WILLEMSTAD - De Arubaanse minister van Justitie Croes wil dat de Nederlandse regering het eiland verdedigt bij de Amerikaanse autoriteiten.
Ook wil Croes dat Den Haag officieel steun betuigt aan Aruba, omdat er volgens hem sytematisch spookverhalen verschijnen in de Amerikaanse media over de verdwijning van de Amerikaanse scholiere Natalee Holloway. Croes zei dat maandag na afloop van een overleg op CuraËcao met de ministers Donner (Justitie) en Pechtold (Koninkrijksrelaties) en de Antilliaanse justitieminister Dick.

This morning dutch newswire reported that Aruban justice minister Rudy Croes complained to his dutch counterpart Piet Hein Donner about the attitude of the American press in this case. ‘The reputation of the island is damaged by false reports about crime and general American mistrust of the Aruban justice system’, Croes said. ‘Aruba is a part of the Netherlands and so the reputation of the Netherlands as a whole is damaged by these press reports’.
Donner promised to relay the message to the Dutch embassy in the United States. But he’s convinced that the American government is well aware of the fact that everything is being done that needs to be done.

WILLEMSTAD - The Aruban Justice minister Croes wants the Dutch government to defend the reputation of the Island by the American authorities.
Croes wants also the official support from The Hague because, according to him ,the American press makes up ghost stories about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Croes said that Monday after a meeting with minister Donner (Justice) and Pechtold (Kingdom relations) and the Antillean justice minister Dick.
The minister is afraid for the consequences the negative press reports can have for the influx of American tourists. Some American networks present Aruba as an Island full of crime where gambling, drinking and drugs dealing is common. Also the police investigation and the JD has come under criticism. ”The believability of our justice system has come under fire” Croes told, ”we have the same system everywhere in the kingdom so the credibility of The Netherlands is dragged trough the mud”.
In Aruba 45.000 people are dependent on tourism. ”we cannot sit and watch the slandering of our name. We want The Netherlands to give us support”. Minister Donner agrees with his colleague. In a reaction he said the give matter attention with the foreign department. ”we must see how to prevent major damage to the island Aruba. Maybe we can trough our embassy in the United States correct the view of the press”.
That the American authorities criticized the Aruban government denies Donner. ” I am convinced that the American government is well aware of the fact that everything is being done that needs to be done”. The American press is already on the island for weeks covering the disappearance of Holloway.

Hey, finally something i can read and fully understand
You guys should ask yourself one question: why would a young girl go to Aruba? To see and learn from another culture and to explore it? Yeah right, and I go to Vegas to see the Vangoover dam or whatever. That girl went to Aruba to get drunk stoned and laid. She went to Aruba to party, to dance and flirt with boys (or girls) who she didn’t know, and whom she didn’t want to know. and that is exactly what she got. Unfortunatly, she met the wrong guy…
But that is no reason to avoid the island. Just don’t take (too much) drugs, don’t drink (too much) alcohol. Then you will find out that Aruba is a beautifull Island, but, as everywhere in the world, there are always people who want to take advantages of the dumb. Has something to do with Darwin i believe.
I feel that the people of ARuba should welcome any help in solving this issue and restore their dignity to their country

She is missing now for over a month. Any soveriegnty would be alarmed, concerned and persistent in finding their child.
Does anyone know what is going on with the Diario reporter (Hubert?) who was following a group trying to get off Aruba to S. America? He called into FOX live last week? After that live phone call, nothing was mentioned again. I checked Diario’s site and his name was credible.
Come on Gerrit, I don’t know if you’re a parent, but as a parent you will do and say anything to get your child back. It must be so frustrating for the family, I for one don’t judge a mother of a missing person.

We Americans realize there are many problems within our own country as does any country realize their own misfortunes, but the issue with the case of Natalee has us really questioning the integrity of the Dutch system and the Aruban bureaucracy system. We know we have missing people and that it happens every day, we know about Iraq but it does not mean we all approve of this war. There are missing people in Iraq —- um, because we are in a war. This war has nothing to do with the average American — it has to do with a President who should have never been in the position he was bestowed (in my opinion).
What you don’t understand is that Americans are smart, we don’t like when others try to pull the wool over our eyes. When we smell a rat, we smell a rat and Aruba if full of rats in their government. It is sooooo obvious that people over there know what happened or is happening and they will not press forward any information to help. They are selfish people who do not give a dam about anyone else but themselves. This does not mean it is related to everyone on Aruba or everyone from Holland.
That is why this case is different than an everyday missing person in American or in Iraq. Alot of people really do not know what happened to help. Natalee’s case leaves too many indications of deception from their own government. This is very scary. Also, you should not be calling anyone a Bitch that you do not know — you stated that people shouldn’t going around calling people guilty if they do not know and here you are calling someone a dispicable name and you don’t even know her.

It is so stupid to go to the Netherlands and cry about the negative publicity the media is giving us related to the NH case… I say, let the American public be the judge of where they want to spend their vacation dollars. Trying to invoke international pressure (which would be a humbling experience anyways) would probably create an even bigger backlash. What he (Croes) should be asking for is international judicial backup, Interpol, DEA and the CIA. Since this case is an international case between the Kingdom and the USA, these agencies should be invoked, instead of the family-linked-FBI agents.

G–I missed you..
Lastnight Shango talked of finding natalee only if the cowboys refuse the peace pipe. Some of us took this to mean “refuse to just accept the body” when it’s found and stay to continue probing to get to the bottom of who actually did it. I’m wondering now if it does not mean some type of deal or plea bargain or something. Also mention that the “cowboys would smile” with their “backs to the maze” where all the crazy stuff went down. Makes it seem that the team will find what they are looking for, but if they don’t stay and push, we won’ t ever know where the crime happened or what happened.
I have a sick feeling like others, this is not right. I find it hard to believe they are running a perfect investigation with the ups and downs. This is playing out on a larger level if you ask me. Bush should be saying or doing something. He’s got two daughters a little older, if it was one of them, well, you know what I’m saying. I know we can’t just invade another country, but I think beyond the US media, the US has been eerily quiet, and I think that is strange.
I think if this is large, the spiders web extends to many different countries, possibly back to the US.

It’s always good to know people who can advance your ideas/projects, etc. It’s a matter of respect for those he knows that he continues to name them as his friends, associates, etc. He may come across as arrogant, or self-serving, or even a little bullyish, but that’s how things get accomplished in a lot of situations down south. A man stands up for his family, goes to the wall for them, uses whatever resources he can draw on to accomplish what he considers necessary for the benefit of his family — and in the South, step-kids don’t necessarily mean they’re stepped away from….they’re gathered into the fold of the family. I would venture to say that Jug really doesn’t care what you people, or anyone, thinks about him - he just wants the little girl he’s helped to raise back where she belongs and he’s risking a lot by staying in Aruba trying to find her.

I live a mile from the Twitty family. They are normal middle class people trying to find their daughter. Ms. Twitty teaches school, Jug has a regular job in the manufacturing industry. They are not wealthy at all. They need our donations and support, not our criticism. Natalee had a few friends who are from families that were able to sacrifice by flying the family to Aruba immediately since time was of the essence.
Though I don’t know the Twittys, my son was on the trip. There are not a lot of stepfathers who would give the kind of support to Beth that he has given. He did not prepare for this role to be thrust into the spotlight. If he had, I am sure he would have gone by his given name.
This family has got to be exhausted, frustrated and nearing desperation. Their hope may be turning to anger by now. Mine would. These people need the kindest that every human heart can extend. None of us know if Joran is guilty of a crime, but lying to a desperate and fearful mother just doesn’t make him look like he had nothing to hide.

This is the stupidest idea anyone can come up with. I don’t know how old the Dutch justice system is but I doubt anything the media can say will “destroy” it. In fact I have listened carefully to cable channels in the USA and they only point out the differences in the justice systems. They have not said any system is better than another, nor disparaged the Netherlands’ system in any way.
What is obvious to everyone including the media is that all that can be done to find Natalee and resolve this case has not been done. Aruba and Holland need to deal with the real problem.

The attorney has been scheduled to appear on several instances, but for some reason she always cancels.

It doesn’t matter what legal system a society operates in. Having 8-10 days to settle matters or destroy evidence would be effective in all. Although they could not get a good enough story to stick with, the forensic evidence of Natalee being with the last people she was seen with seems to have vanished.

This started first. Then the discussion forum was opened, and speaking for my self, I found the discussion forum a bit cumbersome, so I returned here. I was used to this, felt familiar with the crowd.
I don’t think any of this bashing each other helps. I do think a few of us has come unslapped, but that’s not my job to correct. I think that probably the Aruban officials may be just a frustrated as we are, but ill-equipped to change the situation. Not having dealt with a determined, genteel southern mom before has got to be an eye-opener.
