Global Warming ‘Surreal Scientific Blunder’ in Temperature Records … Its Not Easy Being Green or Being Credible

Its not easy being Green, especially when you cannot even get the data correct.

Global warming eh? Maybe some one would like to explain the “surreal scientific blunder” and the attempted cover up? As Newsbusters states, this “should cause everyone to question the source’s past and future credibility”. The source in question is NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the outfit run by world champion globalarmist James Hansen.

Hansen has in the past stated that “heads of major fossil-fuel companies who spread disinformation about global warming should be ‘tried for high crimes against humanity and nature.’”

Nothing more need be said regarding experts and global warming that from The Other McCain, “Boggles the mind that bloggers know more about climatology than the government ‘experts’ do”.

The world has never seen such freezing heat.  (UK Telegraph)

A surreal scientific blunder last week raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming. On Monday, Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore’s chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record.

This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China’s official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its “worst snowstorm ever”. In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years.

So what explained the anomaly? GISS’s computerised temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But when expert readers of the two leading warming-sceptic blogs, Watts Up With That and Climate Audit, began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running.

Global warming takes another credibility hit from Wake Up America.

From Hot Air and could not be stated better:

NASA must investigate this episode at GISS and insist on reliable production of accurate statistics.  If they have scientists who can’t tell September from October and can’t recognize a cooling cycle in the Arctic, then they need new leadership at GISS, starting with Hansen.  The admission from GISS that they can’t verify their source data when reaching to conclusions should embarrass scientists throughout the profession, as verification of data is absolutely necessary before reaching any conclusions.  Without that, GISS may as well be studying the entrails of goats to make predictions about the future climate.

I thought algore was making his global warming claims were based in part on satellite temp readings. Yet GISS appears not to have access to this information. Guess I’d better give up my dreams of beach-front Alaska condo.

      I believe in global warming…

It’s as real as big, white polar bears

Floating on a block of ice

that USED to be his home.

      .

And to think that Sarah Palin wants a bunch

of drilling going on in Alaska?

      .

      Gee…

I wonder what bringing all that warm gas and oil

to the surface, does to the temperature of the

      earth?

      .

      Too bad.

      .

It’s time for the country to take care of their people.

Encourage farming to keep food on our plates.

Trade the commodity we have the most of…

      Wheat.

      .

The whole world needs to be fed.

      What was that saying?

      Send me your weak?

      .

      It’s time to think global.

      .

      … and for goodness sake,

      Stop exporting our raw materials

to have things put together, there.

      EVERYTHING is ‘Made in China’!

We need to make our own things…

      or do without.

Besides, half their crap is either missing,

doesn’t work, breaks down or falls apart.

      We COULD do better.

      .

      I hope I don’t look like Kermit.

pelosi will be making a speech tomorrow about how the error was caused by the bush administration. and then she’ll get on with the new ban on drilling for oil here and explain why it’s bush’s fault that she’s having to take such a tough stand.

And from the news I read the other day, the Polar Icecaps are actually GROWING again!

I couldn’t remember the original source, but this one says the same:

Qué ha hecho Al Gore, desde su película fue puesto en libertad?

Global Warming is a joke. These people that study this crap do not know what they are talking about. It’s a big crap-shot or guessing game. Giving Al Gore a Nobel Peace Prize was the biggest joke in the history of giving that award.

I’m sure the liberal tree huggers (i.e. Fox Fire, caesu, etc..)who fail to see the straight FACTS staring them in the face; much like Obama; blame George W. Bush for their false belief.

Funny, where I live, I’ve noticed how much cooler it’s been in the summer over the past 10 years…

A data set clearly marked as “Provisional” while it was being verified was found to contain an error. The error was corrected. That’s the story.

For some sanity see “Mountains out of molehills” http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid/2008/11/mountains_out_of_molehills.php

      #5 Dave

of course the polar icecap is growing!
      they start growing each autumn.

problem is that each summer the northern polar icecap melts to a smaller size.
last year was the smallest on record.
this year it came close to that.

you will always have some global warming-denier who hunts for a report and explains it how he wants it to prove their delussions.

    10. Rusty Bridges on November 17th, 2008 7:29 am

Maybe it was too cold to snow last October! LOFL.

Polar bears get stuck on floating ice that used to be their home?
The ice breaks up every year and a bear gets stuck on a chunk. That is proof positive of global warming? I saw a wild america episode with the same senario back in the 70′s. Its a natural occurance, don’t let them scare you.

      I believe in global warming…
It’s as real as big, white polar bears
Floating on a block of ice
that USED to be his home.

And this is exactly how myths continue to be perpetuated, repeating the false image given to you on TV. It was later admitted that the polar bears seen floating on the ice shown on national TV was a gimmick and left a false impression that they were somehow stranded.

But like the Obama phenomenon, there are those that simply will not hear and see.

It’s people like that who make this country a scary place to raise my little ones.

It’s funny, these types, those who spout lunacy BUT never do anything about it. Do these people donate money to this cause? DOUBT IT. These people claim of helping is to just recycle and maybe, maybe, not use aerosal cans that poke holes in the ozone….LOL!

FACTS, SCIENTIFIC FACTS are throwing this global warming MYTH on its ear.

      Polar bears can swim btw!

    13. Rusty Bridges on November 17th, 2008 11:38 am

The only global warming occuring is the hot air Gore and his minions are blowing.

My stepdaughters school forced the student body to watch Gores BS global warming movie. She was extremely distraught and suffered panic attacks because of it. Assholes owe her and all of us a big apology. Everytime I see Gore I want to puke.

Many global warming advocates (such as Al Gore) have a vested financial interest in promoting exreme measures to address a problem that has not been proven to exist. Many of the so-called experts measuring the “warming trend” supposedly caused by carbon dioxide emissions fail to take into account the mini-ice age that occurred in the late 1800′s, from which there will be some natural “global warming.” I don’t know the truth of the matter, but I’m not sure anyone else does either. Does anyone else remember in the 1970′s, many experts told us to beware of a coming ice age? Or the millenium, when many experts told us our entire society would fall apart, because of computer glitches that never occurred? I for one don’t trust a lot of experts, especially when you read that these guys don’t even know enough to double check their temperature readings. Look at the data behind all the alarmist claims, and you will find there is very little backing them up.

Just because it’s cold down here, doesn’t mean that it’s cold up there. I can tell the type of people that post on here are a bunch of ignorant, uneducated know-it-alls. I am neither blind, nor am I deaf. Besides, only one admits to being in Alaska and he wouldn’t, even, admit they hunt wolves from airplanes…

To him, women are all whores, prostitutes,

if they like Obama… and for what?

Sarah Palin and her ditsy act of conservatism?

As for the rest of you, you will never understand
the love for nature, nor the concern over
wildlife… until you’ve been to Alaska!

      :)

      What do you hunt there?

      Wild Boar?

      Opossum?

      Hood Rats?

      .

      Kiss my grits!

Maybe you need to move your kids to a place that doesn’t give a crap about its’ environment… One of those third-world countries where you can do whatever the hell you want and not have to worry about answering to anyone.

As for me, I’m staying right here conscious of the fact that for every action there is a reaction and hope that, one day, my great-great grandchildren can catch a wild salmon from the banks of a river, knowing that we are only visitors.

We have forced the bears as far as they can go. Wolves don’t exist in the lower forty-eight, and what is left of nature belongs to them. There is only one place the hump-back raise their young and they don’t need anymore black gold, like tar, on their beaches.

It is our job to take care of the earth…

      Not destroy it!

      .
