Oscar Wyatt, Former Coastal Corporation in Aruba Executive, Due in Court on Oil for Food Bribery Charges with Saddam Hussein Regime
Oscar Wyatt, the former owner of Coastal Corporation and the then Coastal refinery in Aruba goes on trial September 5, 2007 at federal court in Manhattan. Who knew the UN “oil for food” bribery scandals had roots in Aruba as well?
“Coastal Corp. (forms Coastal Petroleum NV),” Oil and Gas Journal, vol. 90, pp. 30, July 13, 1992. Coastal formed subsidiary company to market products from its Aruba refinery off the coast of Venezuela and to buy and sell products in international markets.
Oscar Wyatt is accused of paying millions of dollars in kickbacks to Iraq to win oil contracts and corrupting the United Nations oil for food program.
On the eve of Wyatt’s trial in the U.N. oil-for-food scandal, U.S. District Judge Denny Chin also allowed evidence that defense lawyers said unfairly suggested payments made by Wyatt to Iraq’s state oil marketing organization were bribes passed on to Saddam Hussein. (Washington Post)
The UN Oil for Food program had been nothing but a scam as it was supposed to let Iraq sell oil to buy civilian goods for its people living under U.N. sanctions. However, as many would later find out, the UN oil for food program was riddled with fraud, corruption and scandal. An intended humanitarian program instead turned into nothing more than a get rich quick scheme by Saddam Hussein pocketing billions.
It administered some $67 billion worth of oil, and U.S. and U.N. investigations have found that lobbyists, U.N. and Iraqi officials enriched themselves through kickbacks and bribery.
Wyatt’s former company, the Coastal Corporation, dealt in Iraqi oil and Wyatt had traveled a number of times to Iraq, meeting senior officials including Saddam. (Washington Post)

Aruba … Fun in the Sun or Water Spouts … Missed this in the Brochure
Aruba, One Happy Island, experienced One Happy water spout and flooding. We thought the Aruban AHATA said this type of weather never occurred in Aruba? That type of PR can’t be good for tourism either.
(Amigoe)
Since Natalee Holloway has gone missing in Aruba we have witnessed Natural Bridge collapse into the ocean.
Now water spouts and flooding in Oranjestad … what’s next, Locust!
JUSTICE FOR NATALEE.

Aruban Hotel Fire Exercise … It Turned Out that Some Media was still not Informed”
Those that do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. It appears that some in the Aruban media misreported a fire exercise, ala Orson Wells and “War of the Worlds.”
“Despite the fact that in broad circles news got out that it was a fire exercise, it turned out that some media was still not informed.”
At least this time it is not being reported that there was no fire or that security guards or American tourists were responsible.
Amigoe; August 22, 2007: Commotion with fire exercises at Riu
ORANJESTAD – There was a fire exercise at the Riu Hotel around noon yesterday. The fire department decided on the exercise in cooperation with the hotel. They wanted to see what the deployment is supposed to be in case of a real fire. They also wanted to see how the accessibility of the buildings is for the fire engines and the personnel. The fire exercise did cause some commotion though.
Several radio stations, like Canal Nobenta broadcasted that there was fire at the new sugar palace. Despite the fact that in broad circles news got out that it was a fire exercise, it turned out that some media was still not informed.
In order to make the fire look as real as possible, some old outside furniture of the Grand Hotel was set on fire on the upper deck of the parking garage. That caused a whole lot of smoke and this was training material for the fire department to extinguish. During the exercise, the fire department also checked the behavior of the hotel personnel in case of fire and if their effort is adequate to avoid injuries and/or casualties. An exercise at new hotels is very usual for the fire department. The exercise went well and there were no special circumstances.
In Aruba Dissatisfaction with Quad Racer, What about Drugs & Money Laundering … Natalee Holloway?
One wonders why more is not written and reported on when it comes to other crimes in Aruba? Like the real issues that plague the island. Dissatisfaction with tourists on quad-racers? Is that the most pressing issue? There are actually more auto accidents with deadly consequences to native Arubans than injuries caused from quad-racers. What is it with Aruba, a so-called tourist destination where they so willingly blame the tourist at all cost?
I guess Aruba will just skip over the obvious real crime issues like drugs and money laundering. They will also gloss over the whole American tourist missing person thing as well. They seem to be more intent on public enemy number one, tourists on quad racers.
Park rangers assume that quad racers are responsible for this, because they saw tire tracks in the sand. They will announce this Friday what measures they are going to take to prevent this from happening again.
One wonders when they are going to come out with measures to prevent under age Aruban teens from being allowed in bars like Carlos N’ Charlie’s and in casinos. Both places where according to Aruban law, they are not allowed. In Aruba, quad racers and turtle eggs important … Justice for Natalee Holloway, not.
Amigoe; August 18, 2007: Dissatisfaction with quads increases
