Natalee Holloway: A Quick Update and Correction to Yesterday’s Texas Equusearch Story about Deep Water Search to Aruba

We posted yesterday regarding the story that TES was headed back to Aruba to continue the deep water search for Natalee Holloway in Aruba. I had an opportunity to talk with Tim Miller, founder of Texas Equuserach, regarding the potential events and some of the misconceptions from the NBC13 article. It would appear that there were some factually incorrect reports regarding the Natalee Holloway search. I must admit that when I first read the article, I was taken aback by some of the reports.

Like many in today’s economy, Tim Miller mentioned to me that TES has been hit by the downturn as well. They rely on donations and many people just do not have the money to give. The following is a note I received from TES as well that I would like to share with all that should help correct some of the reports that were made regarding TES and the Natalee Holloway search in Aruba.

Tim Miller of Texas EquuSearch is working hard to dispel media reports concerning the Natalee Holloway case.  Reports have surfaced today that Texas EquuSearch has collected $1.5 million to continue the search for Natalee, which is entirely untrue.

Also untrue is the report that Tim was traveling to Aruba with Fred Golba.  This has not been the first time that media has printed false reports regarding TES cases, to include the Caylee Anthony case.

“This is the worst year financially for Texas EquuSearch since it began.  We are struggling on a daily basis to try to meet the needs of families across the country that are begging for help.  In these tough economic times, this false, irresponsible reporting could have a very negative impact on our ability to raise funds which go to serve families of the missing” said Miller.  “When the public hear that we have raised that large amount of money to dedicate to one search, they are not going to be willing to donate to our cause of finding missing people.  We are at a point of not being able to support the families that really need us, and when something like this happens, it is just devastating”. “We would not even attempt to raise that amount of money for just one case with so many families awaiting our help.

The first quarter of the year is always difficult in financial terms.  With the current economic situation that everyone is facing, Texas EquuSearch is finding that people are having a harder time finding ways to donate to us.  So far, in 2009, we have had over 20 cases and have several searches pending better weather conditions.

Anyone wishing to donate to our organization can do so using the PayPal button located on the home page and at http://texasequusearch.org/make-a-donation/ .  We are a 501©3 charitable organization funded solely by donations and your donation is tax deductible, in accordance with IRS laws.

I found the story a bit odd myself, although it would be great if Tim and TES could afford to do so. Not to long ago, TES pulled out of the Haleigh Cummings search due to LACK of FUNDS :-(

Can we SUE the media for false reporting and getting our hopes up???

    5. dotratc on March 27th, 2009 1:31 pm

To the author of the above article; did you actually speak to Tim Miller or did you just read his comments off the TES website? I only ask because the exact same statements are posted there (and, when I say “exact,” I mean verbatim).

To #2 and #3, how is this Aruba’s fault? Aruban authorities are doing everything they can to facilitate Fred Golba, just like they did everything they could to facilitate Tim Miller and the crew of The Persistence a little over a year ago. So why the trashing of Aruba at this time?

Yo dotratc, #5, why trash the one dirty little rotten island? Because the so called police on that rock were involved in the cover up. From day one.

      Dotratc:

      Why is it Aruba’s fault?

Because they allow crime to be committed against people and do nothing about it… Again, if we want to know what’s wrong with Aruba, all we have to do is look at the actions of its’ Ministers.

I can appreciate that you love your culture and the island of your ancestors, but if someone doesn’t do something in behalf of your people and rid the government of its’ corruption and inability to prosecute people of the crimes they commit… things will only get worse.

Your people are already suffering. Drug lords and pimps run your island and their actions are ignored. The streets are full of the abused and addicted and nothing is done about the crimes committed against them… instead, they are called chollars and are further victimized by what is widely called sex tourism. The spread of AIDS is continuing to grow in that whole region of the world. Why? Because there is a price for a pound of flesh on the island of Aruba and the sacredness of all that is good is lost.

If you, really, cared about your people you would be doing something about it instead of wasting your time arguing with us. I have a question for you on the previous thread.

    9. buster on March 27th, 2009 3:33 pm

#5 did you read the article it clearly stated he did indeed talk to Tim Miller, I guess being from that $hit hole island you call aruba you are just as lame

    10. HOPE on March 27th, 2009 4:19 pm

On the previous thread, I posted an article that was originally written by Jossie and was reported on Scared Monkeys regarding the problem of digging up bones for the purpose of witchcraft and how Marguerita Weaver refers to a Malta Treaty as follows:

ORANJESTAD – Scientists of the Archeological Museum Aruba (MAA) concluded that the skeleton parts that tourists found near Boc’i BrikArchaeological (left of the small Natural Bridge near Puente) two months ago are the remains of one of the shipwrecked sailors of the German ship Hero that wrecked in 1886.

The museum says that this conclusion must clear up all speculations that went around after the bones were discovered. Thanks to good arrangements with the police, the archaeologists were there fast. Due to their forensic knowledge network, archaeologists are always called when bones are found in Aruba. They couldn’t beat the desecrators of graves though. The scull and jaw were missing and some of the bones were not right qua ‘anatomic context’. The archaeologists do not think that only nature was to be blamed for this. Despite the big cultural-historic value, it seems that people have opened the tomb.

It now appears that these people also knew that there were more persons on board of the Hero that were buried here after they were washed ashore. All the tombstones were removed and sold.

“Can you imagine how many people in Aruba have their own private archaeological collection”, says MAA-archaeologist Raymundo Dijkhoff that hates the fact that the authorities do not do anything against this. “Even though the Malta-treaty can offer protection, and that the Netherlands has ratified it, there is still no good legislation to act against these practices.”

Educational museum employee Marguerita Wever said that people do not always realize that they are damaging their cultural heritage. “They often leave initials behind or they use the old bones in voodoo rituals. The biggest chance on damage is when something is discovered on private territories, when a house is being built for example. A lot depends on the goodwill of the owners. The owner of the Natural Bridge and surroundings was involved in these sailor tombs.

      BOC’I BRIK

The name of the area where the bones were found, Boc’i Brik, was soon an indication of the origin. All the stories about the name turned out to have one thing in common: an extremely powerful hurricane on October 17th, 1886 that caused a ship of the type schooner-brik to wreck offshore; hence the name Boc’i Brik. There was just one survival, all the others drowned and washed ashore near Puente.

The research-team rediscovered the journal of a local official from that time, David C. Gaërste, which stated that the huge incident took place at the north-coast of this island, where the North-German Schooner brik Hero that left from Maracaibo with destination Europe, was totally lost. Only the steersman (…) was rescued.

The Malta Treaty is discussed here:

      # 5, to my dearest enemy, dotratc aka “dirty rat fink” -

I’ve always heard there’s no such thing as a “stupid question”, but you asked the STUPIDEST QUESTION I’ve ever heard when you asked “how is this Aruba’s fault”. You’ve gotta be kiddin’, right??? Please explain to me how this IS NOT Aruba’s fault!!

Please allow me to give YOU some damn good reasons why all of this is Aruba’s fault. For starters:

      1. ALE gave the perps 9 to 10 days to cover up their tracks.

      2. ALE allowed two innocent, black security guards to take a bum rap.

      3. ALE intentionally obstructed justice in every possible way to protect Urine and Paulass van der Slut and continue to do so to this very day.

      4. ALE destroyed all evidence of the crimes committed against Natalee Ann Holloway.

      5. ALE has lied time and time again in regards to everything under the sun concerning Natalee’s disappearance.

      6. ALE sent Natalee’s family and volunteer searchers on numerous wild goose chases.

      7. ALE has done NOTHING to help Natalee’s family!!

I could go on and on…

I find it laughable and highly improbable that ALE would SUDDENLY decide they want to help by draining the pond or doing anything to resolve Natalee’s disappearance. Hell, they could have done that almost four years ago!!

Things could have been made so much simpler for everyone if ALE would have DONE THE RIGHT thing, to begin with, by Natalee and her family!!

#13, I did not know that you made policy on this blog but, if it’s sources you want, sources you shall get. How about this quote from Fred Golba, published in Amigoe?

“According to Golba however he has the full cooperation and support from the authorities. The sleuth says that indeed he came to Aruba without following the ‘correct procedure’ and could have been “kicked out”. Nevertheless Hans Mos permitted the search ‘because he has a heart, he cares for the family, he cares for Dave Holloway’, thus Golba. Therefor he doesn’t want any negative publicity about Aruba and calls it ‘a splendid island with good people’. “Just because there are some rotten apples doesn’t mean the whole island is bad.” According to what he says, Golba declined an interview with Nancy Grace from CNN.”

      http://www.amigoe.com/artman/publish/artikel_54502.php

And, to #9, I saw that the article said that Red (or whomever) had spoken directly to Tim Miller. That’s why I asked the question, because the only quotes attributed to Tim where copied verbatim from the TES website.
      __________
SM: Tim Miller was spoken with directly. His comments were not quoted because thet were paraphrased. DUH!

      Very good, dotratc!

Now, please if you would, tell me what happens to the bones that are found and turned over to the authorities of Aruba? Every searcher, whether it be Tim Miller or any one else, works with local law enforcement. Upon finding something, it is their responsibility to turn the evidence over to them… so what does it mean when these items of ‘evidence’ of a crime disappears? Are we to believe in our heart of heart that it was Natalee or are we to believe that it is, just, one more corrupt enticement for the family to think their daughter is dead and to move on.

Personally, I’m tired of the collection of bones that Aruba seems to have coveted. Obviously, until they are the right bones and proven to be such, Natalee remains ‘missing’ or as her mother put it ‘kidnapped’. And, as for the practicing of magic… Aruba can chant to the wind all they want and dance in the smoke of their sacrifices til the very end. It is powerless and cowardly on their part to think, even for a moment, that the power of God lies in the dust of the earth. You are, merely, grasshoppers summoning the power of demons to perform your dirty deeds. But, even, they cower upon the mention of His name. I would venture to say the wrath of God is upon them.

      Again, I thank you.

    21. dotratc on March 28th, 2009 2:35 pm

#20, your second paragraph was a little hard to follow but, in answer to your question about what happens to the bones (or anything else of significance) that are found – they are left alone until ALE can retrieve them, just in case they are case related, so as to establish a chain of custody that will stand up in a court of law. In other words, you pretty well answered your own question.

As for what it means when these items disappear, I have to ask what are you getting at? A lot of items have been recovered; many of which were analyzed by the FBI lab in Quantico. So far, nothing case-related has been found. So I offer a third option (option one and two being your suggestions: “[a]re we to believe in our heart of heart that it was Natalee or are we to believe that it is, just, one more corrupt enticement for the family to think their daughter is dead and to move on.”) What we are to believe (because modern forensics have established as much) is that no case-related evidence has been found so far. We are also to believe that ALE remains committed to solving this case.

Items uncovered in Aruba pond as search continues for Holloway

(NECN/WGGB) – The search for a missing Alabama teen continues at the bottom of a pond in Aruba.

A Chicopee, Massachusetts based private investigator was hired to search there for the remains of Natalee Holloway.

As you may recall, she disappeared in 2005 during a senior class trip.

Fred Golba and his crew searched a significant portion of a local pond.

They uncovered a pair of women’s underwear, a purse, a backpack, and 3 car seat covers.

Golba says his team is not sure how long the items have been there or who they belong too.

A witness claims he saw lead suspect Joran Van der Sloot leaving this pond the night Natalee disappeared.

      The search continues Saturday.

Aruba authorities help search for Natalee Holloway
      14 hours ago

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — Authorities in Aruba are helping a U.S. private investigator search a pond for signs of missing U.S. teen Natalee Holloway despite having no new leads in the case.

Firefighters are using a hose to blast mud and debris out of a pond that witnesses previously identified as a possible location for her remains. The pond was drained for the search.

Investigator Fred Golba said Saturday they are still searching and declined further comment. He was hired by Holloway’s father to search the pond even though it has been scoured before.

The 18-year-old was last seen leaving a bar with Joran Van der Sloot during a 2005 high school graduation trip.

Van der Sloot has been arrested twice and released for lack of evidence.

    27. Susan on March 29th, 2009 9:05 am

According to reports, the pond that Golba is searching now is NOT the same pond that was initially, only PARTIALLY drained when Beth and Dave were on the poverty stricken, drug infested, lawless, third world isle of Aruba…

    28. Susan on March 29th, 2009 9:12 am

I also find it highly UNLIKELY that the Aruban authorities are doing anything at all to ASSIST in the search. Firefighters ARE NOT law enforcement officials. ALE never offered before, during the most critical hours after Natalee disappeared, so why start now???

The Associated Press needs to stop it’s BS, misleading reporting and GET IT RIGHT!!

Pond Search for Natalee Holloway Almost Complete
      Monday, March 30, 2009

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A private investigator scouring a drained pond in Aruba for clues that could help solve the mystery of a missing U.S. teen is preparing to wrap up his latest search and report any findings, an official on the Dutch Caribbean island said Monday.

Ruben Croes, president of the Aruba Search and Rescue Foundation, which has helped look for Natalee Holloway off and on since she vanished in May 2005, said U.S. investigator Fred Golba will end his probe of the garbage-strewn retention pond on Tuesday and then depart the island.

A team of foundation volunteers, including Croes and his son, have helped the tracker dog specialist from Chicopee, Massachusetts, probe the muddy bottom of the 250-square-meter retention pond since last week. Aruban police have been observing Golba’s search.

“We will all meet tomorrow and talk about what was found and what may be there of any interest to Fred,” Croes said in a Monday evening phone interview. “I believe there has just been a lot of trash found, but we will see. I haven’t been there since the weekend.”

Natalee Holloway, from Mountain Brook, Alabama, was 18 when she was last seen leaving a bar in the Aruban capital on the final night of a high school graduation trip. No trace of her has been found despite extensive searches involving hundreds of volunteers, Aruban soldiers, FBI agents and even Dutch F-16 jets with special equipment.

Although the pond next to a popular soccer field in northwest Aruba has been searched before, the missing girl’s father, Dave Holloway, hired Golba again because a witness last year alleged he saw the only remaining suspect, Joran van der Sloot, coming out of its brackish water with only one sneaker on after Natalee’s disappearance.

Croes said Aruban volunteers have been helping Golba, who has searched for Holloway eight times before, with his latest search at the request of the Aruba Prosecutors’ Office. He said it was done out of “courtesy” for the aching Holloway family.

“I can understand, of course, that when you lose someone like this that you want to keep looking,” Croes said.

Dave Holloway could not immediately be reached at his home in Meridian, Mississippi.

Ann Angela, a spokeswoman for the Aruba Prosecutors’ Office, has said neither police nor prosecutors have any new information in the case, but they gave Dave Holloway permission to search the pond, which is about a mile (kilometer) away from where his daughter was last seen.

In early January, Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos said his office was “approaching the end of this lengthy investigation” and appealed to the public for help.

    38. Jody on March 31st, 2009 6:56 pm

I worked and traveled with Tim Miller to Aruba during the initial search for Natalee. Mr. Miller did everything possible to find her. I witnessed first hand some of the problems with ALE. However, and Tim would agree with this statement, I believe it unfair to judge the Aruban people as uncooperative. They were all extremely helpful with our search efforts. Local businesses donated food, hotel rooms equipment etc. to us. Jossie Sr. and Jossie Jr. and their families were wonderful to Tim and our volunteers. They are also local businessmen who love Aruba. Even Dave would tell you how much help everyone provided. While there were many legal and political problems culminating from Ms. Holloways dissappearance, there were so many that helped. Tim has always praised the Aruban people. That is not to say that some of those in power were extremely frustrating to deal with. However, I would have to say the Aruban people were wonderful to all of us. We must all remember that when traveling or doing business in foreign countries we are subject to their laws. With us searching in Aruba we had to follow their laws. It certainly makes you appreciate being an American. This is the best country in the world. Sometime it takes something this horrific to remind us all how very priveledged we are to live here. Tim Miller,Volunteers, both American and Aruban helped look for Natalee. Let us try and remember the actions of a few should not deflect the whole of the others. Beth Holloway started her own organization to remind others to be more careful when traveling in foreign countries. As Americans, again, we sometime take for granted how many rights and priveledges we have. We just assume we have them when traveling out of our country. We should all continue praying for the Holloway Family, Texas Equusearch and the good people of Aruba. No one wants to see this unresolved.
      God Bless

As I sit watching the Natalie Halloway movie on LMN, my heart aches for Natalie’s family. I have two daughters of my own and when they graduated from high school, I allowed them to go on a cruise with their older brother as a chaperon.

I firmly believe that the Aruba police are totally responsible for this crime not being solved. I hope this reminds all Americans to NOT let their kids go to Aruba.

Perhaps this movie will force someone to do the right thing.

i still would not rule out the sex-slave trade, and it could very well be a long shot, but the fact that no dna from natalee indicating foul play or death has ever been known to be recovered plus the missing body i would definitely look into it seriously if i were the family and exhaust all means to do so. i know beyond a shadow of a doubt this case has been covered up and misconstrued from the start. i have followed this case extensively and researched internet articles, blogs etc and read both mom and dad’s books and still hold out some hope of the fact that she could still be very much alive. i am a parent of two children myself and feel that any comments made should be made from that point of view only God is with natalee wherever she may be and the holloways
