17 Year Old Tarod Thornhill Wanted as Suspect in the Monroeville Mall Shooting that Wounded Three People (Update: Teen Arrested & Charged with Aggravated Assault and Attempted Homicide)
SHOOTING AT MONROEVILLE MALL …
A shooting has occurred Saturday night at the Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, PA. According to reports, three people have been shot, two critically, as gunfire broke out in the Monroeville Mall around 7:35 PM. Two of the victims, both males, ages 20 and 60, were in critical condition at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, while the third victim, a 47-year-old woman, was at the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. As per Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole at a news conference Saturday night, the shootings took place inside the ground floor of Macy’s and “It was a targeted shooting.” According to police, the 20 year old victim was the target of the shooting, the otfer two victims were bystanders. The shooting is the third incident at Monroeville Mall within the past two months.
Lt. Schurman described the shooter as a light-skinned black male in his late teens, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing dark clothing with writing on his shirt.
Three people were wounded — two critically — when gunfire broke out Saturday at Monroeville Mall around 7:35 p.m. The mall was evacuated, store by store, and placed on lockdown while police scoured the complex in a fruitless search for the shooter.
The shootings took place inside the ground floor of Macy’s. “It was a targeted shooting,” said Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole at a news conference Saturday night. “We have many leads and we are following them up.” He said one gun was involved and that probably two shots were fired.
Two of the victims, both males, ages 20 and 60, were in critical condition at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. The third victim, a 47-year-old woman, was at the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
The 20-year-old was the target of the shooter; the second man and the woman were bystanders in Macy’s, Chief Cole said.

UPDATE II: Teen Arrested in Mall Shooting.
Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with a triple shooting at a Pittsburgh-area mall.
The shooting happened Saturday night inside a Macy’s at the Monroeville Mall, sending shoppers running for their lives. The gunman managed to escape, but police said they were able to identify him by matching surveillance video with images on social media.
The suspect was arrested Sunday morning at a home in Brackenridge and is being held at the Allegheny County Jail while awaiting arraignment.
Allegheny County Police have confirmed that at roughly 3:15 am on Sunday an arrest was made in the shooting case from Monroeville Mall.
Tarod Thornhill, 17, was arrested at a residence in Brackenridge. Using images captured from social media and store video surveillance detectives were able to positively identify Thornhill.
The criminal complaint says that security footage shows Thornhill pulling his semi-automatic gun out and exchanging words with his intended victim.
Thornhill is charged as an adult with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, risking a catastrophe, recklessly endangering other people and firearms violations. He will be lodged at the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
