Americans by a 65% to 26% Disapprove of How President Barack Obama is Handling the Increasing Price of Gas

President Barack Obama has a gas problem …

President Obama has a new reelection problem that will not soon go away and pretty much affects every American.  The ever increasing gas prices in the US have most Americans angered with the Presidents actions, or lack there of. According to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, Americans by a broad 65% to 26% disapprove of how Obama is handling the price of gas.

More than half of Americans for the first time expect Barack Obama to be re-elected — but that won’t make it easy: Even as expectations have moved his way, rising gas prices have dented the president’s rating on handling the economy, his overall job approval has slipped back under 50 percent and he’s reverted to a dead heat in public preferences against Mitt Romney.

The results of the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll mark two political realities: One, the sharp division of public attitudes for and against Obama, with continued greater intensity of sentiment among his critics. And two, the damaging political effects of rising gasoline prices, which have surpassed the federal budget deficit as Obama’s single weakest issue.

Americans by a broad 65-26 percent disapprove of how the president is handling the price of gas, which has gained 49 cents a gallon this year to an average $3.79.

WAPO – Gas prices sink Obama’s poll numbers

Full polling results can be seen HERE.

As Time states, Obama has slipped in polls against GOP rivals. This occurring when the GOP is attacking each other, imagine what will happen when the focus os on Obama and his first faled term in office?  With all due respect to the MSM and Obama’s minions, they can spin his polling numbers and the so-called job recovery all they want; however, Obama fails miserably on the two biggest issues of the moment, the economy and gas prices.   Obama’s approval rating on handling the economy has lost 6 points in a month, to 38%. Couple that with 26% approval with the handling of gas prices and the overwhelming want for Americans to repeal Obamacare … Barack, you have a serious problem.Just curious, how disingenuous are those who give Obama 38% on the economy and 26% in dealing with gas prices, yet want him reelected. Seriously?

To make matters worse, Obama’s anti-oil and fossil fuel agenda is only going to be made worse for the summer months when “Summer” gas blends are instituted and Obama’s continued doubling down on failed “green” energy projects.

Barack Obama has stated that there is no silver bullet to fix the gas price issue; however, doing nothing and being against oil at all cost, even if it means not creating jobs. This will come back to haunt Obama in a major way in 2012. There is no way Obama is going to be able to justify his actions to the American voter when they are paying $4 and $5 a gallon for gas.

NRO reminds us of some Americans amnesia when it comes to if a President has the ability to affect gas prices. My how things have changed when the same question was asked whether GWB and increasing gas prices. I thought Obama was the most intelligent President ever and all-knowing Obamamessiah? Guess not. Talk about a low bar that the Obama Administration is held to.

They asked, “Do you think there’s anything the Obama administration reasonably can do to reduce gasoline prices, or do you think gas prices have risen because of factors beyond the administration’s control?” They found 50 percent responded the administration can do something; 45 percent said “beyond their control.”

Back in May 2006, 62 percent thought that the Bush administration could do something about the price of gas, and only 35 percent thought it was beyond their control.

More than half of Americans for the first time expect Barack Obama to be re-elected — but that won’t make it easy

Mitt (can’t score my secret economic plan) Romney will make it easy!

SM: When push comes to shove we shall see is Americans will be tools and pawns of the Party or want real change. Sorry, but a President (regardless of political party) should never be reelected if your economic policy is support is in the 30′s and your handling of the gas situation in the 20′s. Forget the fact that the debt is out of control. Oh yea, and everyone hates Obamacare.

Anyone who votes for Obama while not supporting what he has done has much explaining to do. Mainly to themselves.

It is time that the states with large tracts of federal land begin a process to force the federal government to do what it should have done when those territories became states. Turn the land over to the states.

If the states controlled the land, much of our drilling and development problems would be solved.

I love how everyone that said “Bush can’t do anything about gas prices!” are now the ones saying “Why isn’t Obama doing anything about gas prices?!” The simple fact is that the president has little to no control over this issue. Oil speculators, and all of this ridiculous war talk about Iran are to blame.

SM: Actually you would be either incorrect, misinformed or just drinking the Obama Kool-Aid. From past ABC/WAPO polls, the numbers are quite different from what you are saying, Every MSM outlet was running stories of what should W do about gas. Please, stop spinning and putting out false facts.

The fact is that Obama wants higher gas prices, that is how he gets to his green agenda forcing it on America.

@5…….what false facts did D put out??

also funny that you use a poll to back yourself up.
because we all know that polls are the truth

You can thanks those biblethumping GOP candidates, because war with Iran will certainly drive down those oil prices……
      ______________
SM: You think its funny that I use a poll … really, does it amuse you, is it that funny? I do not mean to point out the obvious, but a poll is a cross section of what Americans felt at the time. Really?

Do a google search and see all the articles that were done about GWB and cost of Gas. The MSM nightly news was constantly running stories about high price of gas. I am guess you just missed it.

Please don’t argue points that are indefensible. It makes any point you are trying to make that has validity, to appear foolish. There is a liberal MSM bias in the US and they ran stories asking what W was going to do about high price of oil.

Both sides have their heads up in the BS (or is it their elbows deep in)

oh yes, I hold so much value to polls…..
esp. for politics, you can get any answer you’d like, its a matter how you frase the question.

and no, didn’t miss it, gas prices only went down during the financial meltdown due to less demand.
besides…our prices are twice as high, maybe its an idea to go for more fuel effiency?

and ofcourse they should grill Obama as much as Bush on the subject.

and seeing how Fox is the no.1. news agency…would not make that them mainstream?

    8. D on March 14th, 2012 10:25 pm

False facts? A poll does not equal facts. Lmao. Nice try with the propaganda though. The facts are presidents have little to no control over gas prices, no matter how much you Fox News wannabes wish he did.

Fox was defending Bush like crazy about gas prices, and now they’re saying it’s Obama’s fault. Talk about hypocrites. The fact is neither of them have control over it. But the radicals running for GOP presidential nominee do have influence with all their war mongering against Iran.

Of course the main problem comes from the speculators that drive up the price, but no one ever talks about that.

SM: Really, the Prez cannot affect gas prices? C’mon Man … I know just because its Obama, the bar is set lower. I would think that The Almighty Obama could reverse the flow of rivers, gas prices would be child’s play.

Please, if Obama increased drilling on federal land, increased drilling in the Gulf Coast and actually came up with a comprehensive energy plan that was not centered on kelp, but instead had short, medium and long term goals … the price would drastically go down. The mere fact that America would look to become energy independent, not independent from oil, independent from the Middle East the prices would go down. Obama is clueless, he is all for conservation, but not for drilling. Both would add to the supply. We would also need new refineries built as well as other comprehensive energy resources tapped.

I have no issue to getting to bio-fuels, wind, solar, etc … however, we are so far away from that to say we need it now is insane.

People want cheep energy and gas not green.
