From Duke Lacrosse rape case to ethics charges … what a disaster. 
Who would have thought at the outset of the Duke Lacrosse rape story that the final day in court would be the Prosecutor being prosecuted? Sadly, that is what occurs today as Nifong faces ethics charges that could result in his disbarment. Mike Nifong is being brought up on ethics charges for his conduct during the Duke Lacrosse rape case. What will be the outcome, disbarment or business as usual?
In a case where there are so very few hero’s as even those they were not guilty of rape or who claim they are victims were guilty of behaving badly. Opportunist and former Duke Lacrosse coach, Mike Pressler, releases his book “It’s Not About the Truth: The Untold Story of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case and the Lives It Shattered,” at the same time that the Nifong trial begins. Before Pressler gets on his soap box, acts all high and mighty and further exploits this story for his monetary gain I would ask him to answer one question.
Where was your leadership with this team prior to this scandal? Why was it possible for the Duke community to believe that a rape could have actually occurred by the LAX team? Maybe its because you provided no direction and no leadership to your players where it counted, not on the field but off. You created an atmosphere and mind set for the LAX team where others thought that such allegations of rape were possible with in Duke. For that reason alone, you had to go.
John Burness, Duke’s senior vice president for public affairs, released a statement yesterday saying: “Unfortunately, last spring it was essential for the men’s lacrosse team to have a change of leadership in order to move forward. We regret the negative consequences this decision had on Coach Pressler. He and Duke reached an amicable, fair settlement. . . .” (WAPO)

Is it EVER about the truth anymore?
Oh please, like this stuff doesn’t go on across the nation on the majority of college campuses. These aren’t kids we are talking about but adults and people over 18. These coaches aren’t baby sitters. They only have so much control over these individuals. How do noise violations and other “minor” acts of ignorance relate to whether or not these boys commited rape? It doesn’t and you can’t connect the dots to make it that way. If Mike Nfiong would have bothered to investigate properly, NONE of this would have ever occurred. Better yet, if the girl wasn’t a lying piece of trash, NONE of this would have ever happened. The coach was railroaded and used as a scapegoat by the University. I am sick and tired of people (i.e. John Feinstein) bashing this coach and these kids because they were acting like most college athletes, students across the country. If it wasn’t a school as prestiges as Duke, this would have been back page material.
I agree with Scott. I hope Pressler makes a mint off his book, as he suffered permanent damage from this. He built the Duke lacrosse program into a national contender, and now he’s coaching at a tiny little Division II school in Rhode Island.
The Duke lacrosse team acted no worse than drunken frat boys do at every college in the country. If colleges want to stop that crap, those with honor systems should make underage drinking an honors violation and suspend anyone caught doing it for a year. That would break it up.
I also agree with Scott and Postahchild…for Pete’s sake, these are college students having a party, not attending a church social. None of us know what went on and I’m sure none of us ever will, but it isn’t against the law to hire a stripper. Time for the morality police to relax. I’m a rape survivor and believe me I know all about the violence of rape. I don’t know if a rape occurred, but I also don’t know if a rape didn’t occur. As a survivor the last thing I want is the wrong person punished or imprisoned. I don’t know about anyone else but it wouldn’t satisfy me just to have somebody arrested and jailed — it needs to be the person who committed the crime, if there was a crime.

For all those that want to defend the ex-Duke LAX coach you probably have no understanding what NCAA rules are that govern the conduct of athletes.
For all of you that think I am speaking from a tea-toddling position ,,, hardly. I played college sports.
Even though in many cases things slip by, when such actions are made public a school cannot sit idly by. Even though hiring a stripper is not illegal, underage drinking is. One of the biggest problems from the outset of the charges was that Pressler did not suspend anyone for anything. WHY? Because the program was out of control and this type of behavior was business as usual.
The coach had an out of control program. PERIOD! There is a reason why that the DUKE community and students turned against the LAX team in the beginning. The reason was because they thought it was possible.
Do not defend the actions of the team by the bad actions of a FRAT. That’s just plain ignorant.
Pressler had an out of control team who’s players were constantly in trouble.
Granted NIFONG should lose his job, however, spare me that Pressler is a victim. He has a job as a coach. He failed. Just because you create a National Champion team should never mean people will look the other way when there are violations.
The point is that Pressler created an environment where his players could get caught up in what because the Duke LAX rape scandal. Their actions were going to escalate into trouble.
I guarantee you that the present day standards for Duke LAX are much different. If that is the case, why is that?
R
