Barack Obama Sliding Tax Scale, $250K …$200K … $150K and Now $120 Per Obama Surrogate Bill Richardson

America, let’s get is straight … everyone will see a tax increase under an Obama tax & spend, socialist administration. How else do you think his socialist policies are going to be paid for? The only difference is that the middle class tax scale of who will be affected seems to be getting lower and lower.

The ever changing Obama sliding tax scale has dipped even lower today. Today Obama surrogate NM Governor Bill Richardson stated that Barack Obama wants to provide a tax cut for those in the middle class making $120,000.

Obama having a very difficult time explaining what constitutes the middle class. Barack Obama first stated that those making over $250,000 would experience a tax increase. Then an Obama ad came out just recently that stated something quite different. The tax scale had slid to $200,000. Then VP candidate Joe Biden lowered the middle class to those that make $150K. Now Obama surrogate Bill Richardson says the middle class starts at $120,000.

No one needs to hear any spin or excuses from the Obama campaign that they cannot control what their surrogates say. They all get their talking points memo from the Obama campaign and know exactly what to say. The problem is that the Obama campaign knows that they will tax those that make much less than what they are claiming to get elected.

Obama tax cut now down to $120K as per Bill Richardson

Today, Obama Campaign Surrogate Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM) Further Lowered The Ceiling For Tax Cuts Under An Obama Administration To $120,000:

Gov. Bill Richardson: “What Obama wants to do is, he is basically looking at $120,000 and under, among those that are in the middle class, and there is a tax cut for those.” (KOA-AM, Interview With Gov. Bill Richardson, 10/31/08)

      Just today in Sarasota, Fla., the Democratic presidential nominee said that he’d:

      “give a tax break to 95 percent of Americans who work every day and get taxes taken out of their paycheck every week”;
      “eliminate income taxes on Social Security for seniors making under $50,000″;
      “give homeowners and working parents additional tax breaks”;
      not increase taxes on anyone if they “make under $250,000; you will not see your taxes increase by a single dime — not your income taxes, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax”;
      “end those breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas”;
      “give tax breaks to companies that invest right here in the United States”;
      “eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-up companies that are the engine of job creation in this country”;
      “create two million new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling roads, and bridges, and schools — by laying broadband lines to reach every corner of the country”;
      “invest $15 billion a year in renewable sources of energy to create five million new energy jobs over the next decade”;
      “reopen old factories, old plants, to build solar panels, and wind turbines”;
      build “a new electricity grid”;
      “build the fuel efficient cars of tomorrow”;
      “eliminate the oil we import from the Middle East in 10 years”;
      “lower premiums” for those who already have health insurance;
      “if you don’t have health insurance, you’ll be able to get the same kind of health insurance that members of Congress give themselves”;
      “end discrimination by insurance companies to the sick and those who need care the most”;
      “invest in early childhood education”;
      “recruit an army of new teachers”;
      “pay our teachers higher salaries, give them more support. But … also demand higher standards and more accountability”;
      “make a deal with every young person who’s here and every young person in America: If you are willing to commit yourself to national service, whether it’s serving in our military or in the Peace Corps, working in a veterans home or a homeless shelter, then we will guarantee that you can afford to go to college no ifs ands or buts”;
      “stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq whole the Iraqis have a huge surplus”;
      “end this war in Iraq”;
      “finish the fight and snuff out al Qaeda and bin Laden”;
      “increase our ground troops and our investments in the finest fighting force in the world”;
      “invest in 21st century technologies so that our men and women have the best training and equipment when they deploy into combat and the care and benefits they have earned when they come home”;
      “No more homeless veterans”; and
      “no more fighting for disability payments

      I hope all you high-priced help that are stupid enough to vote for Obama really get screwed when he becomes president and robs you via his ‘tax’ of ‘rich’ people. ‘rich’ people are now redefined and it’s a never ending process. Maybe then you will wish you would have pulled your head out of your ass enough to see what this joker is all about. And there isn’t enough money in the world to pay for all of his proposed plans so get used to it.
      I’ll sya it again– I really hope all you people you make good money and vote for Obama because it’ll make you ‘feel good’ get the royal screw job.

      Ah but as YoYo and caesu will tell you: Obama cares about the poor and the middle class.

      That’s why he wants to suck off a few dollars more from you so he can pay the City of Chicago $2 million for his election night party (that’s just police protection and clean up). Oh, this is after having paid $700,000 for staging and lighting in Berlin just so he could prove he was a world traveler.

      Wake up peeps! This dude is spending your money like it was water! You try to figure out how to dress your kids, pay your utilities and still put food on the table and Obama is off throwing VERY expensive parties while trying to buy and election. He’s raised $640,000,000 and that’s not enough. He wants MORE!

      Dream on. Both McCain and Obama will need to raise taxes to reduce the national budget deficit.

    10. Glen M on November 1st, 2008 6:31 am

      If Senator Obama wins this election, the following is what it has taken to get a very questionable, extremely inexperienced, very junior first time Senator past the mark:

      1. Senator Obama’s campaign is outspending the Senator McCain’s campaign 4 to 1 or more in some locations. This is due to Senator Obama backing out of an agreement he made with Senator McCain.
      2. Senator Obama’s campaign has opened up about 700 offices nation-wide versus less than 100 than Senator McCain’s campaign has opened up.
      3. The mainstream media has been completely biased against Senator McCain.
      4. Biased organizations, such as ACORN, have received contributions from Senator Obama, have been openly supporting Senator Obama, and are under investigation for committing voter registration fraud in multiple states favoring Senator Obama.
      5 An enormous number of biased celebrities have been supporting Senator Obama and speaking out against Senator McCain.
      6. Even though Congress is very unpopular, both sides are controlled by the democrats and have been making biased statements against Senator McCain.
      7. Senator McCain is disadvantaged because of the unpopularity of the incumbent President.
      8. All four of the debate moderators lean to the left and were not 100% fair.

      Even with all of the biased and unfair things mentioned above that are running against Senator McCain, Senator Obama only has a narrow lead. Should he not be way out in front? I have heard people state that on the news from both campaigns. That should tell you something. Also, Senator Obama pulled a cheap shot on Senator McCain and the American public in regards to campaign financing. Both campaigns agreed to use public financing during the presidential campaign. At the last moment, Senator Obama backed out of his agreement and took private financing, giving Senator Obama a significant advantage over Senator McCain in financing his campaign. In addition, Senator Obama is not being totally open as to where all his contributions are coming from. But even though Senator Obama took a sucker punch and tricked Senator McCain and all Americans by backing out of his agreement, Senator McCain is keeping with his word and using public financing. This is severely disadvantaging Senator McCain’s campaign financing by putting much lower caps on the amount of money he will have available. This is the reason Senator Obama can outspend Senator McCain 4 to 1. This also shows that Senator Obama does not keep his campaign promises, just like his past campaign promises.

      Just imagine what it will be like when you have both the House of Representatives and the Senate controlled by the democrats, and Senator Obama in the Whitehouse signing everything that comes across his desk from them. In other words, the person writing the check will also be the one cashing it. There will be no “checks and balances”, especially if the democrats pick up a few more seats in the Senate and it becomes filibuster-proof, which means they will have a monopoly. Again, there will be no checks and balances. We will have higher taxes, more government, and fewer rights. They have already promised all of those things. You will have a government that will tax the people that are creating the jobs so they can “spread the wealth around”. Who do you think creates the jobs in this country? Have you ever seen a business owned by a poor person? Are they the ones starting small businesses and creating jobs? Obviously not! So we have established the fact that the people that own the small businesses and create the jobs are NOT the poor. So lets talk about what is going to happen when they start taxing the people that do own the small businesses that create the jobs.

      So what do you think will happen when they start taxing the small business owners? First, jobs will be lost. They will not be able to afford to keep the same amount of people they have now – they will have to let people go. In addition, they will not be able to expand their businesses and hire more people. The second thing that will happen is that prices will go up. Do you think businesses will not raise the cost of their products and services to offset the extra taxes they have to pay? This should be obvious. The prices will go up on everything and will affect everybody – to include the middle class and the poor. When you go to the grocery store, the food prices will be higher. When you go buy a car, the prices will be higher. When you go to the department store the prices are going to be higher. Put yourself in the shoes of a business owner; if your expenses go up, would you not raise the price of your products to pay for them? Of course you would! And taxes are an expense.

      Now lets talk about presidential qualifications. When a federal employee or a member of the military has a need to have access to classified materials, they would need to get a security clearance. A security clearance attempts to certify that an individual is of high moral character and does not pose a security risk. If a federal employee or a member of the military admits to using a dangerous drug, such as cocaine, they will not be eligible for a security clearance. In addition, an admitted cocaine user would not be able to get in the military and if he or she is a federal employee, he or she would be moved to a position of lesser responsibility and not have access to classified materials. Senator Obama has admitted to using cocaine in his book that he wrote. As a candidate for president, should he not be held up to the same standards of a federal employee or a member of our military? As President, he is going to be exposed to an enormous amount of classified materials, have his finger on the nuke button, and be the commander in chief of the strongest military in the world. Would you not want someone in that position that can qualify for a security clearance?

      Another point I would like to make is in regards to Senator Obama’s experience, which is a drop in the bucket compared to Senator McCain’s. With the world and the economy in such a delicate position, I cannot imagine why anyone would not want the most experienced person in the Whitehouse. Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and even Senator Obama’s running mate, Senator Joe Biden, have made statements to the fact that Senator Obama is not experienced enough to be President and that the presidency is not the type of job for on-the-job training. They also said that Senator McCain brings a lifetime of experience to the table. Senator Obama’s running mate, Senator Biden, even said he would even be honored to run “with” his friend John McCain. These individuals are now claiming that they said that during the primaries when they were running against Senator Obama. Does that mean they were lying then, or now? Senator Obama claimed that he had more diverse foreign policy experience because he lived overseas as a kid. Living overseas does not give you foreign policy experience, unless you are an Ambassador, which he was not. If it did, then Senator John McCain would again best Senator Obama’s record since he has lived overseas being a member of the military.

      What issue or issues are you going to base your voting decision on? Will it be the economy? National defense? Education? There are so many out there. Because of the current economic situation, a large number of you are going to base your decision on who is best for the economy. I would hope that I have answered this question for you earlier on in this article. Such as pointing out which candidate has promised to raise taxes and spend more reducing jobs and raising the cost to live. But just in case I have not, I have a couple additional items for you to think about. If you look at all of the campaign promises on Senator Obama’s web site, you will see hundreds of them. How is he going to pay for them? I think I answered that already. But, if you add of the costs of all of them, mathematically it is going to cost us a lot more than he will be able to raise in taxes. So many of these are going to be just like so many of his previous campaign promises – they won’t get done. Maybe the economy is not the best issue to use in making a decision for president. What about national defense? In my opinion, if you don’t have a secure nation, the rest of the issues are moot. With Russia and China outspending us two fold to build up their military; with Iran and North Korea toying around with nukes and making threats; with Russia making friends and conducting military exercises not too far from our back door in Venezuela; with Russia helping Iran build nuclear processing material plants; and with the terrorist threat growing in Pakistan (a nuclear country), Afghanistan, Africa, and several other countries throughout the world, I want the most experienced and tested person in that office. Not some junior Senator that has absolutely no experience in national security. The economy is important, but national defense is a must. Remember, if our country is not secure, then the economy means nothing, our freedom is in jeopardy, and our lives as we know them today could easily be drastically changed in a moments notice. Just ask the citizens of the country of Georgia. One last point: Have you see who is openly supporting Senator Obama in the news? Iran and the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah have made public statements that they would prefer Sen. Obama to win. Go figure.

      There’s a story out today on AP that Obama’s aunt, from Kenya, is living in the U.S. illegally.

      No big surprise, I guess … who, these days, thinks of such arcane things as obeying the law?

      It would be hard to imagine that she was here without Obama’s knowledge … but, if the story is true, don’t look for the media to hold his coattails to the fire about it.

      By the way, a few days ago a story was floated in the press (probably to get a sense of reaction) that some bankers and ‘community advocates’ are urging the government to forgive some CREDIT CARD DEBT.

      As I understand it, this proposal would have the mandatory write-off of credit card debt over $40,000. Some 50,000 people would ‘benefit.’

      Used to be it was stupid to get in debt over your head, and to borrow money.

      Today’s message: who cares? Uncle Sam will pay!

    14. on November 1st, 2008 8:36 am

      Do you think businesses will not raise the cost of their products and services to offset the extra taxes they have to pay?

      This is something people don’t seem to understand when they hear that the “greedy corporations” are going to be taxed. They love that idea, but have no understanding that this hurts the little guy because the corporations just pass the tax along.

      Zogby now shows McCain in the lead by 1%. Of course that could mean an alert for more of the dead to wake up and vote and all those fraudulent registrations to become active.

    15. Richard on November 1st, 2008 8:53 am

      I saw a good cartoon over the weekend, the gist of which was that since Obama has raised so much money (after breaking his promise to abide by public financing if McCain did likewise; McCain did, Obama didn’t), under the ’spread the wealth’ doctrine, some of that money would be given to the McCain campaign.

      In the cartoon, Obama raised holy hell. “It’s MY money! I earned it! I NEED it!”

      The comment in the final panel: “Spreading the wealth isn’t so wonderful when it’s YOUR wealth, is it?”

    16. Richard on November 1st, 2008 8:55 am

      Katablog (#14) … Here in Colorado over the weekend, a judge ORDERED that efforts to purge the voting rolls be stopped. So, in effect, the names of several dead people remain eligible to vote … maybe more than once?

      Truth is stranger than fiction….

      Here’s the AP article on Obama’s aunt living illegally in the U.S. for FOUR YEARS(after being ordered to leave; capitalization is by me):

      Obama aunt from Kenya living illegally in US
      Associated Press

      WASHINGTON – Barack Obama’s aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States ILLEGALLY after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum FOUR YEARS AGO, The Associated Press has learned.

      Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), referred to as “Aunti Zeituni” in the Democratic presidential candidate’s memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday.

      This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango’s case.

      Onyango, 56, is Obama’s late father’s half-sister, the Obama campaign has confirmed. She is not a relative whom Obama, 47, has discussed in campaign appearances and, unlike Obama’s father and his maternal grandmother, is not someone who has been part of the public discussion about his personal life.

      The Obama campaign declined to comment late Friday night.

      Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one a federal law enforcement official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

      Onyango’s refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, noncriminal violation of immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system.

      Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the U.S.

      According to Federal Election Commission documents filed by the Obama campaign, Onyango has contributed $260 to Obama over a period of time. Under federal election law, only U.S. citizens or green-card holders are legally permitted to give money to campaigns. Onyango, who listed her employer as the Boston Housing Authority, gave in small increments to the Obama campaign. Her latest contribution was $5 on Sept. 19.

      The AP could not immediately reach Onyango for comment. When a reporter went to her home Friday night, no one answered the door. A neighbor said she was often not home on the weekend. Onyango did not immediately return telephone and written messages left at her home. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

      A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Kelly Nantel, said the government does not comment on an individual’s citizenship status or immigration case.

      Onyango’s case — coming to light just days before the presidential election — led to an UNUSUAL NATIONWIDE DIRECTIVE within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requiring that any deportations before Tuesday’s election be approved at least at the level of the agency’s regional directors, the U.S. law enforcement official told the AP.

      The unusual directive suggests that the administration is sensitive to the POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS of Onyango’s case coming to light so close to the election.

      The East African nation has been fractured in violence in recent years, including a period of two months of bloodshed after December 2007 that killed 1,500 people.

      Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said Saturday that he had no idea how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order. He said he’s not involved in the operations of the agency, even though he appoints the head, because it runs mainly on federal and state dollars.

      William McGonagle, deputy director of the Boston Housing Authority, said when contacted: “I know nothing about it and I’ve got no comment.”

      (end of article)

      What’s this? Political implications?

      Isn’t this country supposed to be run on the idea that the law applies impartially to one and all?

      So she’s been here for four years, illegally … and has contributed to Obama’s campaign, also illegally … and is living in public housing, also illegally ….

      Gee, does anyone think that the Chosen One might have known something about this?

      Hey, there are an estimated 10 million others like her here … who’s going to raise a stink?
      Apart from the fact that one of the two main contenders for the presidency seems to have winked at a violation of the law ….

      After all, who cares about that anymore?

      This article certainly reassures me about our public safety after 9/11. Someone is ordered to leave the U.S., and four years later is still here ….

      And, of course, the people in charge don’t know anything about it. What else is new?

    18. Richard on November 1st, 2008 9:11 am

      “The Obama campaign declined to comment ….”

      What a surprise….

    19. Richard on November 1st, 2008 9:29 am

      Update: Obama said he didn’t know that his aunt was here illegally.

      Character issue, anyone? How is it that Ohio can probe Joe the Plumber, but when someone who was ordered to leave the U.S. four years ago remains here illegally, in public housing ….

      If it weren’t the United States, I’d think that strings were pulled or people were given inducements to look the other way. But since a senator is involved, we know that can’t be true.

    20. Rob on November 1st, 2008 10:50 am

      In a small (.0000000001% of me) way I do hope that Obama is elected and there is a super majority for the Democrats.

      The pain will be everywhere and it will lead to an automatic DEPRESSION. It will also be the end of the Democrat / Communist Party in America.

      This medicine is will taste like acid going down.

      I don’t want this country to suffer for one second, but there is a clear 50% that have no freaking clue what is going on and they need a major does of reality. When that reality arrives, and it will on Jan 20th 2009… it will be those who voted for Obama and the Dem Super Majority (should it arrive) that will feel the pain first.

      This pain would be on the level of a hydrochloric acid syringe.

      Obama says he didn’t know aunt’s illegal status

      – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Saturday he didn’t know that one of his relatives was living in the United States illegally and believes the appropriate laws should be followed.

      The Associated Press found that Obama’s aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama’s late father.

      A statement given to the AP by Obama’s campaign said, “Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed.”

      Onyango is part of Obama’s large paternal family, with many related to him by blood whom he barely knows. Obama first met Onyango when he traveled to Africa as an adult — he referred to her as “Auntie Zeituni” in his memoir.

      The campaign said he has seen her a few times since that meeting, beginning with a return trip to Kenya with his wife, Michelle, four years after the first trip. Onyango visited the family in Chicago on a tourist visa at Obama’s invitation about nine years ago, the campaign said, stopping to visit friends on the East coast before returning to Kenya.

      She attended Obama’s swearing-in to the U.S. Senate in 2004, but campaign officials said Obama provided no assistance in getting her a tourist visa and doesn’t know the details of her stay. The campaign said he last heard from her about two years ago when she called saying she was in Boston, but he did not see her there.

    23. on November 1st, 2008 11:36 am

      Okay, so Obama, who made money writing about his aunt, didn’t know she was in the USA – even though she called 2 years ago.

      Ah, don’t you think his campaign workers, who supposedly scrutinize the campaign transactions so well that they don’t need no stinking AVS should have caught these ILLEGAL campaign contributions?

      Richard: Colorado sounds just like Ohio. No one seems one bit alarmed that ACORN and others are committing rampant fraud in this election. Yet, when McCain pulls it out – you’ll hear the “stolen election” scream from all over. These will be the same people examining “pregnant chads” in Florida 8 years ago, trying to give the election to alsnore.

      obama’s lie really continue & the republicans need to point it out. obama keeps claiming that these people are paying taxes as in social security & unemployment. those are a complete separate issue. the money doesn’t go into some huge account, it’s kept separate.

      obama is planning on using FEDERAL INCOME TAX increases from what he considers wealthy to give to people who don’t currently pay any FEDERAL INCOME TAX. that’s welfare, not way around it.

      Lay all this at the feet of George W. Bush. All he has done is put money in the hands of the very rich. One of his first initiatives was to repeal the estate tax, which you don’t even begin to pay unless you leave behind an estate of $1.2 million. We are mired in a war on the other side of the world that we cannot get out of. Gas prices are through the roof. The economy is in shambles. The country is like Germany in 1934 when Hitler came to power. Obama promises something for everyone, and yet he is going to lower taxes. We know it is a lie, but he has cornered the idiot vote. Someone will probably shoot him, and then we will have President Biden. I think I am going to be sick.

      david r: Are you aware that gas prices are actually LOWER than they’ve been in years?

      Why do you believe that someone who dies should pay additional taxes on money they leave behind which has already been taxed during their life time?

      Did you not get the news flash of exactly what the US has done in Iraq and that indeed there is an exit plan?

      Do you understand why the economy is in shambles and that is has nothing much to do with the last 8 years? Have you followed the attempts by McCain and Bush to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and how the Democrats told them to lay off because Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and were doing great jobs?

      How is the USA like Germany in 1934? Are you thinking about Obama’s suppression of the press? Or the way the blind totally just follow a man they know little about?

      Obama promises something for everyone, and yet he is going to lower taxes. We know it is a lie, but he has cornered the idiot vote.

      How very true.

      I will not address you last statement because I think it’s in bad taste to speculate on the death of a candidate for President and I feel that discussing it, in some ways gives kooks ideas.

      Gas prices are about what they were 2 years ago, and pretty much higher than in any time the last 25 years going back to the Iran-Iraq war of ’81 (source: )

      Why shouldn’t an estate be taxed just because the decedent paid taxes ? All taxation is arbitrary. What is it about a gallon of gas, or a pack of cigarettes, or our paycheck that makes it ripe for taxation ? I say soak the rich. If that makes me a Bolshevik, so be it. At some point the additional wealth is just numbers on a financial statement. How many homes, yachts, etc., can one man have ? With the rest of us it is a matter of educating our kids and providing for our retirement.

      Ben Stein said the other night on CNN that we need a return to Eisenhower Republicanism: frugal government with an eye on the big corporations and reluctance to get involved in foregn wars. I thought he made good sense.

      You were right about the last comment. Sorry. I’d had too many beers.

      seems to me if Obama wins and taxes the rich (whatever that means) more then they’ll be taking their money out of the stock market and Wall street will continue to spiral downward as it has recently. They’ll put their money elsewhere like offshore bank accounts or real estate.
      say goodbye to your 401k if Obama wins.

      One Yacht = A yacht builder employing around 50 to 100 or more people, keeps yacht brokers employed, employs around 8-10 crew. Requires constant maintenance employing several more, docking at a marina that employs yet even more people, travels the ocean spreading wealth at every stop and has paid a huge luxury tax. Is it plain enough to see how that works?

      Forget the businesses that where created by the owner that earned that yacht.

      Under Obamas plan everybody should own an equal share of that yacht that would amount to an inflatable dinghy. Calculate the economical gains on that.

      The capital system that has been in place for over 200 years is the only system that works because of its competetive structure. Change it and watch it collapse at our feet.

      david r – then you are communist. The wealthiest pay 60% of taxes now, the most out of any class. Under Obama’s plan they will pay 70% and more. 90% of small businesses are in the top 5% of earners. These small businesses are the ones that create jobs.

    34. david r on November 3rd, 2008 10:29 pm

      Rusty, you have a point to a degree. The current economic mess is due in large part to investors putting money into hybrid mortgage backed instruments that don’t produce anything other than a commission, or employ anyone other than a single broker. But the wealthy do not need tax relief. The middle class does. And Scott, Obama’s “plan” is simply WELFARE. To hell with him and the politically correct media. He will be a one-term president. God bless small business owners. If it were easy to have your own business, everyone would have one. They have made our country great. I don’t know where you got those facts, but this is what the govt says:

      99 percent of all independent enterprises in the country employ fewer than 500 people. These small enterprises account for 52 percent of all U.S. workers, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Some 19.6 million Americans work for companies employing fewer than 20 workers, 18.4 million work for firms employing between 20 and 99 workers, and 14.6 million work for firms with 100 to 499 workers. By contrast, 47.7 million Americans work for firms with 500 or more employees.
