Diario Editorial: Complexes and Envy: a bad combination! (In the Natalee Holloway Investigation)

From Diario, Jossy Mansur’s Editorial; December 19, 2005: COMPLEHO Y ENVIDIA: UN MAL COMBINACION!

What a difference there is between some of the Diario news articles and Jossy Mansur’s editorials. In his latest editorial ‘Complexes and Envy: a bad combination’, Jossy Mansur pulls no punches and its is fairly obvious who the finger is pointed at. Wonder why Jossy was never asked to be part of The Aruban Strategic Communications Task Force? Maybe this is why:

The case of Natalee has categorically emphasized this concept. Those who have no opinion, or who do not want to give the opinion that they have, or are convinced that their opinion is worthless, refuse to voice it, but on the other hand criticize those who have to courage to do so.

It is the eternal negative human factor, without prosperity and without remedy. Instead of letting those who can contribute to a solution of the case, or at the very lease avoid the worst for Aruba, do their work in peace, the complexed and envious people employ their tongues as a destructive weapon that gives no respite or rest.

We have not always agreed with Jossy Mansur, but he makes a rather valid point that many in Aruba should at least listen to even if you wish to not follow his advice. A confrontational, belligerent attitude and finding some off the wall comparisons to justify Natalee’s disappearance is not the answer and will only make matters worse.

What they do not understand, because it cannot penetrate the small alley of their brains, is that a confrontational attitude is not going to help solve Natalee’s case, nor avoid a boycott against Aruba.

The People of America do not care one bit for the comparison of Natalee with the many thousands other cases in the US of youngsters who have disappeared. It is this case, the one of Natalee in particular, which has captured their attention, not the others, amen if they will be solved or not.

Diario Editorial; Natalee and the bla bla bla professors

Diario, November 21, 2005; Editorial NATALEE Y E PROFESORNAN DI BLA BLA BLA!

Editorial: Natalee and the bla bla bla professors
by Jossy Mansur

I didn’t know that in Aruba there were so many professionals who are specialized in bla bla bla, that is to say, those who express their baseless opinions, but what is revealed is their ignorance. There are some media in Aruba who are somewhat politically inclined which have lost notion of reality and which hide the word ‘truth’ behind their forgetfulness.

They can very well continue to wait for a reply from me that will never come, because I am not going to waste time tending to some fanatic blindingly tied to their negative habits of twisting everything and interpreting in their own way what they can’t express or write.

Their sick focus on the case of Natalee has become a pathetic aspect, not because it is difficult to solve, but because of the errors committed and the sentences dictated are obvious to everyone around the world who is aware of them.

It has nothing to do with whether Natalee is alive or not, but with the judge who came from Curaà §ao who preferred to ignore all the good work that the Aruban police did and the solid presentation of the prosecutor. Are the three suspects guilty or innocent? This will come out because you cannot hide this truth for very long, but sooner or later, it will come to light. On my part, they are innocent if Natalee turns out to be alive!

Diario Asks the Simple Question … Mammana … Posner, What’s the Difference?

We were wondering when Jossy Mansur and Diario was going to do this story and pose the controversial yet obvious question. With the many critical news articles that Diario has been lately on the Natalee Holloway story, it was only a matter of time before this obvious question would be asked. There has been much publicity made by many on Aruba, including from the Aruban Strategic Task Force, regarding Joe Mammana’s criminal past. Diario asks the following question which will most likely be asked by many American media types as well in the coming days.

Now that the government refuses an American ex-criminal entry to Aruba, the government has to justify the reason why until today they continue to permit a person with such a police record such as Mike Posner, can come to set up a business in Aruba, continue to operate his business in Aruba and come and go whenever he wants.

What sort of handling of Justice is there in Aruba and what impact will this case have in the US when the American media start to question the government of Aruba about this matter?

Jossy Mansur and Diario pulling the hat trick going out on the journalistic limb stating the following in this article against the Aruban government, Posner and a rival news paper. We are wondering how that “freedom of the press” principle works in Aruba on this one?

What is strange is that the government refuses to let this ex-criminal enter Aruba, but on the other hand, permits another ex-criminal, Mike Posner who is going soon to the U.S. for cases of law violations, to be able to have a business in Aruba, and enter and leave Aruba whenever he wants.

It would appear that Diaro has some questions in todays newspaper. From Diario, November 21, 2005; Doà ±o di casino na Aruba cu pasado criminal pisa na Merca JOE MAMANA NO TA WORDE PERMITI PA DRENTA ARUBA PA SU PASADO CRIMINAL PERO CON A PARA CU MIKE POSNER?

Aruban casino owner with criminal past goes to America
Joe Mammana is not permitted to enter Aruba due to his past but how did we end up with Mike Posner?

Natalee Holloway: More interesting revelations from Diario articles

Team investigativo lo conoce caranan nobo MANEHO HOPI SUSHI DEN MINISTERIO PUBLICO DEN CASO HOLLOWAY
Diario; November 14, 2005

Investigative team will get new faces
Very dirty handling of the Holloway case in the prosecution’s office

ORANJESTAD(AAN): Information DIARIO investigated the whole weekend is what happened with the letter which was sent directly to the attorney general at the Public Ministry by the Holloway and Twitty families to remove those mentioned by name, those in the investigative team orchestrated by the very same Public Ministry.

Dave Holloway, in a secret meeting with prosecutor Flanegin: on the basis of information we have continued to find and search for, about the people in our own Public Ministry, we have been able to uncover that Dave Holloway had a secret meeting with prosecutor Flanegin who apparently got the green light from the attorney general to speak with Dave Holloway in secret.

It is well known that the relationship between the chief prosecutor Karen Jansen and the attorney general Teresa Croes Fernandez-Pedra is not one of the best and because of this, communication between the two is not very good.

Still, it can be recalled how they had a disagreement with each other when the prosecutor notified the attorney general via a letter that it would be best if her daughter didn’t act as spokesperson for the Public Ministry in the case of the disappearance of Natalee, given that she looked like a kid.

The anchor from FOX asked an ex-FBI agent what he thinks about this prospect, that after so many times the suspects were interrogated, that now this will happen once more.

Boycott Aruba? What were Aruban Newspapers Saying Prior to the Announcement

Today the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, called for a boycott against Aruba in hopes of pressuring Government officials to handling the disappearance of Natalee Holloway properly and communicate with the family.

However, some of the Aruban newspapers have writing articles prior to any announcement of a boycott. It would appear that some did not need any official announcement from the Governor of Alabama to take action on their own. After all, freedom of speech is also the freedom to spend your hard earned dollars as you see fit. In a November 7 editorial from Diario, (segun turistanan, AGENTENAN DI VIAHE NA MERCA TA CONSEHANDO PA NO BAY ARUBA)

Editorial: According to tourists
Travel agents in the US advising against going to Aruba

ORANJESTAD(AAN): Recently, DIARIO conversed with a few tourists about the case of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and the fact that, among others, Natalee Holloway’s mother has asked for people to not come to Aruba until the case is solved.

Different tourists explained that given that they have been coming to Aruba for some time, they are not affected by this because they know how dear and safe Aruba is.

The editorial would later go on to say the following:

According to the couple, they paid in total for two people, only $2,800 for a vacation of 10 days in Aruba. This includes the trip and the stay at a good hotel.

They explained to DIARIO that the travel agencies, who earn a commission on the tickets they sell, want to make more money so they are advising people not to go to Aruba because they are offering other more expensive destinations like the Bahamas, to earn a higher commission.

However, in the November 3rd Amigoe, Aruba asks the Netherlands for help.

Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP) has asked Minister Ben Bot (CDA) of Foreign Affairs to please exert his influence to restructure the downward publicity spiral, in which Aruba has landed due to the Natalee Holloway matter.

“The American media-campaigns have discredited the Aruban judicial system and its integrity”, said Oduber. He hinted that the Netherlands also gets drawn in this. “The call for a boycott is not exclusively for Aruba, but also for the Netherlands.” Oduber indicates in his letter that the call for a boycott mainly rests on an incorrect interpretation of the judicial system of Aruba and the Netherlands.

(full story)

As talks of a pending boycott took place prior to todays actual announcement of a boycott by Alabama Governor Riley, the effects have already begun in Aruba affecting tourism. I do not think anyone in Aruba would have thought that their tourism numbers and image would have been affected this quickly. The idea that Aruba dripped from the number 2 perceived safe island to one on par with Jamaica and the Dominican Republic must bring shear fear to the tourism industry.

The absolute figures do not show a negative influence on the image of Aruba as a safe tourist destination. But professional market research shows a less bright image for the future. 51 Percent, of the interviewed persons, of which 33 percent are directly involved with the Holloway case, said that they are not interested in going to Aruba. 21 Percent of the travel agents are less inclined to recommend Aruba as vacation destination. The biggest concern is the fact that 27 percent consider Aruba to be an unsafe place to go to. Aruba has dropped from the second to the seventh place on the list of safe vacation destinations and is now almost at the same level as Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

These effects and the boycott had not even been called for. I honestly do not think anyone wants a boycott; however, one does begin to wonder why Aruban officials and the prosecutors office ever let it get this far? We could see this coming for quite some time and wondered why Aruban officials kept playing this rather dangerous game of chicken?
