Aruba: Judge Rules that Near Closing of Airport Due to Striking Fireman Not that Serious … “Unbelievable”

How is it that an island that is 80% dependent upon tourism can continually take the tact that the tourist is not that important?

So tourists that continue to go to Aruba, even after the Holloway and Twitty CAUTION_signfamilies have been denied justice by some peculiar Aruban judges decisions. They think that such decisions do not affect them at all rather than looking at the larger systemic problem. Those “all about me” tourists may want to rethink that logic. Listen to the judges logic in the case of striking fire fighters and that the near closing of the Aruban airport was no big deal and not that serious, the problem was not so serious; that the problem was not serious because the duty officer has anticipated the actions. A judge actually thinks that the near closing of an airport with no fire fighting support with flights in the air to Aruba is not that serious. Wonder if the people on the fight think it was serious? What do you think?

Doesn’t this remind one of the bizarre, circular logic used in the Natalee Holloway case providing Joran Van der Sloot and others a free pass of getting a get out of jail free card in the death and disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

ORANJESTAD – Lawyer Anthony Ruiz refers to the verdict of last Friday I the lawsuit against fire fighters’ union Sinba as ‘unbelievable and unacceptable’.  “The judge has twisted his own words in the verdict of April 3 and that of his colleague in the verdict of April 8.”

After the verdict last Friday, Ruiz, who represents the Land, immediately lodged an appeal against this verdict, even before it was put on paper.  “This is unacceptable.”  The appeal comes up in court tomorrow afternoon and also the verdict of last Friday will most probably come up.  The lawyer is pleased with the fast handling.  “It proofs that the Court is taking the case seriously, because the procedure is usually not so fast.”  The ‘unannounced’ actions of the fire fighters on Friday had almost caused the airport to close.  “That’s what Buckley (lawyer Lisette Buckley that represents AAA, red.) tried to explain.  Thanks to the duty officer that immediately called reserve personnel that immediately answered, the airport could remain open.  And the judge now says that because of that, the problem was not so serious; that the problem was not serious because the duty officer has anticipated the actions.  Unbelievable.”

Lawyer Land: ‘Judge’s verdict unacceptable’ (Amigoe: 4/14/2008)

Public employees on strike have blocked the main road to the airport again last Saturday morning.  With this action they want to add force to their demands on salary indexation again.

The judge decided in the verdict of April 8 that despite understaffing, the fire fighters are allowed to go on strike.  The actions are connected to the same conditions in the verdict of April 3 for air traffic controllers, customs, police, immigration, and KIA.  The fire fighter had to inform the government of their actions 24 hours in advance, but they didn’t.  But the judge now says that this was not necessary, because the unions have already informed of the actions per letter.  “He forgets that Sinba was part of the defence in the first lawsuit.”  Ruiz says that the judge indicated that the actions do not need to be announced every time, because it is an unbroken action.  “But the verdict of April 3 states that each action must be announced in advanced and not after a cooling-off period.  The judge said Friday that he didn’t mean it like that, but also the opposite party has understood it like that.”  He refers to the actions of the air traffic controllers that were announced in advanced every time.

The actions of the fire fighters didn’t have much influence on the airport.  Even Sinba admitted that the results of the actions were not what they have expected.  Management members and fire fighter that do not take part in the strike took over the work.  So they organized a protest march from the fire station to the airport and back.  It was just the traffic that was hindered for some time.  Actions are also planned for today.

well of course it wasn’t important you silly monkeys! After all, it was only tourists on those flights and we all know tourists are expendable to One Crappy Island.

“the verdict of April 3 states that each action must be announced in advanced and not after a cooling-off period. The judge said Friday that he didn’t mean it like that, but also the opposite party has understood it like that.”

      Huh?

In my eyes, if adequate fire-fighting equipment and personnel aren’t on duty, they aren’t on duty. Whether somebody has “anticipated” this issue (and what does THAT mean?) isn’t the question.

I repeat my question from a prior post: are there any international regulations about this sort of thing? Not, of course, that they would matter on Aruba.

Yet another reason not to go there … assuming that anyone needed another reason.

    4. Dolf on April 16th, 2008 8:54 am

don’t know. Here they don’t go on strike that much.

think a Frenchman would be able to answer this, they seem to be on strike at least 5 times a year

      read this in Amigoe today…

American Airlines wants to cancel flights

ORANJESTAD — American Airlines has threatened to cancel all her flight for this coming weekend. That’s what the American airline company has told Tourism-minister Edison Briesen, says Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP).

Management of American Airlines told Briesen in an e-mail that the company is concerned about the ‘unstable situation’ in Aruba. The company also requests a guarantee that the airplanes can land without any problems this coming weekend. “If we cannot give them this guarantee, they will cancel the flights, and that is a very serious matter”, said Oduber.

Airport director Peter Steinmetz indicated yesterday that he regrets the fact that the public employees’ actions are concentrating on the airport. “I regret the fact that they are trying to interfere with the landing and taking off of airplanes. I am not saying that the actions aren’t rightful, but we are not really a party in this matter and we are only trying to drive the economic engine of Aruba.” Steinmetz also confirms that there was a bomb alert last Saturday, which turned out to be false alarm. An investigation on who did it is still going.

But she ‘s not heavy… our Natalee!

A star felt from heaven right into my heart
A brighter star I know I’ve never seen
Than I found out that it was only you and all your charmes
Who came into my life to fill a dream!

A fallen star that’s what you are
That twinkle in you’re eyes came from the sky
You must have straight from the Milky Way
      A fallen star… Natalee… ‘s what you are!

      Greetings you all

      Herman,

      Greeetings to you, as well.

      You’re so sweet.

      Thank you.

      .

I read this today and my first thought was that with all the flights being cancelled or diverted; perhaps Aruba HAD to make this shipment on time:

      http://cbs4.com/local/Brilliance.of.the.2.700385.html

Feds Find Kilos Of Cocaine Stashed On RCCL Cruise
      MIAMI (CBS4) ¯

A luxury cruise ship, which docked at the Port of Miami over the weekend was carrying more than just passengers, it was carrying an illegal load of cocaine.

Agents from US Customs and Border Protection and Immigration Customs Enforcement seized 16 kilos of cocaine from Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines ‘Brilliance of the Seas.’

Security personnel on the ship found the drugs in a passenger cabin on April 11th. The cabin was sealed off until the vessel docked at the Port of Miami.

The drugs, 26 bricks of cocaine, was found hidden behind some ceiling panels. 16 kilos is about 35 pounds.

Officials say they think the cocaine was brought on the ship by passengers and left behind in order to be smuggled off the ship at a later date.

The ship had just returned from a voyage that included Aruba, Panama, Costa Rica and Grand Cayman.

      .

Things that make ya go hmmmmmm.

      .

      Thanks, Richard!

“American Airlines wants to cancel flights

ORANJESTAD — American Airlines has threatened to cancel all her flight for this coming weekend. That’s what the American airline company has told Tourism-minister Edison Briesen, says Prime Minister Nelson Oduber (MEP).”

I have posted repeatedly on numerous blog subjects here at SM that AA and other airlines are flying NO WHERE EVEN CLOSE TO BREAK EVEN. In fact, the majority of flights have LESS than 60% seats sold. Since the Joran confession tape aired around the world in February, and the several TV specials that carried the Natalee story sunsequent to the tapes….air travel DROPPED from 81% (that ins’t spectacular either) to about todays level of 60%, give or take 1%. The cost of flight fuel is killing airlines, and they will seek ANY good reason to scale back flights to help THEIR bottom lines. Would you think someone, anyone, with 1/2 a brain cell at least took basic accounting someplace, and can see why Aruba is drowning in red ink everywhere???????

It’s going to get MUCH-MUCH worse just as soon as the legal action commences in Holland. Repeat of the dispicable story of Natalee’s rape, death, and remains disposal will be re-aired over & over & over. The world will once again see all there is to see and avoid in Aruba.

They just don’t get it. They have no basic comprehension skills. The BOYCOTT is on and it is effective. Bet your last florin on it.

“we are not really a party in this matter”

Now where have we heard that before?

Oh, yes … wasn’t it back in November 2005, when out of the blue Aruba told the Holloways that “We don’t really run the investigation, and if you don’t like the way it’s going, please direct your complaints to the Dutch.”

That, after six months of pretending they were doing something.

Aruba is consistent … you can always count on it for stupidity.

Remember a few years back when JetBlue was crowing about starting a weekly (or was it twice a week?) flight to Aruba?

Wonder how that’s going now ….

Kiltie65 (#21) … It’s alleged that Patrick is copying posts from here, and possibly other blogs, and pasting them on his own blog.

If that is so, then I see no reason I can’t paste here the private e-mail that he sent to me on the same day that he released his “public” letter.

I was planning to make a thorough post over there to repeat the reasons why the boycott is justified. But the reports of this behavior suggest that he is engaging in unprincipled action, presumably to gain publicity for his upcoming book. If that is so, I don’t wish to have anything more to do with his blog.

Having said this, let’s not forget the services that his videos of Joran have done by shocking the people of the Netherlands. How much of Joran’s story is true is a different point.

    26. Maggie on April 17th, 2008 10:01 am

Carpe, I am still laughing at the Easter Bunny purse. lol

We all know this isn’t serious to Aruba. A cop without his frosted flakes, coffee and a shave, now that’s top priority over finding a female tourist missing more than 24 hours. Protesting a mother looking for her child is much more serious, then questioning all the bizarre behaviour of law enforcement and family/friends ties to the case.

Now their new cop out is.. Everyone can just plead I was smoking weed and didn’t know what I was doing and go to Holland and play poker and party. I’ve never seen anything like this bozo cast of characters and unbelievable inhumane and injustice done to a tourist before.

I suppose if anything happened to the tourists at the airport, Renfro and Jacobs would send their families out to crackhouses to look for them.

They’ve never had any intention of “solving” Natalee’s case, they’ve known all along.. They would have to expose the ones who covered it up. More bad news for the island. In their fairy tale world it’s easier to pretend Natalee didn’t exist, Natalee was a drunk,a crackhead, Natalee was trash, but what they don’t yet understand is the rest of the world knows better, Natalee was everyone’s dream of a child, who was robbed of her life on Aruba.

Doesn’t surprise me the judge don’t think it’s serious… Judge didn’t think it was important to search the 3 last people with Natalee, yet it was important to wake up 2 black security guards at dawn and search them. They haven’t thought it was serious that a family and friend has been without their loved one now for almost 3 years. Drag it out, they will go away…

    29. Bob on April 17th, 2008 7:33 pm

And so now we need to address several sensitive questions of sorts to a few people on this board.

Who got to Jossy and told him to clam up?

What was Jossy’s main goal for the past several years?

A casual glance as you drive by the “Free Trade Zone” notes all those “Mansur” steel containers. Do they house supplies imported for hotel, restaurant, tourist shop, etc. use & sale? They are clearly part of the ‘family’. Did the “government” lay the law down about siding with Justice issues and cause problems for the newpaper / shipping business / other Aruban based business(es)?

Were the big shots living on the hills have any influence to muffle speaking out any further? What did they threaten Jossy and his family with?

There are a lot of dirty secrets and issues in Aruba, and the Natalee Holloway case openned a very sore wound that simply won’t heal. Laughable bandaids were applied and not well thought out before publishing them as facts. Too many questions have arisen that require explanation. Sticking one’s head in the beach sand won’t work.

We monkeys express our opinions, share facts we uncover, dispute something that appears untrue, and question the obvious and peculiar.

There is something that does not add up concerning Jossy. There is something that does not add up about the “legal” proceedings and renderings in Aruba: police, investigators, judges, prosecutors, government officials, and a host of other personages. There is something that does not add up about this whole case.

I can sit here and question it. I can sit here and don’t know the answers. But the one thing I can do is to act on behalf of myself and my family as it concerns safety. That answer is simple…..we will BOYCOTT ARUBA, and encourage everyone to do the same.

      JUSTICE FOR NATALEE
I feel so much empathy for Beth and Dave
I couldnt imagine anything like that happen to my two beautiful daughters.
or even my grandaughters… I truly hope hope that Justice will be served… even in some small way… perhaps evidenced by aruba’s tourism taking a big plunge and never to recover

as I understand tourism is one of the main resources the island has … many blue collar workers will be effected by the loss of american dollars. many with families to support..

    54. misskatie on April 18th, 2008 8:30 pm

and I meant to say many have been affected and many more will follow suit…

    64. kiltie65 on April 19th, 2008 2:26 pm

Just got off Gretawire, and on “Open Thread-Someone Pick a Topic” 4/19, at 3:44, an A Gibson from Canada was told by a cab driver taking him to Aruba Airport (guess Canada isn’t observing the boycott) that Joran was in a Pschiatric Hospital in the Netherlands (old news), and that Paulus & Anita have been asked to leave Aruba (???). Third hand information, I know, but wonder if being asked to leave was a formal request, although probably unenforceable??? The Van der Sloots will be able to save face if leaving by saying they need to be near their crackpot son…but working for normal salaries in the Netherlands might crimp their style!

it appears to me that the sloot’s little world is crumbling…brick by brick…awwww
chances are aruba’s big shot’s are getting fed up with joran and his daddy and all the publicity that it has generated for the last three years..
I would be curious to know if it’s for real that the sloot’s have been asked to leave the island….it could be plausible…
I dont know what the cab driver’s motive was for saying what he did.. dunno if its legitimate info than .but if it is .. it only stands to reason ya think…

all I can say is that they did it to themselves… karma has a way of making it’s rounds…
beth may never know the true story of what happened to natalee.. but she may get some sort of satisfaction .. seeing their world fall apart..apart..

doesnt seem to me that none of jorans so called “PIMP GANG” had much going for them..
jorans pretense of going to college was all just for show..he spent more time partying…. none of his so called pimps were interested in anything outside of the criminal realm… evidenced by their behaviours..
If he is in a nut hut..
and if he is realy loosing his marbles..which I doubt…
than chances are that it’s possible that he is being heavily medicated …with trazadone and seroquel and all those psychotropic drugs..but if he went in there on his own again for show… .than he wont need those drugs..it’s just for us to think he is nuts….
I work in that field .. and trust me I have seen clients literaly fool the their shrink Drs… .. they know how to act and what to say…its not until the dr is out of sight that they resume to their typical behaviours…its the counselors that work with them closely on a daily basis can see through them… I am sure joran is working it for what its worth… a sociopath knows how to manipulate people to get what he or she want…hell he can even sell you lake front property in the dessert..

anyways justice for beth and dave..
my heart goes out to them…
      they deserve answers….

Hello again from Wageningen in Holland. Yea, that’s where I am Kathie. I just read between a lot of stories that Renee Gielen will come in the news with a new on facts build material about our Natalee Holloway. For those who had to live for three long years, any serious message could be welcome, because it was a long time. Believe me: we all are not the only ones who want to know more about the hidden secrets of the truth!
The time here is now: 13.21 pm

    67. misskatie on April 20th, 2008 5:52 pm

    69. Herman on April 22nd, 2008 4:39 pm

      Hello katie,
I hope you still read this one. Renee Gielen is a l reporter with a small specialized team. After all these years I read a writing of her friend that she didn’t give up in searching for the sake of Natalee.
