George W. Bush Declines President Obama’s Offer for a Photo Op at Ground Zero in NYC

Barack Obama, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression …

Former President George W. Bush has declined an invitation from Barack Obama to go to Ground Zero following the killing of terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden. As reported at the Politico, GWB declined stating he is out of the media spotlight and pretty much wants to keep it that way.

Former President has already been at Ground Zero … NYC and America will never forget

Former President George W. Bush has turned down President Barack Obama’s invitation to join him at ground zero on Thursday, citing his desire to avoid the media glare.

“President Bush appreciated the invite, but has chosen in his post-presidency to remain largely out of the spotlight,” Bush spokesman David Sherzer told POLITICO in an email Tuesday night. “He continues to celebrate with all Americans this important victory in the war on terror.”

Obama — who has sharply criticized Bush for neglecting the hunt for bin Laden by invading Iraq — made the offer to Bush shortly after he decided on his New York trip, according to two people familiar with the situation.

President Barack Obama had an opportunity the day that the news was announced that Osama Bin Laden had been killed to invite GWB to the White House and have a joint presser. That would have gone a long way to mend fences and bring the country together. Obama could have made political hay to have had GWB, the president who began the hunt for Bin Laden and laid the groundwork to do so, and the current president, the one who gave the order to kill Osama, both on the podium at the same time. However, instead since the death of Bin Laden was announced, Obama and his minions have continued to not give credit to the former president. As stated at Weasel Zippers, it was a wise choice by W.

I can only ask the question … why is Obama going to Ground Zero? I would like to think that this is more than a shameless Photo Op by Obama to use in a future campaign commercial, but I cant see its purpose. Personally, I believe, as does Jammie Wearing Fool, this is in poor taste for Obama to do a victory lap at Ground Zero. He plans to meet with certain families, exactly how is it decided which families he meets with? Wasn’t Barack Obama just in NYC a week again going fund raiser? Hmm, he could not find during his “serious” business to find time to go to Ground Zero and meet with any families then? I guess they were not a priority or a photo op then.

UPDATE I: As I was writing the above post I came across the following story at the “Lonely Conservative” that is 100% on point. KUDOS! Please take a trip over and read … “After Running Against Every Policy He Employed to Kill Bin Laden, Obama Will Go to Ground Zero to Declare Victory”.

If one thinks about it, why would George Bush agree to be with Obama at Ground Zero when Obama condemned Bush for how he pursued the war on terror? To this day Obama refuses to admit that it was “waterboarding” and the presence of GITMO that gave rise to gather the intelligence and begin the process of years to the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

A magnanimous gesture by Obama but also understandable that W. declined,it would be too painful the man who was unable to catch Osama vs the victorious President rightfully claiming this victory.

Good for George! To even be seen with a guy that constantly contrasted his policies in an underhanded way to get himself elected is insanity.

Obummer to Bush: “You drove us into the ditch, Your policies are the reason we have a Mooselim problem, The whole world hates us because of you, but Hey do you want to go out for a beer later and maybe stop by Ground Zero while we’re out?, It would sure help me out with this poll problem I’m having. C’mon please, please, please…

Dubya has more class and honor than President Obama has in his entire body.

IMOO, I feel that GWB did wish to stay in the background and keep it low key instead of taking the limelight away from the current Commander-in-Chief.

Sometimes, silence says what words cannot as GWB graciously declined the invitation. I’m sure no one will ever really know of the conversation the 2 Presidents shared on the day that Obama placed the call to his residence in Texas.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND PAKISTAN SUCKS

It just goes to show the differences of character of the two Presidents. GWB has character & class. BHO has no character & no class. GWB loves this Country & the Military and BHO hates this Country & the Military. See how that works? The liberals and their hypocricy can’t give credit where credit is due and GWB not looking for recognition. The liberals praising Obama as if he’s some kind of God and condemning Bush for the same policies that ultimately led to the death of the World’s Most Dangerous Terrorist.

We can’t even get a straight answer out of this Administration. The story keeps changing. If not for the bravery and professionalism of The Navy Seals this would not have been possible, yet Obama takes credit as if this was his idea all along. The left cricized Bush on his policies, about Gitmo, about waterboarding and then keep Gitmo open and keep his policies in place but will not admit that waterboarding played a part in getting information on how to find OBL. This administration can’t sell water in the desert.

You know, after the way he treated John Roberts and the other Supreme Court justices, and then later, Paul Ryan, if I were George Bush and Obama invited me to some event, I’d refuse, too. And if Rudy Giuliani is smart, he will, as well.

    10. Scott on May 4th, 2011 2:11 pm

Bush is a real man while we all know what Obama is…

I love the fact that he’s taking 98% of the credit; when the operation started in 2003 under George Bush. Wow…Obama, you said two whole words…”do it.” Wow…I wonder how that doesn’t conflict with his Noble Peace Prize.

And now, no photo? Does he really think that Bin Laden’s death isn’t enough for those crackpots over there? They don’t care if we don’t release the photo or not, they still hate us. They don’t care that we gave a mass murderer a proper Muslim burial, they still hate us.

Way to go Obama, way to take something so historic and gratifying and make into saving face amongst Muslims….UNREAL.

Wise. I say wise because the contrast between the guy who couldn’t/wouldn’t capture public enemy #1 and the guy who did would lead to many far right republican heads exploding.

Bush’s humiliation must be unbearable. To be perceived as such an monumental failure in his country’s eyes, it must haunt him ’round the clock.

Best he stay on the ranch and play cowboy/clear brush.

Obama had very little if any thing to do with the capture of bin Laden . The very place and the very manner in which the information was gained that lead to the knowledge of his were-about were abhorrent to Obama.

Obama just happen to be the occupant of the White House when it came down, like a captain asleep at the wheel of a large ship that just happen to run down a boat load of pirates. It could just as easily have run aground.

Those who do the real work in the shadows are to credit for this. Those same people that President Bush placed in their positions of authority. These were the same young men who were trained under the Bush administration.

What about the Contrast between President Clinton (DEM) who could not catch Obama back in the early 90′s? Do you want to know why he still got re-elected. Because the economy was doing well and there were plenty of jobs before he was derailed a lied to the American Public about the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Bush does not need the accolades of the photo op at 9/11 to know he made the right decision. The person who should really get the credit is Leon Panetta — he, with the backing of Gates, Petraeus, and Clinton, and against the resistance of Valerie Jarrett, made the call without the president’s total consent.

Are you libtard SHEEPLE that dumb to think Obama was the one who actually took down Bin Laden when the FACTS smack your wussy faces straight in your mouth?

FACT: Name of courier was given in 2003 by KSM after “enhanced interrogation techniques.”
FACT: Name of courier was verified by other thugs at Gitmo.
FACT: KSM asked again about this courier; his response raises red flags and our military begins surveillance or this courier.
FACT: all this done under George Bush’s watch.

Your lack of intelligent thought on what actually went down is down right stupid.

      Typical p***fied view from liberals….

It’s like a running back; carrying the team down the field and on the 1 yard line they give it to another running back for the score.

GWB did the hard leg work; Obama gave an order that ANY President sans Bill Clinton would give. It was a no-brainer.

Funny, you idiots, do NOT realize that it was the same GWB policies that Obama campaigned AGAINST; that Obama in the end kept in place; that ended up in the death of Bin Laden. You libtard SHEEPLE are so contradictory it’s not even funny.

It’s like Nancy Pelosi in 2006 saying it would no big deal if we caught Bin Laden and that it was five years too late; then turns around yesterday and says it’s historic. LOL…. Can’t make that hypocrisy up you tools!

      Mark – get a life loser….

      Waterboy—No problem.

I think we all hit this thread so hard but you are good, Jerry.

I was talking to Dolf-who always adds his comments from over there in Amsterdam. (((Sigh))) Sorry, I dislike being rude but some people need to be put in their place. If you are not an American, I could care less what you think or say about our Country. I am becoming much less tolerant in this PC world in my State anyway, which overrun with ILLEGAL CRIMMIGRANTS. It’s disgusting. And I just ratted a ILLEGAL BRAZILIAN BUSINESS OWNER OUT to DNS who also had a fake GREEN CARD WIFE (and she was paid handsomely for that) to marry a Puerto Rican so she could work here legally putting 16 and 17 year old scantily clad young Ladies up on her bar to dance every night and make money. Deportation for the lovely Brazilian and a 5 year Sentence for the Puerto Rican. Buh Bye. And, no I am not Racist, just sick of the scammers in this State who use and abuse our legal and Social Welfare Systems.

      PEACE ! =)

    30. Waterboy on May 5th, 2011 10:50 pm

      NGBoston,

I use to have sympathy for the illegals from Mexico. That was before they started killing us.

I grew up in a house that was back to back with a very large ranch. One of the largest in the world at the time.

illegals would sneak into our neighbor’s front yard and get water. She watched them day after day, and finally got irritated, and called the Border Patrol.

The Border Patrol came and arrested over 20 illegals, who were camped out just a few hundred yards from our house. They gave our neighbor a reward of $50 (I can’t remember the exact amount) per illegal.

There was a run on binoculars, as the neighbors heard about the reward and started thinking about what they could do with a thousand dollars. We didn’t see any illegals for a long time.

      #30-Hi, Jerry:

Raised as a Catholic, I was always taught to help thy neighbor, and help anyone in a position not able to care for themselves.

I am a big believer in taking some of my good luck, or at least my labor and big heart and giving back to those less fortunate than us, REGARDLESS of their race. I have, and it’s a rewarding feeling to help a Single struggling Mother put food on their table so her kids can eat.

However, I face a dilemma as I see so much abuse and the Caucasian fast becoming the minority here in Mass. I don’t care what your skin color is- I will help anyone who is dignified and worthy. It is God’s way as a Christian to help those who cannot help themselves. Where my dilemma comes in is what about those who come here ILLEGALLY, then scam our system? Those are the ones I want kept out of our borders. Be honest, trust in the Lord, respect thy fellow Man, and good fortune can come to anyone here in the States.

Lately, it’s been a tough gig for everyone. Pretty sad when in this State, College Grad’s with a Business Degree from say, Bentley College are forced to take jobs at Fresh City or other local eateries for minimum wage bc they can’t find a “real” job anywhere else. Wow…..just wow! But you bet your bottom dollar, if he wanted to make, say $9.00 an hour- he could go work for a local Landscaping Company who hires illegals and works them like dogs to landscape wealthy Homeowners lawns in Newton or Winchester. Go figure.

      =/
