When will we know something more?

    4. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 12:09 pm

I wish this whole situation would just be resolved. I can’t even begin to imagine what this has been like for her parents.

    5. Tom on June 11th, 2005 12:10 pm

sorry. will fix it thank for the heads up

      Ron, I do not know

      boy this is fluid

    6. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:13 pm

      FYI:

Under Dutch law you are guilty until proven innocent…….
Burden of proof lies on the defense and not on the prosecution

unlike in the states, the prosecution doesn’t have to prove that someone is guilty…..
It is the defense that has to prove that someone is innocent….

    7. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 12:14 pm

I really thought there would be much more information at this point. I understand they are trying to conduct and protect an investigation, but I really thought we would know more by now.

    8. RunningFromArlene on June 11th, 2005 12:14 pm

A.P. is again reporting that one of the men who took her to the beach did indeed admit to killing her…

    9. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:15 pm

i dont buy this accidental bs one bit. an accident gets reported not covered up…

    10. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:16 pm

If it were an accident, why didn’t they come out with it right away?

    11. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:17 pm

if someone admitted it. why no search? according to joran s mother they had a heart to heart and he said he’ s innocent and eveything would come out.. maybe it is…
he s still creepy and slimy…

    12. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:17 pm

Running, where did you hear this?? nothing on AP website…… pls let know

    13. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:19 pm

I doubt whether this was an accident. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how a highly charged sexual situation devolves into violence. One or more of those kids wanted more from the girl than she wanted to give; hence the incident.

    14. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:19 pm

during the earlier news break/press conf, the gov offical said they have reach a crucial point in the investagation… i can only hope.. im still sticking to my notion that she is either dead or alive at the abandoned town near kia…

    15. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:21 pm

They know people saw Natalee leave with them…..I think it’s acidental……
Boys freaked out….panic…..and did something stupid and VERY wrong….

The fact that they tried to conceal it and act cynical about it is (for me) the real crime here…..

    16. J.C. on June 11th, 2005 12:24 pm

Possibly a silly question, but aren’t there a lot of caves near the beaches in Aruba? Are they checking in there?

    17. Just Wondering on June 11th, 2005 12:24 pm

Did you get a chance to see those pictures of Joran(the prime suspect) on webshots.com?
They were on a post from Thursday.
Some were from him at Carlos’. I imagine this is where Holly Brown, Natalee’friend who was on the trip (quoted by AP and FOX) as saying they saw pictures of him from a week before Natalee disappeared wearing the same clothes that he had on the night Natalee disappeared. Holly characterized him as “weird”.

Also there was a picture of him with a leash around the neck of a friend ( I guess) at a party. It was a guy with no shirt on. I imagine they doing an Abu Ghraib type of re-enactment…I agree with Holly………WEIRD.

    18. RunningFromArlene on June 11th, 2005 12:25 pm

whoa… erase my last post…. was a hoax on the new A.P. report… my bad

Breaking – Fox TV Reporting That Suspect Has Confessed To Killing Natalee (Updated)

Is it Joran Andreas Petrus Van Der Sloot? Press conference this afternoon should bring an end to the speculation(see previous post).

    21. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:26 pm

      J.C.

The caves are on the other side of the island…..not near the beaches….

But, yes, all caves were searched..

    22. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:27 pm

there are some caves and im sure they are looking…one is called the tunnel of love in a very remote part of the island

    23. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:28 pm

he has admitted it.. this is true?

    24. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:29 pm

      WHOA!

    25. J.C. on June 11th, 2005 12:30 pm

Thanks for the info!! I’ve never been to Aruba, so I have no clue of the landscape. I just have a really bad feeling about the caves and I’m not sure why.

    26. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:31 pm

i was just on the fox site and found nothing..what does this say about the new arrest? does ver der sloot have a brother?

    27. Ben on June 11th, 2005 12:32 pm

he has two brothers i believe

    28. Leila on June 11th, 2005 12:33 pm

NativeLingo, u know the law. It’s more like innocent intill proven quilty. Otherwise they wouldn’t wait with formal charges

    29. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:34 pm

We have a lot of rumors and very few substantiated facts.

    30. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:36 pm

      what are their ages?
could one of his brothers be involved?

    31. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:36 pm

I wonder which one of the three confessed. Maybe one of the brothers flipped on van der sloot?

    32. Ben on June 11th, 2005 12:37 pm

his brother is a 9th grader..doubtful he was involved…more likely it would have been one or two of his shady friends seen in his profile

    33. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:37 pm

Leila, true…what I was trying to point part is the burden of proof ascpect……

    34. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:37 pm

that family is done on aruba … it seems… no jugde for you.. come back one year!

    35. googler on June 11th, 2005 12:38 pm

All his siblings that I know of are younger. The oldest just graduated from 9th grade. I doubt they were involved. Remember that Joran is the youngest of the 3 suspects.

    36. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:38 pm

just wondering if he has a brother about his age 16-19?

    37. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:39 pm

Everything that I have seen on this kid, from his own words on his web site to what other people have to say about him, leads me to believe that he is an A-1 scumbag.

    38. Concerned on June 11th, 2005 12:40 pm

      Rob,
Just wondering…what makes you so interested in the siblings? Why do you suspect their involvement?

    39. Pays Bas on June 11th, 2005 12:40 pm

They are only formally charged on the ‘first’ (Pro forma) day of the trail, until then they are ‘suspects’.

    40. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:41 pm

Maybe the “6th person” arrested was a sibling.

    41. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:42 pm

at this point i suspect everyone… it seems like a long time has past since the fbi got involved… and still no confession…i dont think it would take much to crack a 17 yr old… makes me think he’s protecting someone.. maybe someone close to him

    42. Concerned on June 11th, 2005 12:42 pm

It is my understanding that the sixth arrest is unrelated…just a coincidence. Does anyone know anything different?

    43. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:42 pm

From what I heard, today’s arrest is not related to this case, but then again…..who knows….

    44. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:42 pm

Well, insofar as they were only three, the arrest of a 4th person is sucpicous because, apparently, this 4th person was not at the bar. Perhaps they killed her and then called in this 4th person to help dispose of the body.

    45. googler on June 11th, 2005 12:42 pm

They said where the arrest was made, and I don’t think that’s where Joran lives

    46. Chris Lupu on June 11th, 2005 12:43 pm

the 6th person arrested appeared to onlookers to be in his 20′s

    47. googler on June 11th, 2005 12:44 pm

If the 3 knew they were being watched by the police, then getting someone else involved to deal with discoverable evidence would make sense

    48. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:44 pm

Rob, FBI got involved after 48 hours, and has been involved ever since….

    49. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:45 pm

fox says the lastest is coming up in a minute.. i ll check and be right back…

    50. Concerned on June 11th, 2005 12:45 pm

Ronald, Where did you find that the 4th person was not at the bar? I have heard the Aruba radio station is broadcasting that the 4th person was arrested for kicking trash cans and screaming, basically disturbing the peace charges.

    51. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:46 pm

Is there going to be another press conference today?

    52. Tom on June 11th, 2005 12:46 pm

      thanks Rob

    53. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:47 pm

Well, no one mentioned that she left with a 4th person, so my inference was that this 4th person was not at a bar.

    54. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:48 pm

my point exactly native lingo.. they usually can get answers pretty quick.. you have to rememeber the fbi tactics have changed since 9-11 and they are far better at extracting info now than in thanin past.. makes me wonder why it took so long to get a 17 yr old to crack…

    55. mustiquemama on June 11th, 2005 12:49 pm

FYI, since the Yahoo chat room keeps getting full, another chat room has been set up at http://groups.msn.com/FindNatalee/chat . You’ll need an MSN Passport to get in.

    58. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:51 pm

Is that mass an acknowledgement that she’s dead?

    59. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:51 pm

      Rob,
Keep in mind they were formally arrested just 2 days ago…….. I think someone cracked pretty quickly……..

    60. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 12:51 pm

      Santa Cruz church.

    61. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 12:52 pm

No, that’s why I had trouble with the wording. It’s just a mass for her safety.

    62. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:52 pm

Is the confession rumor confirmed or still speculative?

    63. googler on June 11th, 2005 12:52 pm

I thought the FBI was there only as a private investigation. If they never used their divers, I doubt they are interrogating prisoners

    64. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:53 pm

i know the Santa cruz church.. perfect for a girl so beautiful

    65. Concerned on June 11th, 2005 12:53 pm

      Aruba,
Is there any new news out of Aruba?

    66. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:54 pm

REAL cops would have cracked this case already. These littl epunks would have cracked in 10 minutes with an NYPD detective doing the interrogation.

    67. VirginiaDA on June 11th, 2005 12:54 pm

Having dealt with the FBI, you can bet that they are not sitting quietly by . . .

    68. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:54 pm

i think you can bet that the fbi is involved in the interrogations. why else be on the island..

    69. googler on June 11th, 2005 12:55 pm

Besides, all you would need is outsiders who don’t well understand Aruban law destroying the case. I doubt the FBI is expert in Aruban law

    70. googler on June 11th, 2005 12:56 pm

The FBI is there because a US Senator insisted. Usually police departments are not real keen on outside help

    71. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:56 pm

something tells me that today is the day…..

    72. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 12:56 pm

From hat I heard…..they were not interrogated for the first 24 hours after the arrest…..

    73. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 12:58 pm

The FBI interrogators might not be experts in Aruban law, but they ARE experts in getting to the bottom of what happened, and that skill is effective regardless of location.

    74. VirginiaDA on June 11th, 2005 12:58 pm

Delayed interrogations sometimes are police tactics . . .

    75. janejane on June 11th, 2005 12:59 pm

Yet it was wrong to wait so long …

    76. Rob on June 11th, 2005 12:59 pm

aruba has a specail relationship with the us , not like that bullshit ” special” relantionship we share with the saudi s. im talking about a birth certificate gets you in the country, not a passport, you can bet that this is not standard op procedures for the aruban authorites

    77. Former Sheriff's Deputy on June 11th, 2005 12:59 pm

There are some interesting questions as a result of the Natalee disappearance. Some stuff to think about…

      1) How much sympathy do you have for a person who engages in reckless behavior and faces severe consequences? (I have little)

      2) Where does one point the finger? (I say with the dumb parents — they should win the stupid prize of the year!)

      3) Why doesn’t everyone get this level of attention and resources? (Because Daddy Holloway is a rich dude who is friends with a Senator)

All I know is I’d like to meet this Holloway bunch and dope slap them.

      Deputy

      P.S.
And to think this girl had a free ride to med school. Got to wonder if Daddy big bucks had some influence there too…

    78. NativeLingo on June 11th, 2005 1:00 pm

Exactly Virginia…… so if it’s true that someone has indeed “cracked”, than I say police interrogations were effective

    79. Rob on June 11th, 2005 1:00 pm

      still waiting or fox update

    80. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 1:01 pm

What kind of deterioration of seizeable evidence might have occurred in these 2 weeks? If she was killed, her body probably would leave some important clues about what happened. Might the time that has passed have compromised some vidence?

    81. Former Sheriff's Deputy on June 11th, 2005 1:01 pm

I hope that Daddy Holloway offers to reimburse the government of Aruba for the $ they have spent looking for his daughter. Hey, why not, he has the cash…

      Deputy

    82. VirginiaDA on June 11th, 2005 1:01 pm

It may not have been wrong—the police/FBI could already have had evidence of her demise and decided to delay interrogation–with all separated believing each was talking. We DON’T KNOW what they do—so criticizing at this point is not wise nor well informed.

    83. googler on June 11th, 2005 1:02 pm

Only if the FBI has access, and I’ve seen no evidence that they do. The Aruban authorities are trying to keep control of the case in the face of an outside onslaught the likes of which they have never seen (and probably hope to never see again). The last thing they would want is more outsiders able to give CNN interviews not under control of the Arubans.

    84. Rob on June 11th, 2005 1:02 pm

deputy put your big load of crap back in its holster

    85. janejane on June 11th, 2005 1:02 pm

I wonder what kind of values a Judge has instilled in his kid if in fact he is guilty (and everything points in that direction) ?

    86. mustiquemama on June 11th, 2005 1:02 pm

Former Sheriff’s Deputy, I know a little about U of Alabama full ride scholarships. My daughter in Louisiana was offered one unsolicitied. She never applied to the U of Alabama. And she had no interest in going to Alabama. So I don’t really consider that out of the ordinary.

    87. Question to Virginia DA: on June 11th, 2005 1:03 pm

Why is the FBI even involved? How many times has the FBI gotten involved when it is a poor minority child who is the victim?

      Deputy

    88. VirginiaDA on June 11th, 2005 1:03 pm

      Man, Deputy—–glad you aren’t on my team . . . .

    89. Rob on June 11th, 2005 1:03 pm

no one is guilty yet.. i remind you

    90. Ben on June 11th, 2005 1:04 pm

      Sheriff,

Nice. I have a lot of sympathy for her. Regardless of if she was drinking, on drugs, or sober, no one deserves to die or be killed simply for that. I know a lot of people who are in med school who were extremely wild in college, so the conclusions you draw have no bearing.

How can you not have sympathy for her?

    91. janejane on June 11th, 2005 1:04 pm

Mark my words: everything points in that direction…

    92. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 1:04 pm

Well, we don’t know what happened yet, so it’s tough to assign blame or culpability.

    93. Mustiquemama: on June 11th, 2005 1:04 pm

      Deputy

    94. VirginiaDA on June 11th, 2005 1:04 pm

    95. ScaredShitless on June 11th, 2005 1:05 pm

    99. googler on June 11th, 2005 1:06 pm

I’m just as upset at the van Sloot family. Joran was underage and was obviously drinking and gambling. Usually local families in places like that try to keep their kids out of the tourist areas. Is that really what they want their kids to be doing?

    100. mustiquemama on June 11th, 2005 1:07 pm

No, just from my knowledge they offered one to my daughter who never applied. I’m sure Natalee had the test scores to be offered one, too. Meaning, it probably wasn’t daddy’s money as you are spouting off about. Please simmer down.

    101. Sharon on June 11th, 2005 1:07 pm

Deputy, you seem to be a very bitter man…can’t blame you for what you have seen in the past, but don’t dump on other countries’ laws…And don’t dump on a family in crises, either, regardless of their social status. Try to keep some respect, as all others in all chats and blogs have…thanks.

    102. Former Sheriff's Deputy on June 11th, 2005 1:08 pm

You guys are all coming down on me. I call it as I see it. Sure, it tears at every parents heart. No question.

But, bottom line, this child willingly engaged in reckless behavior that was endorsed by her parents. Do you see the ownership of the problem?

I am not saying she should have died, etc. What I am saying is she, condoned by her ding bat parents, put herself in harms way.

      Deputy

    103. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 1:08 pm

Natalee Holloway; Disturbing Reason Why More FBI Agents Were Summoned to Aruba http://www.scaredmonkeys.com/?p=1041

Here are some interesting (disturbing) comments from U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills,

U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills, said Saturday there were circumstances surrounding Holloway’s disappearance that warranted the FBI being heavily involved. He declined to give details.

“The circumstances were disturbing,” said Bachus, who formally requested the FBI’s involvement. “I can’t get into it, but it’s something the family is aware of. There was an immediate recognition that this was not simply a teen who wandered off.”

This might be a reason; however, I am still trying to figure out what “disturbing” thing they refer to. They give the impressions of conspiracy.

    109. mustiquemama on June 11th, 2005 1:11 pm

Deputy, you have no right to say what her parents did or didn’t do. I have friends who didn’t want their daughters to go on trips like this, had week long battles with them even, and some did end up giving in against their better judgement. But they’ll be on their own in two months anyway, so you just hope and pray that you’ve done all you can. And even that’s not always enough. Believe me, I’ve been lecturing up a storm this weekend. Sad, but true.

Deputy, again, there are lots of parents that try to do right by their children, but make mistakes–there is no manual to go with parenting, unfortunately—and yes, Natalee made a bad choice, but she probably never had the freedom to drink and at that young age, you don’t know your limits….

Parents don’t need to be beaten up by anyone else–they are probably doing that enough to themselves right now…try to be compassionate–apparently you are not a parent and understand that most is trial and error–again, there are people that breed that shouldn’t but I honestly think, according to this girl’s past and grades, future, etc. that her parents have done everything right up til now….please have some respect…Thanks.

    136. concerned mom on June 11th, 2005 1:20 pm

I have been following the posts for a couple of days now and am amazed at the tone some poeple use here.

There doesn’t seem to be any acknowledging that the values teens have today are so very differernt than even ten years ago. Teens today think they know someone very well if they have talked for a couple of hours. Sex today is taken very casually, much like holding hands in the hallway was for my generation (I’m mid 40′s). To really understand how Natalee could leave with these guys, you have to understand teen girls today.

As to blaming the parents, that is just wrong. I seriously doubt Natalee’s parents raised her to party and go off with people she didn’t know really well. Teens very often take values that are very different than those their parents hold. They make their own choices, very often with the idea that they are bulletproof and that nothing can happen to them because they truly believe they know better than mom and dad.

Let’s quit blaming mom and dad or even the chaperones. If these kids indeed came from wealthy families, they could have done this trip without any parents involvement or knowledge since they are of age and probably have the money anyway.

It is truly only by the grace of G-d that so many of us made it to adulthood without disappearing like Natalee, let’s remember that.

Believe it or not, I am angry, very angry about the Natalee situation. What I have tried to do is cause the real folks responsible for this tragedy to accept responsibility. I am also try to shame a few more parents in to not letting their kid go off on a drinking party at age 18.

And yes, I am a parent! And if my comments, harsh as they may be, hae cause one parent to say to their child “No you can’t go to…….” then I have done well.

    144. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 1:25 pm

I certainly would never blame the parents. Being a mother I have a feeling they will be doing enough of that themselves, the second-guessing and “what ifs”. It’s not their fault. And even though Natalee may have been doing some underage drinking, she was out of her element and if she is dead then I truly do not believe it is her fault. If she is dead, I believe it is because someone killed her and the fault lies only in the person who did that. We have all read how safe Aruba is and many girls just like Natalee were on that trip and made it home safely as they do everyday. The fault lies in the person that took her life, if that is indeed what happened.

    145. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 1:25 pm

Well, we don’t know that Natalee consented to sex with these guys. There’s nothing to suggest that she did. For all we know, she may have been raped.

I will say, however, that should it be revealed that she did consent to sex with them, a lot of the public sympathy in this case will, rightly or wrongly, disappear.

Yes, kids in college drink, but the atmosphere at these party places does encourage drunkeness. Just look at the CnC site. I don’t think that is a gradual transition to responsible adult behavior.

      Former Sheriff

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There will be a time for blame and people will be living with guilt. Anyone has who feels that they may have been able to change circumstances where something bad happened.

Sure 18 yr olds do things like this, does that mean this is supposed to happen? You cant tell me you did not do some wild things in your day that you would never allow your kids to do? My parents had no idea what I did when I was at college. Fortunately, things do not usually get to this point for bad judgment.

    154. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 1:29 pm

Once again, I think the point here is that Natalee is 18. She is an adult and can take a trip anywhere she wants to go. Maybe parents will try harder to keep their kids from going on trips like this next time, but she had every right to make this decision herself. And she was certainly not alone. Weren’t there over 100 from her class that went? And they went to one of the safest tourist spots they could go.

    155. concerned mom on June 11th, 2005 1:30 pm

As a parent, I did not allow my kids to watch crap on tv. We didn’t even have tv for about a decade and have always had high expectation for my kids. I have not raised them to believe sex is casual or that drinking is acceptable, especially underage drinking. I have raised my kids with high standards.

What have I learned? Teens will do what they want even if it means sneaking out and lying to do what you don’t want them to.

You cannot make an 18 year old stay home if they do not want to. They make their own choices by then, like it or not. You can disapprove, but no longer have conotrol.

Natalee was NOT an “adult.” We use 18 as the legal age of majority not because there is some monumental transformation at that age but because it stems from a time when people led accelerated lives. The fact of the matter is that someone who is 18 RARELY possesses adult sensibilities. Moreover, we, as Americans, have recognized this, and that’s why we require someone to be 21 before he can drink.

    169. cider on June 11th, 2005 1:33 pm

Was that the name of this trip? The “booze cruise”? All I have heard is that this was a trip attended by over 100 graduates and 40 chaperones to a very safe tourist spot. No, I don’t blame the parents. Natalee is 18. We don’t know where she got the money for this trip. Maybe she’s been saving it since she was 16. Maybe there were fundraisers for this trip. How on earth can we blame the parents because their 18 year old daughter was in Aruba? Should we then blame all parents whose daughters marry men that end up killing them? Should parents forbid adult children from marrying someone they don’t like or don’t have good feellings about? Natalee is an adult.

    171. concerned mom on June 11th, 2005 1:34 pm

I’ve been on trips to other countries when I was in high school and I can definitely say that the teachers and other adults that went with us were probably what kept us out of trouble. Things were a lot different when I was in high school too, however. We were never allowed to go ANYWHERE alone and we always had to give a specific time as to when we would be back. If we weren’t, the adults would come looking for us and you didn’t want that to happen. These were set “free times” (usually on for an hour or so) and we didn’t get them often since there were so many planned events and meals we went to. If you remotely got into any trouble, you were sent home, not exceptions. I think we give children way too many rights and freedoms and treat them like adults just because they’ve turned 18. As someone stated earlier, our ideas aboout a lot of topics are WAY too casual than they should be. For the past couple of years I worked a retail job for seasonal work and was around mostly high school and college kids. They are TOTALLY different than my friends and I were in school. Sex, of any kind, is just like giving someone a small kiss or holding hands, as a mother said earlier. They have no respect for themselves or anyone else. I’m not saying this is this case for Natalee, but it seems to be a very universal behavior and it keeps passing on to the younger kids. It’s very scary. I feel very bad for Natalee and her family. I even understand where Deputy is coming from, however I may have not worded it in that way. When you are that young, you don’t make good decisions I don’t care how “adult” you think you are. I know I didn’t and honestly, I’m lucky to be here and in one piece. I just wish that there would have been more rules and some curfews set in place and maybe we wouldn’t be here right now talking about this.

It IS hard to refuse to let your 18 year old go on a senior trip. But I do believe that if ALL the parents refused permission for this kind of questionable adventure it would not happen. Yes, this kind of event is very rare. Especially at safer destinations. But many of you, I suspect, have regrets about things you did on trips like this. Growing up is hard. Putting our kids directly in temptations’ way is not the best idea.

I don’t believe anyone woke up that morning thinking: “tonight I’m going to rape and murder someone”……

      something went wrong….terribly wrong….

I recently chaperoned a high school trip to the Bahamas. There were over 300 students and each chaperone was responsible for 8 students. I was surprised to learn that the school permitted a trip with so few adult chaperones. Poor judgement!

    197. dragonfly on June 11th, 2005 1:43 pm

My only point here is that blaming the parents will probably cause those guilt-ridden parents much more grief than they deserve. No one knows who paid for that trip. These kids could have washed cars and raised all kinds of money in other ways. And like I’ve said before, she is 18 and I doubt she needed permission to go.

J.C., it’s the legal system that gives kids at 18 the rights they have. In the U.S., an 18 year old would no longer be considered a missing chile, but rather a missing adult. If a crime is committed, they are no longer in the juvie system, but in adult court/prison/whatever. They are legally able to enter into contracts that they could not legally sign the day before they turned 18. They can get a driver’s license without a parent signature. They can obtain credit without parent signature. It’s not that parents treat them as adults, it’s because legally they ARE adults. It has nothing to do with maturity, everything to do with LEGALITY.

How could the search be missed by locals at this point?

    205. Sharon on June 11th, 2005 1:47 pm

As I understand it, the term chaperones was used loosely, very loosely. These adults were not there to keep an eye on these kids, only to be there if there was trouble or an emergency. Unfortunately, no one realized there was an emergency until NH didn’t show up at the airport. The rest flew back and one man stayed there to try to follow up. Again, these really weren’t chaperones–they were simply adults along for the ride to do their own thing until one or more of the kids needed them. I think this was up the the kids’ discretion if they were to utilize thm…

Blood has been found in the silver Honda Civic impounded Thursday by officials, this car is supposedly owned by the suspect detained in the case of missing Natalee Holloway, Joran van der Sloot.
The biological parents of Natalee Holloway had supposedly taken blood tests yesterday, to confirm if the blood found in the car is indeed from Natalee. The results are known. Hopefully this will be revealed in the press conference of this morning at 10 AM. This news is yet to be confirmed TOM – It was not confirmed at the press conference

I have my very underage children running around me at the moment and that clouds my brain! But, that was my point also that regardless of how we feel about her maturity or lack there of, she is legally an adult and could make that decision for herself. And we really don’t know who paid for this trip. I realize it wasn’t school sponsored, but that doesn’t mean these kids didn’t bust butts to earn the money to go.

It was before the airport that Natalee was known missing. She was known to not be w/ the others at the 8am “headcount.” In hindsight, 100% of course, it was poor judgment to let a bunch of kids go on a “booze cruise” w/ 7 adults. Regardless of popular opine, 18 yr old kids *may* be old enough to fight for our country, drive and vote; but they (in large part) are not capable of mature decisions.

    225. arubagirl on June 11th, 2005 1:54 pm

No, it’s all quiet here, so no sense of a search. The island is too small to hide that. Last night in the water, maybe…. As for searching on land . . . I’m not too sure,. They aren’t going to search in the caves at Canashito at night, because that would be risking their lives. As for searching somewhere else, I would think that there would be a big risk to compromise evidence in the dark, and if you use lights big enough, again, we would notice, destroying any secrecy you could have had.

Iv’e been lurking and reading posts for three days. You have done an excellent job of concentrating alot of info at one source.
I think the ‘disturbing circumstances’ were that Natalee’s parents could foresee problems with the Aruba police because of VDS father’s position on the island. I’m sure she had some knowledge of the contact between the three and her daughter before she even got to Aruba. One of Natalee’s friends has stated that there was almost a fight between VDS and some of her friends. She knew that the police and gov’t. would try to whitewash the whole incident.

I understand the whole “legality” b.s. since I’ve worked for law firms in the past and I know an 18 year old can enter into contracts, etc. My point is we give these kids, and that is what they are, way too much power and responsibility. I definitely was not the innocent doe in the woods when I was younger, but I can guarantee you this, my parents would not have let me gone on a trip named the “boose cruise”. I don’t even know if this info is correct since I think I read it was on the side of a bus, not the name of the trip. Just because someone turns 18, you don’t wake up that morning and go “hey….I’m so much smarter than I was before midnight, I think I will go enter into a contract”. And to scared, if it wasn’t a school trip, why does the news keep referring to this trip as a “senior trip”? Or is this inccorect information? (whether the school paid for it or not)

I do believe in rights of the people and not having a controlling government. From Riehl World:
Aruba Preparing For Worse In Holloway Case
Aruban radio station Top95 is reportedly preparing Arubans for the worst possible announcement in the Natalee Holloway case.

Sources say the three boys are now before a judge to extend their detention and the location of the body is as yet unconfirmed.

    309. Ronald on June 11th, 2005 2:27 pm

After bilogical father is taken to site (Dave Holloway is father).. before media gets there. It is my understanding the Miinistry of Justice confirms Natalee’s death and father is en route to site of body now..

    318. Jay on June 11th, 2005 2:33 pm

Native- on fox a min ago.
mother not said to be going. The poor woman prob had to be press decoy on opp end island

    324. VA Belle on June 11th, 2005 2:37 pm

There are conficting statements coming from Aruba. Reports from one source and reports from another.

I can’t imagine the feelings Natalee’s loved ones must be experiencing.

    325. Tara on June 11th, 2005 2:38 pm

Fox just said that one report says the father is being taken to the scene but another says that the mother says she has not been told of this and no death confrimed to her. You would think they’d wait until there was certainty before they plastered she was dead all over their website. I’m sorry – that is not good journalism.
My heart breaks for her family.

    326. Former Sheiff's Deputy on June 11th, 2005 2:38 pm

I called it days ago that she would be found dead. And it will show that she was raped.

I put the pieces together, what, 5 days ago.

You all owe me an apology.

      Deputy

Fox seems to be the only news channel reporting anything! And they stink!
