Worrisome Trend for Obama: McCain with 5 Point Lead over Obama in Reuters/Zogby Poll

The trend continues … Obama losing ground in the polls.

Did Obama peak too soon? The Obama campaign is witnessing a very distressing trend as McCain makes gains. Their candidate is consistently losing traction in the polls. The once commanding lead in all of the polls by Barack Obama has now tightened and in some cases McCain actually leads. A recent Reuters/Zogby Poll released on Wednesday shows McCain with a 5 point lead on Obama. The MSM can spin it all they want as to why McCain has closed the gap, the fact of the matter is … the more Americans hear Obama talk and understand his positions the less they like him. All signs have pointed to major Democratic wins this Fall in the House and Senate. So why does Obama have a downward trend in the polls? Talk of change only gets one so far until the public realizes that its just that … TALK.

McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama’s solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

The reversal follows a month of attacks by McCain, who has questioned Obama’s experience, criticized his opposition to most new offshore oil drilling and mocked his overseas trip.

More poll concern for Obama:

At once point Obama had a commanding lead on the issue of the economy, not any more. People may actually be paying attention that socialism is not the answer to help a capitalistic economy.

McCain now has a 9-point edge, 49 percent to 40 percent, over Obama on the critical question of who would be the best manager of the economy — an issue nearly half of voters said was their top concern in the November 4 presidential election.

That margin reversed Obama’s 4-point edge last month on the economy over McCain, an Arizona senator and former Vietnam prisoner of war who has admitted a lack of economic expertise and shows far greater interest in foreign and military policy.

Why are Obama’s ratings slipping? I think it’s pretty obvious. Americans aren’t as stupid as the Obama campaign counted on. They actuality have started listening to some of the things that the man says (including the lies about abortion, his parents meeting in the Selma march, 20 year of not listening to Rev. Wright, his untold relationship with Wm. Ayers, all the people including Grandma who his tossed under the bus, etc.)

What’s REALLY interesting is to see that Obama has slipped in his support by every single group – except one – black Americans. Seems to prove they they are voting for Obama based on one thing that hasn’t changed – his skin color.

Although I could care less which one wins, they’re both underhanded and dishonest. It’s a shame that we can’t get a competent person to run for office anymore. Of course, it’s hard to do when money is being thrown at you from every angle. McCain is no better than Obama in my opinion. He’s in the pocket of big oil, he’s had affairs and dumped his 1st wife because she was disfigured in a car accident while he was a POW. I thought the wedding vows included “for better, for worse, in sickness and in health.” But apparently that doesn’t matter to the so called conservatives. I also understand that they are voting for the lesser of two evils. Which has been the case for the past elections, except for R. Reagen.

Obama is not the next Kennedy. He is the next McGovern.

    4. Jason on August 21st, 2008 8:51 am

Really. At the same time, a new Q-poll has Obama up five, Gallup has him up three (after being tied a couple of days ago), Ras has him up two, as does Bloomberg/Times.

Look, the race is tightening at the national level, but it’s much less tight when you look at the state-by-state numbers that, you know, actually decide the presidency. So while it’s not exactly a cakewalk, freaking out over single polls from discredited pollsters like Zogby is pretty pathetic.

We’ve got the veep announcements and the conventions to get through, and then the race will start in earnest. Be zen. Freaking out over crappy pollsters is just lame. Keep your eye on the composite — Obama still leads that by 1.4 percent — and maintain perspective — McCain has never crossed the 45 percent threshold while Obama bobs between 45 and 50.

I’ll be officially worried when McCain shows the ability to break that barrier of support. If he suddenly starts hovering in the upper 40s, then we might have trouble. But ultimately, this is a state-by-state battle. And in the electoral college fight, Obama still has a solid lead — without even taking into account the ground machine Obama is building (pollsters aren’t).

so predictable that each time mccain is a few points ahead in some obscure poll he gets a victory parade here. keep dreaming.

obama is still way ahead in the electoral college.
and they get to vote the president.

      caesu,

Is it just me or is this an anti Obama site? I’ve never seen anything on this website that is remotely close to negative about McCain. McCain is just as underhanded as the Shrub. Mark it down. It’ll be 4 more years of the same if he is elected.

    7. Harry Knopp on August 21st, 2008 10:41 am

You think that’s bad? New poll shows Obama with a 51% unfavorable rating in Ohio, which is considered “THE” swing state.

    8. brie. on August 21st, 2008 11:00 am

why would you want Obama elected to be President..unless you want terrorist control…!!!!

      Brie,

You are a fool and the above post makes no sense.

      Caesu,

This is an Anti-Obama and Anti-Aruba site.It is run by 2 right wingers who are Bush apologists.

    10. brie. on August 21st, 2008 12:42 pm

The above posts only reaffirm my beliefs…what is his real name…why a false birth certificate…why so many lies…he lived a communist life and probably still does…he is a black Muslim racist….your losing…and his supporters are anti-Americans….the evil to want to destruct America…and he is a liar….

The celebrity has no experience and is probably funded by the terrorists groups to destroy America…

    11. Jason on August 21st, 2008 12:57 pm

“and his supporters are anti-Americans”uh so half the country is anti-American?

“the evil to want to destruct America”

that does not even make sense! It isn’t even a sentence.

      Brie,
what year did you drop out of junior high?7th or 8th grade?Or are you still in junior high?Because from the way you write it sounds like you barely have command of the English language–

Also Brie…What happens if Obama wins? What will you do?

    12. brie. on August 21st, 2008 1:07 pm

He won’t salute the flag, which is what American stands for…he looks likes someone defending another country….!!!!his terrorists friends are funding him…

Jason if you left wing socialist Obama supporter can’t take the heat go to a koolaide drinking blog and salivate over your Obamasiah.

John McCain a true American Hero and our next President.

    14. Jason on August 21st, 2008 2:59 pm

I love that everytime McSame screws up or more of his INUMERABLE character flaws come out (and it is daily at this point … mixing up Shia and Sunni, the 5 million comment, revelations about making jokes about ape rape and calling his wife a c–t, Keating five, his DAILY flip flops on every issue, his juvenile and stupid campaign tactics) all the conservative commentators can do is repeat the same old five, totally discredited lies about Obama. Remember, Obama is someone who grew up in a single parent household, and through his own INTELLIGENCE and hard work rose to the top of his class at Harvard Law, law prof at a top five school, state senator, us senator and soon, President. what has McCain ever accomplished on his own, other than being shot down? Nothing. He grew up in a privileged household yet barely graduated college. He was a failure at politics until his young floozy wife bought his elections with daddy’s money. Then every belief he once pretended to hold dear he reversed in a matter of weeks out of expedience during the GOP primary. The man never had an intellect, now he has no character and no ideas. Good riddance. At least he has 10 homes because the White House won’t be one of them!

    15. A New Girl on August 21st, 2008 3:17 pm

Jason–No one could be stupid enough to say on this site that Obama is unintelligent or not a good orator.

So, keeping this simple—is that all he needs to fulfill the requirements as being the next Commander in Chief? Here, I’ll give him one more. He is charismatic. So, add that into the mix as well—and I guess you believe those 3 things make a person capable and experienced enough in performing the most important job there is for our country? Pretty scary.

    16. bushisaloser on August 21st, 2008 4:04 pm

McSame, 849th of a class of 866 from the naval academy and these people think he has superior intelligence. He’s a puppet for big oil and big business.

“Americans’ greatest moral failure in my lifetime has been that we still don’t abide by that basic precept in Matthew that whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me.” — Sen. Barack Obama. @ Saddleback 8/16/08

[Barack Obama's half-brother George's] two metre by three metre shack is decorated with football posters…Embarrassed by his penury, he said that he does not does not mention his famous half-brother in conversation. “If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed,” he said. “No-one knows who I am. I live here on less than a dollar a month.” – Italy’s Vanity Fair magazine. 8/20/08

    18. A New Girl on August 21st, 2008 5:09 pm

      “He Ain’t Heavy…..He’s Uhmmmnnn…somebody???”

Think we’re making too much of this???….Point of the previous post was that Senator Obama has met his brother George twice. The Senator has his address. It’s his OWN brother. But Sen. Obama leaves him living in an outhouse, while he insults the rest of us for our selfishness.

Suffice to say the media are currently taking shots at Cindy McCain for calling herself an only child when her father had two other children from previous relationships. Cindy didn’t grow up with her half-sisters or have a relationship with them. Now image if wealthy Cindy McCain’s half-sisters were living in a shed in some rundown section of Phoenix while she and the senator were living in, say, a multi-million, Tony Rezco-funded house. Think the media might have something to say about it? lol

      It’s going to get nasty…

      Red,
remember when Zogby predicted this—like I said”discredited” is a better word for the poll.

Obama cannot be bothered helping out his poor relatives, no more than he can be bothered seeing our wounded troops in Germany..

Obama has plenty of money and how could he just walk away from a relative in need…I would of given them a helping hand…

    24. brie. on August 21st, 2008 7:39 pm

Jason you ARE NO MATCH for A New Girl…!!!!

    25. bushisaloser on August 21st, 2008 7:59 pm

McSame was asked how many homes he owned and he said he would have to get his staff to check on it. He owns 7! He thinks the economy is fundamentally sound (heard that from the shrub numerous times). He has no clue what the average American is going through and I guarantee you that he doesn’t care. He’s out of touch.

    26. A New Girl on August 22nd, 2008 7:15 am

Jason, Jason—-so…is that what this campaign has come down to now is which man owns more houses or who has more wealth? Give me a break-you know they both are millionares and NIETHER of their incomes reflects what most Americans earn in any given year.

      From the Chicago Tribune:

“Neither Obama nor McCain owns the economy as an issue, because they’ve never focused on it, really, in ways that working-class families would identify with,” said Jimmy Siegel, who helped create political advertisements for Clinton’s presidential campaign. “Obama has always been about hope and change, in a broad sense, while McCain has always been about foreign policy and experience.”

Hope and Change, promises promises….they are empty. Maybe they are all empty since they are both just politicians doing what politicians do best?? All I know, it you have to pick the best out of the worst 2 selections we have had in a long time….one can get the job done—the other just plain frightens me.

PS- I am not one of your quote “right wing conservatives”. I’m Independent and I think that way as well. It’s always been about voting for a person and their character, agreeing with at least most of their platform…. and who you believe has the best ability to run this nation…Sorry, Jason- out of these two that is NOT Obama.

the dems have been in charge of congress for less than 2 years. we’ve got $4+ a gal. gas, 57 billion dollars a month for oil going to foreign govt. that don’t like us, and they’ve shut down congress for 5 weeks so pelosi can push her new book. people are having to decide whether to feed their children or put gas in their cars for work. and dear pelosi says she’s trying to save the planet. all the dems can complain about is l0 billion a month being spent to save a new democracy and fight terrorism. has pelosi mentioned in public that she also has to save and grow her $250,000 investment in a “green energy” firm in california? we certainly wouldn’t want the “drill here, drill now, lower gas prices now” bill to interfere with her own wealth, would we. how are the leftwing socialists running the dems. now going to handle the russians when they cut the oil flow to eastern europe? maybe the chosen one can read a speech off his teleprompter and scare them into acting like a civilized nation.

being an independent of long standing, i have the luxury of picking and choosing. obama is only good at making broad promises off of a teleprompter so he’s sure there’s enough “play” in what he says that his obamatites can come back tomorrow and say he didn’t say what he said and didn’t mean what we thought he said but that what he meant to say was what the polls says he should have said. that has happened with every single “position” he’s taken since his first one.
mccain is a maverick of long standing. he’s old, crotchety, and doesn’t really care whether you like what he says or not. it’s the truth as he sees it. i expect nothing more from a man. i don’t have to agree with everything he says, as long as he’s truthful when he says it. john mccain belongs to himself. he will make life miserable for the russians, terrorists, european socialists and the socialists who have taken over the dem. party here. that will keep all our enemies awake at night and allow me to sleep like a baby. i guarantee you that putin thinks obama is going to be elected, and georgia is just a warmup exercise for him.
