I have never noticed how much he looks like his slimeball dad until now.

      Rot in Hell, Joran.

      Me, oh my.

Is that a spanking, brand new vest with new words on it – that the good Peruvian Police put on the cyclops from Aruba?

Why is not one in the media tracking down the Kalpoe brothers? If van der Sloot had any previous influence over prior to Peru, he certainly does not now. Why is the media not camped out on their door step and asking them what really happened to Holloway? It’s crazy how the media is ignoring the other two suspects in her disappearance.

    5. Maggie on June 11th, 2010 11:50 am

Doesn’t even look like the same person. If this is what a person on cigarettes and steak looks like, hate to see him in prison after a year. I am guessing he wasn’t allowed much sleep and drug withdrawals.

Watch this video..click on video 1.. I think it’s worse for him then just leaving the hotel. He goes out of the room, shirt changed, carrying coffee cups, food?, knocks on the door of his room like he is locked out..keeps looking around and then goes to get someone at the desk to unlock his door, like he just went for coffee and food and can’t get in. Already dead at the time.
      my guess.

looks like Peruvian do have the balls! learn from them Aruba!!!!!!! glad this POS is behind bars!

Sorry for all the damn typos in my previous attempt, I was typing too quickly. But the point is valid – where is the media when it comes to the Kalpoe brothers?

Looks like he finally got his PNP (pronounced “pimp”) status. Just what he always wanted!

Urine van der Slut can now look forward to spending the rest of his life in a Peruvian prison :-) He is guaranteed filthy living conditions and daily brutal beatings/rapes!!

Aruba should have grown some balls a long damn time ago!!

video only confirms what i believe all along the whole coffee story was a LIE, what a piece of crap he is. Good Job Peru. it is all so bittersweet, i feel great he has been charged, but Natalie is still missing. This case and sm have consumed me for 5 years. God Bless Stephany and Natalie

    14. NGBoston on June 11th, 2010 12:38 pm

It is me, or does anyone else thing it’s not just stress and lack of sleep or interrogation that make Joran look like that in the latest fashion clip of the delicious Sporter?

I wonder if his current Attorney has asked for/recieved a request to have Joran placed on Anti-Anxiety medication? He looks like he is on something there or maybe just a bad shot bc he blinked when pic was snapped.

Either way, Pearls new title of the “Cyclops from Aruba” and the pic most definetly put a grin on my face this afternoon.

Thank you, SM for the continued coverage…we hang on for every new development.

    16. irene on June 11th, 2010 12:46 pm

I agree with Chris, can someone at SM contact the press or Natalee`s family! I am pretty sure that one of the Kalpoes brothers will speak now that Joran is in Jail…they seemed more scare to talk because of Joran than because of what they could have done…either way, they could now blame the whole thing on him anyway and just play the nice person card by bringing Natalee home….they could do it undercover or anonimous!

    17. not surprised at all on June 11th, 2010 12:47 pm

      @ Chris

Chris, it is not only the Kalpoe brothers.

It is Guido Weaver – who was the only person charged in the Holloway case – he immediately fled to the Netherlands and lawyered up with the top criminal defense attorney in the Netherlands.

It is Jeffrey Von Croimvert – whose family owned the ‘beach police’ company. He also disappeared.

It is Koen Gottenboes – whose father interfered with the investigation and miraculously, Aruba did not interview as a result. Koen has a very nice, large boat.

There are a lot of people the media could chase. This is a very, very scummy group of people. Answers will be hard when you are dealing with a corrupt criminal element tied to the justice/law enforcement establishment. Answers will be very hard to come by. No one rats out the other for fear of death.

This is my favorite photo of van der sloot. The smug Aruba look is gone. Never to return in this lifetime.

I hope he receives the max and survives all 35+ years. Initially, my wish was a life term and him living to 90 years of age.

    19. not surprised at all on June 11th, 2010 12:54 pm

Accidentally posted this on another thread….but this is pure deviousness:

Sloot tries to set-up the hotel workers by getting their fingerprints on the doorknob…..thus he could say that he wasn’t the last one in the room…..or, at least say that when he returned from coffee someone had killed her.

Look at the sloot….whatta slimeball! Throw away the key Peru! See if you can’t find a cell for Anita too!

    20. flippy on June 11th, 2010 1:09 pm

Just a guess, but I wonder if he NEVER DID go get coffee. Do we know that he did, or was this his story? He clearly tried to make it look like he went to get coffee….but did he?

there’s no coffee in those cups. he’s already killed her when he comes OUT of the room with the empty coffee cups, looks around, knocks on the door, pretends to have left his key inside, goes to the front desk. this guy is cold and calculating. he just confirmed to Peru, and the rest of the world, what we here have known all along. he’s a liar, a POS, a psycho, devious, manipulating, cunning. BUT, he’s playing ball in the wrong ballpark this time. Peru NOT aruba. they play by a different set of rules. Kudos to the Peruvian PD. good job. thank you.
God bless the Holloway and Flores’ families.

This is my fav pic of JVDS too. He looked so calm & collected with the Chilean police & watching him talk with Peru police he looked like he was just shooting the breeze with no worry that i could see on his face so now in this pic it looks like reality is finally setting in now for Jurine. He’s going down & he k knows it thats why we his desparation saying he will tell ONLY Aruba police what happened to Natalee in some bone headed idea that his feet will ever touch Aruban soil again. Nice try though Jurine….nice try.

I’m so relieved to see these charges & not pared down to manslaughter & the laughable she hit me first defense. So relieved for Stephany’s family that they don’t have watch the brutal murderer of their daughter walk away & laugh at them like he did to the Holloways.

    29. Maggie on June 11th, 2010 2:21 pm

Kalpoes won’t talk.. nor Guido..Freddy whoever, would incriminate themselves.. cover up, murder whatever.. we done this 20 times before..Think Deepak is going to say why he wanted to throw off an investigation before there was one? Or what Paulus told them sitting around the pool making up a story to frame 2 black security guards for kidnapping and murder? Why Paulus hired them attorneys before they were suspects? Guido left Aruba and hired the big high profile attorney..that defended Milosevic. Joran may talk when he realizes this is it.

Hard to say how many girls were possibly drugged, raped and robbed too before. Girls don’t remember nothing the next day.

I’ve always wondered who is paying all of these lawyers..

    30. kitty on June 11th, 2010 3:10 pm

One thing I notice that is very evident now when looking at Joran in the pic’s… compared to the last 5 years of photo’s is this…

He doesn’t have that $hitty smart a$$ smirk on his face any longer ~ Gone… nada… wiped off. He’s not smiling any more. This photo, he looks completely demonic.

    31. katablog.com on June 11th, 2010 3:25 pm

and everyone notice in that video, that Joran doesn’t look one bit upset that he’s just minutes before MURDERED a young woman named Stephany. I think he’s hoping the hotel worker will discover the body at that time and then he can act horrified and have his little alibi.

Premeditated. Devious. Evil. Cold and calculating. BTW, Ted Bundy was extremely “smart” too.

    32. fran on June 11th, 2010 3:28 pm

Joran is now facing something far more frightening than his worst nightmare of serving time in an Aruban jail.

He shoulda’ quit while he was behind and faced up to Natalee’s demise and he wouldn’t be in the position he’s in today and another young woman would be alive.

While Joran only faced a short term in Aruba for Natalee, IIRC 6 years or so, he now faces 35 years in the WORST prison system in the world.

      Natalee and Stephany’s revenge!

    33. Pat in Alabama on June 11th, 2010 3:34 pm

      #29 Maggie

I think it is the drug lords paying for the lawyers and all the rest of the cover-up. What happened with Natalee goes deep into the heart of the corrupt little island; a lot of people involved, and a lot at stake.

    34. Pearl on June 11th, 2010 3:40 pm

The contradictions and comparisons between what took place in Aruba in May 2005 through the last five years, and what took place in Peru in May 2010 and culminated in TEN DAYS – is both gut wrenching and defiantly triumphant for anyone with half a heart to witness.

It was Beth and Dave in 2005 who were paraded through the streets, sent into garbage pits and drug houses, tossed into the Aruban chaos of corruption and manipulations, danger and threats with no law enforcement from the Aruban authorities to help or support them through their heart breaking ordeal. They assailed Natalee. They harassed, shouted at, blamed and protested Beth and Dave,as though they were the criminals.

And then we have Peru: where crowds of Peruvian people, whose hearts of compassion have led them to stand in support of Stephany and her family, show up to shout and protest the PREDATOR, the CONFESSED MURDERER, the MONSTER who stole Stepaney’s life, and who robbed Natalee of her life and her family of their baby and their right to justice in Natalee’s name.

God bless the goodness in the hearts of the people of Peru.

    35. Pearl on June 11th, 2010 4:15 pm

      Yes, #33.

And as you begin to understand what Beth and Dave have been living with, what they have suffered, and how we should be so deeply grateful for our AMAZING, WONDERFUL FBI and ALL their law enforcement SUPPORTS – we are going to witness our FBI at their finest, and on the day they bring precious Natalee home (if only her truths or what every they may find that remains of her precious life)… I shall be flying my American flag, high and proud and grateful that we have men and women of honor who stood by Beth and Dave with so many other good people who worked this case, and that goodness triumphed over evil.

Now all we need is that photo of Carpe’s I think of the 2 Kalpoe brothers saying something like I am with effin stupid.. ?

    40. Susan on June 11th, 2010 5:01 pm

I agree, the Kalpoes probably fear for their own lifes if they ever spoke up and did the right thing. The evil forces in Aruba still exist and are a threat to anyone who dares to provide any information leading to the whereabouts of Natalee.

Urine van der Slut will get a LIFE SENTENCE, 35 for MURDER and LIFE for the additional robbery charge.

    41. katablog.com on June 11th, 2010 5:16 pm

      bears repeating

And then we have Peru: where crowds of Peruvian people, whose hearts of compassion have led them to stand in support of Stephany and her family, show up to shout and protest the PREDATOR, the CONFESSED MURDERER, the MONSTER who stole Stepaney’s life, and who robbed Natalee of her life and her family of their baby and their right to justice in Natalee’s name.

    43. Maggie on June 11th, 2010 6:38 pm

After Van der Sloot was loaded back into the van to be transported to Lima’s Castro Castro Miguel prison, Police General Cesar Guardia told The Daily Beast that most of what the accused murderer had confessed were blatant lies. “His toxicological report shows no signs that he had ingested any kind of drug,” Guardia said, countering Van der Sloot’s perhaps strategic claim that he was high on marijuana when he killed Flores—in Peru, felony crimes committed under the influence of drugs can be treated with leniency in the courts.

Guardia also told The Daily Beast that Van der Sloot lied about the timing of the murder. Earlier in the week, he told investigators that he had gone out to buy coffee for himself and Flores, and killed her when he returned to the room after finding the young woman on his computer. In fact, according to Guardia, hotel surveillance cameras show that Van der Sloot faked his early-morning coffee run. Instead, he left the room with two empty paper cups and then summoned a member of the hotel staff to open his door, lying that he had forgotten his key.

This, according to the Peruvian police, underscores the suspect’s attempts to cover his tracks. “In terms of the sequence of events which led him to commit this savage act, it’s true he has recounted most of what occurred,” Guardia told The Daily Beast. “But he admits there are also some parts which he doesn’t remember.” Guardia added that he thinks Van der Sloot confessed “because the evidence against him was so overwhelming, he was obliged to do so.”

Lamenting the final moments of the young woman’s life, Guardia says he believes that Flores suffered greatly at the young man’s hand. “Can you imagine how she could defend herself against a man who is two meters in height and with his physical build?” he asked. “He gave her a ferocious beating and took the life of a young Peruvian. In doing so he has injured the whole country and he will face justice.”

    44. Pearl on June 11th, 2010 7:12 pm

Senor Guardia – be her guardian.

      Be their guardian.

Protect these angels in what they have suffered, protect Stephany’s sorrowful pain and suffering, protect the light she shed upon this monster, and the sacrifice she gave in exposing the beast and the evil in his soul for all the world to see.
Preserve the evidence that bears witness to their truth of what they suffered.
Uphold the justice they beg for from the grave.
      Bring them peace.
Bring their families peace and the comfort of justice in knowing that good men and women of honor can be found behind those badges, that hope will triumph over the darkness of evil, that collectively, the forces of good can and will conquer the depraved indifference of evil.

These young girls had no one, until the good men and women of honor stepped onto the scene in Peru, along with all their silent guardians – the brave men and women working this case who refused to let Natalee’s good name and honor disappear, brave men and women who refused to allow these precious Angels to be crushed, as Aruba had made Natalee’s body disappear, while fiendishly attempting to crush her precious voice and her beautiful spirit.

      Be her guardian, Senor Guardia.
God bless you and all the good people of Peru, and all those working with you for justice – for Stephaney and Natalee!!!

The video shows him leaving the room with the 2 cups his back is to the camera but he is wearing the red striped shirt

      He had already killed Stephany.

The next clip shows him returning with the 2 cups and the clerk is unlocking the door for him.

This proves he lied about returning to find her on his compurter!!!

He had already killed her and changed his shirt before he left with the 2 cups!

@ #26…Yes..the coffee cups are empty…look how he is holding them…if they were full they would have spilled…also [already in his getaway clothes]he leaves the room at 08.35am returns at 08.39am with hotel employee and leaves for good at around 08.50..[can't quite read the time on the video monitor]…she WAS already dead..and I detect a slight smirk as he knocks on the door [knowing that no one would or could answer]…he was setting up some sort of alibi…anyone know what time he actually left in his white shirt to get the two coffees the police found in his room..?

    49. Woods on June 12th, 2010 10:07 am

I am very proud of the Peruvian PD and the Chilean for that matter. This case was solved at Olympic speed and all the police involved worked seamlessly until they had an ironclad case.

The case in Aruba could have been the same. I suspect Paulus V immediately contacted his cronies and began the cover up process with oodles of help. Even if they had 20 eyewitnesses, video and Natalee’s body, JVDS was never going to be punished there.

Ironically, JVDS would have been so much better off serving time in Aruba in their cakewalk prison system. Instead, he now faces the most strenuous conditions and for up to 35 years.

I believe Paulus died from the stress of covering his son’s crime. Every time I saw him in the news he appeared to be straining just to breathe; practically heaving his chest up and down with each breathe. His wife will likely experience an early death as well. She has been involved in this cover up too, though I am uncertain when she may have been brought in on her son’s dirty little secret.

JVDS is going to have a very long time to contemplate his crimes. I wholeheartedly believe their are many more victims to be discovered. I hope the Interpol will study his passport and therefore his movements very carefully over the past five years. Many of his victims may very well have been the “invisible” members of society who are not quickly missed or cared for in criminal investigations. Time will tell, but I really believe this is the tip of the iceberg.

SM thank you so much for your tireless coverage of this case. Though JVDS has skirted justice over the last five years, your fortitude has ensured he has been viewed as a pariah all over the world.

    50. barbreee on June 12th, 2010 11:27 am

The teeny tiny knocks on the door, what’s up with that? We can assume he has already killed Stephany as it is being said he used his shirt to strangle her. Maybe because he was in freak out mode, he really did leave the key in the room. He is being touted as intelligent. Not really, think about it. He was spinning.

If any of the SMs are old enough to remember a ground breaking, pre-Oprah, pre-Jerry Springer episode of the Merv Griffin show, in which the topic of rape was discussed. He interviewed victims and perps, and other experts. The thing that stuck in my head all these years, is to think ahead to potentially dangerous situations, and decide how to act. Victims often freeze when confronted , because of the unexpected attack. Let’s be safe out there, stay out of harm’s way young ‘uns.

Somthing must get lost in the translation between Peru and here.
this is the story on the boys confession
He said they went back to his room to do some online gambling (that answers a burning question) and that she saw email to him about the Natalee murder, she reacted with fear and punched him on the side of the head……
This makes a lot more sense.

    53. Lisa in Maryland on June 12th, 2010 1:28 pm

Barbreee Joran is playing for the camera. This isn’t his first go with video survailance.

He was going to try to make us believe that someone came into the room and killed Stephany while he was out getting coffee.

He knocks on the door as part of his ploy to make it look like he left his key. Thus the desk clerk will have to open the door and discover Stephany.

However, the desk clerk simply unlocked the door and did not enter the room so it didn’t work!

Now, he has to figure another way out of it!

This is how this coward, this pariah operates.
      He and his despicable father.

What kind of a mind can engage in such depravity?
What kind of a mind can lend SUPPORT to such depraved, cruel and vicious indifference?

This is why Dompig deserves an equal amount of outrage as does Van der Straaten.
They both knew what a insidiousness had taken place, and yet they had the arrogance and unconscionable temerity to suggest that Beth interfered with their “investigation”. Here’s the truth: BETH INTERFERED WITH THEIR OBSTRUCTIONS OF JUSTICE. BETH INTERFERED WITH THEIR CONSPIRACY AND ACCESSORY TO KIDNAPPING, CORRUPTION, OBSTRUCTIONS OF JUSTICE AND MURDER OF HER PRECIOUS BABY. That is why they hated Beth. She exposed the EVIL taking place before the eyes of ALL the world.

Aruba said they would reveal where NH body is located if Peru will allow purge sentence in Aruba.
      What is purge????
So this must mean that blatantly and boldly they are co-conspirators in a crime, knowing something and not revealing it? This is the most outrageous thing I think I have ever heard!

    57. A Texas Grandfather on June 13th, 2010 3:02 pm

Aruba and the other ABC islands are under the influence of the drug lords. This is why the justic system is so corrupt. I believe that Paulus was being paid a large sum of money to keep the drug lords protected. When he needed help to keep Joran out of trouble, they were more than happy to help because a good investigation might have revealed the entire scheme of corruption.
The list of complicit people in the cover up of Natalee’s dissapearance is long and would include most of the criminal justice system in the ABC islands and it reaches into the Netherlands as well.
These islands need to be punished by all tourists by never going to visit them either by air or ship.
Maybe Peru can persuade Joran to “out” some more of his protectors in Aruba in exchange for protecting his sorry life.
