Yet Another Tax? Taxing Americans Based on How Many Miles They Drive To Raise New Revenues for Govt

UNBELIEVABLE … THE ANSWER IS NOT TO RAISE TAXES … IT IS TO CUT SPENDING AND NOW!!!

Now the government wants to track the number of miles you drive. Are you serious, as reported at The Hill, the CBO has released a report that states that they have come up with a possible option for taxing Americans even more that they already are. This time its to tax the amount of miles that people drive to gain revenues for highway projects. Does anyone really believe that these tax $’s would only go to highway maintenance? So now they are proposing a tax that would restrict travel in a car?

Wasn’t gas taxes supposed to do this? So now the govt does not want to tax those evil people who drive gas guzzeling vehicles, they plan on  doing the same with those who drive hybrids or electric cars that do not pay gas taxes. I guess turn about whould be fair play, why should they get special treatment, are they not causing wear and tear on the roads?  I would be hesitant to allow any of this as it is yet another example of an already over-reaching government. Anything other than that would be an unfair double taxation on Americans just trying to drive to work. That’s it politicians, tax the working people who actually are lucky enough these days to have a job.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) this week released a report that said taxing people based on how many miles they drive is a possible option for raising new revenues and that these taxes could be used to offset the costs of highway maintenance at a time when federal funds are short.

The report discussed the proposal in great detail, including the development of technology that would allow total vehicle miles traveled (VMT) to be tracked, reported and taxed, as well as the pros and cons of mandating the installation of this technology in all vehicles.

So now the Government is going to install devices vehicles to track your mileage. What else will it track? Could we possible have a more intrusive government.

On how to implement the idea, CBO said it is unclear how much it would cost to “install metering equipment in all of the nation’s cars and trucks.”

“Having the devices installed as original equipment under a mandate to vehicle manufacturers would be relatively inexpensive but could lead to a long transition; requiring vehicles to be retrofitted with the devices could be faster but much more costly, and the equipment could be more susceptible to tampering than factory-installed equipment might be,” CBO said.

So much for the US Constitution. These people will tax your dreams to if you let them. A note to this government and that mean all parties … STOP TAXING AND START CUTTING SPENDING AND WE MEAN NOW OR YOU WILL ALL BE THROWN OUT OF OFFICE. AMERICA IS FED UP!

Taxing Americans who just want to take a Sunday drive with the family,

obama can’t create even manual labor jobs and now when we are hurting financially, the idiot wants to tax those who have to drive to be able to work and live ?
it’s obvious that he intends to see America wasted and broken.

      Washington politicians are getting desperate.

Federal gasoline taxes were supposed to go for maintenance and some new construction of the federal highway system.

Of course, we all know that if you give politicians money for one purpose, they soon find ways to steal it and move it to something they want rather than a highway.

      2,

Umm, this article is not about Obama, or any government policy, or any government legislation.

#4 Seriously? WOW! Clueless to say the least.

      5,

No matter what you say, it is impossible to find Obama as a factor in this “taxing based on driving” story. IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

I await your apology, as there is no proof to be found.

Steve get over yourself. An apology to who?

Who is to say that Obama would not be for a tax on driving? He is for a tax on everything else. Lets see what he does.

#8 Stop being a putz, is that all you got today? Name a tax that Obama has not been for? Oh, except the ending the tax on the rich that he buckled under.

      Lame indeed.

      sm(9),

Couldn’t see the humor in my using that duplicate repost? LOL

Staying on topic, I was originally commenting on the idea of a miles driven tax. This was your topic, not mine. Nowhere in the story, or the links, was there ever a mention of Obama. This is a simple fact. People are free to gripe all they want, but they can’t make-up their own facts (that is, if they even decide to comment on the story, or my specific posts). BTW, this so-called “tax” is, as I accurately pointed out, not part of any legislation, or proposed legislation. More facts.

If people could stop taking their bitter pills, they might be able to speak without simply spewing hate and anger. After all, if that is what they want to do, a blank article would be enough background for them to post responses.

I am confident that there is no possibility that anyone can prove my original post(4) is inaccurate, incorrect, or false. Hence, my “request” for an apology, for using “clueless” in a reply to me. :-)

SM: An apology dude, let me state this one more time to you and it will be the last. This is not your site. You are in no position to request anything from anyone, namely me. You best get that point and real quick.

Go do your own site and you can ask for all the apologies you want, until then, put a sock in it.

    11. Steve on March 26th, 2011 8:30 pm

I was responding to comment 5. Seriously, until the SM comment on number 7, and my direct reply, there was nothing about this site.

If you are trying to say I can’t mention “apology” to another poster, then something is messed up.

      Bye Bye loser lib….

This TAX is directly a liberal policy and since Obama is so out in left field he’s not even in the game; ties directly to his liberal policies.

      Pretty simple libtard!
