This is startling …
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney refused to answer the press corps question regarding what the Obama Administration considered the capital of Israel, Tel Aviv or Jerusalem? Stunning, simply stunning that Carney could not provide an answer other than out position has not changed. When confronted with what the position was, he responded, you know what our position is. Some angered members of the press shouted back, if we knew, we wouldn’t be asking the question. The back and forth diatribe between Carney and the press can be seen HERE.
Carney would not say whether President Obama believe it’s Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. For nearly a minute, in response to repeated questioning, Carney only says that “our position hasn’t changed” and that he hasn’t gotten that question in a while.
How is it that the press secretary of the most knowledgeable President of Judaism not know the capital of Israel? More to the point, why is is he unwilling to say it? What would one expect from the Obama Administration that has been so cold to Israel?
As Powerline stated, the capital question of Israel may not have been his most difficult of the day. He twisted and turned trying to answer with a non-answer.
House was involved in the torrent of leaks of classified information obviously emanating in part from high administration officials.

Could it be that the White House Press Secretary’s refusal to provide a simple answer to a simple question is all about Muslim Brotherhood appeasement by the Obama administration? Could it be that the writing is on the wall under an Obama administration in regards to Israel’s capital city … Israel’s God-given land.
Think about it. Would Mohammed Morsi congratulate Mitt Romney if he should emerge the victor in November? Why would Obama congratulate Morsi when the Brotherhood’s statement of faith calls for the eventual destruction of not only Israel but the United States of America?

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama asssured American Jews that he would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear arms, and that Jerusalem would remain the undivided capital of Israel, a surprisingly tough stance.
“Let me be clear, Israel’s security is sacrosanct. It is non-negotiable. The Palestinians need a state that is contiguous and cohesive, and that allows them to prosper,” Obama said. “But any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.”

Mitt Romney’s campaign circulated a statement from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on Friday slamming the White House over Press Secretary Jay Carney’s answers to questions about Jerusalem at Thursday’s press briefing
In the transcript of the briefing later circulated to reporters, the White House included an addendum outlining the official policy.
“The status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in final status negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians,” the statement said. “We continue to work with the parties to resolve this issue and others in a way that is just and fair, and respects the rights and aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians.”
Cantor mocked Carney’s evasiveness in the statement circulated by the Romney campaign.
“For thousands of years, Jerusalem has been the eternal capital of the Jewish people, but this administration refuses to say if Jerusalem is the true capital,” Cantor said. “At a moment when Israel is facing so many perils, the United States should be standing by our ally, not quibbling or quarreling about its capital city.”
That’s prompted speculation that Romney could call for the United States to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital during his visit to over the weekend — something the candidate has not yet done. During the primaries, Romney was criticized by Rick Santorum and Ron Paul for not explicitly calling the city Israel’s capital.
The Romney campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
