3 Week Old Baby Missing Since 1/23/15 in Newhall, CA Found Dead (Update: Father, Matthew Warner Arrested)

 

A three week old baby who had been missing since January 23, 2015 has been found dead. The parents of the missing infant didn’t call 911, but instead went to the Santa Clarita Valley Station Friday at around 9:35 p.m. and told authorities their daughter was missing from their home. Overnight, more than 50 personnel from the Santa Clarita Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale sheriff’s stations, as well as search-and-rescue crews and air units helped search for the missing girl.  Sadly, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said the the baby’s body was found in a pickup truck in a parking lot in the 23630 block of Newhall Avenue around 8 a.m Saturday morning.

Sheriff’s officials reported there are multiple scenes under investigation. They are not releasing any information at this time about a possible suspect or suspects.

“(On Friday) at 9:35 p.m., the parents of a 3-week-old female walked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station lobby,” said Sheriff’s Station Lt. Brenda Cambra, “and reported that their baby was missing from their home on the 21300 block of Alder Street.” (MAP)

“Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the home and searched the location for the baby,” Cambra said. “She was not located.”

Sheriff’s Station officials then requested the Search and Rescue Team, and also called for the assistance of K-9 units and aerial support.

“At this time, a large-area search is being conducted in Newhall,” Cambra said, adding the girl was wearing a Sesame Street diaper and a blue-and-pink beanie when she was taken.

Sheriff’s Station officials said the focus for the moment was on finding the baby, and would not comment on whether it was an abduction investigation or the nature of the child’s disappearance.

UPDATE I: Sheriff’s deputies announced they arrested the father, Matthew Warner.

According to reports, Warner led police to the baby’s body, which was found in a car parked in a park-and-ride lot.”

Later, sheriff’s deputies announced they arrested the father, Matthew Warner, at an 11 a.m. press conference Saturday morning.

The mother was not arrested but was being held at the station, officials said. She was described as being distraught.
