ROGER CLEMENS … NOT GUILTY … FEDS STRIKE OUT!!!
Major League Baseball great and seven time Cy Young award winner Roger Clemens has been found not guilty and acquitted on two counts of perjury, obstruction of Congress and three counts of making false statements to Congress in connection with alleged steroid use. GOOD, the case never should have been tried in the first place!!! Following the not guilty jury verdict Clemens thanked his family, lawyers and others who have supported him during the trial where he was accused of using illicit performance enhancing drugs. In the end the jury did not believe the US attorneys made their case, not did they believe Clemens’ former personal trainer, Brian McNamee, who the Defense stated had incentive to lie.
Legendary baseball pitcher Roger Clemens was found not guilty Monday of lying to Congress during an investigation of steroid use among major league players.
The case against Clemens involved one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury. He was not charged with illicit use of performance-enhancing drugs, but his denial of such use was part of the case against him.
A federal jury found him not guilty on all six counts.
Clemens wiped his eyes after the verdict was announced, then hugged his likewise emotional sons. His lawyer, Rusty Hardin, meanwhile, gave a thumbs-up to the jury before leaving the courtroom.
“Mr. Clemens, you’re free to go,” Judge Reggie Walton said.
Clemens had been charged with lying to Congress in 2008 when he insisted he never used steroids or human-growth hormone during his remarkably lengthy career.What a joke. If this is the case then 90% of Congress should be charged with lying to ‘We the People”.
Mum was the word from the U.S. attorney’s office in the District of Columbia regarding the verdict except to thank the jury and investigators in a brief statement, “We respect the judicial process and the jury’s verdict.” They may not have said anything, but I shall. At some point the witch hunt against Clemens was no longer about steroids or PED’s. In much like many of the cases conducted by the US Justice Department these days, this case was nothing more than judicial over-reach. Congress had no authority to perform the inquisitions in the first place. What a waste of time and the tax payers money. One would think that there were more important individuals to try instead of a former MLB player? As stated by the American Thinker, “a reported 3 million dollars in taxpayers’ money being expended on prosecuting him twice — the first prosecution ending in a mistrial owing to federal proprietorial misconduct, the jury refused to convict.”
This is the second embarrassing and devastating loss for the Eric Holder Justice Department in as many weeks. Just a couple of weeks ago former North Carolina Democrat Senator John Edwards was found not guilty on one count and a mistrial on five others. The Justice Department decided not to pursue the five counts. Yet some how Holder’s Justice Department could not find it in themselves to prosecute club wielding voter intimidation Black Panthers.

I despise Roger Clemens for the Man that he is. While there is no getting around the fact that in his Prime, Clemens was a legendary Pitcher…
He is a liar. And a cheat. He juiced, and lied.
He sucks, and I hated him when he pitched for Boston as well. Even before the Steriod scandal, this Man’s ego and overall adtitude while here always reeked of arrogance.
Get over yourself, Roger. Many of us here in Boston did a long time ago.
That all may be true but the US Govt had no right to try him.
Baseball is baseball. If Congress cared so much about lying then all would have their mouths permanently crazy-glued.

#2. SM. Duly noted. Everyone knows that many in Professional Sports regularly use Performance Enhancing drugs.
So, why aren’t the Commissioners of the NFL, NBA, NHL and NBL taking more action? It’s all about the money. Big Stars and top performers equal big ticket Sales.
My respect goes to the Athletes who break records and are top achievers based upon their natural athletic abilities. Those also who give back to their Communities and are positive role models for our Youth are what great Sports legends are made of. They are only Professional Athletes, not Gods or Superheroes.
My real heroes wear a different kind of Uniform every day, and don’t get paid much at all.
Agreed, athletes are athletes, but those who defend our country are the real heroes.
As a former MLB player, I saw firsthand what this has done to the sport and all sports. This issue involves integrity. He may have been acquitted in a court of law but the damage done on his reputation, his integrity and his ethics will forever be damaged and rightfully so. Honesty goes a long way. BB
#6-Bill- Well said. Wonder if Clemens will make it to the MLB Hall of Fame after this? He may already be in it for all I know, but I really haven’t ever followed his Career…any time he is in the News it has not been anything positive for years now.
Integrity is a priceless attribute in Professional Sports, and life itself,,,Indeed.
