When Socialist Unite: Venezuelan Communist Dictator Chavez Wants to be Friends with Barack Obama … The Hand Shake

With Friends Like This … Obama’s Mr Rogers Diplomacy … Good Grief. Barack Obama no longer an idiot to a communist dictator.

Obama_chavez_handshake

The Latin Variation Of The Jihadist Fist Bump, there is nothing more special than when socialists greet.

In a clear indication Chavez sought to leverage his brief encounter with Obama at the opening ceremonies of the fifth Summit of the Americas here, Chavez’s government Web site almost immediately posted a photo of the two leaders and a government-approved commentary in Spanish that read as follows:

Here is change you can believe in. A couple weeks back, Venezuelan Communist Dictator Chavez called Obama an idiot and an ignoramus … now he says, “I’d like to be your friend.” . So this is how we treat sworn enemies of the United States, this is a National disgrace

From Jules Crittenden, Won’t you be my neighbor?

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?

It’s a neighborly day in this beautywood,
A neighborly day for a beauty,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?

I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I’ve always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

President Barack Obama, left, shakes hands with Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez at the5th Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Friday, April 17, 2009

“Before the Inaugural session of the 5th Summit of the Americas, the President of the United States approached President Chavez to greet him. They both drew their hands in a historic handshake after many years of tension under the Bush administration, when relations between Washington and Caracas had deteriorated.

How naive could Barack Obama be? How naive and inept is the US foreign policy under President Obama? These are the friendships that the United States needs to mend? He just created a photo-op that Chavez will use for the next 4 years. What’s next chest bumps with Kim Jung-Il? A special thanks to Barack Obama for just legitimizing a dictator. Obama has stated in the past that he was against the war in Iraq and Saddam. Does that mean if he were President back then he would have given Saddam a man hug instead?

It took the White House almost three hours to confirm the handshake. As of 9:20 p.m. EST there was no indication the White House intended to release any photos. A senior administration official declined to describe the leaders’ glancing conversation, but did not dispute the Venezuelan government’s account.

Late Friday, Obama told reporters he said to Chavez: “Como Esta?” (How are you?)

At least he didn’t bow.

From Allahpundit, this is what you voted for America … does anyone smell sulfur? The President of the United States has just elevated a communist dictator to the same status as a US President.

You wanted it, America, you got it. Via Tapper, the long-awaited meeting between the “destructive force” and the “ignoramus” hath come to pass.

UPDATE I: From Blue Crab Boulevard, Obama’s European Apology Tour® is paying off with big dividends in Latin America. The Obama Administration actually believes their own news clippings in that Obama is more popular than Chavez in Venezuela? Are they joking? Maybe Obama can resign from office and run for President in Venezuela if that is the case.

In an interview with ABC News, Jeffrey Davidow — a senior adviser to President Obama on Latin American affairs and director of the Summit of the Americas — said that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez rushed a photograph of he and President Obama shaking hands onto his government’s website because Mr. Obama is more popular than Mr. Chavez in Venezuela.

Asked if he was saying that President Obama is more popular in Venezuela than President Chavez, Davidow said, “yeah.”

UPDATE II: Chavez Gives Obama the Gift that Keeps on Giving … A Book That Assails U.S. for Exploiting Latin America

At President Obama’s meeting with the heads of South American countries this morning, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez stood, walked over to him, and presented him with a copy of “Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent” by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano.

Obama politely posed for a photograph with Chavez, shook his hand, and accepted the gift.

The book, first published in Spanish in 1971, offers a critique of the consequences of 500 years of European and U.S. colonization of Latin America.

A clueless and naive “socialist dictator in training”, Barack Obama, shakes hands with Chavez as Chavez Punks Obama with America Bashing Book.

Nor was President Nixon any longer an idiot to a communist dictator when he decided to visit Red China and officially lift the Bamboo curtain.

At least 20-30 MILLION people were not only denied their human rights but were murdered by that dictatorship but it did not stop us from recognizing that bloodthirsty regime(which still exists today, in case you forgot).

So this one doesn’t surprise me, either. Maybe some good will come out of it, like Nixon’s did.

#2. Please do not compare Nixon to China and Obama to Venezulea.

They are not even in the same ballpark.

Nixon did not go to China to embrace them as Obama did Chavez. Think Nixon might have taken exception with getting such a book from Mao?

#3 who is Moa? you mean Mao?

and to compare with Mao/China en Chavez/Venezuela: they are indeed not in the same ballpark.

Mao was a murderous dictator who killed millions and millions.
still Nixon/war criminal Kissinger met with him and established relations.

Chavez is nowhere near Mao, and it is perfectly ok to meet with other heads of state at this Summit of the Americas.

I agree with your assessment Scared Monkeys. Just look at what BO’s overture to Iran has resulted in. An innocent American journalist jailed for 8 years for “spying”. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is laughing at the completely clueless and ball-less Obama. And North Korea, are they shaking in their boots after testing a ballistic missile. This is what BO said in Europe after North Korea launched the missile “Rules must be binding. Violations must be punished. Words must mean something.” Words must mean something? Hey BO, go rent and watch “Team America: World Police” and you will learn more about dealing with North Korea than asking your Sec of State Hilary Clinton, or her hubby, the Bubba. And to complete this trifecta, BO is reaching out to Cuba, a communist country with most likely the worst human rights record of any country in the Western Hemisphere in the past 50 years. A country with no freedom of press and where critics of the Castro Regime end up in prision for a very long time. Keep it up BO, your foreign policy of less than a hundred days makes Jimmy Carter look like Winston Churchill.

      Caesu,

I did find your reference to President Nixon and Sec Kissinger unfair and abrasive, however, as they still represented the best interests of our Democratic way of life. That may be what set off SM.

But the comparison between the two leaders of our country(Nixon/Obama)with antagonistic/hostile countries stands. The old saw that politics makes for strange bedfellows still stands the test of time, in this case as in Nixon’s term of office. I just accept the history as it happened then and is happening now.

Nixon did not embrace Communist China nor belive in it.

On the other hand, Obama might as well run as Chazez’s sidekick.

You do not open relations with a dictator while $H%#@ing on your own country. Onama allowed himself to be a pawn. Seems to be an all to willing pawn and apologist these days.

To a dictator … What Obama is doing is not looked upon as RESPECT … it is looked upon as weakness.

Even the Bible says we are to love others as we love ourselves. Diplomacy is great. But, I’m not sure that these two really fit in the same picture with each other. They are of two totally opposite mindsets.

      Dan:

Living as an American in Venezuela is alot different than living there as a Venezuelan or as a human that is marketed in and out of it’s borders. Venezuela is corrupt to the point where many of THEIR neighbors in the Caribbean will not buy their oil for fear of drug smuggling. Venezuela will not allow Americans to monitor its’ airspace in search of drug cartel. Venezuela has filled its’ pockets with blood money and the sufferings of fellow human beings through addiction to drugs.

Perhaps Obama is right in his thinking. Make friends of your enemies… but my only word of advise would be not to turn his back to them.

      GLOBAL MONETARY COLLAPSE THIS SUMMER

      (Google-transl.)

      http://frontpage.fok.nl/nieuws/109518/-Wereldwijde-monetaire-ineenstorting-deze-zomer.html

The European think tank LEAP/E2020 (European Laboratory of Political Anticipation) predicts in a new report this summer a “global monetary collapse.” The independent think tank has a little track record built up by, for example, in February 2006 whether to predict that the credit crisis in September 2008 in all severity would occur.

China is as good as stopped buying U.S. government bonds. The emerging country, even the Chinese stock of 1.4 trillion dollars by reducing the massive materials as copper, zinc and aluminum strategically to save it. Beijing would, according to LEAP/E2020 in secret started to take action, to the end of the summer of 2009 to the final fall of the U.S. dollar to escape.

Chinese foreign reserves growth 2001-2009 in billions of dollars

“If the U.S. goes bankrupt once its enormous debt, the ‘every man for himself’ in order to survive as internationally. This is fully in line with the agreements reached during the recent G20 summit in London, which represent the emergence of a geopolitical disruption, “said the think tank.

LEAP/E2020: “Behind the puppet theater in London, where everyone pretended they believed that a historical international cooperation in progress was unveiled the G20 summit in fact enormous differences. The Americans and British, with a docile Japan their wake, trying desperately to take control of the global financial system to preserve any form of sharing power with other world players, to block or weaken. But they are no longer powerful enough to achieve this goal. ”

The mainland of Europe should take the lead in creating a new world reserve currency, based on the world’s major currencies. LEAP/E2020: “The Europeans also know the political approach to the strategic interests of the different countries combine their currencies to the new international reserve currency have become.” However it fails Europe by failing to take action.

The think tank for the end of this summer’s bankruptcy of the U.S.. Starting this month, the boom already out as to how the tax revenue (in April, the U.S. tax month) of the country are quite dry. The debt mountain would be uncontrollable large towering expenditure (+41%) and collapsing tax revenues (-28%).

Although your post is more diatribe than a rational discussion of the subject matter, you do make a point when you state that the philosophy being manifested today of “either with us or against us” is passe as it worked to the Republican parties detriment over the past eight years.

A shift back to sound Republican principals is required to achieve the trust in the once “silent majority” and bring back the Grand Old Party to Washington.

#14 SM, there is no question that President Reagan lifted the Iron Curtain through a subtle yet effective diplomacy, joking without bullying or condescending. You have to remember that it was the openness and airing of our free way of life, rock and roll and blue jeans et al, that the youth of the Soviets Iron Curtain countries saw and desired. They were not their parents and rebellion was set from the model of our democratic lifestyle. The Soviet chains were rusting due to the water that our President was pouring on it. He may not have hugged the leaders but he very well would have talked to them. Showing our way of life indeed planted seeds in the heads of the subjugated residents of the Soviet Union and its satellites. That is what we need to take place today, in Cuba, North Korea and anywhere else.

President Nixon and President Eisenhower also had effective communicative methods that the general public related to without casting their opposition Democratic party as a “great Satan”, as both parties have done in this last decade. Although I maintain that President Bush has failed us in several areas, he also kept us safe from harm and the Gitmo “torture” claims are so overblown and non-existant as to be, to borrow a word from Dan buffoonery.

Want to know what torture is? Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Red China(even today) will supply some answers. The Islamic terrorists who captured and beheaded those who dared questioned their beliefs were pretty proficint themselves with torturing their captives. So please, even trying to compare Gitmo and the other prison abu-forgot the name in Iraq is in essence pretty lame.

But I digress. When an opposing side(right or left) does something that will benefit the country we look desperate when we grope for a reason to make the action look bad. If there are disagreements with policy, intelligent debate should prevail. Sophomoric reactions and diatribe only serve to distance the American public and do a disservice to the party itself.

      Re #34 and #38
This is the qrm(man-made noise) that I speak of. The unfortunate unintelligible prattle that cheapens the value of a forum(although I do respect SM to allow whatever they want on the board that they own)only waters down the quality of what can be a professional forum, as the moderators are intelligent in their selection of topics and almost all points of view.

This is reminiscent of the movie “Forbidden Planet”, wherein the Krell, a civilization 500 centuries ahead of earth met their demise overnight from the “monsters from the id”. I venture to guess the even a formidable board like Scared Monkeys has theirs as well.

By the way, if history is any guide, most, if not all, dictators were ELECTED, so the argument of elections is topheavy with contradictions. Mao, Stalin and Hitler were elected as was dearest fearless leader of North Korea today. So I would assert that Chavez is a dictator by the repressive actions of the government he runs.

Chavez is a nice guy, he feeds his people and gives them electricity and tv and medical. Nobody has to work if they don’t want too and people who do work pay taxes that support the govt. programs.

It is such a nice system, people love their poppy and want to keep him in office for a long time.

If you want to be selfish and not help out you can to move to the US and open your business. Very unpatriotic if you ask me. You should be happy and enjoy your hobbies like eating free food in your free apartment while watching chavez tv and make babies at night.

Here idiot and to the other idiots out there who do not think Chavez is a dictator:

Hugo Chavez has cultivated a world image of a cuddly, mischievous leftist.

But behind the softy socialist persona is a ruthless politician, a Venezuelan president whose regime is described by the U.S. State Department and others as one of the world’s leading abusers of human, political and social rights.

Chavez’s transgressions since taking office in 1999 have amounted to much more than merely throwing insults, as he did at former President Bush at the opening session of the 2006 U.N. General Assembly. It was there that Chavez described the American president, who had spoken one day earlier, as the “devil” whose sulfur stench remained at the podium.

      Human Rights Violations

A 2006 State Department report on human rights documented a slew of abuses, including data implicating Chavez’s security forces in about 6,000 killings over five years.

The department’s annual Country Report on Human Rights practices released in March 2008 cited The Venezuelan Program of Action and Education in Human Rights statistic of 165 unlawful killings by Chavez security forces from October 2006 through September 2007.

The group reported that it received 11 complaints of torture and 692 complaints of cruel or degrading treatment during the same period, which was actually a decline from the year before.

“Reports of beatings and other humiliating treatment of suspects during arrests were common and involved various law enforcement agencies,” reads the 2008 State Department report.

      Workers Rights and Election Tampering

Alarms have been raised recently about Chavez’s crackdown on his political opponents.

Manuel Rosales, mayor of Maracaibo, dropped out of sight a few weeks ago after the government filed corruption charges against him. Supporters say he has gone into hiding.

And he’s not alone. Antonio Ledezma, another Chavez opponent, was elected mayor of Caracas in 2008 but is being barred from his office by his own police force, which attacked him when he tried to enter it.

“What’s going on is persecution,” said Susan Purcell, director of the Center for Hemispheric Policy at the University of Miami.

The crackdown began after Chavez won the battle to remove presidential term limits, amending the nation’s constitution in a February referendum.

“Discrimination on political grounds has been a defining feature of the Chavez presidency,” Human Rights Watch wrote in a 2008 report, titled “A Decade Under Chavez.”

The report said while Chavez came into office pursuing human rights reforms, a short-lived 2002 coup changed that aim and provided a “pretext” for government policies that undercut those protections. The Venezuelan government kicked Human Rights Watch monitors out of the country shortly after the report was released.

According to the Human Rights Watch report, Chavez:

      – Maneuvered a “political takeover” of the Supreme Court in 2004 by the president and his allies by signing legislation allowing his supporters to “pack and purge” the court.

      – Fired and blacklisted political opponents from state agencies and the Venezuelan oil company.

      – Denied citizens with unfavorable political opinions access to social programs.

      – Required state oversight and certification of union elections.

      – Engaged in reprisals against striking oil workers.

      – Subjected rights advocates to exaggerated charges and groundless investigations.

      Media Control

Reporters Without Borders took Chavez to task in its 2008 report on press freedoms. It reported that Chavez:

      – Shut down RCTV, the major Venezuelan TV station, in 2007 by refusing to renew its license. Though Chavez apparently said he was not renewing the license because the station backed the 2002 coup, Reporters Without Borders said in its report that Chavez had a more sinister motive, since another TV station that backed the coup was allowed to continue operating. (RCTV later moved to cable, but was still threatened.)

      – Controls “nearly all the country’s broadcasting.” Chavez went on TV 1,500 times for more than 900 hours between January 1999 and November 2007. Plus he took up 1,000 hours on his Sunday show Alo Presidente.

      – Pushed for the creation of about 60 newspapers to support his agenda.

The State Department report also noted that harsh freedom-of-speech and press laws are still on the books in Venezuela.

      – The penal code was amended in 2005 so that insulting the president is punishable by up to 30 months in prison.

      – Inaccurate reporting that disturbs the public peace carries a sentence of up to five years.

Those laws have not prevented Chavez and his officials from singling out certain publications, according to the State Department.

“Independent media outlets and journalists were subject to public harassment by high-ranking government officials on state-owned media,” the report reads. “The independent print media regularly engaged in self-censorship due to fear of government reprisal and in order to comply with laws regulating the media.”

Let’s see, he’s killed people for opposing him, forced opponents into hiding, denied CITIZENs with opposing ideas the benefit of certain social programs, practically fixed elections, YET he’s not a dictator? LOL! Fools! He is NOT HUMANE to say the least….Obama is looking more like him by the day!

As for how Jimmy Carter did with his foreign policy he’s the only one that was able to make a lasting peace with Egypt and Israel — remember? Israel and Egypt ended 30 years of war with an historic peace treaty brokered by the United States and then President Jimmy Carter. That peace treaty still exists today.
