Todd Akin Asks For Forgiveness and Releases New “Rape Is an Evil Act” Ad (Video)
Hmm, maybe Todd Akin is not going to step down as the Republican Senate candidate of Missouri after all?
As of last night pretty much everyone was asking Akin to step down following his ill advised “rape” comments. It was also reported that he was supposed to have a presser this morning at 9 am where most thought that he would announce that he would quit the race. However, overnight the following “Rape Is an Evil Act” ad was released and he asked for forgiveness.
Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin has recorded a television ad asking for “forgiveness” from the voters of his state and acknowledging that he used “the wrong words in the wrong way” when he suggested last weekend that rape rarely leads to pregnancy.
The Republican congressman has come under heavy fire from national Republicans for his comments and has been urged by some to drop his candidacy before the no-penalty withdrawal deadline of 5 p.m. today. Akin has said he will move ahead with his bid against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill and the spot is an indication that he plans to follow through.
The commercial, which was shared with POLITICO, shows Akin speaking directly to the camera and explaining that he has compassion for the victims of rape.
“Rape is an evil act. I used the wrong words in the wrong way and for that I apologize. As the father of two daughters, I want tough justice for predators. I have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. I pray for them,” Akin says. “The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy. The truth is, rape has many victims.”
A note to Todd Akins, politics also has many victims who make foolish, misguided and ignorant comments on hot button topics like rape. Asking for forgiveness is perfectly fine and you may be; however, that does not mean that you can stay in the Missouri Senate race. Akin is toxic and no one is going to touch him. If Akin stays in the race it tells much about him as a man. Not only is he prone to ignorant comments and able to be baited into an argument he can never win, he also cares more about himself than he does his party or America. As stated at the PJ Tatler, Akin is about to drag the entire republican down in the mess of his creating. This was exactly the issue that Democrats and the complicit Obama MSM needed to distract the political talk away from the economy and jobs and to a lesser, but more emotional topic.
The entire party is in danger of being dragged down because Akin and his allies among social conservatives only see a single issue — abortion — in the candidate’s words. In fact, his musings about a woman’s body magically rejecting a rapist’s sperm play to the notion of Republicans being anti-science. His ill informed statement about “legitimate” rape angered not only women, but every father in America with a daughter. His ignorance about incidents of rape not resulting in pregnancies revealed the candidate to be shockingly unfit to serve.
The issue isn’t abortion; the issue is whether Mr. Akin and his social conservative allies will become living symbols of every nasty thing the Democrats say about Republicans. It’s a slam dunk, no brainer, sure thing that Democrats and the Obama campaign will seek to wrap Akin’s words around the necks of every GOP candidate, including the top of the ticket, if he stays in the race.

It matters not what Akin says in any so-called apology; his original comments were from his principles, as his bills that address this same topic demonstrate.
And you can’t disavow or apologize for your principles (and not change them), and remain a serious politician (or human being for that matter).
The comment was completely unintelligent for an elected official. Get him out! There is a cause to remove him spreading across the Web – http://www.youstand.com/cause/82112/remove-todd-akin-from-the-house-science-committee
read more. the democrats actually spent 150 million to get him in this election. something smells of democrat coprruption as usual. they always have the smell of death around their gatherings.
$150M ???? Now why does that sound made up? Of course, who needs proof if the story seems useful?
BTW, since Citizens United, I thought money spent on politics was just fine. In any case, what could make it possibly be corrupt?
