Isn’t Tourism Supposed to be About the Tourist? Not in Aruba with the Airport Strike as Planes were Diverted

What part about tourism does Aruba not understand has all to do with the Question_marktourist? Keep it up Aruba, here is one sure fire way to further destroy your tourism. Maybe the AHATA would like to sue all the striking public employees as they tried to do with Greta Van Susteren?

Can one only imagine spending all the time planning, let alone saving for a vacation, only to have your plane diverted to another island due to striking airport employees. That is what happened to 4 planes that were bound for Aruba but instead her diverted to Bonaire, Curacao and Puerto Rico. Maybe the tourists should have made their travel plans to those locations instead. In past events when arriving passengers to Aruba saw the strike caused them to be troubled. At least they got to their intended destination. Or maybe that was actually a bad thing?

The airport of Aruba has missed four flights yesterday due to actions of the fire brigade.  Two Continental flights diverted to Bonaire and Curacao.  Also an American flight diverted to Curacao and one of US Airways to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The diversion of the 4 flights was an inconvenience for the passengers, mostly tourists, because it was not until they were in the aircraft that they heard that the aircraft received a different destination, without hotel reservation.  The diversion of the aircrafts had also consequences for the hotel- and the entire tourism sector.

Airport is coping with consequences of the strikes (Amigoe: April 9, 2008)

The airport fire fighters started their actions immediately after the verdict of the judge.

ORANJESTAD – The airport of Aruba has missed four flights yesterday due to actions of the fire brigade.  Two Continental flights diverted to Bonaire and Curacao.  Also an American flight diverted to Curacao and one of US Airways to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) has not decided yet whether she will appeal the decision of the judge to allow actions.  However, spokesperson Hendrik Croes van AAA indicated that AAA will most probably not appeal.

The judge decided yesterday that collective actions of the fire fighters’ union Sinba are allowed, unless AAA and the government are informed 24 hours in advance of the actions.  They must be at work two full days in a row after one day of strike; three full days after two days of strike; and four full days after three days of strike.

When the actions continue or resumed, the union must always consider this schedule.

The unions have not announced actions for today, not tomorrow.  Airline companies won’t have to divert to other airports today.  The airport could not guarantee a minimum staffing of the fire brigade during the strike hours noon till 18:00.  The Aviation Administration has therefore decided to inform all the companies that were coming to Aruba of this.  That’s when the three airline companies decided to divert.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is in Aruba Currently for a safety audit of the airport.  This has nothing to do with the strikes, but it is a sad concurrence of circumstances.  Representatives of AAA and ICAO deliberated this morning and the details whether to continue with the audit was not clear when this paper went to press.  This audit is part of the ICAO inspections of all the airports of the Kingdom.

It is only fair to mention that hundreds of American Airlines flights have been taken down for yet another day for safety checks.

My own belief is that the whole thing reflects political plays by the FAA … not so long ago it was found to have been overly friendly to Southwest Airlines, so I think it’s now trying to cozy up to Congress by ‘standing tough.’

And Frontier Airlines joined the ranks of bankrupt airlines today, filing for Chapter 13 protection.

Does anyone understand anything that’s going on in the news today? More and more, I see things that nobody would believe if they were in a story.

Anyway, I’m puzzled about what the judge said in re the firefighter union … does it have the freedom to move from one plan to another?

I also wonder who diverted those four flights … Aruba, the airlines?

      Nothing seems to work anymore.

    13. Richard on April 11th, 2008 12:56 pm

As I understand it, there’s only one airport on Aruba that serves commercial flights. (The illegal landing strips used by the drug merchants don’t count.)

It says in the article above (to answer my question in post #8) that the decision to divert the flights was made by the airlines. I’m wondering if there is some international rule about this … that airports have to confirm the availability of adequate firefighting resources, just in case?

      I don’t know.

But if the article is accurate, then the plane diversions aren’t the actions of Aruba.

And if airport conditions are unsafe, by whatever standard is applied, then … surprise, surprise … Aruba might actually have done the right thing in diverting the flights.

After all, there are honest lawyers … dedicated politicians … investment advisers who are devoted to the interests of their clients …

at least, all of these exist in theory …

So is it impossible that, for once, Aruba did the right thing? It would be more typical if the island said “Well, there are safety concerns … but so what? We want the money.”

I imagine that disrupting tourism is part and parcel of what the demonstrators want to do. That gives their strike more impact.

In any case, based on what I heard at the King of Prussia demonstration, the tourists who think that Aruba hotels will give them a break because their flights were diverted are in for an unpleasant surprise. And Aruba will incur more negative sentiment thereby.

While Aruba has had an increase in tourism for several years, there is a definite decline in tourism since the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. While there is no information as to which countries people not going to Aruba are from, and with the U.S. being Aruba’s primary tourist source that now has a consumer boycott against Aruba, one can easily conclude the drop in tourism is from the U.S. Even with Aruba’s campaigns to increase tourism from other countries, Aruba has still not compensated for the loss of U.S. tourist dollars. Thus, the Aruba boycott is working.

Art Nittskoff, the chief travel agent for Gamble America who specializes in vacation travel reported that although he has never sold many Aruba vacations because there are no direct flights from Cleveland to Aruba, people he spoke to in the travel industry reported no perceivable change in Aruba travel over the past year. This would be consistent with both Aruba not having a 10 percent increase in tourism, as well as a 2.2 percent decline in travel to Aruba, as small percentage changes on a per-travel-agency level may not be noticed. A 10 percent change in any direction, however, would certainly be noticed.

Aruba tourism officials clearly overstated its tourism statistics, then failed to backtrack enough to match its own central bank’s reports. With many of Aruba’s statements regarding the disappearance of Natalee Holloway being questioned by her family, one has to wonder why Aruba would release any questionable numbers, yet that is exactly what Aruba appears to have done.

I found this online the above

    21. misskatie on April 11th, 2008 9:06 pm

While Aruba stated a less than stellar fourth quarter, the overall economic data reported by the bank does not match the overall tourism numbers.

A 2.2 percent occupancy rate decline may not sound like much, but if that was only in the fourth quarter, it could not possibly be from a single quarter when the same report states “the net international reserves of the monetary sector decreased … and were … 9 percent lower than a year earlier.” In other words, a 2.2 percent decline from a 10 percent gain would still mean a 7.8 percent overall increase, yet the bank reported an overall economic slowdown. In fact, the bank reported that 2005 was a bad overall tourism year in Aruba. Since Aruba’s economy is almost totally based on tourism, Aruba is clearly in a recession that has nothing to do with the economic growth in the rest of the free-market world.

Aruba is clearly concerned with its image, and Aruba’s bank is primarily concerned how their businesses are doing and making money. Additionally, banks are notorious for reporting their financial status accurately. The more reliable numbers, therefore, are from the bank as opposed to public-relations people.

    22. misskatie on April 11th, 2008 9:07 pm

In 2006, Aruba backtracked from reports of double-digit tourism increases. In an article at Aruba.com dated March 31, 2006, Aruba reported a modest 0.6 percent overall 2005 tourism increase, which is a far cry from the steady 9-10 percent numbers stated earlier in the year. If all the reports are true, then Aruba must have had a sudden tourism crash in the peak winter tourist season, but that does not make sense if we are to believe the 9 and 10 percent numbers Aruba originally reported. If that really did happen, Aruba would have had a massive sudden drop in tourism, leaving hotels at 50 percent or less occupancy during the peak winter tourism season, which would have made headline news in the travel industry – but that did not happen. The numbers simply do not add up.

The sudden tourism reporting reversal was a result of a then soon to be released report that Aruba officials apparently tried to reconcile their reports to match, yet did not fully expect.

A May 15, 2006, press release by Aruba’s main bank, the Centrale Bank Van Aruba, states, “The Centrale Bank van Aruba (the Bank) mentions in its Bulletin of the fourth quarter of 2005 that available information indicate a reduction in business activities in the fourth quarter of 2005, mainly brought about by a dwindling performance in the tourism sector. According to the Business Perception Survey conducted by the Bank, businesses reported being less optimistic about the current state of the economy, and even pessimistic about the short-term economic outlook. The tourism sector showed a negative outcome. The number of stay-over visitors and their nights spent on the island fell by 8 percent and 6 percent, respectively. This resulted in a 2 percent decline in gross tourism receipts, while the hotel occupancy rate recorded a 2.2 percentage points decline to 77.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2005.”

While Aruba stated a less than stellar fourth quarter, the overall economic data reported by the bank does not match the overall tourism numbers.

    23. misskatie on April 11th, 2008 9:08 pm

The Belize Tourism Board has reported a drop in Aruba tourism from 2000 until 2003, with an increase in 2004 for both air and cruise ship visitors of about 80,000, a significant increase after years of steady drops. While trying to obtain more information about current hotel occupancy rates, I discovered something strange: While Aruba hotels have previously reported their occupancy rates in a timely manner, no such information was available for any Aruba hotels over the last year, thus raising questions as to what the actual occupancy rates are.

      Aruba fudging tourism number?

Since the disappearance of Natalee Holloway on May 30, 2005, in Aruba, there have been several calls for boycotts against the island, including from Alabama’s governor. While starting to research the effects of this boycott, three things were readily apparent. First, Arubans are upset that boycotts were declared. Second, Aruba has a vested interest in making sure no such boycotts affect them, especially from the U.S., which accounts for about two-thirds of Aruba’s visitors. Third, Aruba is a country that primarily lives on the tourism industry.
By minimizing a tarnished public image and reporting record-breaking tourism, Aruba has been swaying public opinion in its favor to be seen as more popular than ever, thus attracting even more tourists and countering the boycott against them. That does not, however, negate Aruba’s responsibility to report accurately, especially when Aruba is asking the general public to believe what it says in the Natalee Holloway case.

Aruba’s official tourism website, http://www.Aruba.com, touts how Aruba is safe and a wonderful place to visit, and that is not being questioned. This report is strictly looking at tourist data and possible effects from an Aruba boycott.

One article appearing on the Aruba.com website is from former U.S. congressman and now talk-show host Bob Barr titled “Aruba Boycott a Lost Cause,” in which Barr called this consumer action “not a real boycott.” In his article, Barr stated, “Only the president can direct that U.S. citizens, whether they hail from Alabama or Maine, are not permitted to travel to a particular event or country.” While that is true, this was not a government action, rather a consumer action by people who are upset at how the Holloway case is being handled. Tourists do occasionally get killed or go missing, but that is not the issue. The issue is how Aruba has been handling the case, which is what sparked a consumer boycott.

In a USAToday article dated Oct. 30, 2005, Myrna Jansen, the managing director of the Aruba Tourism Authority was quoted as saying, “Now everybody knows Aruba,” boasting that Aruba is more popular than ever, and even claiming a 10 percent increase in tourism, much of it from repeat tourists. Just about a week later, in a Nov. 8, 2005, article posted at Aruba.com, Jansen claimed Aruba’s reputation “remains intact” and claimed increased U.S. visitors and higher hotel occupancy forecasts over the next year.

      Tourism
When all else failed, Aruba turned to tourism. Until 1959, almost all of Aruba’s tourism came via cruise ship. Aruba’s first cruise arrived just two years earlier, and the industry sprang up quickly. In 1959, the first luxury hotel opened on Aruba, and for the next 28 years additional hotels formed the backbone of the island’s economy.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Arriving at Queen Beatrix Airport of the island of Aruba, visitors are struck by a gentle and refreshing breeze from the northeast.

Aruba is a prosperous and proud part of the Dutch Caribbean, with no abject poverty and few political problems. It is also an autonomous part of the kingdom of the Netherlands where nearly everybody speaks at least three foreign languages.

The trip from the airport to the capital takes less than 10 minutes, and the hotel strip with its high-rises is another 10 minutes south. The island, not much bigger than Manhattan, has 120,000 inhabitants. Half are Arubans, the other half foreigners – about 30,000, mainly Dutch. The rest are legal and illegal aliens from Colombia, Venezuela and other Caribbean nations.

Tourism is the island’s main source of income.

The average Joe can’t make a decent living the

Money laundering, drug trafficking, and porn probably all flourish in Aruba, as elsewhere in the Caribbean. That is not to implicate all, or even most, Arubans in these unsavory schemes, of course, but the end result is the same.

Charly (#1) urges those of us who support the voluntary boycott of Aruban tourism to speak out on behalf of the strikers. I don’t see any relationship between the two events.

We’re not here to address Aruba’s wage disputes; we’re here to promote justice for Natalee. The best tool that we have for this goal is to support the boycott.

Arubans, if you’re not happy with your own government … neither are we. Why don’t you speak up about Natalee’s case and the flagrant injustice that penalizes you and us?

I guess that also means people were stranded on the island and couldn’t get off…..that was extra expenses for the tourists if they could even find a hotel room not having a reservation….can you imagine thinking your heading for Aruba and you end up in Puerto Rico…..I bet those 4 planes had a lot of angry people aboard….and to think the passengers weren’t even told about this until they were on the aircraft.

misskatie….I bet the tourists were furious especially if you ended up in Puerto Rico and had to wait for a flight out of there when the airport reopened on another day, only to find the planes were already full. Great way to start a vacation, well that will be a memorable one to say the least. Bet they won’t be back.

So were the hotels offering their tourists any kind of compensation for all of the inconvenience, that is if you even got there, probably not!!!

Just looked at Bucuti Beach Resort, I see only one person walking along the beach….looked at Tara Beach view, I see two people. Guess there is no problem picking out a beach umbrella.

This morning at 9:02 there were some people in front of the Tara Beach cam…..they are probably locals trying to make things look good….however there are two people sitting on a lawn chair that don’t look to happy, those are probably the torists…

But in the meantime we have to get Joran in the courtroom to be questioned by the judge along with whole Sloot family and the Kalpoes. I hope they don’t sneak him out of the mental facility and he goes into hiding permanently.

      Miss Katie – #40:

      It wasn’t your mumbo jumbo

      I enjoyed reading it.

      But find some of it,

      the financial part,

      unbelievable.

Isn’t it funny that they don’t

keep books, and, yet, they are

      required to fill out these

      State Department reports?

      .

      Mumbo Jumbo means lies…

      talk…

      blowing air.

(and not out the back side)

      LOL!

    59. Patti on April 12th, 2008 7:39 pm

      I do have a question, though…

How does the MOB have anything

      to do with the Sloots?

The Mob doesn’t go around killing

people for the joy of it…

Where have you ever heard of a mob

killing in the way that Pit Bull was?

If anything the Mob would be

      on our side…

      They’re into Gambling, Money Laundering

      Drugs and Prostitution…

Not hangin someone from a rock and

      cutting their hearts out.

      Especially, a young lady.

There is absolutely no reason that

the mob would be involved, at all,

      in my most humble opinion.

      But, what’s your take?

A long, long time ago I posted that Natalee

was killed by a maniac that like to collect

hands… and taunt people with it.

Natalee only saw one person do those things

to her and it wasn’t Joran.

But Joran knew who this priest was

and he knew what would happen to Natalee.

      .

      and he wasn’t Roman Catholic!

      .

    62. Richard on April 12th, 2008 8:12 pm

Carpe, glad that you survived the trip.

Everyone: I’ve just read that American Airlines has been cleared to return its downed planes (300 or so) to the skies.

So flying should start getting back to normal … although the airline has incurred costs in this that one analyst puts at “easily above $30 million.”

Guess the FAA puts politics ahead of everything else.

In any event, we’ll hope that Aruba is one place that nobody wants to go to. Maybe the island’s government will wise up … but if not, it hurts the Aruban people, who obviously are of no concern to their own government.

Cry for yourselves, Arubans … or do something about it.

    63. Patti on April 12th, 2008 8:13 pm

I’m going to stop posting for a while. It’s hard
on me to tell you the things I see when I look at
the body in the bush. But, I will tell you this:
It wasn’t a game. But, rather, it was the worst
form of spiritual punishment a person could ever
go through. A child of God, dying for what she
believed in. Her virtue, her goodness and her
      modesty.

Some say she has become an angel, but she has
become something much greater than that. She
sits on the right hand of God and for that reason
she will never be forgotten, left behind nor
abandoned. She will always have those that seek
her out and stand up for her, for she has become
holy in the REAL blood of the lamb.

The sacrifice was already made and to offer the
life of a child for atonement of sin is a pagan
act of demonism that will never go unpunished.

      THAT’s who Natalee Holloway was

      and we stand with her.

      .

      Justice for Natalee!

    64. Richard on April 12th, 2008 8:15 pm

Carpe, just as a matter of curiosity, what did the drug and security scene in Cozumel seem like?

I’m told that Mexico has some pretty severe drug trafficking issues, but that security in the prime tourist areas is relentless.

And what was the area around the cruise ship terminal like? Was it anything like what Beth and Dave described it to be in Aruba, where you walk two blocks from your cruise ship and are engulfed with pushers?

    65. Patti on April 12th, 2008 8:24 pm

To persecute a child of God,

is like touching the eye of

      Jehovah, himself. He says

he will make the Rocks cry

      out to warn the people.

They have wept for far too long.

There will be Justice for Natalee

and the fall of the Arawak Nation

Those that control Aruba are savages….what was done to Natalee will never be forgotten….Joran was protected because of Paulus…Straaten also wasn’t going to let anything happen to his godchild…even though he was guilty….. Paulus could expose many people but in doing so but he would also expose himself and no one wanted to go down….especially Posner….check Smid’s back account I’m sure you will see some healthy deposits…

As Beth said everyone there is related in some form or another…her experience with Aruba was a trip through hell, including Dave and Jug.

    82. brie. on April 13th, 2008 1:00 am

Our FBI was there offering assistance and came fully equipped but the AlE choose to speak in their native language so we couldn’t understand what they were saying….tell me that wasn’t done on purpose…and then prevented the water search…papers issued by Paulus to prevent any acknowledgment from Dompig to grant permission. Why….because Natalee is in the ocean…..!!!!

Maybe the Persistence will get back there someday and maybe not….it’s a long, expensive trip for them that the Arubans and the Dutch should be paying for….but of course, that will not happen….you know Natalee’s family would like to give her a proper burial and be able to visit her grave sight….

Joran who is walking scared and hiding in a mental institution….he is capable of facing the judge and answering the questions, you cannot cure a sociopath…..who cares about his life and what kind of drama he thinks he is facing…..you are guilty and you well know it….done it 20 times before….a member of the pimp club….nice organization…and then we have his best friend Freddy, the porno freak….how much plainer does it get….

    83. brie. on April 13th, 2008 1:43 am

Joran is guilty of so many things and yet he is not held accountable for any of them…makes you want to serve justice in your own way…

Freddy comes frequently with his porno tapes…..they sit down for dinner

      Paulus’s good friend is a known criminal….

      You’ll NEVER find him.

Joran is sitting in a luney ben,

not because he’s sick; but, rather,

the plan. The day he confessed was when

Paulus was told by Van der Straaten that

he could just check himself in, in The

      Why?

Because, they are going to say that he’s

the one that did it in the end…

      to protect the Nation’s

      “Secrets”

      It would SHOCK the WORLD!

      .

that Natalee had been found in a fisherman’s

cage with body parts missing. Her remains were

      .

I always thought that they were going to go to

the strait between Aruba and Venezuella, first.

If that were true, perhaps the Persistance went

on a secret mission, then back to the U.S. to

embark to Aruba. If it were me, I’d want to

know if this was something that was done on a

regular basis… and then they found the skull!

Once this news got to the ‘Secret Service’

      Airforce 2 lands in Aruba…

      Way to go, guys!

Ships are called in off the coasts and all the

Aruba should protect its tourism by protecting its TOURIST. I think the DRUGS,MONEY LAUNDERING,PORN AND HUMAN TRAFFICING ate the real money source. The HOTELS are nothing but a cover.

Meanwhile, we all should spare a thought for Natalee’s brother, Matt. I don’t know how old he is, but he too will be graduating from high school ere long. What memories that will produce are anyone’s guess.

I am certain that Beth doesn’t want him exposed to public curiosity. But I hope that he is getting all the support that he needs at this time.

Actually #92, it sounds like Aruba is protecting tourists – finally! By having their airport workers on strike, tourists can’t get there, thereby being protected! I like the play Aruba. Keep it up!

    95. dotratc on April 14th, 2008 7:47 am

I checked the website for Aruba’s airport and it showed 3 flights (not 4) that arrived late. One had been diverted to Puerto Rico and the other two had diverted to Curacao. But all three took off and flew to Aruba after only a very brief stay at the other airport. Whatever they were concernced about at first was evidently resolved.

FYI, about 30 flights also landed pretty much on schedule and there have been no further diversions since that one day last week.

Also, FYI to Richard, there are no “illegal landing strips” on the island. Aruba is way too small and any airplane flying somewhere other than to Reina Beatrix Airport is going to be seen by radar.

On the other hand (no pun intended), I got a big kick out of Patti’s comments about a priest that chops off people’s hands and drinks their blood. Although April Fool’s Day was a couple of weeks ago, I still like a good gag.

      can you explain this”
      it was fowarded to me..
IS THIS A JOKE IS HE FOR REAL

      Dear all,

By now you probably all know that I am disappointed by the continuous call for a boycott of Aruba . It is a small reward to ask when you invest five months of your life to get the confession of Joran. Not only did this confession led to big problem for Joran, who can’t show his face on the streets anymore, with an upcoming civil suit, but also police and prosecutors are working hard on the case and the load of tips the broadcast brought. There is no indication at all at this moment that the justice department of Aruba is NOT investigating the case under the rules of Dutch law (which is mainly the law of Aruba ). It was clear the last three years that Aruban law enforcement could not bring the case against Joran to a good end. It was clear that this poisoned the relationship between the people in America and the people of Aruba . This was one of my main reasons to take matters in my own hand. Instead of asking for a financial reward that had been put out for tips that led to the breakthrough of the case (there was another reward for finding the body), I requested for the reward to stop any boycott which hurts the normal people in Aruba . I have said that I am disappointed with all people in the US who do not want to honor that request.

I am not going into any claims of possible corruption in Aruba from the moment Natalee disappeared because I do not have the knowledge, nor the evidence, that there has been any official government corruption in this case. God knows if the father of Joran has used personal contacts to try to influence the outcome of the case when he was a judge in training. If so, than I would not call it official corruption, but the act of a man who is not even Aruban. I believe that many people who want to follow this kind or requests do also not have first hand information about true facts of corruption, but as followers just base their opinion on the suggestion and speculation of others.

I understand the American people are disappointed about what happened in Aruba after the disappearance of Natalee. I was disappointed too. And I did what I had to do.

This mail for a call on a boycott campaign ended with the words “It doesn’t have to be an Island in the Carribean where CRIMMINALS are allowed to roam free.” That is suggestive, untrue and false. The crime rate on Aruba is much lower than in all states of the US . There has not been any major case like Natalee’s in Aruba anymore the last years. Statistics show that murder cases in Aruba don’t even come close – even that is an understatement – to the number of murder cases in the US and that includes unsolved murder cases. There is also no evidence that after Natalee any miscarriage of justice continued to take place in Aruba . Also the US has clear examples of miscarriage of justice, like in the case of Ron Williamson as described in John Grisham’s book, where prosecutors had to be blamed for mishandling a murder case, which left the victims in the cold (by not solving the case and making wrong arrests). I don’t have these particular statistics, but I would not be surprised if measured by crime rate Aruba is a safer place than the US holiday destinations mentioned in this email. My point is certainly, that without such statistics on the table, a call to boycott Aruba in favor of these places is shortsighted. Do all of you want to take responsibility for the next visitor of Key West or Destiin Florida who becomes a victim of crime, while that person would have had an undisturbed holiday in Aruba ? Of course not. The other way around I would not take the responsibility also. But do you know the statistics? If not, how fair and irresponsible is this advice for better holiday destinations?

I believe the continuous call of a boycott of Aruba is getting the quality of a ‘witch hunt’. Are there really any complaints how the justice department of Aruba is handling the case of Natalee at this point in time? What are they? Are you sure there is no bigger miscarriage of justice in your own country or elsewhere that would deserve a lot more all your energy and spirit? Especially after all what I did to bring this case nearer to a complete close and what the Aruban justice department is doing now. Do you really know what the Aruban justice department is doing now?

If it was a perfect world the bad guy would always go to jail, but it is not a perfect world. Yours neither Aruba ’s. The boycott can go on forever, but at a certain point it ceases to be any good for anyone and that point started after I got Joran’ confession and Beth found peace after she came to know what happened to her daughter.

      Greetings,

      Patrick van der Eem

      Carpe (#99),

The American Airlines flight that made an emergency landing on Aruba a couple of weeks ago was not forced there by striking workers. It was en route from Miami to Caracas and developed a problem with its hydraulics, so it diverted to Aruba because Aruba’s airport was the nearest and the best equipped to handle such an emergency.

    103. Richard on April 14th, 2008 12:37 pm

I couldn’t get on Patrick’s Website either. Along with that general letter, he sent me a personal letter today questioning my support for the Aruban boycott.

His letter was well phrased and civil, and my response will be as well. Hurling insults, in my view, does nothing to bolster one’s arguments.

Anyway, I couldn’t get on his site either. Will post a response there when I can.

Dotratc (#93) … So there are no illegal landing strips on Aruba? No offense intended, sir, but … what are you smoking? I find that statement about as credible as Dompig’s assertion that they monitored every boat in the water on the night that Natalee vanished.

    104. Carpe on April 14th, 2008 12:46 pm

Patrick’s blog has been inaccessible for me too!

      1. There is not one case in United States Law
that could be compared to the debacle that
is known as the Natalee Holloway Tragedy. So,
if that is in fact Patrick writing that,
he needs to hang up the phone, and try
      his call again!

      2. Paulus smuggled in a cellphone to Joran,
and instructed Joran on what to say. Still
no action on these criminal actions!!!

      3. Antonio Carlo had illegal meetings with the
ex Aruban OM telling her Joran had a major
role in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway!
De Vries got all this on the first hidden cam
go ’round. Still no action taken to fix this!

      4. The are not 25 investigators in Aruba currently
active on this case. Hans Mos is an f’ng liar!
There might be 25 investigators that meet in
the morning for doughnuts, a quick game of
Bocce Ball, and to tweak each others tits…
but I assure you, they are not working on
this case. ARUBA has tried to drag this out
and stall every step of the way. They are f’n
liars like the criminals they try and catch.
Everything they have lied about repeatedly
in this case, has proven that. It is on tape,
      see more at YOU TUBE.

      5. This Monkey will virtually burn that f’n island to the ground with all 100,000 people on it… if they continue to protect Joran, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. If u wanna sack 100k people for
that Dutch Frankenstein turdball Joran, more power
to ya… that is your problem, not ours!

      6. At the very least, he was guilty of RAPE
of an unconcious female. That is in the
law, he admits he did all of that. Yet, he
is still PROTECTED, still nobody can fully
explain why HE’S NOT IN JAIL!

      7. Until he is in jail, or smoked… I fully
plan to take down that island, and everything
else sitting on it. So quit cryin’ like
      beyotches.

      8. You people continue to ignore just how FURIOUS
you’ve made people… by acting like children,
and continuing to drag this tragedy out.

BOTTOM LINE: OURS IS MUCH BIGGER THAN YOURS!

WE KNOW YOU HATE TO HEAR THAT, BUT TRUTHFULLY

AT THIS POINT… WHO GIVES A BUCK?

      IT’S THE TRUTH!

WE WILL WAIT YOU THE F. OUT… AND MAKE THIS THING AS PAINFUL AS YOU WANT IT! WE WILL HUNT YOU, AND STALK YOUR EVERY MOMENT, AND WE’LL CONTINUE TO BE A HUGE PAIN IN YOUR ASS, UNTIL YOU GET JUSTICE FOR NATALEE!

No excuse can be good enough, why the THREE DILDOS can not be put in jail for something!!!
They’ve done nothing but lie, obstruct justice,
and call A.L.E. Detective PUTAS ever since May 30th, 2005.

      Patrick,

Thank you for your great work with De Vries…
but until THE GREAT RAPIST NATALEE HOLLOWAY KILLING F-TARDO is behind bars… I am sinking

of the ocean. I could care less… about the
GOOD PEOPLE OF ARUBA — who should apologize
to the Holloways, for standing behind THE HOMETOWN BOY WONDER, Joran… you know him, the kid who hey-diddle-diddled with his freakin’ johnson, while the Dutch flew f-n

I could care less what Patrick or anyone else thinks. I choose not to go to Aruba, it’s a personal choice. I also choose to tell others about how Natalee’s family has been treated by ALE and the Government of Aruba.

    115. Patti on April 14th, 2008 4:18 pm

I like the way he says that we don’t KNOW what the Aruban justice department is doing…

      While, in fact, we do.

      NOTHING!!!

They’ve already voiced their opinion of this
case; they’re tired of it, and want nothing
more to do with Joran. That alone is good
enough reason to keep ME boycotting Aruba.
Ofcourse, he is not nearly as familiar with
the case as we are and is not aware of the
number of murders that happened on Aruba that
were ruled suicides, drownings, heart attack,
      over-doses and convulsions.

So I agree with Klaas, his opinion matters not
to me and I will not give him the pleasure of
a personal visit. I don’t care to argue with
him… who would? An arrogant know it all that
has pity for Aruba. It’d be like trying to carry
on an adult conversation with a two-year old.

All we want is the TRUTH

      of what happened to Natalee

      and we want it, now.

And, then, her Justice will come.

      .

I’ve often wondered why Shango referred to the

ARE YOU FOR REAL… WHY DID YOU CHANGE YOUR POSITION ON THIS. YOU WERE SO SUPPORTIVE OF BETH.. PATRICK DID THEY THREATEN YOU AND YOUR FAMILY OR PAY YOU OFF.. ITS NOT LIKE YOU.. IM VERY CONFUSED AND DISAPPOINTED.

      .
HE REPLIED THIS TO ME VIA EMAIL

      Dear Katie,

Yes, I am for real. See also my official website http://www.patrickvandereem.nl

I have never changed my position on the boycott. Actually, this shows the kind of misconceptions that can also explain the continued calls for a boycott. How can you say something like that. Katie? From the moment of the broadcast, for insiders even earlier, I have explained I did this for the Aruban people to redeem the island. After three years of law enforcement being unable to bring Joran down, I took the case in my own hands. Whenever the boycott was discussed on my website or at scaredmonkeys.com I made my point of view clear. It has never been different. I love Aruba, I love the people of Aruba and I love the people of the USA , the country I visited for the first time when my grandparents lived in Miami . It worries me even more to notice what the level of information is on what you, and therefore the people for all this hate against Aruba , base their decisions on. Do you follow all these calls for a boycott with the same ignorance you put things in my shoes?

I am very supportive of Beth and she is supportive of me. It is very peculiar that you wrote this and it makes me realize something else, Angela. You suggest if what you think is good to do today is very supportive to Beth. Have you ever asked her? Have you talked about it with her, like I did? If not, why do you think you have to represent people you don’t even know?

I respect the people of scaredmonkeys.com. It is a great website. Many internet forums are people who just shout dumb or use continuous four letter words, but here I though a discussion was going on. I never assumed the name was anything more than a parody and did not apply to the people who chat there. Many websites are filled with people who are nutty conspiracy theorists, but I never thought about that when I think of scaredmonkeys. I believe that all what the people did there was with such a good intention, also the earlier boycott calls, but things changed. It is just a disappointment to see that even such a clear point of view as mine is regarded by you as something that must be the result of a threat. I don’t let anybody threaten me, dear, so much should be clear when I step into the lion’s den to fight the on-going calls for a boycott. I am Patrick, and not a ‘scared monkey’!

    120. katablog on April 14th, 2008 6:13 pm

My very long response to Patrick (and so much more could be added):

Patrick: I read your open letter on Scared Monkeys blog. While I certainly do not agree with some of the things posted on that blog, I can answer some of your questions:

You asked:Are there really any complaints how the justice department of Aruba is handling the case of Natalee at this point in time? What are they?

My Answer: You bet! Joran van der Sloot has confessed to being present when Natalee died, not just when you taped him but also at the very beginning of the case. This can be proved out by the police announcing that one of the suspects had confessed and was leading police to the body and the investigators quizzing the Holloway Twitty families about whether Natalee has a seizure disorder. One only has to put two and two together.

Since that time, Paulus van der Sloot’s judge buddies have prevented Joran from going to trial and answering for what he did to Natalee. In the USA when judges stay at the home of the perpetrator – we call that a big conflict of interest.

We heard that van der Stratten was not only a good buddy of Paulus but Joran’s Godfather, yet he remained on the case for some time. Even Joran admits van der Stratten offered him time in a mental institution instead of facing trial.

Van der Stratten was replaced with the Cousin of the Kalpoe brothers! Then brought forth his “secret witness” that Natalee bought drugs who turned out to be none other than his brother-in-law!

You bring up crime in the USA. Yep. We have crime. But Patrick, this is not about crime, this is about a corrupt judicial system that allows relatives to investigate the case while Rick Smidt the judge stays at the van der sloot house!

We have seen Natalee and her family absolutely lied about, slandered in hideous ways by Aruba, all while trying to cover up what Joran did and Aruba allowed him to get away with. Beth has been threatened off the island. Natalee has been called every name in the book. Stories have abounded from Aruba about Natalee being sexually abused by Jug, running away because she was pregnant, being spirited off the island by her parents who supposedly wanted her dead to collect insurance money, etc. How much should we take before we call for a boycott to save Americans from Natalee’s fate and the fate of her parents who just wanted their daughter’s body? Of course we call for a boycott. Who wouldn’t? Why would any one want to go to Aruba, knowing that IF something happens, if a crime is committed upon them, they will not receive justice, but a song and dance to protect the guilty.

Rocks were painted in a very strange way and place. Videos were released which show a man who has the same balding spot and same watch as Paulus at the Casino sitting next to Natalee, but no one would release more of the tape to prove that it was the “cook” – which is Aruba’s contention, Dave was prevented from talking to some people on Aruba who might have had information for him. All family members were followed all over the island. A fake letter from Natalee to Paulus was produced to try to make us believe Natalee ran away – no further investigation of Paulus or the letter; we saw cloth that strongly resembled the top Natalee was wearing being recovered and then that also disappeared, van der Sloots replaced furniture in their home while Joran was in jail, a bloody mattress found and we were quickly told it was “dog’s blood”, all sorts of evidence appeared and then disappeared, it was announced that blood was found in the Kalpoe car but turned to chocolate and cleaning fluid by the time it reached the lab.

Where does it stop Patrick? Yes, we see a cover up involving both investigators and Judges. We see the conflict between Paulus’ friends being investigators and judges in a case where his son was the last person seen with a living Natalee. How could we see anything differently?

Maybe you guys should join the forum so you can converse there instead. It would seem to be a more appropriate venue.
      Just a thought.

    142. brie. on April 14th, 2008 9:26 pm

Patrick did his job and he should leave it at that. His only mission was to prove that Joran was guilty but isn’t about to take on the justice system of Aruba. I don’t think he has followed the case that closely from day one. But even if he did he wouldn’t admit to knowing about corruption.

However I did not like his comment on the witch hunt!!!! Nor some of the other things he said. Patrick is rough around the edges but he did manage to do a great job working with Peter and getting Beth some of her answers.

I guess he forgot about the Aruban reporter that interviewed him and ripped him up really good afterwards.

Katablog (#120) … In re your fine response (boy, you should see the one that Observer sent! My computer is still smoking from reading it.)…

As far as I know, Aruba never identified by name the ‘cook’ who was in the casino video, and who many or most people believe to be Paulus vdScum.

They just said he was a local cook, or something.

NEVER was he given a name!

Like everything else on Aruba, questions of fact somehow get dissolved, overlooked, let go ….

And Pitbull died of suicide, after cutting off his arms and legs (and other appendages, according to some reports). Sort of difficult … except on Aruba, of course.

      Sorry, Klaas.

I know I’m supposed to watch my language

but, if there was ever a witch to hunt,

it would be Yo Yo Muffintop.

She loves to turn people against one

      another and reap havoc.

      .

She’s probably the one that started the

rumor about this being a racial issue.

Seems to be her favorite subject.

      .

      Hey, Yo Yo:

Did you believe Joran when he lied about Nat

saying that she was related to Hitler; or was

it the lie about her family owning slaves that

      cooked your goose.

You should run on Obama’s ticket…

      What was the word?

      Bitter?

      You get the point.

      .

      Byeeeeeeeee!

    147. Patti on April 14th, 2008 11:03 pm

      I can’t believe this…

Joran wants us to believe that some guy came

along in a boat and said, “Hey, you got a

sick girl? Just give her to me and I’ll go

dump her in the ocean for you, but only if

you promise to be a good boy and go to school

      in the morning!”

      Give me a break!!!!

      Does anyone believe that crap?

      I don’t.

    148. Patti on April 14th, 2008 11:12 pm

Poor Beth to have to put up with all his lies

away so they don’t have to feel embarrassed

The other said: “Well, just eat the noodles.”

honestly, that’s about all that can be said. lol.

    150. Vicki on April 15th, 2008 5:29 am

Hey YoYo, That was pretty funny even for you.hahahahahahaa My personal opinion is Patrick is a snake in the grass. Poor aruba boo hoo!!! If one person on that freakin hellhole had just spoken up for Beth or Dave, I could feel some compassion for the place, but NOONE did…They all put their heads between their legs and just did nothing. This drugging of tourist females had been going on for quite some time and ppl looked the other way. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED. SICK FREAKIN PERVERTS..the whole lot of them…sneaky creeps…they all make me sick.

    151. dotratc on April 15th, 2008 8:41 am

#150 You said that the “drugging of tourist females had been going on for quite some time…” Do you have any reports from any female tourists that ever went to Aruba and got drugged while they were there? That doesn’t seem like the type of thing that a tourist would just keep to herself. Certainly after the Natalee Holloway case became a major news story, if something similar had ever happened to anyone prior to that, surely they would have stepped forward and said so.

    152. brie. on April 15th, 2008 11:02 am

#151….the islanders of Aruba have already posted here telling us that they know girls are drugged and rapped when taken out back from Carlos & Charlie’s…Dennis Jacobs already told Dave Holloway they put stuff in your drink. It’s all a known fact the police don’t do anything about it. The locals of Aruba know this that’s why they don’t go there.

If tourists are given the date-rape drug they don’t remember what happened and even if they did and went to the police and there was an investigation they wouldn’t be able to leave the island until things were solved.

    153. Richard on April 15th, 2008 12:50 pm

Dotratc … Go back and read the handout that I prepared for the Boston protest against Aruba Tourism Authority, the first of its kind.

Among the references was the case of an American couple drugged in one of the casinos. The husband was taken to a back room and left there; the wife was taken to the desert, subjected to gang rape, and then (fortunately) returned to the casino.

Lots of other stories … including the three Aruban girls who charged that Joran and his entourage had drugged and raped them.

Funny thing … after Dennis Jacobs talked with them, they decided not to go ahead with their charges.

There are some other cases cited on that handout … look it up in the records.

And, of course, if you don’t want to believe me, listen to that paragon of virtue, the same Dennis Jacobs, who told Dave Holloway to be careful at C&Cs, as people are drugged in there.

Good thing that the police are so aware of what is going on in Aruba.

Interesting, too, that they didn’t see fit to do anything about it. But that’s Aruba ….

      ….

Since when does Aruba require proof of any sort?

      One witness, is no witness.

      patti
didnt what the guy do was illegal you ask
which one the one eating cornflakes
or patrick sending us emails? or who? lol I am lost …

    156. Patti on April 15th, 2008 5:16 pm

I know what Lardo did was illegal, I was speaking of Patrick. He can’t just go on to Vicki’s e-mail and steal everyone’s addresses off her e-mail list and mail out his own letters. A person’s e-mail address is privy information and is not to be stolen. Certainly, with him being Aruban, some would consider it a threat. If he get’s onto someone’s system, he can gain access to your identity, address, phone number, etc.

I wonder if he’s a stalker… it sounds like he was pleading for the boycott to stop. Like it, personally, hurt him. Perhaps, he was hoping to write a book with his half-baked piece of (you know what) that he had as a confession.

It is up to Beth to call off the boycott, not us.
So any harrassment of this site or its’ members could be prosecuted. He is trying to interfere with your Constitutional Rights, as well… and that is a Federal Crime. Have you heard anything more from him?

    157. misskatie on April 15th, 2008 6:27 pm

he sure did he took everyones email for his own use.
he cant disclose our names in a book can he? that personal info… oh well in his country anything goes.
no I wrote and asked him for beth’s email
because he said that beth agreed with him.
I havent heard any more from him.
from what I hear he is denying the context of the letter on his website.
I didnt expect to get a response because he didnt want me to ask beth.or give me her email… because he commented … if you ask beth she will tell you…. I dont think I would burden her with his comments. oh patti I also heard that his brother lost his business due to the boycott
what does that make you think?

    158. misskatie on April 15th, 2008 6:28 pm

      his brother lives in aruba

    159. Patti on April 15th, 2008 8:19 pm

You know that EVERYONE was on that list, right?
And you know what my family has gone through.
I don’t need to live in a state of fear of
someone being offended by my opinions, that’s
      the whole nature of blogging.

Poor Beth lives with that fear ALL the time.
I support her on this lawsuit against Joran for
shocking her. Everything he’s done and said were
lies, only meant to hurt her. And, Natalee was
nothing like they said she was. That’s why I
post, more than anything, is to give her peace.
Her daughter is something that she can, forever,
be proud of and no one can take that away from
      her.

I think about stopping because I hate writting
about it. It’s grotesque, but, then I see her
on that bush and change my mind. Someone needs
to talk about it! It was enough to free the two
security guards, why isn’t it enough to free us?

      .

      luv ya!

      .

      Justice for Natalee!

Besides, if I’m right; the world deserves to know
the truth about Aruba. Oduber should not be
allowed to rule over his own house, much less an
island and this may be a HUGE key in opening the
answer for why so many people go missing from
      that part of the world.

    160. Patti on April 15th, 2008 8:34 pm

Does his Father live there (in Aruba), too?

    161. Patti on April 15th, 2008 8:49 pm

Sounds like he may have a conflict of interest
like Katablog said; everyone that was
involved with this case had a conflict of
interest. From the Prime Minister that
didn’t want to be embarrassed to the Judge,
himself; the Chief of Police and right on
      down the line…

      Patrick, too?

That’s not the work of three losers going out
to pick up an American who accidently kill her
      with a date rape drug…

    162. misskatie on April 15th, 2008 8:59 pm

      patti
we are all here for one reason and that is because we know that we must help beth spread the word. encouraging others to boycott aruba . many of you here have given me alot of inspiration I enjoy being involved with all of you in supporting the boycott and helping everyone to spread the word makes me even prouder . I carry natalee close to my heart all day and when I lay my head on my pillow at night I pray for her and her parents as I am sure many of you all do …. I pray that god would give them the strength and resources and grace to proceed foward until justice is served.
we are her voice…we are natalees voice.
sometimes we get weary… and we think of not coming here to blog anymore… than we stop and think !!… rome wasnt built in a day… so it will take longer than a day to see that justice is served… so you get right back in there and continue the fight for justice…many of you have been here for a longer time and are more updated on events and facts… I truly enjoy reading these blogs .. patti and the rest are very inspirational and at times we even get a laugh OR TWO…in especialy when carpe makes funny comments about anita and than he posts pics of anita (aruba’s the beauty queen )… your all cool..
