It is being reported by AWE24.com that a tourist woman was raped in Aruba. The woman went to the hospital accompanied by police. Could this be more bad PR for Aruba? An island that has still yet to recover from the disappearance and the handing of the case of Natalee Holloway. If true, this will be another situation not good for tourism.

UPDATE I: Confirmation of woman’s story in Aruba
We have talked to sources in Aruba and Jossy Mansur of Diario and have confirmed that a woman has reported a rape to police. The rape is reported to have occurred on Eagle Beach.
I was able to confirm the news. It happened on the Eagle Beach, in the area of the low-rise hotels. The victim did go to the hospital accompanied by the police. We don’t know yet if she was attacked by one or more persons. Those are the only details available for now but we will have the rest of the story sometime tomorrow.

There are several things that keep rolling around my little brain after multiple calls to multiple places today on Aruba…
#1…the ALE officer was so quick to tell me how very drunk she was…how she instigated the sex on the beach…and only filed rape charges against the innocent 3 local guys after they took photos of her…and she got mad….He know I was calling from the US…I always tell them right off the bat.
He was trying to illicit sympathy from me for the 3 guys.
#2 I called 3 other ALE agencies…and was told they had heard nothing about it.
#3 I called beach patrol…they knew…but seemed very anxious…and insisted I call early Monday AM to another # and name they gave to me…after jabbering all to each other in pap and raising their voices at each other…no laughing this time..like when I called them regarding the NH case a long time ago…
#4…the Call to Moombas…after telling my story…I was put on hold…then passed to the bar manager….we talked some…and at one point in our conversation he..out of the blue…asked me if I was the girls’ mother…that seemed very strange to me…
just mulling the days events over…TIA for any feedback…sometimes making these calls can be a bit draining…but I still give good phone….and the best on weekend..cause you get the weekend staff…the ones who feels left out of the loop on their own turf….they like to talk more….

My understanding is that she was an American. And that the police were trying to talk her out of pressing charges against anyone, saying essentially that it was her fault because she was drunk. There are other details, too … thanks a million, Destiny, for passing all of this on.
One wonders if the media are going to pay much attention, especially if this lady says that, as with Traci Allen and so many others (not even to mention what Beth and Dave have gone through), the Aruba police were indifferent or hostile.
We can be sure that our government and tourist industry will sit by with hands folded and say and do nothing. If we let them, that is.

What you say is what I recommend. I’ve outlined other things that we COULD have done in Natalee’s case, as in Amy Bradley’s … since the Dutch embassy oversees foreign affairs for Aruba, we could have summoned the Dutch ambassador for talks to show our concern.
We could have done other things.
But our own government did nothing.
We do have considerable influence. Unfortunately, for whatever reasons, our government chooses not to use it.
So we the people can, and should, react when a foreign government is complicit in a cover-up of a crime against an American citizen. And the cases of Natalee Holloway and Amy Bradley fit this category.

This case really does not surprise me. I think that in the eyes of Arabian police authorities any woman who comes to Aruba has consented to sex with who ever wants it just by setting foot on the island. That has been how Natalee’s case has been handled. They simply refuse to proceed with the case.
In what other case where you have a taped confession has a prosecution refused to proceed? I can’t think of any. They proceed in a lot of cases and get a convection in cases where a “cell mate” tells what he (usually) or she has been told by a cellie.
In the case of Joran, we have a full-blown taped confession (audio and video) where he admits he was with Natalee when she died. As Art Wood and others have said, criminals never admit fully to what they have done, especially a sociopath like young Joran.
Even if you believe only what Joran said in the video, there is enough to send hi to prison. However, what should be done is to bring him in and start asking him questions about his story, other parts will come out.
My interpretation from what Joran said on the video while with Patrick is as follows (in Joran’s words): I drugged Natalee, and while she was in and out of consciousness I raped her several times over a couple of hours. At one point she came to and struck out at me, hitting me in the face. I hit her repeatly and then strangled her until she had a seizure and died. I wrapped her body in plastic and put her in a dumpster at the lighthouse. She was small and limp. It was like handling a wet washrag. I coveded her body with material in the dumpster, so no one would see. It was her fault, she should not have made me angry. I feel no remorse. I had the right to do what I did, because she got in the car with me. I have always insisted on having my way. That is just how it is. No one will do anything with me, because of who I am. I am very important. I don’t deserve to be punished for something that was totally someone else’s fault.

I just read in the forum that ALE and the suspects claim the woman wanted to have sex with three guys after drinking at Moombas, she got mad that they took pictures and is only crying rape to get them into trouble. Had Joran been convicted of date rape with the use of drugs and murder in Aruba, he would have been sentenced to death. He was lucky to have a judge for a father who possibly paid authorities to release him and to have authorites empathize/sympathize with him hence turn a blind eye to her brutal end. However, I believe the country he was caught in recently does not have the death penalty. I don’t know what their prison system is like but I hope he does life in deplorable conditions.
I used to want to travel to Aruba. Not after what happened to Natalie Halloway’s case. I think it is a shame that more countries did not have the penalty for rape as the Middle East…either stoning, public beheading…or my favorite chopping off the (garden variety nutcase) rapist’s penis off in public. Is it any suprise that they have a low rate of rape in the Middle East? They shame Aruba and the United States. I would feel safer traveling to the Middle East.
