Voinovich To Allow Bolton to Full Senate Vote

It what can only be said to be some of the most hypocritical grandstanding from both Republicans and Democrats during the Bolton nomination hearings; OH Senator George Voinovich has decided to allow Bolton to go to a full Senate vote. What decisive opinions, a man of all sides. Please pick one and stick with it, thank you.

George Voinovich of Ohio, agreed to let the nomination go to the full Senate but he called the diplomat “arrogant” and “bullying.”

Voinovich said he could not vote for the nomination, but would agree to send it to the floor without a recommendation of approval or disapproval.

Understanding that if Voinovich had actually been responsible for blocking the President’s nominee and committing what is a kin to political suicide, the Ohio Senator has taken a stand of disapproval but will not block the nomination to go through to the Senate.

“We owe it to the president to give Mr. Bolton an up-or-down vote on the floor of the U.S. Senate,” Voinovich said.

Michelle Malkin is doing a great job Boltonblogging the event or might I say circus. Let us not forget Kerry Boltonblogging, you know that has to be a gem.

Earlier in the session, Voinovich had made the reference that Bolton would have been fired for his actions if he had been in a major commercial organization.

“Bolton would have been fired if he worked for a major corporation,” Voinovich said as the panel opened final debate on the nomination. Bolton is “the poster child for what someone in the diplomatic corps should not be,” Voinovich said.

I would disagree with the esteemed gentleman from Ohio. It works a little different in the private sector than Inside the Beltway Senator. Maybe its people like Bolton who are what is needed at the UN to correct the disarray and corruption that exists there. I would further go to say that maybe its a guy like Bolton who should be a US Republican Senator instead of the many that presently exist without vertebrae.

BRAC Coming to a Military Base Near You

Due to (BRAC), tomorrow most likely in Southern Maine and the New Hampshire seacoast will be referred to as Friday the 13th or Black Friday. The .The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will most likely wind up on the base closure list along with many others around the country. Many eyes will be on BRAC, The Base Realignment and Closure Commission list tomorrow as the closures this time will be effecting many states.

I do not have a horse in this race, although I do have friends that work on the base. The local newspapers have had a constant barrage of editorials and stories claiming the shipyard closure would ruin the economy. I am not completely sure I buy that argument as the local economy has changed so drastically from the day when the last round of closures occurred and Pease Air Force Base was closed. Like it or not the Portsmouth, NH & Kittery, ME area is fueled by tourism as seen by the complete transformation of the downtown Portsmouth area. Also the influx of Bostonians fleeing the city, traffic and taxes have transformed the area as well.

There has been a concerted effort by the shipyard to prevent the shipyard from being put on the base closure list as seen by the 9000 letters to Rusmsfeld and a protest march that was done recently. Many of which I believe had good intension I just wonder whether in some cases it may have been too little too late.

I will continue posting through out the day on some of the positives and negatives that come with base closure. Things that can be done and should have been done. I would compare base closures to down sizing in the private sector of the economy. No one likes them to happen in their area but they are a necessary evil and do occur. I believe if it were me and my job and livelihood was on the line that I would do everything humanly possible to save my job. EVERYTHING.

Could Iris Scanning be Coming To an Airport Near You

The Orlando International Airport will begin a 90 day test period of optical iris scanning as the latest high tech method to help in the war on terror. According to the report individuals will have both irises scanned to determine their identity and add to the many methods already implemented to help fight in the war on terror.

“This will be an additional layer of information that is enrolled, which will be biometric information,” OIA director of security Brigitte Rivera Goersch said. “Employees irises will be enrolled for the additional layer of security.”

If all goes well it would appear that iris scanning will become permanent and be introduced to airports throughout the United States. Any additional method to protect us from another 9-11 cannot be a bad thing.

Its Always Funny Until Someone Gets Hurt, Or Really Embarrassed

The warning always says, do not try this at home might be dangerous; they are trained professionals. I guess one can add do not try in a hotel room either. In what will be something that this honeymoon couple does not live down anytime in the near future; a Shanghai couple have filed a complaint against a local hotel after the groom broke his arm during bedroom fun and games.

“My husband slipped right after he stood up on the bed to get ready for the games,” Fang told the Shanghai Daily.

Fang said “the hotel had provided unsafe facilities”, the newspaper added.

I guess it’s all how you define the word, “games”. I may be going out on a limb here, but I think the finger in the chili had a better shot of winning. But that’s just my opinion.

Who Says Democrats Don’t Have a Sense of Humor

Via the Drudge Report:

DEM CONGRESSMEN: CONSERVATIVE VOICES ON PBS MAY BE ILLEGAL

Two congressional Democrats called Wednesday for an investigation into recent activities by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, suggesting that efforts by the Republican chairman of the private nonprofit to add more conservative programs onto PBS may violate federal law.

In a letter released Wednesday evening, Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., and Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., asked CPB Inspector General Kenneth A. Konz to investigate the contracting, hiring and policies of the corporation, which distributes federal funds to public television stations. Both congressmen are ranking Democrats on committees that have oversight of public television.

They called recent actions taken by CPB Chairman Kenneth Tomlinson “disturbing” and “extremely troubling.”.

If this wasn’t so pathetic it would be funny. Maybe the two Democrats on the oversight committee on public television after they explain their intimidation tactics and abuse of power may want to explain why only liberal agendas are allowed on PBS.

An effort to provide both sides of the political spectrum on public television is breaking the law? The sick part about this is in the minds of Democrats it probably is. With conservative voices gaining footholds in the media, the Democrats must be feeling the pinch as it spreads to public TV.

I thought Democrats were for “affirmative action”? Wouldn’t this be the same thing? Its conservative voice affirmative action on the public airwaves. I just can’t wait to hear how adding more conservative programs onto PBS violates federal law. The Democrats are truly pathetic and getting worse.
