Fear Mongering VP Joe Biden & Swine Flu … Tells Family: “Stay Off Planes & Subways” … Open Mouth, Insert Swine

Biden_gaffe_meter

Biden would avoid subways, planes after swine flu outbreak. Barack Obama is kind of wishing Biden would avoid The White House. It was only a matter of time before Joe “Gaffe” Biden stuck his foot in his mouth.

Fresh out of the Obama witness protection program … Vice President Joe Biden causes quite a panic as he tell his family members not to use subways  or taking commercial flights in the U.S. and implied schools should be shuttered as the swine flu outbreak spread to 16 states. This week it is the VP’s turn to misspeak.

The uproar began when Biden appeared on NBC’s “Today” show and said he would advise against riding the subway or taking commercial flights and implied schools should be shuttered amid confirmation of the first swine-flu relation death in the U.S.

“I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now,” Biden said when Matt Lauer asked whether he would advise family members to use public transportation.

“I would tell members of my family, and I have, I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now. It’s not that it’s going to Mexico, it’s you’re in a confined aircraft when one person sneezes it goes all the way through the aircraft. That’s me. I would not be, at this point, if they had another way of transportation suggesting they ride the subway. ”

The vice president also implied that schools should be closed as the threat of swine flu increases.

Then after the chaos started over Biden’s ill-timed comment … the retraction was made. Why is it that the WH clarification is paragraphs longer than the actual statement?

About two hours after the interview, Biden’s office issued a statement attempting to clarify the vice president’s remarks.

“The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving all Americans: That they should avoid unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways. This is the advice the vice president has given family members who are traveling by commercial airline this week,” Biden’s spokeswoman, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement.

Nice spin try on the part of the WH; however, The Gateway Pundit has it right:

Of course, this is not true.
Biden was not talking about sick family members. He was talking about healthy family members using public transportation.
It was a nice try though.

Vice President Joe Biden’s Remarks on Swine Flu Draw Criticism

Even Democrats were a bit annoyed over the Biden gaffe.

Democrats hustled to temper Vice President Joe Biden’s comments today that he would advise his family to avoid flying or being in confined spaces because of concerns about swine flu, a comment that drew criticism from the travel industry.

UPDATE I: Joe Biden, Isn’t a train elf enclosed transportation?

After VP Biden caused and uproar and advised against riding the subway or taking commercial flights during the “Swine flu” outbreaks … Joe Biden takes the train home.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano commented, “If he could say that over again, he would say if they’re feeling sick, they should stay off of public transit or confined spaces.”

By Friday night, Biden seemed ready for his own do-over. A longtime rider of Amtrak, he took a train from Union Station to his Delaware home, his office said.

What Biden said about planes subways and other public places as well as enclosed.Only a fool would do other wise.why would you risk your family health as well as your own?
      _______________
SM: Sorry Jack but Democrats do not get a free pass on hysteria and fear mongering. Even fellow Dems were upset with Biden’s comments.

It’s all in the delivery. Welcome to the adult world of being the President & VP of the United States where one’s words have consequences.

If things were as bad as Biden made it to be one might ask the question why we have not closed borders and stopped international plane fights or at the very least checked incoming arrivals for SWINE FLU.

Once again BIDEN spoke off the cuff and away from the Obama talking point.

Back into hiding for Joe Biden.

The U.S. Department of State has issued the following Travel Alert:

“The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens of the health risks of travel to Mexico at this time due to an outbreak of H1N1 “swine flu.” The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued an April 27 notice recommending that American citizens avoid all nonessential travel to Mexico at this time. CDC’s notice also suggests precautions that travelers and U.S. citizen residents in Mexico can take to reduce their risk of infection while in Mexico. CDC provides recommendations for those who must travel to an area that has reported cases of swine flu, and recommends measures to take following return from an area that has reported cases of swine flu. The complete CDC notice can be found at the following link: http://www.cdc.gov/travel/. Please check this site frequently for updates…”

As a result of this advisory and in an abundance of caution, major cruise lines that we represent have stopped calling on ports in Mexico and have developed–or are developing–positions with regard to future calls at ports in Mexico, while the outbreak lasts. We have been waiting for these official statements and I wanted to get them to you as quickly as they were available–hence the second newsletter this week. To see these cruise line announcements now, please click http://www.vacationstogo.com/swine_flu.cfm.

I have to agree with Jack #1 here…Biden said what he felt and I feel as well. If the Pres doesn’t want him talking, he needs a job in a bunker somewhere.

Blame the media, not the Vice President. They blew this out of proportion way before he said anything. But not on this website, they would rather attack anything white house now that Obama is President.

    5. Scared Monkeys on May 1st, 2009 8:18 am

Oh suddenly everyone thinks that you can blurt out anything when there is a problem.

Funny people did not take that approach with GWB ,,, oh that was fear mongering. Thank you all for proving the double standard.

Obviously the WH and Obama had an issue with what BIDEN said ,,, otherwise there would not have been a retraction and thought BIDEN misspoke.

That B coming from the WH, not SM.

So for the haters, we are actually agreeing with Barry O on this one.

You do not get to say what you are thinking when you are a VP or Prez. At least when it is done, one must at least think of the consequences.

That would be the responsible and adult thing to do.

When a movie theater is on FIRE, you don’t hell FIRE!!!

You calmly deal with the situation at hand and get the people out of harms way. What a novel concept.

No 3 The Pres is a chicken. He should close the borders also.I stand by my answer Biden just gave out good advice.Obama should agree with him and close the borders untill Swine flu is no more.

it’s funny that the left handers have to go behind biden’s back to try to change every thing he says.
and he is the next in line behind barry !
got an e-mail yesterday that says in effect, that by june 30th all ammunition has to be coded before selling. all stored “uncoded” ammunition will have to be destroyed.
this is so barry can tell how much ammo you buy and what caliber.
barry won’t have to take our guns, he will just take the ammo. here goes our second amendment rights.
get to your NRA group and fight this tooth and nail. barry will render the public defenseless then make his move.
a president who disarms the citizens is a scared president.

    8. St Stephen on May 1st, 2009 9:19 am

Whatever your convoluted reasoning may be for criticizing Vice President Biden’s remarks, the fact is that the VP was giving solid and good advice for us, much more than the transparent responses of President Obama and DHS Napolitano.

While we maintain a revolving open door border crossing with Mexico, Mexico City is shut down for the next 5 days. SHUT DOWN. All public events, all restaurants, all barber shops, all venues by order of the government shuttered. A literal ghost town of 20 million people.

What the Vice President said only echoed my general feelings based on common sense, for swine flu or ANY pandemic. I may not buy into this spiel personaly but that is no reason NOT to be vigilent or at least aware of the conditions that surround me.

I once heard that common sense was the LEAST COMMON OF ALL SENSE. Is that where people are when they buy the snake oil presented by the administration on this one?

I am asking the same questions that you asked Jack #1. Why aren’t we closing the borders when the Mexican government is closing the largest populated city in the Hemisphere?

Biden gets an A-, Obama and Napolitano gets a D+ on this one.

    9. yoyo muffintop on May 1st, 2009 9:33 am

#7 “barry will render the public defenseless then make his move.”

What “move” would that be Super Douche?

    10. BUN on May 1st, 2009 11:30 am

#6..once again agree with you…the border will never be closed because of political gain for Dems. They can send in all the scumbags with guns and we can’t and won’t stop them. The flu doesn’t seem a big deal compared to all the other stuff we are importing illegally from Mexico.

    11. SUPER DAVE on May 1st, 2009 2:19 pm

the same move he made on you demmies ho ! he knew you were too stupid to realize that you were getting screwed while you were getting screwed. only we know better and are quite a few steps ahead of your boy and you .
i like the new name you copied from your other boy jason.
you are always copying other people. i guess you would need a brain to come up with your own material.
you must be one from the NE states that vote democrat year after year even though you have the highest taxes, largest, most recent tax increases, highest unemployment rates and still vote democrat. in other words, you is ignorant boy.

    12. PlatinumSkye on May 1st, 2009 3:03 pm

For the record, I’m still counting up the total number of confirmed cases and some probable ones I can find information about and there are now 3 times more cases in Liberal/Democratic Counties then in Conservative/Republician Counties.

      (As Of Right Now)

      LIBERAL COUNTIES: 136 Cases = 1 Death
      CONSERVATIVE COUNTIES: 41 Cases

I may be off by a couple of numbers but this is what I’ve learned over the past few days.

      Quite ironic isn’t it.

    13. Jadey on May 1st, 2009 3:27 pm

      #9 yoyo muffintop?
      Your intelligence is so telling.
Here is an idea. Go have your mom make you a peanut butter sandwich and relax in front of Nickelodean. This blog is for the adults. Anyone name calling and especially with the ‘douche’ word is obviously lacking in smarts to carry on conversation that pertains to our government.

    14. Just Bearly on May 1st, 2009 4:14 pm

I think part of this flu story is being over reported and magnified in the news. I am just guessing here… but maybe part of this is a government conspiracy so Obama can get the ball rolling with his universal health care plan… I am waiting for this soon in the news… Free Flu shots for all the under and non insured.

    15. yoyo muffintop on May 1st, 2009 5:17 pm

So what’s the “move” super douche (fits you perfectly)?

#13 – yawn…..must be your first time reading or did I miss your comments chastising super douche et al’s previous 500+ illiterate childish comments?
Or maybe you’re super douche’s sidekick? All douchebags need one. Lol.

#13 – So when you called someone an “idiot” and referred to President Obama as “Obuma” on April 25th was that an example of being an adult and not name calling? Just curious.
Or was that just blathering and worthless douchebaggery by you?
      Nice try though. Lol.

Again, yoyo muffintop, your intelligence shows.
I stated name calling people on a blog is childish. Super Dave by far the worse.
By the way … Obuma is an idiot.
And by the way, now I know who you are trolling/hiding under. Pathetic! Grab ONE name and stick with it. Or does it get to hot for you when you are ‘put in your place?’
You will deny you have another name, but I bet scared monkeys has your IP and email address and is laughing their ass off at you for being a hider.
It’s saturday morning, go back to cartoons and your delusional state you live in with your welfare pathetic President you have set on a pedastel. Enjoy this term with him, but notice his popularity is declining.

    19. SteveDinMD on May 2nd, 2009 10:18 am

Even though Joe Biden is a bona fide MORON, I can find no fault in his latest commentary. In fact, it’s the smartest thing I can ever recall him having said in the past 20 years. His remarks might have been impolitic from the standpoint of the transportation and tourism industries, but they were right on the mark.

    20. ANewGirl on May 3rd, 2009 4:56 pm

#18-Jadey…lol—-so—-you’ve got YOYo’s number and you called him/her/whatever it is out on it.

Welcome to the Monkey Cage. For some reason, YoYo loves it here though since he/she whatever it is keeps coming back. Apparently, Mommy YoYo must have run out of Peanut Butter today and perhaps Nickolodeon is showing re-runs again?

      =D

    21. Michelle Smith on May 3rd, 2009 8:06 pm

Guys if you stop feeding the trolls maybe they will go away…lol

You know YoYo, Caseau and their aliases…We know they have aliases…There aren’t that many here that agree with them….Well maybe HOPE but she’s a whole other story.

They don’t have a clue and will continue to spout the same bull over & over because they can’t form a thought of their own and then they result to name-calling & insults to make themselves feel better about their pathetic lives. They are probably still waiting on that check.

#23 that shows what an a$$ you are. In Cheney’s heyday he would smash Biden.

Cheney is more intelligent than Biden too.

The fact that Biden and Specter are such great friends says a lot about the man, to hang with a Benedict Arnold!

BIDEN WILL NOT BE THE VP candidate when Obama runs for re-election…

Obama can not live with the sucking sound of Joe Biden. He’s an idiot of the nth degree!

and I am not saying that Biden or Cheney are smarter then 1 or the other

      Cheney is a dangerous guy.
or do you like the fact the he thought the law didn’t aply to him, because he was vp

or that the constitution didn’t really matter for the president, cause he is the president

    28. Scott on May 5th, 2009 1:35 pm

Typical ignorance on your part…typical left media type stuff about Bush and Cheney. What proof does anybody have that the law didn’t apply to him? What proof do you have the Bush didn’t follow the Constitution? You are such a moron its not even funny. Don’t you know what party stands for the CORE values of the Constitution? Clue: It’s not Obama’s party! Hey dipshit, the wiretaps which you call unconstitutional, but Obama is expanding were approved by Congress.

Like I said, my neighbor worked with Bush and Cheney in a very close DOCTORISH capacity and said BOTH of them were very nice and down to earth guys. He said Cheney is funny as hell and Bush treated the night janitor the same way he’d treat the prime minister of any country…with dignity and respect…
