New Orleans Travel Show … Natalee Holloway Aruban Protest … Justice for Natalee Holloway, Part I
The New Orleans Travel Show is the latest effort by concerned individuals who want to remind those in the travel and vacation booking business that people have not forgotten Natalee Holloway nor what happened in Aruba and continues to this day with regards to a cover up and lack of justice.
Let the following efforts by those that wish to remind the travel industry that it is unacceptable for a tourist to go missing and have their investigation covered up. Aruba, is not a vacation option. There are far too many other places for people to spend their hard earned money on a vacation. Promote travel to New Orleans and help revitalize their economy following Hurricane Katrina.
Lowering a price for a ticket or a package deal is not an option … Tourism industry, the only option when dealing with Aruba is … JUSTICE FOR NATALEE!
The following are the personal accounts of those on the ground including Scared Monkeys members from New Orleans: (Hat Tip: Karo)
There was good exposure for the cause today in New Orleans! Although some protesters were unable to come, last minute, and there are just 3 of us, the banners and signs are being noticed and are as well placed as possible. (Some of them are shown on the photos below.) We can only place signs on public property and Hilton Hotel security made us take down a banner they thought was too close to their property. The World Trade Center made us move signs in their lawn, near the sidewalk. Otherwise, there were no problems.

People were walking up to us and talking about the case, asking questions. Some were arrogant or rude and refused to take the nice brochures we were passing out. Others seemed extremely interested in the case and very sympathetic to Natalee’s family. Several even made it a point to tell us THEY are not going to Aruba!

Aruba Trade mission to attract Chinese tourists … Its not your Parent’s Aruba
When you can’t count on American tourism where does Aruba turn to … China. The Aruba Travel Authority has found the one country that they believe has not heard of Natalee Holloway. Watch this move change the face of Aruban tourism forever. It is truly an amazing tourism philosophy they seem to have in Aruba. Don’t fix the obvious that will cure the ills of their tourism issues, but instead market to a mass number of people like China and hope they don’t care or don’t know.
Aruba cherishes those “nouveau riche” that are fond of traveling, and of course ignoring those human rights issues in China. After all, what’s more important, tourism or human rights?
The young nouveau riche of China is very fond of traveling and the market is very large. The delegation will also talk to tour operators and travel agents.
Aruba, the Chinese are also found of their safety on vacation and making it back to Beijing alive.
Amigoe; June 13, 2007: Trade mission to attract Chinese tourists
ORANJESTAD – The most important objectives of an Aruban trade delegation that went to Beijing this week is the attraction of tourists and the establishment of an international commercial center with high-quality Chinese products, here in Aruba .
Prime Minister Nelson Oduber, Minister Nilo Swaen of Economic Affairs and Finance, and Agustin Vrolijk, director of Foreign Relations Administration are part of the delegation. Other members of the delegation are: Myrna Jansen, director of Aruba Tourism Authority, Peter Steinmetz of Aruba Airport Authority, Alfonso Boekhoudt of Aruba Ports Authority, Greg Peterson of Free Zone Aruba, Frendsel Giel of Aruba Investment Bank, Rien Schoon of Aruba Stevedoring Company, Gideon Blaauw of Ernst & Young and businessman René Kan.
Response to the LA Times, “In Holloway case, Aruba also suffers”
The LA Times recently ran an rather one sided story and in typical fashion painted the victim in a derogatory way using such ridiculous descriptions as the ”missing white woman syndrome” and the hearty-partying teen. So what does the liberal media find their agenda for a missing American teenager who’s investigation was nothing short of a crime itself, Aruba is a victim too … In Holloway case, Aruba also suffers.
News-flash to the LA Times and Aruba … one one sits back and does nothing while suffering, one has no one to blame but themselves. Are you telling us that people are not going to react adversely to what they perceive as an injustice? Are you joking? When people wrong others sometimes the only way “We the People” can fight back is with the almighty dollar. Especially to those that make it all so important. More important than human life, even.
Read the following response to the LA Times from a long time Scared Monkeys commenter, (RR) and faithful Natalee Holloway activist. The LA Times writers may want to read this as well, you may actually learn something. This is a fantastic read, make sure and do so.
Your article on Natalee Holloway today: free speech or hatchet job?
I have followed the Natalee Holloway case closely since it began. While free speech is to be encouraged, the tone of your article, which appeared online this morning, is so one-sided that I am forced to believe that your intention was to denigrate Natalee’s family.
You say the Holloway Twittys have cast Aruba’s “police force as inept bunglers.” Well, let’s see … within 48 hours of Natalee’s disappearance, Beth Twitty had arrived on the island, reviewed the videotapes at the Holiday Inn where Natalee had stayed, proved conclusively that the lies of the three suspects about returning her to the hotel were just that — lies — and had shown those same tapes to Aruban police.

Bonaire’s Tourism Was Up 54% in 2006 … What Say you Aruba?
It would appear from reports that near by Bonaire’s tourism is growing in leaps and bounds as compared to Aruba. The tourism numbers are up in the amount of tourists to the island as well as those from cruise ships. Increases in tourism of 54% hardly seem to be what Aruba has been experiencing since the disappearance of Natalee Holloway almost 2 years ago. At this rate Aruba would be excited if they had a 5.4% increase. However, as everyone knows and states except Aruba these type of positive tourism numbers will not occur until there is “Justice for Natalee”.
In 2006, the number of tourists that visited Bonaire grew with 54.3 percent to 61.844; the number of tourists that visited the island in 2005 was 40.777.
Compared to 2005, fewer cruise ships called in at the port of Kralendijk in 2006: 89 versus 78, a drop with 12.4 percent, which means that bigger cruise ships with more passengers on board are visiting Bonaire .
Amigoe, May 28, 2007: Cruise tourism grows with 54 percent
KRALENDIJK – The tourism of Bonaire enters upon a new period with a planned growth for the next three years. According to Tourism Corporation Bonaire ( TCB ), the island must grow to 80.000 tourists per year till 2009.
Aruba, No Matter How You Spin it … the Airport Numbers were Down for 2006
Aruba continues the excuse and play the spin game with regards to traffic to their airport. We all know that numbers can be manipulated to state any outcome; however, the AAA cannot spin away the fact that 4% less people used the airport in Aruba in 2006 as compared to 2005. It is a remarkable fact that their number continues to go downward. When is a 4% decrease in airport traffic a good thing? When the airport is in Aruba.
In 2006, 1.638.126 passengers used the airport compared with 1.714.523 in 2005; a drop of 4 percent.
Aruba continues to make every excuse as to the reason for the decreases, except for the obvious and most notable one.
There was a slight decrease in the region; Aruba had a forceful decrease. This can be blamed on the increased room rates of the hotels, the reduced availability of the hotel rooms due to renovations, and the enormous increase of the oil price.
Aruba believes that if they throw money at the problem that will solve their problem. However, we know different. Justice for Natalee solves their problem. The sooner they figure it out, the sooner Aruba can go on.
Steinmetz anticipates that qua number of passengers, AAA will be back on the level of 2005 in 2007. A lot of money is going to be invested in the airport on the runway, the runway lighting, the taxiway, the aprons, and the departure hall for travelers to the US .
Amigoe, May25, 2007: 2006 Was not a bad year for AAA
ORANJESTAD – Despite the drop in the number of passengers in the first 7 months of 2006, Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) closed the year with the same financial result as in 2005. The reason for this is that there was an increase in the number of passengers in the last months of 2006 and because of the considerable cut in the operational costs.
