Paroled Sex Offenders Told No Halloween For You In Tennessee

Halloween-pumpkinThis is one of the smarter things I have seen in a while done by government on the sex offenders issue. They have essentially kept sex offenders out of the mix on Halloween in Tennessee. Instead of letting these miscreants out and about with the children, they have been given very specific things are not allowed to participate in.

Bravo Tennessee!

The restrictions prohibit sex offenders from attending special Halloween events like corn mazes and haunted houses, handing out treats, displaying Halloween decorations, accompanying trick-or-treating children or wearing costumes.
They apply to all sex offenders on probation or parole about 2,000 of the 8,100 registered offenders living in the state and not specifically to those offenders whose crimes involved minors.
“No matter what their sex offense might have been, they must adhere to the same rules,” Elder said. “Any sex offender is not supposed to have contact with minors. They all sign the same directives.”
That means offenders with children must find someone else to accompany them trick-or-treating, he said. Offenders may not wear costumes, even at adult parties. And if other children come to knock on their doors on Halloween, the offenders must not answer.  via ABC News

Rooney Officially Charged in Gardner-Quinn Murder

Brian Rooney has been officially charged in the death of Michelle Gardner-Quinn, the University of Vermont student. Court documents filed this afternoon show Rooney being charged with aggrevated murder and will be arraigned on Thurdays at 10:30 AM.

Court papers show that blood found on Rooney’s blue jeans and semen recovered from Gardner-Quinn’s body came from the same man.

Rooney will be arraigned on the charges in Vermont District Court in Burlington at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Aggravated murder carries a penalty of life in prison and nothing less.

Tom Tremblay, Burlington Police Chief, verified the charges in a news conference moments ago. “The cause of Michelle’s death was strangulation and blunt force trauma,” Tremblay said.  via the Burlington Free Press

While our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, we are glad they will have closure on this horrific crime to their daughter. When the police and  judicial systems works effectively, crimes like these can be solved quickly and with certainty.

Buffalo Teacher Exiled For Having Sex With Student

Malcolm Watson, a teacher at a Buffalo private school was caught with a 15 year old student in a mall parking lot. The teacher was convicted for sexual abuse on a minor. Fairly typical, if horrifying, so far.

However in this case, the instructor was not sentenced to jail, he was exiled instead. You see he lives in Canada with his Canadian wife and 3 children and now will not be allowed in the country for 3 years except to visit his probation officer. If the predator did not take this sentence he was facing a year in jail in Buffalo.

I am amazed that the judge made this offer and that this is even an alternative. The  man in my opinion should serve his time and then be denied entry for life into the United States.

The fun part is that he is not a Canadian citizen, and Canada does not have to let a convicted sex offender live in their country. He may be forced to leave there.

What are your thoughts on this matter?

Brian Rooney, Suspected Murderer of Michelle Gardner-Quinn, Was Sexual Predator According to Court Papers

As if this could be a surprise to anyone who understands how sexual assaults are not typically one time events, Brian Rooney has had a long past of sexual threats in his past. The suspected murderer of Michelle Gardner-Quinn has a long history according to court documents in aggressive behavior towards women. With poor Michelle Gardner-Quinn, he just raised the level of violence that he committed to murder in the first degree.

The man who has left a trail of restraining orders and delinquent child support payments across northern Vermont over the past 15 years is now the chief suspect in the slaying of University of Vermont student Michelle Gardner-Quinn. Her body was found near Huntington Gorge in Richmond on Oct. 13, six days after she vanished while making her way back to her dorm room after spending the evening in downtown Burlington.

The disappearance of the 21-year-old UVM senior from Arlington, Va., spawned a week of intense searches and captured national media attention. The discovery of her body by hikers brought the harrowing week to a crushing end.

The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide, but police have declined to say how, when and where Gardner-Quinn was killed. Police say Rooney, 36, lent the student his cell phone the night she disappeared and is the last person known to have seen her before she vanished.   via the Burlington Free  Ã‚  Press.com
