, is attached to the home?
TWITTY: I want to make it perfectly clear: the Van Der Sloot primary residence was never searched. Forensics were not conducted at the primary residence of the Van Der Sloots.

      FOX NEW – MARTHA MACCALLUM – November 28, 2006
TWITTY: Well I think they will always have to look at there were two personnel involved from the Aruban Justice Department and that is why we do not have any evidence and that is what Joran’s attorney will have to be reminded of. It is because of Bob Witt and Ben King stopped the search warrants. It was made to initially search the entire area of Mon. 19 – the garden, the buildings and everything but on the spot a high ranking employee of the Justice Office, Bob Witt, reduced the search warrant to only the room of Joran so that’s why we do not have any evidence because of involvement of the obstruction from the Aruban Justice Department personnel.

TWITTY: … I asked — with a meeting with the prosecutor did you search Paulus` home and she said no. And I said why? And she said because he wouldn`t let us. I`m going I can`t — he was a suspect. They brought him in for — held him for two days. I just don`t understand it. That`s what I`m talking about. Nothing was done right in the beginning on this thing, otherwise we`d have an answer.

      ROBER JENSEN SHOW – November 28, 2006
DEVRIES: Yes the police missed several chances to do things right. When they wanted to search the house the door was opened by Mr. Ben King, an assistant of the Procurements General office, the highest justice office on the island who was a friend of the family. He wanted to support the Van der Sloots in these difficult times. So clearly the search of the house had not been a surprise to the Van der sloots. The police had a warrant for the complete estate but a judge Bob Witt, who was at the house as well, said only Jorans room could be searched. These are things a Dutch crime-reporter is of course totally astonished about.

      FOX BIG NEWS – October 9, 2005
VAN SUSTEREN: Okay, let me ask you about the search of Joran Van der Sloot house. Apparently this kid lived in an apartment that was connected to or sort of adjacent to his parents house.
      DOMPIG: That is correct
VAN SUSTEREN: And the police only searched his apartment, deputy chief?
DOMPIG: That is correct. The fact is that we as a law enforcement agency always try to get the maximum. Meaning that we want to search as much places as possible. We were not granted by the judge a search warrant for the complete house, we only received the warrant for the apartment.
VAN SUSTEREN: But what about after Paul Van der Sloot was arrested, couldn’t you get a warrant to search the house then?
DOMPIG: It was also denied, we were a bit disappointed with that. The judge was coming from another island I must point out. He said we didn’t make a good enough case to get a warrant.

#77. and yet anita, that paragon of truthfulness and doubtless many other attributes of motherhood, detailed for all tearfully about how their whole house was ransacked by the a.l.e. during their complete search of everything they owned and cherished.

do you think maybe having l4% of the adult population of the happy island admitting to the regular use of illegal drugs might play a part in such a high traffic accident rate?
