year old Edgar Renfrum became the 3rd traffic fatality alone this week in Aruba and the 9th this year. The roads in Aruba this year have become like a demolition derby of carnage.
The jeep in which Renfrum was, came from Dakota and wanted to turn on the main road towards the airport. However, the driver failed to yield, and the car that was coming from the direction of the airport hit the jeep on the driver’s side.
Just one more reason why not to get into a car with three people after leaving Carlos n’ Charlie’s. If the suspects don’t get you, another driver will.
Well-known former soccer player dies in traffic (Amigoe: 4/24/2008)
The traffic on the main road from Oranjestad to San Nicolas has claimed another life yesterday.
ORANJESTAD — Edgar Renfrum, a former soccer player from Dakota that caused furore in the sixties, died in a traffic accident last Wednesday.
The accident took place around noon near the intersection at Price Smart. The jeep in which Renfrum was, came from Dakota and wanted to turn on the main road towards the airport. However, the driver failed to yield, and the car that was coming from the direction of the airport hit the jeep on the driver’s side. At first, it didn’t look like the passengers of both cars were inured. However, the 78-year old Renfrum that was in the back of the jeep, had died. Reanimation attempts were in vain; he seemed to have died from a cardiac arrest.
This is the third fatal traffic accident this week. The total number of fatalities in traffic this year is 9.

Hi Richard, I researched all those pictures, Joran is not in Bangkok, unless they know more than we do and the newspapers made up their own photos…I think he is in either in the Netherlands or Germany with his uncle…but we’ll find him…and he will appear for the civil suit that he is hiding from…!!!! Patrick, you seem to miss the contradictions in your statements. First you go off on people who speculated and believe things with their heart and soul and then you speculate about how the Scared Monkeys got their name. You also speculate about other things. You say you don’t know if there was a cover-up but you go after people who say there was.
The evidence and facts say there was a cover-up. The fact that Aruban police allowed the K2 and Joran to run around free for 10 days (the last people seen with Natalee) but arrest two black men who no one ever had any evidence of being with Natalee speaks very loudly.
The fact that Aruban police were asking Beth about Natalee’s seizures within days of Natalee’s disappearance – and then years later Joran says to you that Natalee had a seizure should speak very loudly to you that something is wrong.
Then you speculate that it couldn’t be a cover-up because Joran is a “no-body” but you don’t address 1) van der Stratten’s relationship to Paulus and Joran 2) Dompig’s relationship to the Kalpoe brothers 3) Dompig digging up a “witness” that Natalee bought drugs who turns out to be Dompig’s drugged out brother-in-law 4) Paulus’ reported visits to the bank 5) Paulus’s sneaking Joran a cell phone – which shows he’s not above breaking the law for his sonny boy 6) the unexplained casino video that shows a person who strongly resembles Paulus, has his same hairline and watch, sitting next to Natalee in the casino and we could go on and on.
These are all evidence Patrick, not speculation.

We all should be aware that (this is going to sound too bizarre to be true, but apparently it is true) next month the cheerleaders of the Washington Redskins will be going to Aruba for some kind of weekend social photo event.
I know … you have to do a double-take. It just seems too preposterous, and too insane, to happen.
But I guess Aruba is giving away hotel rooms in a desperate attempt to convince the world that it is still a tourist destination. May they sink.

I recently was informed that the cheerleaders of the Washington Redskins will be taking part in a weekend photo shoot at an Aruba hotel next month.
At first I could not comprehend this, but now my disbelief is suspended. My dismay and disgust, however, are as strong as they were when I first heard this news.
May is a significant month for Americans in Aruba. At the end of May, three years ago, a young American woman named Natalee Holloway vanished in Aruba. And since the early morning of May 30, 2005, elements of the Aruban government and law enforcement have continued to thwart the campaign of Natalee’s family for answers.
The Aruban economy is 80 percent dependent on American tourism. Accordingly, it has every rational interest in promoting good relations with our country. Instead, it has assailed Natalee’s family, repeatedly bungled the investigation in what cannot be mere incompetence, and in the process has demonstrated that it is no fit place for anyone to visit.
I therefore am appalled that your group would choose to provide Aruba with any shred of the glitz and glamour that it dearly seeks. May I suggest that you provide each of the cheerleaders going there a copy of “Loving Natalee,” the book by Beth Holloway, as well as “Aruba,” by Natalee’s father Dave Holloway.
Let your charges read about the treatment of the parents, and their supporters, on Aruba.
Let them read about the searches on land, in the landfill, among the drug addict houses and worse. Let them see reports of the attempts of the locals to lure foreign tourists away from their groups. Let them hear how indifferent authorities were to finding out the truth.
And let them take a look at one of the photographs of Natalee, during her high school years, in her marching band regalia. That photograph is in Beth’s book, “Loving Natalee.”
Then let them look in the mirror and think, “But for the grace of God, there go I.”
Maybe then they will decide that it is absolutely indecent for them to go to Aruba … spitting in the faces of Natalee’s family and of all those who have tried to keep the lesson of her case as a vibrant message to the public: “No justice for Natalee, no tourists for Aruba.”
Maybe then you will share their insight. If not, may I suggest that you write to Natalee’s parents explaining why you choose to give Aruba your business. But then again, Natalee wasn’t your daughter, was she?

Question is, what good is paradise… if it’s just something that you look at? Paradise is a state of mind. After what has happened in the case of Natalee Holloway, there are few people that would care to look at your paradise, when there is no peace of mind… if you can’t live a little without worrying about ‘something bad’ happening. Not to mention, the disappearing act, that’s been exposed to the public, and what Aruba’s finest were doing at the rocks that day.

Twice today, I’ve tried to post here, only to find that the post didn’t “take.” Perhaps the forum is sending me a message.
Anyway, yet another day has passed with no mention in the mainstream media (at least, none that I can find) about Joran van der Scum, in Thailand or anywhere else. If the story were genuine, I’m sure that the media would have caught up with Joran by now, distasteful though the assignment would be.
Today a story is out about a woman in Austria confined to a cellar for 24 years, during which she had some seven children.
Her captor was her own father, I believe.
Tried to post the story here, but as I said, it wouldn’t work.
Obviously, stuff like that is very unusual … but so is the Natalee case. I used to think that human trafficking was involved, but no longer do.
However, those who say such a thing is “impossible” … what about a father confining his daughter for 24 years? And forcing her to have his children?

What in the world is going on in Austria? This follows news of the Natascha K. (can’t remember the spelling) case, confined for ten years or so.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) — Police have found a woman missing since 1984, who told authorities that her father had kept her in a cellar for almost 24 years and that she had given birth to seven children after being repeatedly raped by him.
The 73-year-old father was taken into custody, Franz Polzer, head of the Lower Austrian Bureau of Criminal Affairs, told reporters Sunday.
Authorities found the woman Saturday evening in the town of Amstetten following a tip, Lower Austria police said in a statement.
The 42-year-old woman told police that her father began sexually abusing her when she was 11 and locked her in a room in the cellar on August 28, 1984.
During the 24 years that followed, she said she was continually abused and gave birth to seven children, one of whom died several days later.

Natascha Kampusch was 10 years old when she was kidnapped in Vienna on her way to school in March 1998. Her abductor, Wolfgang Priklopil, threw himself in front of a train just hours after her dramatic escape.
The woman appeared to be “psychologically disturbed.” Gee, hard to imagine ….
Again, there’s no reason to think that, because this extraordinarily bizarre case happened, it gives us reason to believe that Natalee is/was held captive somewhere. I don’t think it’s so.
But those who say such a thing would be impossible … probably would say that this case, too, is impossible. It happened, though.

Your Cheerleaders will be preyed upon shamelessly, regardless of any security which may be employed. Being familiar with your limited budget constraints, I’m fairly certain there is not much of that in place on your planned event.
Surely also you are aware of the complete injustice that was done to Natalee Holloway and her family in 2005. While not blaming some of the locals, the corrupt legal system there that has failed to bring the proper individuals to justice will also fail to protect your Cheerleaders in the event of any unpleasant occurances.
There are many other desirable Caribbean locations your girls can go to with great photo opportunties, etc. Please, I emplore you-as a Mother of a beautiful young daughter myself…do the right thing and find another destination for your precious commodity of young women. They deserve better and their safety is at risk. For this time and this opportunity in their lives, this Island is not the type of exposure they need. Any threat to their well-being will not be in your favor or serve to protect your best interests.

@ #72- Don—this is where I must correct you. I honeymooned on Aruba and loved the island and it’s native people when there in 2004. I did feel safe, and I did enjoy my time there. Let me say that one evening, as we and another couple were heading out for a drink…some locals had mentioned a fun place to go was Carlos and Charlies. We walked down the street and a gangster looking local hanging outside in front of the curb asked if we wanted to get high. Let me say, that alone was reason to turn away but I just got a very bad vibe from that place. This was PRE-Natalee’s disappearance time.
Now let me tell you that I have had a pleasant experience on your island and know not everyone there is bad or evil.
But, in hindsight- I will warn others not to travel there since your foolish Officials in charge are so corrupt and what they did to Miss Hollway and Beth and Dave. Anita and Paulus are scum, and so isn’t the psychological lying, raping Son of theirs. If you in any way try to deny that Joran or the Kalpoe brothers are innocent, you are smoking some of the crack they have down there.
Why I have joined the protesting here is simple. A complete mockery of justice and DENIAL to face the truth and hold those responsible for this crime accountable. That is it! In a nutshell.

Patti, I live on the island and trust me whatever I said is the truth. I am not trying to bad mouth Arubans, but it’s just the truth. They do hate Americans but they dont admit it. Patti, I live on the island and trust me whatever I said is the truth. I am not trying to bad mouth Arubans, but it’s just the truth. They do hate Americans but they dont admit it. They pretend they love the American girls, so we can buy them drinks all night, and then bring them presents every time we come back to the states. They have the nerves just right out to ask for money and if you ask them back for it, they get pissed off and call you all sorts of names. They think we all grow money trees in our back yards and we never run out of money. It’s just their sick mentality. Everything is based around their weed, alcohol, partying and sex. Nothing else is important and they do LAUGH at every serious matter. Makes me SICK. I am in Aruba for work and still have another year in my contract.
OH, and just today they found another DEAD body behind downtown. I dont know the whole story yet. But I will let you all know.

You say that Arubans secretly, or not so secretly, hate Americans. I think this is a very important point for us all to keep in mind … remember, the American tourists descend on Aruba as economically superior beings. That tends to engender animosity.
And those Arubans inclined to be predators (who else do you think would be in a club called the “Pimps”?) must have long watched the frolicking and cavorting of the foreign tourists … and figured out how they were vulnerable.
And then shared fantasies (“Wouldn’t it be cool if …” “Do you think we could get away with …” “See that girl playing tennis? Imagine if …”) as they watched their porn movies.

I used to be just like you once. I used to come to this site and post and some people didnt like me. Then I stopped posting for a bit and only read the stuff. Then I started comparing everything I read to what I saw in Aruba with MY OWN EYES. Of course I keep up with all the stuff and the news that happens on the island. So, once I started looking deeper and started analyzing evrything, I finally realized Aruba is NO LONGER paradise. Yes it used to be. It really was the best and the safest place on earth. But if you do the statistics and look at the small population/square meter, and then all the crime, Aruba’s crime rate is going up and up and up. There really is no denying in that. If you are an American, you are naive and you really think you are loved and welcomed there. you are wrong. Just be careful. If you are an Aruban, then you know I am right.
And Carpe, I actually like it when people post these kinds of comments, because then there is more debate and hopefully the monkeys can help more people like Don and Esther to realize they are wrong. That happened to me and I am glad I visited this site.

Probably none. When and if her remains are discovered, we will know for certain.
As things are, I continue to ask the question: WHY the extended cover-up on Aruba?
I don’t think it’s beyond possibility that Natalee was confined for some time by the “Pimps,” or by some of them.
No reason to think that because this horror took place in Austria, something similar took place in Aruba. No reason to rule it out, either.

Of course, Sasha (#144), there’s no reason for Arubans to love Americans. If we Americans think that people react in raptures to our going overseas (and I’ve lived and worked overseas for ten years, plus a year in college abroad), then we are preposterously naive.
But the issue is not whether Arubans love us, in my view; it’s really that the island seems to have been, and remains, indifferent to the biggest criminal case that has happened to it in my memory.
Or, rather, not indifferent: they are indifferent to the suffering of the family and their supporters. But they appear to be not at all indifferent to the prospect that their tourist revenue might decline (and it has plunged) owing to the unsolved crime on their island.
And they appear to be indifferent to their own government’s determination to protect the locals and to cover it up, hoping that if they shut their eyes and hold their noses long enough, the whole thing will go away.
That’s why the boycott is justified. And that’s why we will continue to promote it … even though Aruba’s own state of self-denial is the strongest argument that can be provided.
