New Mexico Police Officer Fire Gun at Minivan Full of Kids After Traffic Stop That Went Terribly Wrong … Mother Charged with 5 Counts of Child Abuse, Aggravated Fleeing an Officer

All of this started with a simple traffic stop when police pulled over a woman in her mini-van full with children for speeding.

A police officer’s dashboard camera captured the following traffic stop on October 28, 2013 in New Mexico after a woman was pulled over for going 71 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. The mother pulls over and then as the officer goes back to his vehicle, she drives off. She is then pulled over again and all hell breaks loose. Of course running away from the police and then having a 14 year old boy then get into a scuffle with one of the police officers did not help matters. However, as the mom tried to drive off again, the police opened fire on a van full of children. Good grief, you think they could have used a little bit better judgement than that?

The mother, Oriana Ferrell , was charged with five counts of abuse of a child, aggravated fleeing an officer, resisting an officer, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her 14 year-old son was charged with battery of an officer. One has to wonder what is going to happen to the police as an investigation is certain to happen?

ABC News (KABC):

In the video, Oriana Ferrell and a state police officer are seen arguing over a ticket just south of Taos. As the cop walks off, Ferrell drives away and is pulled over again by the same officer.

The officer isn’t too happy, yelling “Get out of the vehicle right now!”

The dash cam shows the officer trying to pull Ferrell out while the five kids inside scream.

Her 14-year-old son gets out, but thinks again when the officer pulls his Taser. The struggle continues.

“Look, I’m going to ask you one more time to get out of the vehicle and then I’m going to pull you out, OK?” the officer said. “You’re already facing evading charges. You ran away from me.”

Finally, Ferrell agrees to get out and talk, but the conversation doesn’t last long. Ferrell and the cop struggle as she tries to get back into the van.

While that happens, the 14-year-old gets out again, and this time, he rushes the officer, trying to defend his mom.

After a short tussle, the boy runs back into the minivan. The officer tries to get him out while backup arrives.

Ferrell starts to drive off while another officer fires at the minivan full of kids as young as six.

EXIT QUESTION: How much time will it take for Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to hitch themselves to this story?

UPDATE I: From The Raw Story - Several New Mexico State Police officers are under investigation after at least one of them fired shots at a minivan full of children last month.

Ferrell was later arrested and charged with child abuse, fleeing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. The 14-year-old boy was charged with battery. The other children were taken into the custody the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. They were later placed in the care of a family known to Ferrell, according to court documents obtained by The Taos News.

At a hearing on Tuesday, Eighth Judicial District Judge Jeff McElroy reviewed the dashcam footage and said that the “court is concerned about the nature of these charges.”

Defense attorney Alan Maestas explained to the judge that Ferrell was fleeing from the officer because she feared for the safety of her children.

“She was flat-out scared that something was going to happen to her children,” he said. “We ought to talk about the stupidity and recklessness of shooting at a car that has five children in it.”

“If someone ought to be charged with child abuse, it ought to be the New Mexico State Police,” Maestas pointed out.

UPDATE II: Was there a use of excessive force or will it be determined justifiable?

The New Mexico state police chief, Pete Kassetas, called the incident “an intense, 43-minute-long, dangerous situation that placed the public at risk.”

“I have, of course, reviewed the video and do have concerns relating to the conduct of the officer who discharged his firearm,” the chief said in a statement.

Greg Meyer, a retired police captain and expert on the use of force, watched the video and told NBC News that he also had concerns. He said that it was possible the second officer was firing at the tires, but that it would take more investigating.

“I would be asking a lot of questions about the window smash — what’s he trying to accomplish there? And the gunfire — what’s he trying to accomplish there?” Meyer said. “Until we know why, it’s difficult to judge thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the reasonableness of what happened here.”

32 Year Old Anthony Brinkman Arrested at Missouri Cracker Barrel over Craigslist Ad Seeking to Beat & Rape His 11 Year Old Daughter … Charged with Statutory Sodomy

OH DEAR GOD!!!

32 year old Anthony Brinkman of Cuba, Missouri was arrested at a Cracker Barrel after having solicited on Craig’s List an undercover police officer to rape and beat his 11 year old daughter while he watched. Not only did this POS put an ad on Craig’s List, he actually brought his daughter to the Cracker Barrel for the meet up.  Thank God it was an undercover officer!  As St. Louis County Detective Mike Slaughter said at the press conference on Monday, “If we hadn’t gotten involved and someone bad had gotten in touch with him, something bad would have happened to that little girl.” It is not known whether the 11 year old girl had been previously sexually assaulted by Brinkman, however, a further investigation is underway. Police have seized Brinkman’s computers and are awaiting the results of a forensic analysis. Anthony Brinkman is charged with attempted statutory sodomy and he is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

An undercover officer posing as a 27-year-old woman then responded to Brinkman. He told her he wanted the woman to be his girlfriend as well as participate with him in sexually assaulting the child with sex toys, Slaughter said. He also said he wanted her to help find a boyfriend for the child, Slaughter said.

Thankfully, some one had contacted  the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that Brinkman had posted the Craigslist ad. Personally, I would like to know why Craig’s List is not supposed to police their own websites.

From The Raw Story:

A Missouri father was arrested last week after he showed up at a Cracker Barrel to meet an undercover officer who he had contacted on Craigslist about beating and raping his 11-year-old daughter.

At a press conference on Monday, St. Louis County Detective Mike Slaughter said that it took a lot to shock detectives who investigate Internet predators, but they just couldn’t believe it when 32-year-old Anthony Brinkman came to the restaurant with the young girl that he expected them to assault.

“It’s just a lot of talk for most of these guys, but this guy actually brought (the girl) to the scene to go ahead with the next step of enacting it,” Slaughter explained. “If we hadn’t gotten involved and someone bad had gotten in touch with him, something bad would have happened to that little girl.”

I guess it is not just food stamps that are for sale on Craig’s List these days.

Is Maria Found with Gypsy Couple in Greece Lisa Irwin Missing Since 10/4/11in Kansas City, MO?

Is Maria, the blond, blue eyed girl that was found with her abductor Gypsy couple in Greece possibly missing Lisa Irwin who was 10 months old when she went missing on October 4, 2011 at the age of in Kansas City, MO? The FBI and Greek authorities will work to determine that the child isn’t that of missing Kansas City toddler Lisa Irwin as well as other missing children.

Lisa Irwin, the Kansas City baby who disappeared two years ago, is among the candidates considered by authorities to be a match for “Maria,” the blue-eyed, blond girl found living with alleged abductors in Greece last week, the attorney for the missing girl’s family said Tuesday.

Lisa, who was 10 months old when she vanished from her parents’ home in October 2011, is among the eight to 10 leads being reviewed by authorities, John Picerno told FoxNews.com.

If authorities believe the two girls are the same person, the next step would involve a DNA test, Picerno said. He added that Lisa’s parents, Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, are trying to stay positive as the investigation works its course.

“It’s been a long two years,” Picerno said. “Sightings such as these give them hope.”

The development in the case began last week, when Greek police searching for drugs and weapons raided a Roma camp near the town of Farsala and discovered Maria, Sky News reported.

Greek authorities, investigating mystery girl Maria, alerted to Baby Lisa’s disappearance in KC.

Although Greek authorities say the child taken from a Roma encampment appears to be at least two years older than Kansas City’s Lisa Irwin, her parents were hopeful Tuesday that the child known as Maria is their missing daughter.

“We’re trying not to get our hopes up too much, but we are very hopeful that she could be Lisa,” said the missing girl’s mother, Deborah Bradley.

Federal investigators in Kansas City said they have been in contact with authorities in Greece after receiving calls once pictures of the girl found with a Gypsy couple appeared in the media.

UPDATE I: Kidnapped Gypsy Girl’s DNA Has No Matches in Interpol Database.

DNA from a little girl found living in the squalor of a Gypsy encampment in central Greece does not match an international database of missing persons, Greek authorities told ABC News.

The setback only deepens the mystery as to the identity of the blonde-haired girl called Maria who was discovered in the camp by Greek police last week during a nationwide crackdown on Gypsies, also known as Roma.

The findings by Interpol initially suggest that the girl is not one of the hundreds of children reported missing every year in its database.

That database does not include reports of missing U.S. children and several American families whose kids have disappeared — along with hundreds of European families with missing kids -- have had their hopes kindled by the mystery of the blonde girl.
