Harry Reid, DREAM ON … Dream Act Blocked by US Senate 55 to 41

Hey Harry Reid and Democrats … DREAM ON!

“Dream On” – Live from Aerosmith Boston 2009

The DREAM Act once again failed to break a filibuster in the Senate on Saturday morning, effectively killing the bill this year. The next time this will be an issue is the 2012 election. The Senate blocked the Dream Act, a bill that was nothing more than backdoor amnesty,  that  would have created a path to citizenship for certain young illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children, completed two years of college or military service and met other requirements, including passing a criminal background check.

The vote was 55 – 41,  Roll call vote can be seen HERE.

Senate Democrats came up five votes short of the 60 needed to advance the House-passed bill. The vote was pretty much along party lines; however, three Republican Senators, Lugar (IN), Bennet (UT) and Murkowski (AK) supported democrats on the legislation. Thank you for nothing Alaska for reelecting a RINO that can be counted on for nothing.

As for Democrats, 5 voted  with Republicans to block the dream act. Obviously done by Democrats who wish to be reelected in 2012 and a vote for the Dream Act would have followed these Senators like Obamacare did to those who went down to defeat in 2010.

But five Democrats voted against the legislation: Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and both Montana Democrats, Jon Tester and Max Baucus. West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin announced his opposition to the DREAM Act Saturday in a statement Saturday but missed the vote.

Democrats best get their priorities straight when it comes to illegal immigration. Protect the borders first, then we might discuss immigration reform. Hopefully the next Congress will put the “illegal” back in illegal immigration.

Typical xenophobic fear-mongering here. Illegal immigrants are not eeeeeeeeeevil scumbags out to steal our jobs, they are people who took the best possible option out of several bad options. And their kids didn’t get any choice at all.

Hell, depending on how bad things get in the next 20 or so years, you and I could be stuck with the decision of either staying in our home country and living in hideous poverty or immigrating illegally and getting spat on by conservatives in richer countries.

SM: What part about rule of law don’t you get fool? You act like Mexico does not have immigration laws? How about these piss poor countries get their act in gear so their people do not need to leave?

I have an idea, since you are such a bleeding lib, put your money where your mouth is. Give up you home, immigration status and job to an illegal and you go where they came from in a swap.

Sorry fool, but the USA is the most benevolent country in the world. However, illegal is illegal. Let’s not enforce other laws to. IDIOT!

SM: No Dolf … you conveniently forgot the word “ILLEGAL”!!! They are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. So sorry if we wish to follow the rule of law. Do you not think that every country has laws on immigration? You cant just go and live where you damn please. Does not work that way.

#3: you are the poster child for democratic
ignorance and stupidity.sort of like your
      president.

      Yeah so?

This is a law wich COULD provide a way to citizenship.

Or do you think that 1 should never become a legal resident?
      __________________
SM: yes, leave the country and do it how all others who came here legally. Why should illegal acts be given a priority over others who came to America legally and went thru the process? Yea, just get in line where ever you want and get rewarded. It didn’t work in the Elementary scholl lunch line and it does not work with immigration.

I beleive in guest worker programs; however, no way in hell does that mean you can become a citizen. It means you have the right to work here.

Have you ever worked as a foreign national in a country that is not of your birth? You have to provide a reason why you are there, you have to provide a reason why you are taking a job away from one of their citizens, you have to provide a reason why you are of importance and in many countries, you have to provide a mwans of leaving the country, ie a return ticket back to your place of origin.

To be fair, as far as how this was voted on; it was primarily the Republican caucus that voted to blocked this.

    8. Dolf on December 20th, 2010 2:56 pm

      That depends Red

my US friends have a whole lot less trouble then the Nigerian guy I know.

another thing…How can 1 complete 2 years of college when your illegal?
      ____________
SM: You cant and not should a place be taken by an illegal.
BTW, the way this bill was worded it had an open ended date you could declare yourself for the program. I might contemplate some ways that illegal kids, not theur parents could become legal. However, it would be only after a wall akin to the Great Wall of China was rerected between Mexico and a moat filled with cocks.
