One Happy Island, huh. Can’t we all just get along? Not on Aruba and not when the private tourism sector is in direct 
conflict with government denial. What is the Aruban government and Justice minister Rudy Croes afraid of, the truth?
Croes says that the report states that criminality in Aruba has negative consequences for the tourism. He called this nonsense.
Nonsense? Actual Minister Croes “nonsense” would be the continued denial on your and Aruba’s part that crime does exist and that it has a direct impact on why your tourism is in the tank. STOP LYING TO PEOPLE! Maybe we should take a look at the crime and murder on Aruba. You would attack someone within the Aruban tourism sector for speaking the truth. The ATA witnesses the destruction of Aruba’s tourism on a monthly basis. Maybe Minister Croes would like to offer an answer as to the plight of Aruba’s tourism.
The minister says that these kinds of assumptions hurt Aruba, while from the figures it actually appears that the criminality has dropped, considering the enormous increase of the population and compared with other countries.
It is not the assumption that hurts Aruba, its the reality. Earth to Rudy Croes … Natalee Holloway was not an assumption. The manner in how suspects confessed and then somehow did not confess is not an assumption. The method in how the ALE pathetically investigated Natalee’s disappearance was not an assumption. The fact that Aruba has three suspects that they refuse to prosecute is not an assumption.
Aruba in fact has two strikes against it as opposed to other Caribbean islands. Most people deem these places as not safe; however, in Aruba post-Natalee Holloway tourists realize that any crime that happens to them will be swept up under the carpet to protect tourism and those responsible with friends in high places.
Aruba, your tourism has fallen ever since the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in May 2005. While the rest of the Caribbean sees increases, you are in the red and at best break even these days. Why do you think that is? Beth Twitty, Natalee Holloway’s mom, goes from high school to college to public speaking event discussing International safe travels. She is a one woman wrecking crew and Aruba is the face of crime, corruption and missing persons on an international stage.

“I hereby have a message for the ATA-director. She must not make assumptions just like that and check the figures first; figures that the ministry and the Public Prosecutor have.” The minister says that these kinds of assumptions hurt Aruba, while from the figures it actually appears that the criminality has dropped, considering the enormous increase of the population and compared with other countries. Only car theft and joyriding have increased, says the minister. “We just had a very successful Caribbean Marketplace, during which there was not one incident”, said Croes.

Rudy’s right: if there’s no body, there’s no crime. Surely you don’t expect someone to suspect murder and rape just because someone confessed and was going to lead police to the body! The fact that Natalee Holloway was last seen with three boys, one who has a record of anger problems and two that lie because everyone does, and she then disappears from the face of the earth – why on earth would anyone suspect this might be due to a crime being committed?
Yeah, Aruba’s really safe. The only increase in crime is theft. Big deal. What’s the problem with a few thugs (oh, I mean kids) have a little fun at the expense of a few victims?

People who are innocent usually do not lie. I mean, think about it… why would you risk a lie, if you had done nothing to harm Natalee? You wouldn’t, you would not risk that if you were innocent. A person with even basic intelligence would not do something so stupid. There’s no payoff, it is not worth the risk.

Its going to get worse not better. I live 30 minutes from two statelines & last weekend i took a bunch of bumperstickers saying (Hey Aruba…Where’s NATALEE?) to various gas stations & 7/11′s. EVERYONE was more than happy to have them on their counter for anyone who wants one to take.
One person even sugguested having a big jar near the bumperstickers for people to put their spare change so that when the bumperstickers were gone, the clerk would use the money to make more!
NO ONE HAS FORGOTTEN NATALEE ARUBA….NOBODY!

According to Justice-minister Rudy Croes (MEP), there is not much that can be done against Twitty’s attitude. He says that declaring her as persona non grata is no option. The American media would blow that up and it can fire back at us.

She is back in all sorts of programs where she calls upon Americans to avoid Aruba as vacation destination. “I can’t understand her attitude. We did everything possible to find her daughter”, said Croes. He hopes of course that one day the teenager will show up, but he said that badmouthing would definitely not contribute to that.

Many Aruban people are very angry with Twitty and are afraid that her constant appeals against Aruba would have a negative effect on the tourism. Even though this does not reflect in the figures, the government does keep a finger on the pulse. Croes does not consider taking measures against Twitty yet, but does not rule out the possibility to shut her up in the future. The Dutch government was asked to diplomatically support Aruba in this matter.

Aside from police, judicial and government corruption, something The Netherlands found that Aruba has no law against, Anita sat with a Fox News reporter and defended and lied about her own son and ended the interview asking why Natalee would get into the car with three boys. This seems to be the attitude in Aruba. They are not wrong and shouldn’t be held accountable for their actions. It’s the American tourists who make mistakes, are easy, are stupid, arrogant, or in some way deserve it. Seems to be part of the culture. I don’t care how high or low their crime stats are, that attitude tells me you won’t get any help from their legal system if you need it.
Why is it that Americans disappear in Dutch islands, while other nationalities have accidents or are found dead on the beach?

Twitty claims that Joran was clear with the police about one thing – that he had sex with her daughter the night she disappeared.
“I had access to several statements, and in one of Joran’s statements he’s describing Natalie as she’s falling asleep and waking up, falling asleep and waking up repeatedly. And, as she’s doing this, he is explaining, he’s very sexually explicit, graphically detailing what he is doing to Natalie. OK?” Twitty said.
Twitty and her attorney would not share those documents with 48 Hours. In spite of her claim, Dompig says there is no proof of sexual assault.
Asked if Joran van der Sloot ever confessed to being sexually intimate with Natalee, Dompig says he never did.
“Believe me, we were looking for anything to throw him, to keep him in jail,” says Dompig. “The only thing he admitted to was that he was fondling [her] sexually, like kissing, touching her. And there was no sexual in terms of penetration or whatever, really having sex with her.”

I bought 400 stickers and divided them between 12 places in two states & left them all. It cost about $250.00 and when they heard the stickers were for Natalee gave a discount. I don’t have any left but i was so thankful when that clerk pulled out a BIG jar, wrapped a sticker arround it & put 5 bucks in it to start. I was troubled that i couldn’t leave more stickers at each station and they saw that and wanted to help, especially the truckstop who brought out the jar. I got alittle emotional as i do here sometimes from all of you who won’t let go. I left with the biggest smile!
I believe the Aruban cops, and the government are accesories after the fact in the murder of Natalee Holloway. And anyone who travels to that joint and is aware of the story, I hate to say this, deserves what they get. As travellers and tourists, they’re been warned already.

That is not the issue at hand. The issue is that an American girl named Natalee Holloway went to Aruba, to celebrate her grad.. Natalee has not been seen since then. Everyone knows who she was with when last seen. But, one dirty island would rather forget about Natalee. The issue is to warn other tourists, that if you go to Aruba, and you disappear…do not expect the island to care. The #1 priority on One Crappy Island, is to get your money, Period.

It seems that they (powers that be on Aruba) should have just thrown the trio to the sharks (no pun intended). And you know what? It really appeared that that is just what they intended to do until on or about June 10, 2005. What happen?

What other reason would there be for Jan Van Straaten to have outright lied to an anquished step-father. Does it not concern you that there are 7-year old boys that are murdered, mutilated and buried in Aruba? Perhaps there was the body of a seven year old boy that was among the numerous heads and bodies at the rocks. As far as why the family didn’t report him missing or claim his body, that is equally alarming.
You have visited this site long enough to know about the topics that are discussed. Do you think that there is such a thing as human trafficking? Do you think that people sell their own family members into prostitution for the right to move to another place, make a new start in a new country, away from the many woes that countries like Columbia have to offer? You are aware of the fact that people, many of them children, are forced to live out a short life tending to the cocoa fields there, aren’t you?

I was at the local gym working out, yesterday, when I saw this ridiculous ad for Aruba Tourism…”One Happy Island”… Owning a business and marketing for my own, I was aghast at this ad campaign.
Question: Who’s happy there? Merchants aren’t… the hotels that are empty, they aren’t happy…the residents, are they happy? They are probably sickened by all this, for a myraid of reasons ~

Tourism is affected greatly, due to one violent act of those who killed Natalee Holloway. They have not taken responsibility and those around who know truth, are cowards, for not coming forward, and having this murder solved.

Sadly, this Island, will never be the same and if this is what it is taking to get the attention of Aruba, to do something, by boycotting the Island ~ then so be it.
Our country, has boycotted Nations, when they do wrong… unfortunately, your entire country, is suffering, because of the murderous act of a few ~ put the pressure on, your own ~ Aruba ~ on your own countrymen ~ put your money efforts on that, rather than on your current tourism marketing campaign. Why your own countrymen, are not furious with how this investigation has been handled, and how these men, flagrantly fling their arrogance in the face of your country, including the father of Joran, is just a disgrace ~ and an embarrassment. Why has the elder Van DerSloot’s home, or property been allowed to be entered ~ they are being protected.
Make them talk ~ make them pay… they know more than they are telling and your entire country is suffering for the murderous acts of a few… haven’t you all had enough?
I feel badly for Natalee’s parents and her friends and family. Natalee is the true victim here… her parents, are also true victims here, not Aruba. It pales, to what this family has endured, truly.
Put your money toward getting answers and having closure in this case, not a pathetic ad campaign, “One Happy Island”… whoever thought that ridiculous slogan up, is not dealing with reality ~ it was laughable and really sad.

Don’t you find it odd that the official word was that one of the suspects had confessed and they were supposed to be recovering the body of Natalee Holloway?
We were all just wondering what happened, that would make them back off of their statements? Do you think it had anything to do with the fact that Nelson Oduber had just arrived back on the island? Or do you think that it had more to do with all that stuff they found there?
Makes you kinda wonder if Oduber shut everything down because there may have been some things there that were either embarrassing or, in some other way, bad for the island. I mean, I could see maybe one false report; but there were many reports, some of them actually confirming that Natalee had been found.

I’ve got some mini-placards in the back windows of my car; I think they draw more attention than bumper stickers, and they have Natalee’s picture. That’s the most important visual element, I think.
I called Boston yesterday, and they acknowledged receipt of the request for a “protest” permit. Rather than call it a protest or a demonstration, maybe I should have called it a vigil. Anyway, they said I’ll be getting a decision soon, but not this week. (Today is March 8; only two weeks to go.)
I wonder if the “hate sites” people really have been fabricating Internet posts about threats, etc. Anyone who reads here, or on other forums, will note that we do not plan to violate any laws, and will keep things quiet and respectful. Our goal is not to yell, but to persuade … show people the evidence, and then ask them to decide if Aruba is a good place to go.
If we convince one person who might have gone to Aruba not to do so, then I’ll call it a success.
Jerry/Waterboy (#39), I didn’t say the three should be burned, but either the incompetence on Aruba is as incredible as it seems or there is something at work that makes these people unable to do the simplest things.
Clearly it would be in the economic and “moral” interest of Aruba to solve the crime. The suspects are evident … at least, those of whom we know. Something must be lurking in the background that is inhibiting any kind of action.
I’ll say again … accidental deaths, and murders, happen in many places. If nothing more than this were at work here, Aruba must have known that it could have done the right thing from day one. Nobody would think there was more to it than just another tragedy.
So why didn’t they? Is this whole charade to protect just these three punks and a failed wannabe judge? Van Der Sloot didn’t even get the judgeship he wanted; that may well have been because of his notoriety, but it also shows that he’s not so powerful as all that.
Who else is being protected, and why?
I can think of two main possibilities: drug traffickers linked with powerful government figures (and those not on the inside probably have their suspicions) and human trafficking. The two often are found together.
Americans can understand an accidental death, even murder, as long as prosecution and punishment follows. What would happen to Aruba’s economy if it became known that an American girl was taken for white slavery (as is thought to be what happened to Amy Bradley)? What chance would their tourist economy have then? What money-laundering casino would get tourist business?
Needless to say, these questions are not relevant to the Boston event. We will be there not to propose answers, but to demand them.

the worst part of aruba’s public relations problem, other than the island trying vainly to destroy natalee and her family’s reputation in an attempt to cover their own crime and criminal problems, is that they do not tell tourists about things that can be harmful to their health and safety. to be succinct, did any tourist ever get warned about the dengue fever outbreak last year? not one time did i see or hear anything about the dangers involved for unaware tourists except for reports from the health minister aimed at the residents. this is just one of many things they do wrong on the island.
