RSSAruba: New Casino Permits Required to Combat Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism
Casinos in Aruba must apply for new permits and conform with the new 
regulations as of September 1, 2008 or risk losing their permits to operate. The purpose of the new regulations is to promote policies to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Financing terrorism? Is there something we need to know?
It is too bad that Justice Minister Rudy Croes could not simply enforce the age limits of those allowed in Aruban casinos. If he had and Aruban casinos followed their own laws, Natalee Holloway would still be alive today as she and the Mountain Brook teens would never have Joran Van der Sloot.
ORANJESTAD – All casinos are at risk of losing their permits if they do not conform to the new policy regulations within one month. This is one of the new measures taken by the Ministry of Justice. The gambling lots are obliged to apply for a permit as the old agreements will be void as of the 1st of September.
Had the Excelsior prohibited an under age Joran Van der Sloot from the casino, Natalee Holloway would still be alive as he would have never met the Mountain Brook teens and never would have gone to Carlos n’ Charlies. Joran had stated that no one went there on a Sunday as it was a slow night.
The Minister of Justice, Rudy Croes, announced that the new regulations are based on recommendations of the inter-governmental organization Financial Action Task Force (FATF). This international organization is responsible for the development and promotion of the policy to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism. The regulations are ahead of a new law, which is currently being laid down, and were created through the collaboration between government experts and the Casino world (DAC).
As of now the casinos have to give insight into the administration and their internal control. The Minister furthermore states that only the casinos which have complied with all the stipulated conditions will be eligible for a new gambling permit. These conditions stipulate amongst others, that a casino business should have the legal form ‘NV’, that the casino should have sufficient funds to guarantee payment of winners and that the casino should possess a local bank guarantee of 500.000 dollars.

Oh please give me a break the mafia runs the casino’s now, I guess they forgot to mention that!
It seems I remember reading a State Department annual report that said Aruba was found to be in violation of money laundering laws. They were to prepare a special study and get into conformity with international banking rules.
Obviously, they have NEVER been behind the eight ball when it comes to obeying rules… They were in violation, year after year. Why the sudden urgency, now?

Well, Aruba has had a bad rep for years…. The US State Dept has had it on the warning list for tourists since the Clinton Adm. back in the ’90′s. I think Aruba tried to suck up to the Feds by promising to try to divert a lot of the drug traffic to other destinations.

Remember, some of the Mountain Brook kids reported that Joran had been hanging around their group for a few days. So if the casino had upheld the law, who knows what Joran might have done, or tried to do?

I remember an article on ScaredMonkeys quite some time ago … it said that Posner should never have been given a casino license, and that it happened only because of some clerical error, in which somebody put an x in the “yes” box, rather than the “no” box.

Maybe the reported influx of Colombian tourists, compensating for the absence of the American business, is making Aruba a little nervous?
We also remember an article saying that North Korea was laundering money through Aruba. Don’t tell me that Aruba actually is going to make war on the drug gangs … hard to imagine.

I also wonder about online gambling … how much of that is centered in Aruba, and will the same rules be enforced? I knew a guy who, for a year or so after graduating from college, made his living by playing Texas Hold ‘em online … he said that they paid off scrupulously.
Maybe he just lucked into the right site? I wouldn’t touch it with the proverbial ten-foot pole.
Posner should never of allowed Joran in his casino let alone a line of credit….the man is a criminal and should not even own any property in Aruba….that was probably arranged by Paulus..

#5 John Stanton, I agree. We have all seen for 3 years now first hand, what they say and what they do are totally opposite. More laws they won’t enforce. Don’t even enforce the ones they have it seems. The tragedy is that Natalee and her family weren’t able to see all of what we now have before going to Aruba.

Casinos are located at most large resorts with a few casinos open 24 hours a day. In general, opening hours are 11 a.m. for slots and 1 p.m. through early morning for table games. Hours vary seasonally, so please check before making plans. No one under 18 is allowed in the casinos.

On July 27, the first day of their stay, the husband went early morning to the gym, while his wife thuisbleef. “Someone has been committed then, Kim seized her and pressed the bedroom,” says Bruce on Traveltalkonline.com. “He threatened her rape and murder if they gave him no money.” After a struggle the woman was able to flee. Someone in the adjacent villa were working on, and heard her crying lap to help.
The set went to the Alamanda Hotel and the next day went back to the United States. The man told them that in twelve years time the island had visited fifty times, but that they now no longer possible for fear return. The woman bursting physical, but mental harm is clear, says her husband.
According to a message not confirmed the attacker was a lagos, who was armed with a metal rod. He would be the property some time in the holes have been carried out.

Gerold Dompig said accusations of his son, Michael, against Geoffrey van Cromvoirt, 19, were part of a dispute among acquaintances that escalated out of control.
“He’s a kid; he got confused and frustrated and he said things he shouldn’t have said,” Dompig told the Birmingham (Ala.) News. “It went too far.”

Just been on Gretawire. Much discussion on the missing child, Calee Anthony. Lots of the bloggers mention they hope it isn’t going to be another “Aruba” or “Van der Sloot” fiasco. Bloggers mention Natalee Holloway is still remembered in their prayers. So although Natalee is seldom mentioned on Gretawire these days, everyone is still very much aware of her fate and this missing Anthony child brings it all to the surface once again.
