Aruba, Natalee Holloway: Mother of Former Suspect, Joran van der Sloot, Wants Investigation of Investigation

Don’t ask for things, they just might come true.

The mother of a former suspect in the disappearance in Aruba of American teenager Natalee Holloway said Friday she hopes a probe will bring closure for all the families involved.

How callus could the Van der Sloot’s possibly be? How could an investigation Van der sloot family APbring closure to “all families”?  Only your son, Joran Van der Sloot, actually telling the truth for once in his life could do that. There are 100’s and 1000’s of missing person cases that end in homicide every year where the person responsible for the crime was the last person seen with the victim. Except for some reason in Aruba. Even after lie upon lie upon lie, by the three former suspects, Aruban officials made a joke of the Natalee Holloway investigation.

Joran can lie all he wants and his family can run cover for him; however, at some point Joran will have to face a higher authority than anyone in Aruba, Holland or the United States. Joran will face a much greater judgement one day that will last an eternity.

It would appear that the mother the former Natalee Holloway disappearance suspect, Anita van der Sloot, wants an investigation to investigate the investigation. Funny, this coming from the same person who did not want the trial to go forward in the United States when her son and husband were served by the parents of Natalee Holloway. Also, coming from people who have been benefited by and incompetent and corrupt investigation in Aruba.

Van der Sloots

“I would like the investigation to continue,” said Anita van der Sloot, mother of Joran van der Sloot, one of three youths extensively interrogated by police and prosecutors in connection with the disappearance.

“I would also like to see an investigation into the investigation,” she added during the television interview.

Anita, if you really want closure for all then allow your son to be tried in the US. That will most certainly bring closure to all families involved. Face it Anita Van der Sloot, your son is a liar and you are very well aware of it. The Van der Sloot’s know very well that if this investigation had been done correctly from the outset Joran Van der Sloot would be behind bars today.

What is good for Joran Van der Sloot and the other two former suspects Deepak and Satish Kalpoe is terrible for Aruba. The Van der Sloot’s continue the mockery of justice and Aruba and its tourism will suffer from it.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands —  The mother of a former suspect in the disappearance in Aruba of American teenager Natalee Holloway said Friday she hopes a probe will bring closure for all the families involved.

“I would like the investigation to continue,” said Anita van der Sloot, mother of Joran van der Sloot, one of three youths extensively interrogated by police and prosecutors in connection with the disappearance.

“I would also like to see an investigation into the investigation,” she added during the television interview.

Anita van der Sloot, who appeared for the interview with her husband and son, said her family as well as Holloway’s needed answers.

“I think it’s also very important that for them — for everybody, but particularly for them — there has to be clarity,” she said. “Then we can move on. As long as that doesn’t happen there will be questions. There will be fingers pointing at Joran.”

Joran van der Sloot, who said little during the interview, said he doubts that Holloway is still alive.

Holloway was on a high school graduation trip to Aruba when she vanished May 30, 2005, hours before she was to return home to Mountain Brook, Ala. Extensive searches of the island turned up no trace of her. (FOX News)

      To all,

I know, I know, I just get this way and this article doesn’t help. It’s all just melancholy dribble, so don’t read if you expect any thing really profound.

In this life, we are allotted just so much time. Some of us are given a premature glimpse of near death (right 1906? What a wonderful testimony to human dignity you exhibited.) and we really learn to appreciate each day.

If we are male, we can expect about 80 (give or take 7 to 10) years. You ladies can expect longer. We are all terminal. We all die. We do. In 50 years, I dare say there won’t be many of us around—unless you are under 30 years old.

Tragedy is when someone dies young, before his or her allotted time. It is even more of a tragedy when someone dies at the hands of someone else. That is to say, dies at the hand of someone who thinks they have the right to play God. Now that’s sad. Thus we have the catastrophe that befell Natalee.

Tragedy is added to tragedy when a life of quality (Natalee) is taken by a life of decadence, perversion, self-indulgence (fill in the space. We all know the names).

When a life of quality is lost, we (all of us who value quality) all feel a loss because we know what that life would, or could, or should have accomplished; or at least, we have images in our mind of what this young person might have achieved.

God loves us all. He does. He loves Joran just as much as he loves Natalee. He has given us all a wonderful gift in the shape and form of his Son. It’s a beautifully wrapped package, a gift. Every one of us carry it around with us daily. However, not every one of us has received the gift. We do that by opening the gift, unwrapping it, accepting the gift into our life.

We all know Natalee unwrapped her gift from God. We all know that if she has departed this world, she is with God. We all know this.

We don’t want mercy (none do), we don’t want revenge (some do), we just want justice (there you go).

Mercy is a posse that catches the murdering bank robber, and lets him go. Revenge is the posse that catches the guy and hangs him from the nearest tree. Justice is the posse that captures the guy, takes him to jail, puts him on trial, and then hangs him by the neck until dead.

Doesn’t the world deserve justice for Natalee’s life? Doesn’t the family deserve justice? Doesn’t Natalee deserve Justice?

It doesn’t matter that every rock that is turned over in this case exposes a new vampire. They all need to see the bright light of noonday. Don’t you agree?

      Jerry

Satish,Deepak, look out they want all the attention off Joran,They will now quietly and behind the scenes work against you.Satish Deepak ,beware the cover from Aruba was for the Sloot family .If you Satish, Deepak , were the only ones involved in Natalees death you would be in jail now.Satish ,deepak, BEWARE THE SLOOTS ARE LOOKING TO CLEAR JORAN BY PINING IT ALL ON THE TWO OF YOU,THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN DEFEND YOUR SELF IS WITH THE TRUTH AND THAT MEANS IMPLICATING JORAN AND YOUR SELF.OH yes JORAN i hope you fail every class say hello to GRETA.

    3. waterboy (Jerry) on January 12th, 2008 12:58 pm

Anita, Anita, that’s like a fox with chicken feathers hanging from the corners of his mouth calling for an investigation of last nights raid on the hen house.

      Oh, you poor pitiful thing.

My heart goes out to you and yours (not!). You have been sooooo mistreated.

      Jerry

    4. Blakerin on January 12th, 2008 1:00 pm

Yes I do agree, Joran can live the rest of his life (however long that is)revelling in the fact he got away with killing Natalee. There is however an afterlife in which he will have to answer to God. He will not rest in peace!

Even if he does not believe that there is a God, there is the question of “What if?” Who would want to take the chance that there really is one, going to face him knowing you had killed someone!

Looks like Anita has an acting career in her future like her son and husband. But no road shows in the future, since prisoners are not allowed to travel.

Is her PR agent Taco Joe?

Poor Sporter….not to worry Anita the truth will eventually come forth so leave your Sundays open for visitation.

RICHARD MADE THE FOLLOWING EXCELLENT POST ON THE PREVIOUS THREAD:

Hey, everyone, are you outraged to see those comments up above? Does it make you sick that Anita is throwing out that BS, “Oh, let’s all move on … poor, dear little Joran is still a suspect”?

Are you angry that after two and a half years, there seems to be less reason than ever to think that there will be justice for Natalee Holloway?

Posting here is fine … but that’s not all that is being done. Aruba Tourism Authority is going to be holding more of its shows in New York and (again) Boston soon. Consider joining in!

Vicki is in charge of organizing events now. She posts here, and I’m sure that Red can put you in contact with her if you don’t know the right e-mail address to use.

If you’re in the Boston or New York area, take a weekend, be prepared to meet some interesting and dedicated people, and do the right thing for Natalee … show up and do your bit to dissuade people from going to Aruba. Believe me, it’s worthwhile. And it DOES MATTER.

I remember when I got to Boston last year for that protest. There was a very sleazy-looking guy hanging around the entrance, watching to see if we were going to show up. Once I got there, he hightailed it into the convention center, looking for someone to run interference for them.

His efforts failed. After that, I saw him once or twice … but he would never look any of us in the eye. The Aruban way, I guess.

This is the chance to do something real, to stand up for Natalee, to protest outrageous injustice.

It takes one weekend of your time. Do this for Natalee, for simple decency (that is, if you believe that what has happened in Aruba is indecent, to say nothing more), and for other Americans. The life you help save might be your own loved one’s, or your friend’s or neighbor’s.

Don’t let others go to the realm of the drug lords. Stand up for Natalee; boycott Aruba.

And take a weekend to help spread that message.

    8. Jerry from Ohio on January 12th, 2008 1:23 pm

If this does not show just how sick this whole family is nothing will I am very suspect of the situation of the other children (two boys ) I think.
These kids will also bear the scars of the parents and an older brothers indiscretions.
Mother VDS now is calling for an investagation of the investagation and doing this will accomplish what ? I believe that she is buying time to set up Depak na Satish Kalpo to take the heat of of her son and the two Surnamie Morans are too stupid or scared or both to cut a deal and come up with a chunk of money that wouls make the rest of their lives much easier .
But also believe that they are not intelligent and this includes their mother to set this up and still not be killed by the VDS clan or there Lackys yes they will have to leave Aruba but there are many many other places in the world that offer much much more then this 3 rd world Island .
Do they really think that the VDS’s are going to stay permintaly in Aruba ? Well with their limited intelligence I suppose they might just think that if the VDS’s leaave then all will be well again for them to go with their dreadful lives on an Island thathas a known predjudice towards people of dark skin and they will always be just the service class working people that willl have to live payday to payday or untill they are disposed of by orders from on Higher up on the food chain .

    9. JusticeforNatalee on January 12th, 2008 1:29 pm

I would like to add to Richard’s post–you don’t even have to commit to an entire weekend–

A day–part of a day–just show up and help Natalee.

      Thanks to all!

so if Joran is judged in the “afterlife” so be it. In the meantime let’s make it our mission to make his life on earth a living hell!

I would like to see an analysis by Dr. Hodges of the VDS family interview. I agree Persistence must be getting too close for comfort. Getting a little hot about the collar VDS “clan”?

    12. Allan on January 12th, 2008 1:51 pm

Anita doesn’t want the truth to come out , she would tell what she knows about Joran if that were the case. That old psycho bitch talking about Natalee’s underwear. She is an accomplice.

waterboy thank you; you made my day.
One way or another we will get justice for Natalee.
The cover up has gone on long enough and it is now almost payback time.
      Trust me.

    15. Erik on January 12th, 2008 1:55 pm

In a live talkshow somewhat like Larry King (Pauw en Witteman) Yoran and his parents were verbally attacked by a private investigator who has his own show (Peter R. de Vries).
Peter called Yoran several times a liar, and after the camera’s went out Yoran threw a glass of wine in Peter’s face to the shock of the live audience and P&W.

    16. JusticeforNatalee on January 12th, 2008 2:08 pm

Here are a few questions for the probe:

Just what WERE Joran and the Kalpoes doing during that
      10-day headstart?

Just WHAT evidence was missed at the VDS residence because
of the wrong decision by Judge Wit?

And just WHOM does Anita think she is fooling?

      VDS = sickening

    17. JusticeforNatalee on January 12th, 2008 2:09 pm

      Anita,

You can’t really be that stupid.
      You just can’t be.

    18. Erik on January 12th, 2008 2:11 pm

Funny thing was that Yoran’s mother at the end of the show asked de Vries if he could help them to find the truth of Natalee’s death, suppose de Vries isn’t that interested anymore, unless of course he likes wine.

    19. JusticeforNatalee on January 12th, 2008 2:15 pm

I almost fell out of my chair when I heard the news just now. One can only surmise that they have now found a sure fire way to pin it all on the Kalpoes or some other poor schmuck who would do jail time for the right amount of money. This really isn’t worth talking about knowing the source, but it does make for a good laugh.
Anita, I can see that all the worry about your poor sociopath sporter has not stymied your appetite in the least :-)

      6. Sharon: “Is her PR agent Taco Joe?” Yes, Sharon, he’s the PR agent for the family. Kingpin of spin. We just don’t have the names of the people paying him, although we have suspicions.

If Anita and Joran wanted a trial, wanted an investigation into the investigation, they would have conducted themselves far differently the last 2+ years. As Deepak Kalpoe would say, “Enough of the b.s. already.”

Wait until Oprah has it on next week. We should have lots of housewives volunteering to help the Aruba boycott.

I don’t believe Anita when she talks of all the support they receive in Aruba from neighbors etc. This is BS. Their economy is in the tank because of J2K. I am quite certain people are disgusted with this family.

    30. brie on January 12th, 2008 2:40 pm

Joran isn’t the only one that fingers are pointing too….it’s the whole family.

For starters an investigation can begin with Joran speaking the truth and then Paulus explaining his timeline.

ty Erik,, wish I understood Dutch… I do like Mr. DeVries.. he seems to be a no nonsense kind of guy.. Unlike some who just let Joran ramble on and on and never point out all the bs. It also shows the kind of temper Joran has.. He has to have it his way or he blows up and gets physical it seems. Another reason why I am so sorry that Natalee had to ever encounter him on her trip to Aruba. He don’t like being called a liar, but he is one.. time and time again..

    34. brie on January 12th, 2008 3:15 pm

Joran is like a walking time bomb. One of these times he is going to pull off one of his stunts and it’s going to be the wrong person to mess with. That day will come.

    35. Maggie on January 12th, 2008 3:15 pm

I too want an investigation ..

Like why was the VanderSloots friend and co-worker for years.. Jan Vander Straten the cop handling this case? Joran writes in his book Straten is a friend of his fathers, and Straten offered him a mental institution instead of jail, if he would tell the truth. Oduber said this isn’t the type of case for Straten,, when he was taken off the case.. he was seen going into Dennis Jacobs office meeting with him. Straten went to Paulus’s office to tell him to bring Joran in for questioning.. Why not just call? Straten was in charge, when Beth and the cops and detectives, watched the Holiday Inn tape to see Natalee didn’t return within a couple days of Natalee being gone..and yet it was ordered to arrest the 2 black security guards, who had alibis and hold them for days. Yes, Anita your wonderful son let them sit in jail for days on suspicions of Kidnapping and murder..

Why not investigate,, Paulus working for Rudy Croes. plus,, it was Paulus who said he worked for all them for years and knew them well.

Why did the 3′s family fight so hard to keep the FBI out? Why not let Scotland Yard, Interpol or someone else do it right from the start?

Gerold Dompig, His son Michael, friend of Joran, who also hangs out around the hotels to pick up American tourists. He told them Koen had a boat that went out? Conflict of interest? If I remember correctly, He also was the one who got GVC arrested. I remember Dompig said his son lied? Why wasn’t he arrested and charged?

Arlene Shippers,, her cousin is Guido Wever.. friend of Joran’s and part of his alibi.. She lied numerous times on tv about the case and about Natalee’s family. She worked as a spokesperson yet had access to the police files. Why? Conflict of Interest? She was also one of the people who came to the USA to brief Bacchus on the investigation.. Nice since her cousin Guido was part of Joran’s alibi and was later arrested on suspicion of heavy battery against Natalee. He later went on to hire Gerold Sprong, the lawyer for Slobodon Milosevic.

Right Anita..investigate the investigation.. Maybe find out why noone was charged as a lying witness, or why someone that none of the 3 knew shows up and gives a false alibi matching the other 3 by saying he saw them drop Natalee off.Yeah right………they didnt know him..too funny.. Maybe find out if that was Paulus sitting by Natalee or where your son and Deepak really came from that night dressed in shorts, dirty and sweaty. Or why Deepak’s car was parked behind your house when Deepak claims he was at the casino, or why it was parked behind the police station the next morning, when Deepak claims he was home and then went to work. We might even find out, why Paulus was never charged with contributing to a minor that put the whole night into play.. Per Anita the Devries show.. We’d been having trouble with him staying out or not coming home… too funny.. Paulus takes him out and leaves him gambling and drinking underage, next night gives him permission to go out gambling again…saying he has sleep overs with little girls. Joran bragging hes been drinking since he was 15 and can drink a case of beer before he gets drunk. Anita, Find out why you lied about them searching your house twice.. when Dompig says the search was limited and the judge says noone asked for a search warrant on the house, thats why it wasnt searched. Investigate why you said Joran don’t do drugs or drink or why someone said Joran don’t gamble for money. Investigate why he got away with using someone else’s urine in jail to foil drug tests. I could go on and on.. be careful for what you ask for, I am sure that Natalee’s family would like this to happen too,,, As for the kidnapp signs.. if my daughter were to come up missing today, I would know she was kidnapped, because she has never went anywhere without letting someone know where she is going.. Duh?! Just be glad you aren’t the ones sitting there with the empty chair at your table on holidays.. pathetic people..

Joran has a bad, bad temper. He’s violent and cannot handle the truth. Give him a little alcohol and you see the true Joran. And again Joran gets more coaching from Paulus telling him to remain silent.

      Isn’t it funny?

People get a little taste of “fame”, and they become addicted to it. You’d think she’d want this whole thing to just go away!

And she prolly did, for a little while.

So she kind of misses the cameras, the turmoil, the suspense, being the subject of intrigue.

      FAME is a drug.

#42 Betty, that “car meeting of the three’s transcript” sounds like it must have been scrambled or tampered with, since you can hardle make sense of what is being said and who is saying it. I think the Ale poured bleach on it and it came out this way.

    54. Sharon Chicago on January 12th, 2008 7:34 pm

      Dear Kidz,
I do not doubt it when Joran and the K2′s say they do not know where Natalee is.

This was EXACTLY Paulus’ plan! He cleaned everything up so that these three would never know where or how he had Natalee’s body disposed.

This was so that under oath, the boys could truthfully testify, “I have no idea where Natalee is”.

My point: PAULUS VDS SHOULD BE QUESTIONED AGAIN.
I BELIEVE HE KNOWS THE TRUTH ABOUT NATALEE’S REMAINS.

De Vries has a TV show where he cracks cases where the police have given up or failed.

In the interview De Vries had zeroed in on several uncomfortable inconsistencies in Joran’s story. (after the wine was thrown)Panic. De Vries yelled that it was stinging his eyes. His wife went to get water. Joran disappeared quickly from the studio with his father and the audience was saying “ooh and and aah and why on earth”

Anita was left to try and smooth things over.

Joran’s parents did their best during the program to underline that he had manners. Anita, of course, looked very foolish. She had done her best to protect him, to portray him as a well-raised boy; and the moment he does something like that, all their efforts are negated in an instant.

De Vries was strongest when questioning when Joran decided to lie and co-ordinate a lie, with his friends, from the very start.

I find it interesting that the dear little sporter, during that interview, said little or nothing. Maybe that’s because Mommy and Daddy told him to keep his mouth shut … or else?

And what he DID say was a startlingly original observation … he doesn’t believe that Natalee is still alive. Why not, Joran? Pray give us some insight into the workings of your marvelous mind.

(You know what I think, of course … this one sole comment was meant to steer people’s minds away from the alternative … that she IS still alive, or at least was when she was taken off Aruba with Joran’s knowledge. But never mind.)

Anita talking about closure and moving on … pray tell, Madam, why don’t you ask the dear little sporter about what he sent to the Greta vS blog … someday I’ll tell what really happened, but not now?

Joran, good action, I would have reacted the same way!!

Somebody is innocent until proven guilty. If Peter de Vries, crime reporter, keeps accusing Joran over and over, and even stalking him on other occasions, than it is absolutly logical you at least throw half that glass of wine in his face. He is just a kid… It shows me that he is innocent since his anger towards Peter was genuine. If he knows more or holding something back, the satisfaction that Peter can’t prove Joran guilty would have been enough for Joran. He than wouldn’t have such an urge for revenge on Peter!

After Joran throws half a glass of wine to Peter, a woman (employee or the wife of Peter?) appears on the set and takes a glass also and throws it at Joran. She than says sarcasticly to poor Joran’s mother: “Well, you raised that (thing) very well!” . What an attitude! While she did exactly the same thing to Joran!

An other option is: Maybe the hotel business in Venezuela is jealous of Aruba’s success and sent some criminals to Aruba, 30 minutes by speedboat, to kidnap a tourist, hoping to harm Aruba’s reputation, so that tourists might choose for nearby Isla Margherita (Venezuela) instead… I also heard something that Venezuela still claims Aruba should be part of Venezuela…

I have not posted in quite some time, but I do follow daily each and every comment, in fact many times a day. Since day one I have followed the this case. Like many of you I carry Natalee in my heart and think of her all the time. I am in awe of Klass, Tom, Red and the Monkeys that dedicate their time and efforts to get justice for Natalee. The reason I decided to comment tonight is because I watched the video of Mr. De Vries speaking to Joran and his parents. It made me sick to watch their body language, and especially Jorans. It made my blood boil to watch them in action spewing their lies. I come back to the Monkeys blog and see it appears Joran made a comment. No doubt in my mind what a mentally disturbed animal he is. I love you all on this blog. You do make a difference, and obviously Joran reads what we and the world think of his sorry, sick, demented a$$. I feel in my heart of hearts he must be accountable for his dirty deeds, and Natalee and her family must have justice. The job our heroes on the Persistence are doing makes me cry, and it is my greatest hope they find our Nat and bring her home. Keep up the good work Monkeys. Joran you are one worthless piece of crap. By the way Joran how do you sleep at night?

Former Holloway Suspect Tosses Wine in Face of Reporter on TV Show
      Saturday, January 12, 2008

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — A former suspect in the disappearance of U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba threw wine in the face of a crime reporter after they appeared together on a Dutch television program, local media reported.

Joran van der Sloot appeared on the late-night talk show Pauw & Witteman on Friday in what was billed as his last television interview about the case. Aruban prosecutors have said they don’t have enough evidence to charge him with a crime, though he remains a “person of interest” in what is now a cold case.

Van der Sloot, who denies any wrongdoing, appeared relaxed throughout the TV appearance, despite remarks from crime reporter Peter R. De Vries challenging his honesty.

At the end of the program Van der Sloot and De Vries had a testy exchange about whether De Vries would apologize if evidence exonerating Van der Sloot came to light.

The live show ended, but NOS radio news reported Saturday that moments later, Van der Sloot threw a glass of wine in De Vries’ face.

The incident was captured on the show’s cameras and photos taken by members of the studio audience are circulating on Dutch web sites.

“This says something about Joran, of course,” De Vries said in an interview with NOS radio broadcast Saturday.

“He doesn’t have complete control over his behavior.”

Show host Paul Witteman said Joran’s action was “incomprehensible and incredibly stupid” because they undermine his credibility.

Holloway went missing May 30, 2005, hours before she was to return home to Mountain Brook, Alabama. She was on the final night of her school graduation trip to the island.

Van der Sloot and two other former suspects, brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, were seen leaving a bar with Holloway on the night of her disappearance.

They were questioned early in the investigation and again late last year before being released. All three deny involvement in Holloway’s disappearance.

Prosecutors now say they cannot prove a crime was committed without a body, but that they believe Holloway is dead.

Extensive searches of the island turned up no trace of Holloway, who was 18 at the time of her disappearance.

Authorities in Aruba say the case against the three could be reopened if additional evidence surfaces. But if they were to go to trial now with virtually no hope of guilty verdicts, they would lose the opportunity to try them later if strong evidence emerges.

    97. Richard on January 13th, 2008 10:21 am

Show host Paul Witteman said Joran’s action was “incomprehensible and incredibly stupid” because they undermine his credibility.

      xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Maybe so … but look at all the other incredibly stupid things that J2K have done on Aruba since day one, including the concoction of a story that Beth Twitty exploded. (Good for the two security guards that she did, because otherwise they’d be in jail and the Natalee case would be ‘solved’.)

And what has been accomplished against them under the magnificent Dutch/Aruban legal system? Not one thing.

Moral is: anything goes on Aruba. Would you risk your life there, or those of your loved ones?

Boycott Aruba. It’s only common sense.

Joran was never asked the hard questions. Follow-up to lame excuses and lies were never really put to him, especially “on camera” where the public could really see him in action. He’s gotten away with his lies, more lies, and more lies. Supposedly, video tapes were made of his interrogations in Aruba, but none have ever been made available. I guess they disappeared, along with all the other statements. Now, faced with some hard questions, he reacts with throwing wine in someone’s face? Joran has big, big anger mangement problems. If he could not take the heat of Peter’s questioning, imagine how he would react to really hard interrogations by seasoned interrogators. He would fold in a minute – so would his father – so would his mother – so would the Kalpoe brothers – so would the Kalpoe brother’s mother. Watch out Deepak – the Van Der Sloots are getting ready to dump this whole case on your skinny shoulders. If they don’t, whatever evidence you hold over them will disappear with you – when you do.

    103. Maggie on January 13th, 2008 3:13 pm

Anita sounds like Paul Reynolds might think they need to investigate the investigation also.

With me now is Natalee’s uncle Paul Reynolds.

Paul, thank you so much for being with us.

I don’t want to talk about this Dutch, Aruban newspaper report. What I do want to talk about is what you and the family were told by authorities. Did they ever tell you, did any government authorities ever tell you that there was a confession in this case regarding Natalee?

PAUL REYNOLDS, UNCLE OF NATALEE HOLLOWAY: I know that my sister had a meeting with the FBI June 10, Friday. And from that meeting, she became convinced that Natalee was no longer alive. She called her mother and told her that. And our family was—was—began the grieving process.

You know, we were told the report would come out the next day. Later that night, we saw the reports that confessions had been made, that something bad had happened. Shortly thereafter, it was retracted. The next morning, there was a report that said Natalee was confirmed dead. And these reports came from the deputy commissioner. They came from the spokesperson from the Ministry of Justice.

And then, all of a sudden, these statements and these confessions just disappeared.

SCARBOROUGH: And wait a second. I mean, these confessions were so rock solid that you actually had the FBI coming to you, coming to your family, Natalee’s family, saying, we are sorry to tell you this, but there has been a confession. One of these boys has confessed, and Natalee is no longer alive.

How do you pull something like that back off the table? Have you had or has your sister had or has anybody in the family had any explanation from Aruban officials whatever happened to this confession, where they buried it?

REYNOLDS: I am not aware of any follow-up information. You know, this seemed to disappear from sight, these confessions did.

At the time, we thought that because the investigation is kept secret, we thought it was ongoing, and maybe they just didn’t want to release it officially at that time. But, as we see that the appeals, the hearings are showing there’s no evidence, but yet we have these confessions, it doesn’t make any sense. It’s as if they are being hidden or taken away.

SCARBOROUGH: You know, you said—talked about June the 10th. That’s when you all were told that the confession had been made, and you said that the family actually started a grieving process. What did the family do?

REYNOLDS: You know, grieving is—it’s a difficult process. We were all notified. We exchanged phone calls, making sure everyone in the family was notified. I even had to tell my children, very upsetting to them, very upsetting to all of us.

SCARBOROUGH: Wait, Paul. Are you telling me, back on June the 10th, you told your children, based on the confession of one of these—these punks that took Natalee away from the bar, that Natalee was dead? This was over a month ago. You had to break it to your family, the entire family, Natalee’s entire family, because of the confessions, knew that she was dead, and yet here we are over a month later, and they are still claiming they don’t have enough evidence to nail these guys?

      REYNOLDS: That’s absolutely correct.

You know, the FBI had informed my sister based on the initial interrogations that that was their belief. That information was given to our family. And it’s just—it’s a very difficult thing to go through. Grieving should only be a process you have to go through one time.

SCARBOROUGH: And, you know, Paul, despite that, a lot of legal experts that I have been talking to over the past 24, 48 hours are saying they believe it is possible that van der Sloot may walk.

When—when this top-secret process—and, of course, now maybe we understand why the process is so top-secret, because there’s obviously so much favoritism down in Aruba, that they want to be able to bury confessions, if they need to do that. They want to be able to play favorites. You have got a police chief report, from all reports, from what we understand, very, very close.

Government officials have told me, as well as you, that this police chief is best friends with the van der Sloots. I mean, and yet, we are hearing on Thursday—there’s the police chief right there. We are hearing on Thursday by a lot of people that van der Sloot may walk because of the top-secret hearing that was held today.

Is there anything you all can do about it if they decide to let him go?

REYNOLDS: Well, we feel there are numerous problems with the investigation that question his credibility, you know, the—not taking the suspects into custody, the disappearing confessions, refusal to use the assistance of the FBI, not working with EquuSearch, keeping them from the van der Sloot property.

There are so many questions. We feel that the authorities need to bring in an outside investigation to make sure and bring back credibility to this investigation, this process, and let us know what happened.
