Criminal, Simply Criminal … Prosecutor Says No Criminal Charges in MySpace Suicide of Megan Meier

When will we pass laws that protect our children? This story is simply criminal. A Missouri prosecutors says that they will not file criminal charges in connection with the suicide of 13 year old Megan Meier stating that there wasn’t enough evidence. This this crime was not on-line stalking, what is?

13 year old Megan Meier’s is dead and the adults responsible skate … Justice for Megan

Mom: Web Hoax Led Girl to Kill Herself

Meier of Dardenne Prairie, Mo., committed suicide last year after being dumped by “Josh,” a boy created under the direction of Lori Drew, the mother of one of Megan’s former friends, who wanted to know what the girl was saying about her daughter online. “Their purpose was never to cause her emotional harassment that we can prove,” Banas said. “There’s a difference between what people think or what we may believe the reason was that they created this, it’s what we can prove and what a jury would believe.” Banas said statements from the neighbor and two teens who participated in the fictitious account couldn’t meet criminal standards for the state’s statutes on harassment, stalking or endangering the welfare of a child. (FOX News)

Tina Meier, 37, holds two pictures of her daughter Megan who committed suicide last October after receiving cruel messages on MySpace, Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in St. Charles, Mo. Megan Meier, 13, hanged herself after receiving mean messages on the Internet social networking site. The 16-year old boy with whom she had been communicating turned out to be a fabrication created by a mother down the street .( AP Photo/Tom Gannam)

So if the knowing acts of adults to go after and prey on a minor that results in her death death not constitute “harassment, stalking or endangering the welfare of a child,” then WHAT THE HELL DOES!!!

No Charges In Deadly MySpace Hoax

County Prosecutor Jack Banas, announcing his decision at a news conference here, said no charges could be applied under current law.

Lawyer: Mother unaware of cruel Internet messages in suicide case

Should charges have been filed in MySpace hoax?

I thought child endangerment was a crime. Foolish me.

Well — a new loophole in justice has just been found — and like any other loopholes — it needs to be addressed and PLUGGED !!!

These people are guilty of involuntary manslaughter,at the very least. They maybe didn’t mean any overt harm — but due to their actions — harm came to this girl. I don’t feel that they should be in prison for years — but I do feel that they need be punished for their crime — “not try and sneak out of it by saying they didn’t mean any harm. Someone who is driving their car with one drink under their belt feels the same way when they have an accident and the passenger in the other vehicle gets killed. The criminal system doesn’t say “oops — she didn’t mean to get in a car accident, and one drink doesn’t really mean she was incapicitated — say your sorry and walk away”. That doesn’t happen — and neither should it happen in this circumstances.
If the person who was playing a “joke” on the Meir girl didn’t know her and this had happenned I might say it truly was a sad accident. BUT — that wasn’t the case — the people who did this knew that this little girl “had problems” going in (how could they not — they lived down the street and the girls were friends!!)– and they still decided to cruelly “play” with her emotions — thus they should have known that this whole thing could have ended badly — just as it did. For this reason — fore-knowledge of the Meir girl’s delicate emotional/mental state makes this a criminal act — just as if you know someone has a heart condition and deliberately do something to scare them and they die — you know that that possibility can happen. Thus there was criminal intent — even if in this case it wasn’t on a conscious level, it had to be on a subconscious level.

Thus I feel that this is not right and the people who did this have gotten away with murder!

An absolute crying shame! I remember this being first shown on FoxNews one afternoon and I was appalled by the story. It’s unbelievable the vile and putrid neighbor or “Josh” can not or will not be prosecuted. I hope Megan’s parents file a civil suit against these parents and put them out on the street broke.

Karma is a *****! I really hope the neighbor mistakenly steps in front of moving dump truck…THEN and ONLY THEN would the world be a better place without these scumbag people.

Of course, bringing Megan back as well as Sean Taylor would also make this world a better place!

you people really need to get a life and go outside and breath fresh air for a while…instead of your own hot air. the authorities have investigated and made their ruling. let the embers fall and extinguish. i’ve known people like tina and megan meier, uncaring and manipulative both of them. yes, it is a tragedy. but her mother didn’t seem to be very much involved in her proper upbringing. maybe tina only interacted with her child only when tina wanted to. and don’t forget…all of this internet traffic, as well as the other media outlets, is making numbers of people lots of MONEY!

Can you imagine what Lori Drew does or will do to her own children?

I would be concerned with the safety of her own children, considering Lori might have some mental issues herself, when she targeted a child with known depression.

    6. Not As Stupid As You Think on December 4th, 2007 1:29 pm

#4 Jimbo: Excuse me — “you’ve known people like Tina and Megan Meir, who are uncaring and manipulative”???????? I too have known people who have “mental health issues” — but that doesn’t mean that it is alright to run a scam on them and hurt them to “get even with them”.

As for their being “Manipulative and Uncaring” — well what the Drew family did –to me that comes under the heading of “Manipulative and Uncaring”!!!!! As for leaving “the embers fall and extinguish” — I personally hope that that turns into a pipe-dream — many times justice is not served — even with the police investigating something. Good examples are Natalee Holloway, where police have withheld evidence and Drew Peterson, where the police were friends and closed their eyes on possible wrong doing.

Remember one thing Jimbo — murder, no matter how it is done, has no statue of limitations. The police can do this preliminary investigation and clear the neighbors now — but later re-open the case and nail them. I for one sincerely hope this case is not let to die and get buried — obviously from your comments that these people knew that this scam was meant to “get even” with Tina and Megan — and was successful.

    7. Scott on December 4th, 2007 1:50 pm

jimbo – talk about hot air…..

I wonder why the law has been changed if there was no crime. Think before you stink!

you don’t know these people so who and the **** are you to say that Megan’s mother was not involved in her daily activities. Obviously you have not followed this closely where it has been reported numerous times that her mother monitored and talked to her about her computer use.

You deserve whatever falls upon these parents that did this to Meagan. You don’t know these people, yet you say Tina and Meagan are manipulative and uncaring. Who the **** are you to say that?

What people are making money? Put down the bong dude!

What in the name of God is this world coming to? with idiots like number 4 spouting off at the mouth, actually once again blaming the victim and her parents???This supposed adult needs to be shot for being so cruel. What in the world is she teaching her children…she is the looney tune.

Wow, this is hard, you cannot blame children for slaming another and playing pranks, it been going on for centuries, we all have grown up with it. We as parents need to teach our children that these things may and will happen, as we have done in the past and try and teach them its not cool to do this. I hate the fact that she took her life for a boy who did not exist on the net.
Where were her parents? I have to ask this, How many times did we as men an woman want to die, because we screwed up in the past, but yet we kept on going? If some one takes their life over the net for words then they are in bad shape to start with, So , on it goes, i guess…..I feel the problem is at home from the get go, the death is already made in the mind to the one who commits it.

    13. jimbo on December 5th, 2007 10:41 am

wow…you people really amaze me. why do you think the media is reporting this at all…if both sides are right and correct there’s no story, no war, no victims. the only people that are angered by what lori drew did are people that need someone, anyone, to be perceived as a victim. apparently this ‘victim’ was already doing everything she could to ‘get her way’, wanted things done ‘her way’. and on top of all that she was medicated…on a drug that was known to be more than just connected to suicide. also, ‘may fortune favor the first stone thrower as well as the last’, it is easy to stand over a victim and yell ‘i shall avenge you’….women talk….most can’t stop once they get started….no one outside these two persons knew about what was going on. Family, friends, teachers, were ignorant of all of this? Come on! and, to all of you who are not trying to have an intelligent conversation about this, thank you….your various school systems have done a great job, kudos. remember there is always two sides to a coin, the lies have only the edge to hold on to. and neither side of my coin is drugs…

what are the laws about bullying in Missouri?

talk about the QUEEN of bullys…

      SHAME~!

(that blog was a frightening look into her justifying her actions and bullying behaivor… very scarey ~ and to think, she had accomplises that went right along with it ~ awful~!)

    15. whitetrashmom on December 5th, 2007 11:28 am

As a mom of two girls, the idea that an adult, who is a parent, could do such a thing is truly evil. I hope Lori Drew rots in hell. That blog link is just more proof that she is not only stupid but dangerous and cruel. I have the address for the St Charles County prosecutor on my blog if you want to write him a letter.

    16. Miss-Underestimated on December 5th, 2007 3:05 pm

After reading LD Blog, it is truly apparent the woman is not stable. I hope that protective services is keeping an eye on the is woman and her children.

Lori, you want everyone to back off your daughter because she doesn’t deserve it? Well HTF did Megan deserve it?

Please seek mental health support NOW, I am scared for your family and any one who comes in contact with you.

    17. kitty on December 5th, 2007 10:03 pm

I would love to know Dr. Keith Albow’s opinion of LD’s blog……..it raises many questions after reading it.

I feel so sad this happened to this beautiful vulnerable young girl and bless her parents during their grieving.

    18. Scott on December 7th, 2007 12:52 pm

Red – jimbo is the one who posted that assinine post blaming the victim and her parents not Mike.

jimbo – you’re a fool. Depression medication had nothing to do with Megan’s death. You speak in circles without making a point BUT to disparage a 13 year old girl who was DRIVEN to suicide by this evil woman. You claim, that nobody is really mad at Lori Drew, well did you happen to see the papers today Mr. Know It All….Lori Drew’s community has SHUNNED and RIGHTFULLY SO! They have asked the family to leave. She has had a brick thrown threw her house, vigils have been held for Megan outside the Drew home. NOBODY wants them in the community. WAAAHHHHH…. THEY ARE GETTING WHAT THEY DESERVE. In fact, she should be getting worse….more like, someone should hang her…..

You know nothing about this case so stop trying to pretend you do. The FACTS have been reported and the loophole in the law has been plugged so that bullies like Lori Drew can’t do this to other people.

YOUR IGNORANCE shows your level of education. Kudos to your eduacators who made you as crazy and vile and Lori Drew. How else can you explain your degrading of a deceased 13 year old girl? How is that intelligent conversation?

You don’t get it, this piece of crap, gave this known depressed girl a false sense of hope and light, only to snatch it from her in the cruelest of ways. No matter what was going on between the two daughters, does it give Lori Drew the right do what she did. It’s morally wrong and because of Megan it’s lawfully wrong too!

You probably in your somewhat twisted mind, defended the VT shooter, the Omaha Mall shooter and Sean Taylor’s murderers and blamed it on the victims somehow.

Now she’s crying about her being bullied on the Internet, WAAAAHHHHHH…… Karma’s a ______, isn’t it? She should of thought out what she was doing before she did it.

Keep lining yourself up with the Drews, you’ll be on the same lonely, isolated island the Drews are on and you might want to be careful you aren’t in the line of fire from those in that community that want that family OUT!

      Ciao

The world has seen evil psychopaths time and time again from King Leopold II, Joseph Stalin, Osama bin Laden, and now Lori Drew. Granted, Drew did not commit genocide, start wars, or destroy the World Trade Center. Seriously what makes people evil?

Drew is seriously a deranged and sick woman who never matured and has a sense of extreme entitlement mixed with self hate and resentment. Anyone who sympathizes with Lori Drew is sick in their head too and is no better than she is.
