Pakistani-American Raid Captures Taliban’s Top Commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar

Chalk one up for the forces against evil.  Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s top military commander has been captured in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani. According to reports, Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody with American and Pakistani intelligence officials taking part in interrogations.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Interrogated, what no Miranda rights and an attorney provided? Flopping Aces has the contrasting differences as to how the LEFT and RIGHT perceive this victory in the war on terror and how to proceed. Michelle Malkin asks the question that we all would like to know regarding this big fish capture … “What would Eric Holder say?”

I do have to chuckle about the following comment from the NY Times article regarding printing potentially sensitive information. Because they always followed this policy when George W. Bush was in office, didn’t they?

The Times is publishing the news now because White House officials acknowledged that the capture of Mullah Baradar was becoming widely known in the region.

Several American government officials gave details about the raid on the condition that they not be named, because the operation was classified.

I think it is important to note that Pakistan participated in this capture and is openly saying so. Congrats all the way around on the capture.

Washington Senate Election 2010: Patty Murray (D) Trails Dino Rossi (R) 46% to 48% … Will Rossi Run is the Question

Is it possible that Democrats could lose the Senate seat in Washington State too? In the most recent Rasmussen poll, incumbent Patty Murray trails Republican challenger Dino Rossi by 2% points, 46% to 48%.

However, so far Rossi claims that he is not interested in running. With all of the action going on in the Senate and the potential Republican take over, it would be a shame if Rossi do not compete. If he does not, Murray has a double digit lead over the rest of the other GOP challengers and will certainly retain the seat.

The potential vulnerability is highlighted when Murray is matched against Dino Rossi, the unsuccessful GOP candidate in the state’s last two gubernatorial contests. Certainly the best-known of the Republicans, Rossi attracts 48% of the vote in a match-up with Murray while the incumbent earns 46%. One percent (1%) like another candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

But Rossi, despite encouragement from many Republicans, says so far that he’s not interested in running for the Senate.

Evan Bayh says Bye, Bye to US Senate … Will Not Seek Reelection in 2010

Stunning news from Indiana … Evan Bayh will not seek reelection to the US Senate from Indiana in the 2010 midterms. The news comes as a tremendous blow to Democrats that are already facing severe losses in the midterms. No one saw this one coming and is a crushing blow to Reid and Democrats.

Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh will not seek re-election this year, he announce Monday, a decision that hands Republicans a prime pickup opportunity in the middle of the country.

“After all these years, my passion for service to my fellow citizens is undiminished, but my desire to do so by serving in Congress has waned,” Bayh said at a press conference in Indianapolis.

Bayh cited the lack of bipartisan comity as one of the main reasons for the decision. “There is too much partisanship and not enough progress — too much narrow ideology and not enough practical problem-solving,” he said. “Even at a time of enormous challenge, the peoples’ business is not being done.” He specifically cited the recent vote that killed the creation of a debt commission as evidence of the partisan gridlock.

Gee Senator Bayh, you might want to look in the mirror and take a good look at your accusations of the Senates lack of bipartisan politics, too much partisanship, not enough progress and too much narrow ideology. You might just be talking about your self and not the false moderate that you claimed to be. Partisan ideology?
