Safety on vacation. Now vacationers have to worry about the care-free, no 
responsibility attitude of life in the fast lane on Aruban roads. 17 deaths in 2007 already? Seems like a pretty high amount when factoring the number of actual drivers. Can people just take some responsibility when they are behind the wheel?
What is happening on the roads in Aruba? They now have had 4 traffic fatalities in one week. In 2007 Aruba has already had 17 traffic deaths as compared to 14 deaths in traffic in 2006. Such news really makes one want to rent a car if one actually decides to go on vacation to Aruba.
This is just another aspect of safety issues that seem to get glossed over. One would think that you would always need to educate drivers as to the rules of the road, not just when traffic fatalities go through the roof.
“We need to educate the road-users to change their driving behavior and enter cooperation with other organizations.”
Spokesperson John Larmonie warned the public again this morning to make sure that there will not be more casualties in traffic, not to speed, and to comply with the right-of-way rules.”

A 37-year old man died in a frontal collision near Malmok on Sunday.
ORANJESTAD – There was another death in traffic yesterday. The 37-year old Fausto Arends died of his injuries after a head-on collision with an oncoming car. Arends is the fourth death in traffic within one week and the 17th this year, three more than last year.
The accident took place on the Malmokweg at about 13:30. Arends drove in the direction of the hotels, decided to pass the car in front of him, and did not see the oncoming car and they collided. Four persons were injured and an ambulance rushed them to the hospital, where Arends soon died of his injuries. The Public prosecutor took possession of the body for further investigation.
Compared to 14 deaths in traffic in 2006, this year there are 17 until now. One of the police corps’ priorities this year is to drive back the number of deaths in traffic. During the presentation of the police’s annual figures, Chief Peter de Witte predicted a higher number of deaths, if the road-users do not change their driving behavior. He also said at that time that the police could not do this alone. “We need to educate the road-users to change their driving behavior and enter cooperation with other organizations.”
The number of traffic surveillance increased this year and the police imposed almost 300 fines in the past two months. Spokesperson John Larmonie warned the public again this morning to make sure that there will not be more casualties in traffic, not to speed, and to comply with the right-of-way rules.”

I had over 400 shots of traffic accidents and only used a small sample. I could have made three videos of all the traffic accidents alone.
Oh, good thing this happened now, can you imagine if this happened when Beth and Greta were in Aruba?

The statistics need some qualifications…a young girl and her grandmother died because it took the ambulance 2 hours to arrive at the scene…they bled to death due to a confusion between two ambulance dispatch terminals. This is also about negligence due to lack of procedures in community emergency services.
Probably stopped for a prior visit to C&C’s. Of course we’ll blame the public, why are their so many accidents? Who knows what tourist are getting in their drinks. Not to say everyone needs to be responsible for being behind the wheel. But just what exactly is happening. The number of accidents and deaths is increasing all the time.
I think Dompig is now responsible for issuing driver’s licenses. There was an article about this not to long ago on how many people are driving around with invalid driver licenses. Mostly immigrants.
Can’t find any police at the station, ambulances can’t get to scene of an accident, the whole place is going to hell. Nothing safe about that island, nor is it even happy.
Just one unsafe, unhappy island. The brochures certainly need to be changed. Seems like a one way ticket.
Lieruba will continue to suffer because they havent freed Natalee. They are going to hell in a hand basket….when they do the right thing by Natalee then they will once again be okay…God does not like ugly. He is angry that you stole his child. Give her back….

I can name a few more people who would be a traffic accident fatality if I caught them crossing the road in front of me. OOPS, I do not guess it would be classified as an accident if you back up and run over them a second time???

Claudio, Alberto, and Gabriel all tried to help us and in the beginning Julia Renfro was with us. About Wed. or Thur., someone in the government or tourism or law enforcement,,or more probably all of the above started talking to the people who were trying to help us get some answers. I do remember them talking to some of these people and telling them to watch what they were saying and doing. It appeared they put pressure on anyone they could. Charles Croes and Julia turned on us fairly quickly, but they did have leverage on them.

There is always doubt because of all the lies and cover-up tactics, but as to who was behind the cover-up besides Paulus and his friends,,make no mistake it was the Aruban Tourism Minister and his aides. ALE did whatever they were told or paid to do. We knew in the first few days that they (Dept of Tourism in Aruba) wanted the whole story to end and very quickly and very quitely. When they had their first news conference as soon as Dompig ended his update, the Tourism people said “No Questions”. Of course we (Jug’s friends) said Hell no, you can’t have a news conference and answer absolutely no questions. Yesterday (nov 1) the dutch minister of internal affairs and kingdom-relations published the answers to the questions that were asked about the Natalee Holloway Case by a member of parliament some weeks ago, on the ministries website ( http://www.minbzk.nl/actueel?ActItmIdt=109274 ).
1. Question : Do you know of the report that members of the US house of representatives have asked for a hearing about the role of the FBI in the investigation to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.
1. Answer: Yes.
2. Question: Do you know if this hearing will take place and if former police commissioner Gerald Dompig is invited to this hearing.
2. Answer: There is no hearing planned. As far as we’ve learned this is all about a citizens-initiative on the internet to press for such a hearing.
3. Question: What is the status of the second opinion that is implemented by the KLPD to the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. When can the chamber / parliament expect the results of this investigation?
3. Answer: Because this investigation, under the leadership of the Aruban Pros. Office, is still ongoing I cannot say anything about that.

Their English is better than my Dutch, but it seems very obscure … perhaps deliberately?
Way back when the Dutch had already admitted it was a botched up investigation. Aruba sure made a big mess of everything. And refusing the help of the FBI was just plain ridiculous. Alot of things have already been uncovered. We now know about their crime and corruption. It would of been better to solve the case.

Most startling is Joran’s near-confession June 18, 2005. Holloway writes, When a detective called him a “devil”, the report says that Joran, ‘lost it’ and stated: I know what you guy think. You think I had sex with Natalee and that I called my father and that my father came and that we hid the body.

It’s a two article but pretty much says what we already know. But couldn’t pass it up when I saw the headlines.

I’m not being critical … your English is certainly far superior to my Dutch (and probably to my English as well) … but I think the phrase ‘second opinion’ is generally used in cases such as when one doctor recommends an operation. If the patient is reluctant to go along with this, he/she asks for a second opinion from another doctor.
So I guess you’re talking about something such as the Dutch review of the Aruban investigation?
Or the team that was sent over, God knows how many months ago, and ever since then has been (we’re told) ‘reviewing the paperwork’?

You’re right about the expression “second opinion”; in the NL’s we use that as the name of a second doctors-advice as well. And yes, it’s used in the question of the member of parliament in the sence of a review (of the ALE’s investigation).
I just copied that phrase because it was litteraly what the MOP asked. So… If it’s a wrong usage of that phrase…. Hìs mistake!

Our government should upmostly be involved in solving the case of Natalee… don’t allow passports to Aruba…do something to protect our American’s…our child on vacation…victimized by the psychopath of the island…letters to the President….

Letters to all of the presidential aspirants might help. I’ve written several times to Mike Huckabee, who as governor of Arkansas backed the voluntary boycott, asking why he won’t speak up now. No reply….

Hey, everyone, I just found two Caribbean stories. Unfortunately, the computer I’m now using doesn’t allow cut-and-paste.
One of them: a Shreveport, La., man is “missing and presumed drowned” on St. Maarten.
The other: the body of Joel Gove has been recovered on the island of Saba. You will remember that he went missing in December, the locals and the Dutch couldn’t be bothered to search for him, and the family was trying to raise funds to finance a search.
Apparently hikers found the body by accident.
