Is the Air Force One Flight over Manhattan Controversy Over for Obama … May Be Not … Where’s the Manifest?

Things that make you go hmm …

Does the picture of Air Force One flying low over the Statue of Liberty really look like a $328,835 photo? With the resignation of Louis Caldera, Barack Obama’s former director of the White House Military Office, many thought this controversy was over … but is it?

Ann Althouse brings up some interesting speculation as to other reasons why the flyover was done. As she states, “but look at the picture. Why would people going to all this trouble and expense to get a photograph that looked so awful?” Many people have asked that very same question. Why would a photo be taken from the cockpit of a fighter plane? One would think that a fighter would be equipped with a reconnaissance camera. After all, isn’t that what they did in the movie, Behind Enemy Lines? Heck, Scared Monkeys has dealt with search teams that use unmanned drones that do recon pics for search areas for missing persons where the quality looked better than this photo.

So Ann asks the next most obvious question, “Maybe the pilot took a photograph, but that can’t have been the purpose of the flight. So JAL has the right question: Who was in Air Force 1?” I idea is that since the photo was so bad at such a cost, maybe there was an alternative motive as to why Air Force One was there is the first place. Since the official review of the fiasco, seen HERE, created more questions than answered … It’s time to release the manifest.

As Moe Lane states, you know that really is a lousy picture for the price tag.  Here is the picture from the official White House site. From Protein Wisdom, of course the picture is crappy, New Jersey is visible, and we’re ready to cough just from looking at the air pollution evident in that photo. That’s funnier than 95% of the jokes from the White House Correspondence dinner over the weekend.

We had speculated from the outset of this flyover fiasco that how could such a ridiculous and beyond stupid premise of a 747 plane be allowed to fly over Manhattan followed by a fighter plane. How could any thinking adult not stand up and put an end to this as fast as the idea came off someone’s lips? Any thinking person had to know that it was a terrible idea and would cause chaos in the streets of NY. All this for a photo-op and a poor one at that. There are only two possibilities. Either all involved in the fiasco are incompetent or there was another reason why this stunt took place.

The grassy knoll has now met Air Force One and the flyover fiasco can do nothing but make you sit back and make you go hmm.

Amateur Hour in the Office of the President. Barry should
have known the whereabouts of AF1 at all times even if
he actually did not. It has a bit to do with his security, no?
Good help is hard to find these days. His hiring practices
(cabinet posts, etc.) leave reasonable folks scratching their
heads. Too many Clinton Era retreads are spoiling the broth.

Have we considered dredging around in the Prisons, like
      ACORN supposedly has?

Were the Chinese on Air Force One? Looking over their new holdings?

Maybe George Soros was looking over his holdings?

      Tough to know.

      opinions and questions only.

      indeed, crappy photo.

The whole the reason behind the scare over does not make sense. Maybe Obama’s kids got a joy ride?

That is one sucky-azz pic. Did the F-16 pilot use his cell phone like they just thought of the photo shoot cover story on the spot?

    11. Miss-Underestimated on May 11th, 2009 9:23 am

I think the bail out money will pale in comparision to the money Barack will spend on the “good life” at the White House.

    12. on May 11th, 2009 9:39 am

Think of it, the picture released shows AirForce One towering over the Nation’s symbol for Freedom – the Statute of Liberty. Very appropriate for this administration.

Next question: How do you scramble an F-16 without the President of the USA knowing?

    13. Michelle Smith on May 11th, 2009 10:18 am

He knew. You can’t tell me that the POTUS did not know that Air Force One was doing a flyover followed by an F-16 Fighter Jet (regardless of what reasoning they want to come up with) That is unacceptable. Either he does not have a clue what is going on in his administration or he’s an arrogant cuss and doesn’t care what the people think. Inexperience or arrogance?

There’s nothing funny about wishing kidney failure on anyone. There’s also nothing humorous about using your children to diminish or cover your own mistakes or foolish behavior.

    16. A Texas Grandfather on May 11th, 2009 11:28 am

This is just more “Barry Sotoro” little boy antics. When you have a person in power that has never lived a real life, this is what you get.

The manifest for those on the flight needs to be made public. How about some transparency here.

    17. kitty on May 11th, 2009 3:22 pm

Maybe Biden went up for a joy flight, while the White House was being quarantined for swine flu

    18. wg on May 11th, 2009 5:14 pm

Maybe it’s my ignorance of the Big Apple. Where is the marine traffic?

I remember the plane that landed in the Hudson. Seemed like there was lots of marine traffic.

Wasn’t it a nice day? Is the harbor normally so empty? No sail boats? Smaller vessels? Any marine traffic?

    19. HOPE on May 11th, 2009 5:16 pm

Personally, I’m glad we have youth in the White House. It’s a refreshment after the Old Cronies who have been running this country with their brain-washed sons bringing up the rear. There’s more to life than oil and the auto industry. Time to think all things are possible, just like we did when we were young. Can they change the world? I hope so.

    20. on May 11th, 2009 7:42 pm

oh my Hope, that sounds really childish. You like having a commander in chief that doesn’t know better than to send Air Force One out for a $400,000 joy ride that scares thousands of Americans?

Yes, all things are possible when you are borrowing $.50 of every dollar you spend – but not for the country doing it.

Breaking the law of secured creditors to pay off your cronies is very immature too – along with illegal. Paying people off with TARP (read US Taxpayers’) dollars so they will not fuss when you break the law is also what you get from this youngster.

Change the world? Yeah, when the US collapses upon itself, that will indeed change the world – not for the better mind you, but it will indeed change it.

Are you looking forward to that $60 billion in new taxes? Oh, that’s right, you don’t pay taxes.

    21. Michelle Smith on May 11th, 2009 8:28 pm

Oh My! Hope is delusional again. She thinks that inexperience is the answer to this countries problems. She wants young & dumb over old & experience. Maybe the WH will have another puppet show on Wed. and they can invite Sandra Bernhardt to perform, we all know how classy she is now don’t we. Maybe this time she can cuss out Sarah Palin or find something really raunchy to stir the pot for the libs.

I can’t wait to see what these clowns have on the agenda this week.

Hurry Hope and get to D.C. we wouldn’t want you to miss finger painting.

    22. HOPE on May 11th, 2009 10:37 pm

I’ve paid my share plus some. My brother died for this country and my father served in WWII…. besides, I don’t give up very easily, or give in to thinking we’re doomed. Where there is life, there is hope.

No sense ragging on and on about what Bush did to his fellow countrymen. He knows, and we know… that’s all that’s important. Besides, we’ve had adjustments, bail-outs and recessions before. It’s not over ’til it’s over!

Face it! Sooner or later you’re going to have to turn this country over to the next generation. If they have half the gusto we had, their future will be bright. I don’t take any credit from the man who campaigned for the presidency and won. The people have made their choice…

      Power to the People!

BTW: I’ve never cussed out Sara Palin and have nothing against her. I don’t trust her with the pristine state of Alaska, but that’s my personal opinion… and I’m entitled to it!

    23. Scott on May 12th, 2009 7:28 am

LOL..what Bush did to his fellow countrymen…Yeah, he kept us safe for almost 8 years from another terrorist attack…remember planned for under Clinton…

Obama is making his fellow countrymen unsafe going back to pre 9/11 national security policies…kissing up, sucking up, blowing our enemies.

Yeah, the next generation, the generation of NO SELF RESPONSIBILITY! My kids, that generation after the next, will be broke and poor due to Obama’s policies. The American dream, the mechanism of capitalism, is for your children to have more than you have; sadly that wont be the case for my toddlers.

    24. What the? on May 12th, 2009 7:37 am

      Come on 2012….Obama OUT

Kennedy’s are linked to all of the oil…Do your research people. Now Kennedy has a puppet in the Whitehouse….Why do you think Obama visited Chavez….JOE FOR OIL…Obama for Oil….

    27. What the? on May 12th, 2009 7:42 am

Just shows Obama Mocking once again, Just like his anti american wife Michelle…

    28. Rusty Bridges on May 12th, 2009 8:10 am

#19, Hope, once again wtf are you talking about? More to life than the auto industry? Your “youth” in the white house is the one trying to keep that dead horse propped up so what is your point?

    29. Dolf on May 12th, 2009 9:11 am

scott, that American dream only aplied when you have enough cash in your bank

and you think its bad to first show a friendly face?
dumb of me, could have told looking at your swearing

    30. Dolf on May 12th, 2009 9:23 am

btw. NYC authorities knew about this.

    31. Scott on May 12th, 2009 11:59 am

BTW…that is what the WH is claiming that NYC authorities knew about it. They needed a scape-goat. No way the mayor wouldn’t have known about it. Stop listening to CNN.

WTF do you know about the American dream? Seriously, WTF do you know about it? NOTHING! Dreaming has nothing to do with money. JFC, why don’t you stay out of US affairs because you have no authority to speak on the subject of the American dream and what this country was FOUNDED on! The American dream has to do with your children having more than you as parents. My grandparents had more than their parents (immigrants); my parents had more than their parents; i’ve got more than my parents had at this age…and so it goes…

BTW, show a friendly-face to the slain police officer’s widow fund that Obama slashed by $40M; not our enemies; not those who fly in the face of our values and belief systems; not those who wanted us dead long before GWB came into office, not to those who wanted to chop our heads off long before GWB came into office.

Thanks to Obama there will no money AT ALL in my children’s bank.

    32. Michael P on May 12th, 2009 9:51 pm

Air Force One flying above Manhattan unannounced? This has got to be one of the strangest occurrences to date – considering that A) our current administration is tightening service expenditures within various governmental departments – yet no one within the White House PR staff reminded the White House photographer that we live in the age of computer photo graphic technology – and the so-called “photo op” idea could be achieved with far better results using stock photos of “AF One” with CGI technology plus added effects – thereby saving taxpayers the over $350K flight operational expenses of flying Air Force One and B) President Obama was not informed about the Manhattan fly-over?
      Very S-t-r-a-n-g-e…

    33. Dolf on May 13th, 2009 3:33 pm

they don’t just fly planes over cities

    34. Rich Tillotson on February 1st, 2010 10:48 pm

I have often wondered if the reason for the secrecy concerning the manifest, could be that Obama’s friends, the Muslims may have been aboard. He may have given them the opportunity to view ground zero.
The privilege that was denied them by President Bush.
