Will the Coast Guard Send Aruba to Collections … Aruba Behind in Payments

Aruba is behind in paying the Netherlands for coast guard payments. Does this mean that Aruba will be sent to collections? Aruba may want to check their credit history report. Why would anyone not want to pay fore the very people who prevent drug and human trafficking?

Aruba behind with payments coastguard

WILLEMSTAD/DEN HAAG – Aruba still has to pay the Netherlands 7.9 million guilders in coastguard payment arrears for the period of 1999-2002. The Netherlands has also not received the payments for 2007 yet, while the bill was sent early this year.

Defence-minister Eimert van Middelkoop (ChristenUnie) says that as answer on questions asked by the standing committees for Defence and for the Neth.Antillean- and Aruban Affairs. The committees say that the Neth.Antilles canceled all their payments for the coastguard.

Middelkoop writes that the coastguard is going to aim more for the control of human trafficking and illegal migration. The ministers of Justice of the three countries of the Kingdom have ordered that as part of judicial priorities for the coastguard. They did this because the Leeward- as well as the Windward Islands are being used as stepping stone for human trafficking purposes. Besides, the human trafficking was also mentioned in the recent report of the Scientific Research and Documentation Centre on Organized Crime and the Maintenance of Law and Order on St. Maarten.

In his letter to the Lower House, Minister Van Middelkoop also goes into the developments of the cross-border transportation of drugs to or from the Antilles. He says that there is an impression that qua method as well as route, the transporters of drugs use other routes than before. This is derived from among others the decrease in the number of drugs confiscated and the use of other vessels that the go-fasts, like regular fishermen boats and container ships.

ON the question which means the coastguard will use to set forth and intensify the cooperation process with France regarding the placing of radars on St. Maarten, Van Middelkoop reminds that a decision-making must first take place in the Minister Council for the Kingdom. “Possibilities to more operational cooperation with France, for example like placing some radar stations on the French part of St. Maarten and exchanging of information, will be considered.” The Netherlands brought the possibilities for cooperation in the field of people control and border traffic on St. Maarten to the attention of the French authorities in Paris during the bilateral judicial deliberation. “The good operational contacts between the coastguard and the French maintenance of law and order services in St. Maarten can be helpful as part of implementation questions”, said the minister.

I think we know the answer to that one…!!!

Did this report talk about … HUMAN TRAFFICKING?

      Hmmmm….

Well, we know that no boat can leave Aruba’s shores without it being known. How do we know this? Why, Deputy Police Chief Dompig said so.

And are we going to doubt HIM?

Take note: the headline of the article says that Aruba is behind on its payments. The text says that the Netherlands Antilles, presumably acting as a unit, CANCELED their payments.

What’s the Dutch term for a bounced check?

Of course, we’ve long been told that Aruba isn’t part of the Netherlands Antilles … hey, guys, are you using some kind of journalistic shorthand here? And weren’t we told that the Netherlands Antilles was/were moving toward independence … uh, hey, that was LAST week, bud. The story changes every day down there … I guess they take their cue from Joran van der Scum.

So what are you going to do about it all, Dutch?

Richard: Story about Netherlands Antilles does not change! There are FIVE island: Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius. They are all part of the Netherlands Antilles. They are ALL part of the Dutch Kingdom. Aruba is NOT part of the Netherlands Antilles anymore since 1986, BUT is STILL part of the Dutch Kingdom. It has since 1986 a Status Aparte.

Within 1 or 2 years, Curaca0 and St. Maarten will also have a Status Aparte (to be more independent). But they will be part of the Dutch Kingdom.

On the other hand, Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius will become a new kind of city and will be treated almost like any other Dutch city.

So within 2 years the Netherlands Antilles will be split into 3 islands with a Status Aparte and 3 cities on 3 different islands.

FL (#9) … Thanks for the info, but I’m aware of these islands and of Aruba’s status. The article seems to include them all under the heading of Netherlands Antilles, hence my comment.

ya know that was my thought also that aruba does not want the drugs stopped.. reason being they profit from that… so why would they want to stop lining their pockets with dirty money.. as was in the corruption of natalees case…

      Miss Katie,

Some of it has already come to pass on Paulus
Van der sloot, huh? The man is a slug. Everywhere he goes, he leaves behind a toxic ‘chem trail’
poisoning all of those poor souls unfortunate enough to get caught up in his wake.

Wherever the “man” (and I use the term ‘man’ very
liberally here) goes… lies, torment, death and destruction follow.

He is a sauntering nine foot snowman beast of torture, taunts, and misery.

They say he had some decent human qualities for like 5 minutes while he was a freshman in college, but I just can’t believe that! -j4n

    15. richard on June 25th, 2008 5:48 pm

Carpe … Don’t worry, he was just playing a game for those five minutes to see if anyone would notice.

I’ve long thought that key figures in the Aruba government and law enforcement are linked to the drug trade. Their supposed “alliance” with the U.S. anti-drug forces just enhances their worth to the traffickers … they can steer the Yanks to all other shipments than their own.

Aruba should have used the money they spent on travel shows to pay the coast guard.
