5.8 Earthquake strikes near Los Angeles

5.8 Earthquake strikes near Los Angeles 3 miles from Chino Hills. I live south of the epicenter and this earthquake was the largest and most shaking I’ve felt in over 10 years. No damage in my area but I’m about 30-40 miles from the epicenter (klaasend).

Mexico & Texas Brace for Tropical Storm Dolly (Hurricane) … Hello Dolly

A hurricane watch has been issued for South Texas as Tropical Storm Dolly Dolly_TSheads across the Gulf of Mexico.

“All forecast models have it hitting over northeast Mexico or the coast of deep South Texas,” National Weather Service forecaster Fred Vega said. “It’s hard to indicate where it’s going to hit landfall, but it’s a large system and we’re going to see the effects way before.”

The National Weather Service posted a hurricane watch from Rio San Fernando, Mexico, to Port O’Connor, Texas. A hurricane watch means hurricane conditions are possible within the next 36 hours. A tropical storm watch for the same time period was issued from Port O’Connor north to San Luis Pass.

Dolly was expected to make landfall on Wednesday as a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 74 mph to 95 mph.

Its been fast and furious this hurricane season. Tropical Storm Cristobal wanes, as Dolly says hello! Lurking in the wings is Hurricane Fausto

Fausto’s maximum sustained winds are near 160 kilometres per hour and the storm’s center is 651 kilometres west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Bertha … First Hurricane of the Atlantic Season

Tropical storm Bertha has now become Hurricane Bertha, the first one of the Atlantic season. It is still too early according to reports as to whether it will make land.

As of 5 a.m. EDT Monday, Hurricane Bertha was about 845 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say it is too early to say if or where the storm will hit land. Maximum sustained winds have increased to speeds of 75 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected during the next couple of days.

The hurricane center said it is still too early to determine whether Bertha will eventually affect any land areas.

More Global Warming from The People’s Republic of Vermont … Snow on Memorial Day

Memorial Day is Vermont … any one want to go skiing?

A note to Al Gore … here are some more examples of global warming as fresh snow fell in GoreGreenthe Green Mountains of the People’s Republic of Vermont. Or are we supposed to believe that snow fall is a result of global warming as well? Al, its not easy being green, especially in the Green Mountains I guess.

There’s nothing like a little fresh snow and lots of old mud to liven up an early summer hike.

Which is exactly what people are likely to find near the peaks of Vermont’s higher mountains this Memorial Day weekend, due to the snowy winter and some fresh flurries this week.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, 18 inches of snow remained on the ground near the top of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. The snow cover includes some of the 3.5 inches of fresh fluff that descended on the mountaintop Monday. More light snow is likely over northern Vermont summits today and Thursday, the National Weather Service in South Burlington said. (Burlington Free Press)

Looks like weather patterns are actually cyclical in Vermont. Go figure. You mean in 1945 it snowed as well in Burlington, VT? Could it actually be that weather patterns are caused by the forces of nature?

Hey Al Gore … More Global warming … Coolest April in 11 Years

Hey Al Gore … far be it from some climate facts getting in the way of your Global_coolingglobal warming agenda. As reported by NOAA, that right wing organization, April 2008 was the coolest on record in 11 years. Could it possibly be that this is just nature acting in a cyclical manner? Do you really think that man is any match to the power of nature?

The average temperature in April 2008 was 51.0 F. This was -1.0 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 29th coolest April in 114 years. The temperature trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit per decade.

April also ranked the 29th coldest since record keeping began 114 years ago
