Barack Obama and the Democratic Keystone Cops House & Senate … Government Suspends Cash for Clunkers as it Runs Out of Money

Cash for Clunkers program hits a bump in the road and runs out of gas as government puts the breaks on program.

What a shock, the government does not know how to run, plan or budget for a program. These are the same people that you would dare trust with your health care? WAKE UP!!!

Clunker2

The Cash for Clunkers plan runs out of money, program suspended after 7 days. 7 DAYS!!!

Can these people do anything right? I can hear VP Joe Biden already saying on the Sunday Talk Shows with regards to the “Cash for Clunkers” program … “We misread how bad the American people wanted to trade in their clunkers for cash. Of course, remember that this is George W. Bush’s fault because these cars were bought during his and his dad’s administration. We inherited these clunkers.”

Can this Democratic White House, Senate and House do anything right? They have managed to screw up a $1 billion program and some how anyone thinks they should be provided any public plan for health care? As reported at USA Today, FIASCO: Suspension of ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program couldn’t come at a worse time. From Michelle Malkin, Cash for clunkers junked…but dealer ads still running, OOPS!

Automakers have ordered millions of dollars in television ads. Dealers had the hot dogs, balloons and full-page Sunday ads in the newspapers ready to pounce on sales opportunities. And it is all in vain: the “Cash for Clunkers” program is on hold.

The Jawa Report simple puts it, Well, Duh. Also provides a great sign that says it all for the Democratically controlled White House, Senate and House. How many thinks must occur for all Americans to wake up and smell the coffee that these people are abject failures?

Fail

These people can’t properly run “Cash for Clunkers” yet they are going to run GM? That’s priceless. The government cannot properly calculate a budget for the “Cash for Clunkers” program and these are the same people who want to nationalize health care. This program was supposed to run until October; however, after 7 short days they went bust. As Hot Air states, that is some miscalculation.

The White House said Thursday it was reviewing what has turned out to be a wildly popular “cash for clunkers” program amid concerns the $1 billion budget for rebates for new auto purchases may have been exhausted in only a week.

Transportation Department officials called lawmakers’ offices earlier Thursday to alert them of plans to suspend the program as early as Friday. But a White House official said later the program had not been suspended and officials there were assessing their options.

I guess the question is, how could politicians have misread the signs that people would trade cars in for easy cash? The fact that the program ran out of funds 7 days in is just yet another example how the government can get nothing right. When they do, its pure luck. It’s the only stimulus plan that the Democrats actually got right, yet they managed to screw it up and under fund it. What a joke.

UPDATE I: “If they can’t administer a program like this, I’d be a little concerned about my health insurance?”

UPDATE II: House Approves $2 Billion extra Funding to Keep Program Running.

The House approved a bill Friday afternoon to provide $2 billion to continue the federal government’s week-old “cash for clunkers” program, which has proven so popular with consumers that it was almost out of cash. The vote was 316 to 109.

Officials are reportedly working to keep the government’s popular “cash for clunkers” program going amid reports its success may have caused it to run out of money within a week. Doesn’t the success of this one program make everyone sit back and scratch their heads as to why none of Obama’s any other “stimulus” programs operate in the same immediate manner?

More Cash for Clunkers

With another $2 billion infused in the program, we can expect it to be broke again in another 20 days.

Congress moved Friday to inject fresh funds into the wildly popular “cash for clunkers” program after it nearly ran out of money, threatening to become a symbol of government bungling.

The House approved moving $2 billion from a program that backs loans to renewable-energy companies into the car-repurchase program, which apparently burned through its allotted $1 billion in just a week. The move came just before one of the biggest car-sales weekends of the summer.

However, John McCain Threatens to Filibuster Cash for Clunkers

Maverick Senator John McCain to oppose and provide a road block to the Cash for Clunkers additional $2 billion.

He noted earlier today, “I not only wouldn’t vote for the extra two billion, I was opposed to the initial billion… We’re now again bailing out the automobile corporations, two of which we own.”

Critics blast the “Cash for Clunkers” extra $2 billion without knowing all the facts. What a shock, a knew jerk government reaction with no information.

Even as House lawmakers are celebrating their remarkably swift move to infuse the popular cash for clunkers program with additional funds, some lawmakers and environmentalists are warning that extending the program is premature without knowing what it even does.

Maybe the government can first start out and see if they can run a roadside Lemonade stand first?

They cannot administrate properly a $1 billion cash for clunkers program, how in the hell are they going to admin a national health care plan?

The real reason the government suspended ‘cash for clunkers.’ I’ve spoken with several dealers concerning the cash for clunkers program and this video sums up the “cash for clunkers” suspension in great detail. Watch: http://tinyurl.com/ml9sdo

#1 How was the concept a great one? Why on earth should I have to buy someone else’s car, clunker or not?

So the car industry got a few dollars. Wouldn’t the economy have the same result if the food industry got the money? Or if unemployed people got the money? Or if, horrors, the people who paid the taxes got the money?

It is not stimulus when Congress takes my money and gives it to someone else, factored through a dysfunctional administrative bureaucracy that skims ghod-noze-wot portion off the top.

Please stop calling it a stimulus program. It is robbing Peter to pay half to Paul while the bloated govt middleman pockets whatever he pleases.

In the administration’s defense, they underestimated the number of people who still have a job and could still get credit!

The House is pushing for $2 billion to fund this stinking, stalled program today. You have got to be kidding me, aren’t there better ways to use this money.

      Greetings:

At the risk of being contentious, I don’t think that this program is such a great idea. When I think about the economics of it, things just don’t add up. Our government is incurring more debt to fund what is basically an income transfer to people who probably don’t really need it under the guise of improving an environment to some miniscule degree. Without any income qualification for beneficiaries and such minimal technological improvement requirements, I think we’d be better off buying some more F-22 jets.

I’m adding “Honk if I’m paying for your new car” to my “Honk if I’m paying your mortgage” sign.

    10. ANewGirl on July 31st, 2009 1:02 pm

Ok, so what didn’t I understand about the concept? Plain & simple- thought it was the Gov’t (thru Ford,GM, whatever) offering a cash incentive ($4500?) towards a new vehicle when you get rid of an old clunker you have lying around…towards the purchase of something more fuel efficient or a hybrid specifically? I didn’t spend hours of research on it- that’s what’s been being advertised.

No matter- OUT OF FUNDS means I think the point of the article is well taken that if the present day Administration can’t even get a program like this off the ground successfully—how in the World are they going to undermine the crucial things with any measure of success.

My boat has the old 2 stroke motor that uses more gas than the new 4 strokes.

Where do I sign up for my new boat?

I’d like to know how many people have participated in this program before they put the breaks on . I bet they were all buying foreign cars, because there cheaper. I see a lot of Kia’s and Hyundai’s on the road.

Some of the ladies in the South have taken in their husbands, but that didn’t fly, there needs to be more paperwork to understand what is happening.

Economists are starting to say that the economy has “turned the corner”. That the recession is coming to an end. That the worst is over. We are not turning the corner. We are headed in the wrong direction

This is the worst thing that could happen! If we can’t show that Obama has failed, it means that everything he has done..from massive government spending, to bank bailouts, to “Cash for Clunkers” is working. This will be used against fiscal conservatives for years to come as proof that government intervention CAN sometimes work.
We cannot allow this to happen.
It’s important that all who believe in free markets keep up the talk that the “economy is getting worse.”
Keep praying that the unemployment rate keeps getting worse. Keep hoping that GM falls flat on it’s face and goes completely out of business. Keep your fingers crossed that the stock market starts to head south again,. We must keep focusing on the failures, rather than the successes.
If people start spending money…that might jumpstart the economy and put America back on the road to recovery.
We cannot allow that to happen!!!

We must Keep talking gloom and doom!!
      Our conservative theology demands it

SM: However, 100% of the time there is the law of govt unintended consequences when it comes to meddling in things they have no business. What happens to the used car market for cars that a certain segment of the population can afford? What happens to charities that deal with the hungry and homeless when no one gives them to a charity but instead to the cash for clunkers program?

Let alone the fact that tax payers should never be responsible for having to subsidize some one’s car. What next their boat? Their camper? Their RV?
