Far be it from anyone saying that Rudy Croes is not quick on the draw. It has only taken nearly 20 months for Rudy Croes to admit the obvious … The Natalee Holloway case has caused enormous damage to the tourism and economy of Aruba. 
At least someone has admitted it rather than the ridiculous spin that the Aruba economy is perfectly fine. Let us not forget that Prime Minister Nelson Oduber declared 2006 a productive year in Aruba.
However, let’s just clarify what that statement really means. If Rudy Croes blames the Natalee Holloway case for being the reason why Aruba finds itself in the predicament they are then what caused the case in the first place? The fact that Aruba finds itself still dealing with this issue is because of Aruba. No more no less. All the finger pointing toward the media or Natalee’s family just infuriates people even further.
It was the nepotism and cronyism that caused the damage to Aruba’s economy. Why was this case not handled in the same manner other cases would have been? Why were three suspects last seen with Natalee Holloway treated differently than two black security guards?
The fact of the matter is that we have reported on and followed hundreds of missing person cases that have had similar if not the exact same circumstances as the Natalee Holloway disappearance that have been solved. Some in only a matter of days. Not in Aruba. In essence, Aruban officials need to look no further than themselves as to who is responsible for their economic plight. They can look in the mirror and at three suspects for their woes

I believe that the reason the Natalee Holloway case has not been solved is because the implications reach far beyond the enormous hit to the Aruban economy through lost tourist dollars.
I contend if Joran or Paulus Van der Sloot were to be implicated in the events of that fateful morning …. corruption involving those at all levels of the Aruban/Dutch administrations …. which encompasses prostitution, gambling, money laundering, pornography and drugs …. would be exposed.

ORANJESTAD (AAN): Some time ago DIARIO found information regarding the manager of the Holiday Inn’s Excelsior Casino and people have been calling out to ask how a figure with a criminal past of such an extent can be active in the casino industry of Aruba.
His name? Michael Posner, owner (or one of the owners) of the Brickel Hotel situated in front of the big hotels in Malmok. In the past he was arrested in the state of Illinois for violation of the Ricco Act (racketeering) and because he was also involved in the world of prostitution.
He was condemned to 10 years in prison, but apparently he served 8 out of the 10 years. He appealed his case and lost the appeal! After he was released he was on parole for 5 years. His name is also mentioned as an associate of a notorious family.
DIARIO knows that the government is at the height of such people, and asks HOW HE CAN BE ACTIVE IN THE CASINO INDUSTRY OF ARUBA? HOW DID HE FIND A PERMIT TO WORK IN THIS BRANCH WITH THE BACKGROUND THAT HE HAS? HOW HAS THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE STILL NOT TAKEN ACTION AGAINST HIM. Now that his criminal past is known, what is the government waiting for to take him out of Aruba?

Is this change going to make a difference in the evidence presented to the judges or is it far too late to even consider an actual case being brought to trial? Guess time will tell.

It is reported that Karin Janssen, the chief public prosecutor of Aruba, has left the island upon the expiration of her employment contract and has returned to the Netherlands.
This is the same Karin Janssen who, about a year ago, said “fireworks” were imminent in the case of Natalee Holloway, an American who vanished on Aruba on May 30, 2005.
It is not surprising, given Aruba’s litany of promises that turn out to be lies and pledges that are never carried out, that yet another statement by an Aruban official turned out to be empty. After all, Karin Janssen did once say that “we are getting the picture of the puzzle,” and said that it was possible to prosecute a case even in the absence of a body.
Unfortunately, neither those statements nor any other have urged Aruba to take action.
I am taking the presumption of writing to urge upon Your Majesty my sincere belief that only determined action by your government now offers a possibility of solving this case.
In 2005, a team of Dutch detectives visited Aruba and said they were certain that Joran van der Sloot knew what happened to Natalee Holloway. In August 2006, Aruba asked your law enforcement authorities to take over the investigation. Dutch agents went to Aruba, collected documents, and returned home. Since then, there has been only silence.
It would be tedious to list all of the evidence that points to the complicity of at least some members of Aruban government and law enforcement personnel in a conspiracy to shield certain persons from prosecution and punishment. Allow me to cite some key items here:
–The lead investigator at the outset of the case, Jan van der Straaten, was a personal friend of Paulus van der Sloot, the father of one of the three main suspects.
–Prosecutor Karin Janssen delayed arresting the three main suspects, the persons last seen with Natalee Holloway, even as two security guards were arrested with no evidence against them other than accusations by the main suspects, who later recanted them.
–Although Dutch law stipulates that lying as a witness is a crime that bears a penalty, the many lies of the three main suspects and of their acquaintances were never prosecuted.
–The van der Sloot home, residence of a key suspect, was not searched for about three weeks, though the homes of the security guard ‘suspects’ were searched upon their arrest.
–When the van der Sloot home finally was searched, Judge Robert Wit, who was there, prohibited Aruban police from executing the terms of their warrant, which allowed a full search of the house and property, limiting the search to Joran van der Sloot’s apartment.
–Paulus van der Sloot was allowed to review and edit his son’s initial statement to police and had access to police files while the belated investigation was proceeding.
–Despite the many contradictions in the testimony of the three main suspects and of their acquaintances, a panel of judges ruled that the three could not be questioned further except on a voluntary basis. A subsequent pledge by Aruban spokesman Steve Cohen that Joran van der Sloot would be re-interrogated was never carried out.
Your Majesty, these are but a few of the issues that have perplexed and angered the American public. More than a year and a half after Natalee Holloway vanished in Aruba, her family remain uninformed as to her fate. Aruba seems indifferent to this injustice.
It is my unpleasant duty further to inform Your Majesty that this month another American tourist has gone missing in the Netherlands Antilles island of Saba. It is reported that officials of that island refused to allow missing-person posters to be displayed, citing fears of an adverse impact on tourism. This case remains unsolved as I write, but the indifference indicated by the island’s stance is highly suggestive of Aruba.
Finally, may I remind Your Majesty that the case of Amy Bradley, an American believed to have been kidnapped in March 1998 from a cruise ship docked at port in Curacao, also is unsolved despite continued reports of sightings of her in apparent situations of duress.
No American now expects honesty, integrity, or impartiality from Aruba’s government. We therefore must implore Your Majesty to ensure that your government will take active measures. It is a source of great disappointment that nothing but silence has been heard from the Dutch investigators, and has led to suspicions that no real action is planned.
Your Majesty is aware of the courage displayed by Lamoral, Count of Egmont, who to his cost defied Spanish tyranny and championed the spirit of liberty. Likewise, the families of Amy Bradley and Natalee Holloway have been pursuing justice, and defying modern tyranny, in an area of the world where Your Majesty wields extensive influence.
May I conclude this letter by beseeching Your Majesty to instruct your government also to defy the tyranny and injustice exemplified by Aruban action and inaction, and to ensure that our two peoples will stand unified in our determination that justice be done.

Joran Van der Sloot is a serial rapist and murderer.
Serial killers start out with killing dogs then move on to humans. Known fact. He will strike again one day.
hmmm Joran Van der Sloots girlfriend, Melody, broke up with him. He saw her with her new boyfriend crossing the street hand in hand. Next day or so Natalee ends up missing and presumed dead. Recently Joran Van der Sloots new girlfriend broke up with him. Authorities need to keep a close eye on Joran Van der Sloot. We wouldn’t want another accident to happen.
Joran Van der Sloot is not innocent of murder. He not only helped in Natalee’s demise he also took another life when he was much younger. Yet another water incodent. While on a fieldtrip with his classmates at age 12 or younger, he got mad at one of the other children. He waited for no one to be around and pushed this child into the water. Just stood there and watched the child drown. When others came back looking for him Joran Van der Sloot pretended to be upset and started to cry saying he tried to help him but he drowned. Everyone felt sorry for Joran Van der Sloot because he was just a child. From my understandings, Joran Van der Sloot did this on purpose, with malice, because he was mad at his classmate. It was said to have been an accident and no further action was taken.
Does this sound familar? Pushing a chollar off a bridge into the water because he was mad at him? Age 16 was when Joran Van der Sloot engaged in this violent and hostile action towards a chollar. Was it deemed an accident too?
I wonder if Joran Van der Sloot did the same to Natalee. She refused his advances and drowned her then had help disposing of her body, claiming it was an accident, once again. Paulus Van der Sloot has a lot of experiance in defending his sons violent actions. No wonder he was placed in his own little shake of doom.

I’ve written to George a number of times, but nary a reply. Ditto with Rice. About the only replies I ever got were one from the Dutch prime minister (I wrote two letters to him and he referred to them both … I was floored … it sounded like he’d actually read them) and one letter from Aruba Tourism Authority.
Oh, yeah … I got one letter from some guy in Aruba who said he was a “choller” (drug addict) who knew what happened. I sent that on to John Q. Kelly.
Remember, folks, Aruba is coming to Boston in March to host some gala thing at the Boston Globe tourism festival. Rumor has it that Nelson Oduber will be there.

Peter De Vries announced on his show from his investigation on Aruba about Joran Van der Sloot pushing the chollar off the bridge when he was 16 yrs old. Nothing done about it. Claimed the chollar was bothering them and made Joran mad.
If I had access to the Obits in Aruba from back in the early to mid 90s I’d be looking up any and all children living in Aruba who drowned and from there on try to get Peter De Vries to look into that also. Or a private investigator on the very young child Joran Van der Sloot pushed into the water and caused to drown. If they didn’t remove all that info from their records yet. Or the family of the child hasn’t moved off of that sick island yet.

JusticeforNatalee, Balkanende’s party was returned to office, but it was a very narrow thing. Judging from what I’ve read, the Dutch government is in a situation where nobody seems to have a clear voter endorsement; the situation is fragmented. One might say, Balkanized.
Don’t know how much that matters, though.
In re Posner: we all know that the Caribbean is rife with banks that in essence are there to launder drug money. Moving cash through casinos is another mob tactic.
So, by the way, is the emphasis on tourist businesses. Why? They bring in a lot of cash, and allow for opportunities to launder money.
One thing I meant to include in that letter but forgot:
Joran van der Sloot sent an e-mail to Greta van Susteren saying that “someday, but not now” he would tell everything that “really” happened that night. I think he said that night “on the beach,” but few people now believe they ever took Natalee to the beach. Whatever the case, the e-mail was printed on her blog.
And recently, Paulus van der Sloot said he wasn’t telling everything that he knew about the case because to do so would hurt some people. Whether that’s the case, or whether it’s a veiled threat (actually, I think it’s pretty obvious), I can’t say.
But these comments both suggest perjury to me. The mere fact that they can make them and, once again, Aruba sits back and does nothing is indicative to me that something is not well in the tropical paradise of Aruba.

Thought I’d post this article here as well as in the relevant (Missouri) forum. Remember Tanya Kach? I confess that I didn’t … but she had, according to this, run away at age 14 with an older security guard. At some point her status apparently evolved to that of hostage, and she was missing for TEN YEARS.
None of us can fathom the psychological factors at work, though the idea that threats can cow someone is clear enough.
Just more food for thought, perhaps, in the cases of Natalee Holloway and Amy Bradley.
Tanya Kach Weighs In On Missouri Kidnapping Cases
(KDKA) McKEESPORT Last week two Missouri boys were found alive after being kidnapped by the same man and for one local woman relating to this story is very easy.
Ben Ownby, 13, was missing for four days while Shawn Hornbeck, had been gone for four years.
Charged in the boys kidnapping is 42-year-old Michael Devlin.
One local woman can connect with this story after she was allegedly held against her will for a decade.
Tanya Kach was just 14-years-old when she ran away with Thomas Hose, a security guard at her school who allegedly held her against her will in a bedroom of a McKeesport home.
“Both seem to have been held psychologically captive as opposed to more physically restrained,” Lawrence Fisher, Kach’s attorney says.
After returning to her family nearly a year ago Kach has been undergoing therapy.
Fisher says she has been paying close attention to the Missouri case.
“She said ‘My heart goes out to that boy I know exactly what he’s going through,’” he reports.
He says Kach doesn’t find it hard to believe that Hornbeck never tried to escape his captors since psychological control is factored into the case.
“She was psychologically tortured,” Fisher says. “She was told that if she left she’d be killed and she reasonably believed that Hose would do that to her.”
Fisher says that like Kach, the boys in Missouri will have major adjustment to make once the constant media coverage ends.
“Tanya has her GED, she has her driver’s license and tomorrow she begins college,” he adds. “That’s great, great strides, on the other hand she remains in therapy and remains with some difficulty adjusting to this life that she hasn’t known for 10 years.”

So, it appears that someone has finally listened to MD with regard to voiding/reversing judgements made to protect and insulate Paulus from his crimes.
The biggest problem, and how this all fits into Aruba’s cover-up, is that the clock is ticking towards May 30th, 2007, when all suspects will be released.
February 6th will be when the decision is made. That only unpeels the first CONFLICT OF INTEREST judgement — They then need to get the judgement that cleared Paulus as the suspect lifted. You have to actually look at the legal reason for why Paulus filed the lawsuit and why Paulus’ black robed friends protected him.
As I understand Dutch law, when the courts gave Paulus his $30k award, it was not about the money.
What it really was about was placing another peel on the onion and distancing Paulus from his crimes.
Now, to clean up this mess, the $30k award must be reversed….then, the “No Longer a Suspect” judgement becomes the next target….and will take several months.
What Paulus (with the help of his friends) has created a ‘time delay’ for getting to the bottom of this case. With May 30th quickly approaching, it is highly unlikely that Aruba will reverse both of these biased decisions before they declare the case closed and release all suspects from suspicion.
It is sort of like our “Double Jeopardy”. Paulus cannot be pulled back into his crimes because the courts have already ruled he isn’t a suspect. His home can’t be searched, he can’t be hassled.
The only way to solve this whole case is to have all judgements VOIDED/REVERSED and Paulus gets brought in. They can only do this by pointing out the OVERWHELMING CONFLICT OF INTEREST….which, so far, no one has the guts to do. md

Just because DeVries hasn’t said anything about it yet, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I believe you. There are lots of Arubans that know little about the case, that think that Natalee drowned… and there are many that say that we need to look at the police when we speak of a cover-up.
They live there! They know the history of Joran as well as the history of their police department. Perhaps, they are right about both.

I agree with you. The point that you make about the onion. Paulus, educated in law, knows that the more mistakes that are made by the court, the harder it is to get to him.
Paulus, being aware of the fact that Karin Janssen was accusing him of interfering with the investigation, filed this lawsuit against the government in retaliation and knew that his black-robed friends would back him.
So, the court’s opinion is, for the time being, that Paulus did NOT interfere with the prosecution; but rather that he was falsely accused and detained. The opinion, given by the court, boiled down to the Aruban courts giving him a “get out of jail free” card.
How can the People of Aruba, then file “OBSTRUCTION” charges against Paulus if this decision stands?
Paulus, knowing the legal system and how it works, covered his ass by filing his lawsuit against the Aruban authorities, thereby making it impossible for them to file any injunctions against him in the future. That is why it is so important that the case be reviewed and over-turned.
The Dutch have given their opinion when they said that they find that Paulus was treated with preference and it is my guess that the judgement that he got against Aruba will be over-ruled by a higher court.
For me, knowing that the wheels of justice turn very slowly, I am hopeful.
Folks, Red and Tom are spot-on about the real cause of this loss of tourism. The problem is, the Aruban people seem to have trouble understanding that the reason the investigation is in such sorry shape is directly due to the MEP not allowing competent, impartial, honest investigators to handle the case from Day One.
I feel that as long as the MEP is in power, there will be no answers in Natalee’s case. Barring the Netehrlands taking over the whole island by force (fat chance given that license for crime called Status Aparte), nobody but the Aruban people can oust the MEP or force them to give us what we demand.
We need to figure out how to get this message to Joe Aruban.
I have been to Aruba, I will never go there again, they have absolutely no regard for human life. My vacation dollars will be spent in Hawaii from now on . . .

Nothing they say has any logic, because it didn’t happen. They’ve all been proven repeatedly to be liars.

Are you saying that these drug dealers use the casino to
launder their money? In other words, the casino reports the drug money as money taken in from people’s losses at the black jack tables when in fact, the money is drug money
derived from illegal sources? Then what? Does the drug
dealer receive his cut of the money that is being laundered
as a line of credit and/or as gambling winnings?

i just read on the net about Laura Bush attending a conference on missing & exploited children and even though
John Walsh’s name was mentioned, there was no mention about Natalee Holloway or the dangers of traveling out of country.
i know she knows about the case and it would have been a perfect time to bring up this case in another country.
i just hope our country was serious about posting a travel advisory to the Carribean area and especially Aruba.
