AVP wants more investments in tourism (Dutch version below). The only investment that will
help Aruba’s “black eye” abroad is to personally invest into the truth of what happened to Natalee Holloway and to make sure cronyism never occurs again if harm comes to a tourist. Other than that, what difference does it make what Aruba spends to create a facade?
ORANJESTAD – we have been very disappointed concerning the way the Oduber cabinet minimizes the crisis situation in tourism. Tourism from the United States has decreased and last year approximately 100,000 less tourists came. Worrisome is that studies of Aruba Tourism show the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), that the image of Aruba is considerably damaged abroad. That is the opinion of Mike Eman, leader of AVP, after a three day debate concerning the state of the budget of the ministry of tourism and transport.

I’ve asked myself alittle over a year now as have many of you the 64 thousand dollar question. WHY IN THE HELL are officals willing to sacrifice the livelyhood & reputation(before Natalee it seemed to be ok) of the ENTIRE island for these 3 punks??? Van Stratten is Paul’s friend & J’s god father & in a position to derail the investigation which i totally believe he did. BUT WHY is Oduber going along with this??? I could not understand it until i saw the pic posted here a couple of months ago of Oduber’s sons with bandanna’s tied arround their heads & flashing gang signs like the rest of the pimp(les). Same thing with Van der Stratten, i can’t believe it took over a year to discover he has a son in this age group also. Now i’m not saying these well kept secret sons are involved but if they are it answers the biggest question i’ve had of why Oduber doesn’t save the island.
How can we find out more about these guys & their whereabouts on May 30, 2005?
they may or may not have been involved with natalee, but you might win some cash if you bet on them being involved with similar activities that they all know about and will implicate each other in if push comes to shove.

I’ve wondered the same thing mayan_moons and have come to the conclusion that all these tourism specialists in Aruba are just shills paid by the Aruban taxpayer dollar much like zombies in the corporate world. They can’t change the corporate direction so they continue to throw out these ideas they think will patch things up until the ship sinks and they are let go. None of the shills have the authority to say hey, “we aren’t trashing anymore money on tourism promotion, we’re damaged goods, until we show the world we’re serious about protecting our tourists, we need to go into damage control, take the murdering – raping VanDerSloots down for the crime they committed on Natalee Holloway, then and only then will tourists view Aruba as a safe place to visit. Otherwise it’s nothing more than a very dangerous place for the unsuspecting. It’s Buyer Beware!
Where are the top dutch cops? What is wrong with the Aruban’s and Dutch? Invest in tourism, they are only fooling themselves if that. People are getting killed left and right, dismemberments, rapes in schools with no police action.

I sold my timeshare in early 2006 after 16 years, and am glad I did. Frankly, I wouldn’t spend another week in Aruba if it was for FREE. Aruba is now on my list of things/places that I personally avoid. Thousands and thousands of others have the same opinion and have or will act accordingly.
I am gratified to see absolutely NONE of the regular Travel Agency ads in the N.Y. Sunday newspapers, week after week, offering ads or packages for Aruba. Instead, they are pushing the Virgin Isl, Bahamas, and the usual cast of other Carribean destinations. Aruba is on EVERYONE’s shit list.
What can I say,that I haven’t already said.These boys are untouchable.They could confess and they still wouldn’t convict them. It’ amazing.This is easily the most corrupt place in the world,thats right,they are no diffrent than their neighbor Venezuela.Who in their right mind would visit this awful place.I discourage travel to Aruba whenever I can.If the subject comes up,I am quick to support Beth and her efforts to promote Safe Travels for our young people.
I can only imagine how this has changed Beth’s life. On second thought I don’t think I can. Host ( Jeroen Pauw): Ok, Twan, so there are different declarations. What did Joran say in his second declaration?
Reporter (Twan Huys): Very simple, Jeroen, in his first declaration, he has said that, indeed, that he went, together with his two friends and Natalee, to the beach and that, that night, deep in the night, actually in the morning, all of them went back to the Holiday Inn hotel, where she was staying, and dropped her off there. That story is incorrect. That story, as told, has been retracted by Joran and also by his both friends, who are also still stuck [in jail]. He did that as soon as he was arrested and was interrogated by the police. He also never told the story as he told to the police to his parents. His declaration now is that he left Natalee alone on the beach, and then went home by himself, and that his two friends were nowhere near that. That is the second version, and until now Joran holds on to that, under severe police interrogation.
Host ( Jeroen Pauw): Any idea how Natalee’s parents will react if they will see this interview, between you and the parents of Joran?
Reporter (Twan Huys): I have, like I said to you in the broadcast of yesterday, trodded along the past two days with the parents of Natalee, at least with her mother and stepfather. They are convinced that the son, Joran, and the father, Paul, are the key to finding their daughter back, and I think they will not be convinced by the interview. But they have not seen it, because we just recorded it. Anyway, I asked Paul van der Sloot, what he thinks of the fact that the parents of Natalee are convinced that the answer to all their questions are with the Van der Sloot family .
Paulus van der Sloot: I have also spoken with the mother and I think it is a pity that, apparently, I have not been able to convince her that that is not the case. During that conversation, I had the feeling I had a reasonable contact with her and I tried to make it clear that the key is not with us, but, apparently, she didn’t pick it up that way.
Reporter (Twan Huys): Can you imagine the suspicion from them after the first declaration of Joran was incorrect? And that in there, other things were said than what really happened?
Paulus van der Sloot: Yes, because Joran did not tell the truth immediately, he has brought himself in a cumbersome position, as a result of which, his later declarations can be doubted. He brought himself into that position, yes. Possibly, he can give an explanation why he changed his declaration, but that is the difficult position that he is in.

1. I had placed my socks in my shoes and walked with my shoes in my hand further on the beach. Natalee and myself stood for a short while at the waters edge and kissed. At that moment in time Natalee told me that she liked Aruba. She also said to me that she wanted to see sharks. I told her that there were no sharks around Aruba. (Joran June 14th, on the beach at the Marriot)
2.When the girl saw persons in the group, she opened the window and she greeted them. In the car, the white blonde said girl said to Joran that they should go to the NORTH SIDE OF ARUBA to see sharks. Deepak decided to drive to the North side of Aruba so that the girl could see sharks. (Satish May 31st)
3. I told Deepak to drive to the Lighthouse because Natalee had said to me that she wanted to see sharks. I had told Natalee that there were no sharks but she insisted that she had seen sharks already.AT NO POINT HAD NATALEE SAID TO ME THAT SHE WANTED TO GO TO THE NORTH COAST. We were driving on the boulevard where the gas station is when the girl said she wanted to go see the sharks in the vicinity of the “lighthouse”. Joran told the girl that there were no shark in the vicinity of the “lighthouse”. (Satish June 11th)
5.I drove on until we got to the intersection where I had last seen her friends. When we arrived there I saw that they were no longer there. I asked Joran what were were going to do now. The girl said at some point something about “Sharks” and “Lighthouse”. That is what I had heard. Joran then said “Lighthouse”. I knew at that moment that I assumed she wanted to see the “Lighthouse”. I hadn’t thought anything else. I drove into the direction of the “Lighthouse” with a speed of between seventy to eighty kilometers an hour.

Yup they are right – Natalee Hollway’s parents will certainly never forget their daughter’s vacation to Aruba. Shame on United for increasing their marketing efforts to sell tickets to Aruba. I know several people have written to them to stop flying there. Obviously they don’t listen very well.
Also isn’t Occidental the resort that keeps putting out the same food day after day? I wouldn’t go if they gave me a free trip. OK, I’m done ranting. Feel better now.

I posted this the other day, but it disappeared.
I get free vacations at RCI resorts. They are last minute deals where RCI Resorts post openings for their resorts. These deals get posted to a website, and then I can choose.
The site is chock full of Aruba resorts…but rather than saying “Aruba”, they are calling it the “Dutch Antilles”.
The interesting thing is, they already know that they are going to have huge vacancies, so they are posting these for many weeks out. I still can’t get into other caribbean resorts yet, but if I wanted to go to Aruba….no problem.
They are getting desperate down there!
For my 20th anniversary I am heading to the Caribbean….I won’t be heading to Aruba…also known as the “Dutch Antilles”. md

Carpe.. I have no idea what religion Straten is. I didn’t even know the VDS’s were Jewish.. That makes sense now if so, that he would make a Hitler comment. This just reinforces the fact that Aruba is a dangerous place for Americans to visit. The government looks at tourists as a mere commodity. The fact that tourists are getting killed in Aruba is not important to them. They think it something that advertising can cure. Any nation with decent core values would be concerned about the safety of foreigners on their soil. Not the Arubans, though. They don’t like us. They only want our money. If we should die there, it isn’t their concern.
JoeM was on Donny Deutsch’s show about a week ago and at the end of he talked about Natalee’s case. He hasn’t changed his feelings or opinions on this case. He isn’t allowed in Aruba.. sure is strange he isn’t, but Michael Posner is.

Kelmel – a bunch of us concerned people have started a letter campaign to United. They are getting bombarded with our concerns about cutting back service to Aruba. SO, it’s not just a few people. In fact it’s probably dozens by now. On the Blogs for Natalee site, there was a thread about this and there were all kinds of posters who participated. They are simply ignoring us in favor of trying to keep their profits up. It’s corporate greed, pure and simple. United doesn’t care about its passengers – just as the people of Aruba see tourists as disposable. We’ll see what they both have to say when the numbers keep declining, though.

It was reported last year that JOEM was not allowed in Aruba because he has a felony record. I support JoeM also in his efforts. He made a mistake, admitted to it and apologized, did his time and has since done many good things to help others. The cops were looking for Greta for knocking on the Kalpoes door and saying Nadira.. It was reported the Kalpoes said she was yelling Killer. Now, I don’t agree with Greta sometimes, but I in no way believe she was yelling Killer at the Kalpoes door.
However after what and who we’ve seen come and go to Aruba..that’s laughable they would block him and let in Posner . Dave said there are some good cops down there. I will take his word for it. We know why they weren’t allowed on Natalee’s case.

sounds like Joran, he talks about beating the crap out of people… but in reality the only people he can beat up are vulnerable females… joran loves the talk, but the only thing he can deliver on is sweat and escapism, it reminds me a lot of his coward rapist liar of a dad running from news crews.
