ORANJESTAD – Aruba was coping with severe thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon. Also very exceptional phenomenon happened: three whirlwinds developed offshore. The biggest one started south-west of Manchebo Beach Resort and went in eastern direction along the high rise. A second one developed offshore of Havana Beach, and a third one near Balashi Gardens. Even though whirlwinds are innocent nature phenomena that may only be dangerous for the shipping traffic, they surely caused some panic.
The exceptional weather is caused by a so-called storm front, a disturbance in the middlemost air layer of the atmosphere. The weather station of the meteorological service at the airport of Aruba registered 35 millimeter of rain that fell between 15:00 and 16:30. The storm caused problems for the air traffic. Several airplanes had to deviate to Curacao, like an aircraft of American Airlines that, after two landing attempts and circling above the island for some time, decided to deviate to Hato.
A whirlwind is a funnel-shaped trunk, caused by fast turning air movements that are caused by the heating of the bottommost layers of a cloud. Because it was totally overcast, the heat could not be released and it heated up the bottom of the clouds. Since the cloud itself cools off, turning air movements come to exist. When this reached the water surface and starts sucking up water, it becomes a whirlwind.
Most of the time, the whirlwind looses power above land. Only in rare conditions, the whirlwind keeps sufficient power to cause damages along the coast.
Whirlwinds near Aruba almost always develop between 11:00 and 15:00. Yesterday’s whirlwinds were unusual. They developed later in the afternoon. People on the water must be prepared for whirlwinds. The wind is very strong and the visibility becomes poor, which was the case yesterday. Two divers that concluded their dive near Boca Catalina couldn’t find the ship they came with. A rescue boat that rushed out to rescue them, returned due to bad visibility; they were afraid to run down the divers, who found their ship after the rain slowed down.

If these funnel clouds are so rare it’d be interesting to learn just how many have occured on one $hitty island in the last 20 years. If none have til now it very well could be a bad sign of many more things to come for Aruba.
Some people would go anywhere on a discount ticket. They never let things bother them until it hits their own door step… Someone I know who went to Aruba in May, a retired cop, just to be nosey.. said many of them told him, that Natalee died from alcohol poisoning and fell in the water and washed away. Also they told him there is no crime in Aruba.. I am in the process of educating this man. This is what is a such a big joke. They told him they are one happy island and that American girls attack the guys down there.. I guess that’s why the locals go around hotels, clubs and beaches looking for tourist girls???? BOGOTA, Colombia—- Colombia said Monday it has seized a private Caribbean island and hundreds of other properties allegedly used by powerful cocaine trafficker to launder millions of dollars in drug profits.
Juan Carlos Ramirez Abadia was arrested in a luxury condominium on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Aug. 7. He faces three U.S. federal indictments on drug and racketeering charges, and U.S. officials have said they plan to seek his extradition.
Colombian authorities said they seized 300 properties across the country — including farms, apartments, empty lots, a hotel and gymnasium — worth about $400 million.
They also seized a private island near the Caribbean tourist city of Cartagena, four cars and 18 private businesses, among them a travel agency and real estate company. They gave no details on the island.
Ramirez Abadia, 44, said in an interview Sunday night with TV Globo’s Fantastico news and entertainment program — Brazil’s most popular — that his arrest will not affect drug trafficking.
”From all the people who started with me in this business several years ago, there are only two or three left. The rest either died or were extradited,” he said. ”I’m in prison but there are people replacing me, then there will be others. It will never end.”
Even while acknowledging his involvement in Colombia’s lucrative cocaine trade, Ramirez Abadia vowed not to testify against his former partners if he is extradited to the United States .
”I’m not going to make any deals,” he said. ”I’ll assume responsibility for my problems alone.”
Ramirez Abadia — nicknamed ”Chupeta,” or lollipop in Colombian Spanish — is considered one of the ringleaders of the Norte del Valle drug cartel, Colombia’s most powerful. The United States had offered a $5 million reward for his capture.
In 1996 he was sentenced to 13 years in prison in Colombia on a drug conviction, but was released in 2001.
In January, authorities confiscated $90 million in various currencies that Ramirez Abadia had allegedly stashed in safe houses in the southern city of Cali, near the cartel’s base.

Previously Bon Dia Aruba had published that the Dutch investigative team returned to the Netherlands because of the vacation season and that the intention was to return next month to continue the investigations together with the Aruban team. After the Dutch team returned to the Netherlands, the Aruban team continued the necessary investigations.
Bon Dia Aruba understood from the Justice Department that the decision has been made to evaluate all the information produced by the investigations. This will take the necessary time and during the evaluation of the information it will be seen if assistance from the Netherlands is still necessary. If this is necessary they will be called to return but if this is not necessary, than the Justice Department will conclude from the gathered information what is going to happen with the Nataly [sic] Holloway case.
The Justice Department stipulated that in November 2007 a decision will be made with the Nataly [sic] Holloway case. The Justice Department will choose to commence a criminal case against the three suspects who are Joran van der Sloot and the brothers Kalpoe, or the Justice Department will decide that there is not sufficient evidence to start a criminal case and will let the case go.
It can be expected that whatever decision the Justice Department takes, this will have international coverage and possibly there will be members of the American press once more on Aruba to search for information and bring this into publicity as they see fit and consequently this could hurt the image of our island.

BTW, I got a reply earlier this month from the Florida governor’s office about my letter to the West Palm Beach county government protesting the selection of the Aruban bozo to preside over its tourism. I also slammed their rationale for choosing the scum; e.g., his “success” in helping offset the impact of the tourism boycott.
The letter didn’t say much of anything, but did say that a copy would be sent to the appropriate malefactors in West Palm Beach, and that I probably would be hearing from them too.

There was no damage to property. This wasn’t American style flooding, this was a lot of rain.
I’ve never claimed to no problems in hurricane season. (HELLO? IVAN?) I have claimed no hurricane in hurricane season in the last (at the very least) 100 years, if not 200.
And I come here quickly because I KNOW that something bad is going to be written. If an Aruban discovered a cure for cancer it’d be like: “Aruba, why do you need a cure for cancer, your brochures don’t mention cancer!”

Regarding trolls…
I realize you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and that those who have that insensitive and comparative-to-the-USA opinions/arguments about the Natalee case have grown up with their mindsets so there is probably no use trying to talk to them….however, I also believe that bad will prosper when good people do nothing to try to stop it so I keep trying to reason with our trolls, hoping to open new neuron pathways of thought outside their limitations imposed by how -and probably where- they grew up. I don’t mean to be feeding the trolls; it’s more like I’m trying to direct the digestion of what they have already been fed.
A life that is blind to justice for others- that only concerns itself with justice for themselves or simply getting away with doing whatever they want to without consequences- is a life that will be full of constant fear that such a path might not always work to their favor…and when it does not work the result is jail or some vigilante justice thing. When you do someone wrong, you have to be alert to your back all the time because you know someone might find you out no matter how well you think you’ve hidden your tracks or ‘rolled’ on someone else.
The result is a whirlpool of compounded fears that you can only ‘put on a happy face’ about because admitting you have made such a mess of your life by wrong choices unrepented or unforgiven is the very thing you run from, hence, your life becomes something it is not…you are living in a farce by making up being happy as if you did nothing when you know you did do wrong, and you are therefore making up the life you want to live while being afraid to actually live it. This equates to ‘running from yourself’ on a daily basis and makes you your own worst enemy.
But once something so bad that it would place you in jail has been chosen to do it’s hard to imagine feeling good about turning yourself in. But only because you would not forgive yourself do you think others would not forgive you either even after justice has been meted out so you think there is no real end to a bad choice so why fess up?
Of course there’s also those who are not in search of forgiveness but just want to go on making people believe in their alternate life that makes them appear as if there is nothing to forgive. This is Joran et als in my opinion and as such he will continue to live this way until he pushes the wrong button. And he thinks he’s so smart he can fool everyone so the odds are surely against him that he won’t ever be caught up in his arrogance; he will get dumber not smarter when he is not challenged appropriately and thinks his game is getting easier with experience ….and Paulus and Anita are enabling him to eventually fall HARD as in an effort to protect him they are encouraging his beliefs that he is untouchable and smart.
It’s hard to bail out once you are in the crapper, but as every day you sink deeper it only gets harder and only a fool would go deeper in the shits after they are already afraid of the beginnings of being in it.
IMO, Joran is a fool, and Paulus and Anita are fools. There are many fools involved in Natalee’s disappearance, but odds are one of them will get tired of the feeling and the fool’s game will end leaving the last fools standing in checkmate. Or let me familiar that to a poker game whereby many are playing in the beginning, some fold early and some continue to bluff along even with a bad hand hoping to fool the others into folding. In the end, only one wins and it is always the one with the REAL best hand…the one who did not lie.
So in case anyone who might know anything that would solve the Natalee case is reading here…think about your bluffs (coverups for a bad hand you were dealt)…you don’t know what hand the others are using to bluff you personally. You might think you’re all bluffing the game, but really -like in poker- you’re bluffing each other waiting for each other to fall. And you’re doing it blindly in hopes no one will call your hand out or PEEK AT YOUR CARDS….and peeking at your cards is what JVDS and PVDS can do…so who do you think is going down in the end and who is going to win if you keep quiet? Answer: the fool left standing and that just might be you if you don’t fold before you lose more than you already have!
