I have a question for Dana’s Thursday night show. My question is for Jossy Mansur. I would like to know how readers of his newspaper can consider him to be a journalist with any credibility at all, in regard to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, with photos floating around the internet of Anita van der Sloot literally being embraced at a Mansur family gathering recently? I assume that I understand correctly that it was a party for the granddaughter of Jossy Mansur? If I am not correct I apologize.

Wow! Did not see that coming. I have no comment about the things Tim Miller said about Beth Holloway other than to say that, if he wants to say that kind of stuff about the mother of a missing person, I hope he is happy with himself.

It was good to hear that the investigatin on Aruba is still open and active, and that the FBI is still actively involved. It was also good to hear that Aruban investigators and the FBI are totally on the same page at this point. That kind of contradicts a lot of the misinformation that has been spread about the status of the investigation and the integrity of the investigation on Aruba. Glad to see someone in the know finally set the record straight.

    3. Living in Stereo on September 22nd, 2010 8:11 pm

      WATT the F#@K Steph.

You are a disgrace, no wonder you have been relagated to your “independent” status. BTW, what a great voice for radio, NOT! You might also want to take some remedial interviewing lessons while you are at it as well.

You are lower than low to attack a mother of a victim of crime. BTW Steph, when you were in the MSM did you not make $’s off the story of Natalee as well?

Why would you & Tim Miller even be discussing this rather than discussing a missing persons case? Steph, you have always been a putz, but Mr. Miller, you have disappointed many.

You owe Beth and all here at Scared Monkeys an apology.

    4. Lisa in Maryland on September 23rd, 2010 12:50 am

Dana, although I have not heard what Watts and Miller said on the program I have no reason not to believe you. The way I see it is there are two sides to the reporting line one is responsible reporting and commentary such as your show and then there is irresponsible reporting and commentary such as Nancy Grace which I view as a sensationalistic Side Show! Three Ring Circus if I may.

I’m so very surprised to hear that Tim Miller, of all people would say such things about Beth. Yes, I agree that there are many missing who don’t have a voice but that is the VERY ESSENCE of what Beth is doing. She is always with her petal to the metal to make sure that Natalee has a VOICE through her and by ANY MEANS that she can find. As a mother of a missing child that is her duty IMO.

If remuneration is considered it certainly is not the point or the driving factor and Tim Miller of all people should and does know that!

Let me ask them this… For Five long yrs. Beth has fought not only to find her daughter but also to get the word out to young people across the nation to take heed, to be prepared, to find safety in numbers, to have a plan of action in case of trouble and to be safe when traveling outside the US. How do you put a price tag on the one life (if not more) that she has saved because of her misfortune?

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes Beth has found a way to not only become the voice of Natalee but also to contribute, not just to her community but to our nation as a whole! They should stand with us to cheer her on.

    5. redpetals12 on September 23rd, 2010 1:47 am

Excuse me Mr. Miller, but didn’t you make a name for yourself and Equisearch with case? Have you not traveled to Aruba to solve this case to benefit yourself by being the hero and the “go to guy” for the next case? Not to mention, scaredmonkeys giving you ALL the promotional “plugs” for the last 5 years. I think you should PUBLICLY apologize to Beth. Could I go so far to say that you are in this business b/c of a heartstring of your own…so how would you feel if the tables were turned!? Enough said… I am disappointed and have lost all respect for you! As for Steph…well, if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck….no surprise there.

    6. texasmom on September 23rd, 2010 3:15 am

      I’m pissed off too Dana!

      Great commentary, I agree completely!

      Response to #1 cvc

I’ve viewed hundreds of pictures of Oriana Mansur’s birthday party and even posted several in the forum here at SM. There were some of Oriana’s grandparents in them. None of those pictures had a van der Sloot in them, or even nearby from what I could tell…and believe me I was looking! Oriana Mansur is Sebastian van der Sloot’s age and also attends the International School of Aruba. Anita van der Sloot is or probably has been at some time one of her teachers. I am of the opinion that Oriana and her parents…more than likely…not her grandparents…decided who would be invited to this party that many attended. From what I’ve gathered through the social pages Oriana Mansur is a friend of Sebastian van der Sloot. The pictures of Anita van der Sloot with Oriana’s mother and several other women were disgusting to me too, and at least one of those women claims to be a journalist. I’ve seen her sig line on articles for Radio Netherlands Worldwide and she has also been interviewed concerning the case by some Dutch media. She may have married well by Aruba standards but she slums around with the likes of Julia Renfro and Renee Gielen; and is party to the lies they propagate. I must say, I think Anita should have felt honored (that she was even invited…considering) and at least dressed more appropriately.

Jossy can’t be expected to control who his grown children associate with or choose his grandchildren’s friends in order to be respected as a journalist…even regarding this case IMO.

From my observations and from statements from Beth…he has stood by her and supported Natalee’s family, in his newspaper, and in any other way he could even when no one else on that island would.

      JMO

    7. Greg the Mongoose on September 23rd, 2010 7:40 am

Steph Watts and Tim Miller Egos are too big for the media.

    8. cvc on September 23rd, 2010 8:18 am

Credibility is the most important quality a journalist can have. Are you defending the fact that Anita van der Sloot is a close, family, friend? Or are you agreeing with me? I have tried to look at it from my own perspective. If there was an alleged murderer of young girls in my small community and the Editor of the newspaper’s family was inviting the mother of that alleged murderer to family gatherings…well, it is fairly easy to see how it would look. I usually agree with most that you say on the Forum Texas mom. But here you are saying two different things and not committing to either point of view. Just like Tim Miller was given a god-like personna at the beginning of the search for Natalee, Jossy Mansur was also seen as a champion for Natalee. After seeing those pictures on the forum I think everyone needs to remove all the haloes from these people’s heads and just hold them accountable for what they are being paid to do. Tim Miller was right about one thing in that interview, he said that the media has profitted from Natalee’s disappearance. Jossy Mansur is a huge part of the Aruban media and has been all over the American media. Stop making these people heroes. Tim Miller has no business being as deeply involved in this case as he is. He does not have the qualifications or the credentials. He really should not be speaking for anyone. Just my opinion. I am trying to stay objective and I’m trying not to get blinded by the haloes.

    9. texasmom on September 23rd, 2010 1:16 pm

      cvc,
I have no idea if Anita is a close family friend of the elder Jossy Mansur or not. I simply stated what I have observed and my opinion on the matter. In doing that I didn’t intend to answer your question to Jossy, I only intended to share my thoughts about it.

Perhaps Jossy will answer the question if asked.

    10. Its Me on September 23rd, 2010 2:41 pm

I believe Mr. Miller has profited by the Holloway case. So lets remember Mr. Miller, It takes one to know one.

    11. cvc on September 23rd, 2010 3:59 pm

I seem to recall on the SM Forum that when the photos of the Mansur granddaughter’s party were posted someone asked about the connection between the Mansurs and Anita van der Sloot. I recall that the answer to the question was that there has been a long-time family connection that still continues to this day despite all this stuff in Aruba. I would love to know Jossy’s answer to my question, that is why I asked it. I appreciate your answer Texas Mom, but I did not understand exactly how credibility as a journalist can just be a part-time thing. Like, “I’m only credible when my granddaughter is not having a party…I’m only credible when we are not having company over…” That is not the way credibility works.
Also, was Jossy’s son really on the Persistence every day during the water search for the fish trap and Natalee’s remains? I wish Jossy could address that too on the show. What did his son see? What are his son’s feelings about what happened out there? What exactly happened the day the Aruban LE took the trap and the evidence? I mean, Jossy is a newspaper editor, right? He should have had a million questions for his son. I think we would all like to hear what happened from his son’s point of view. Why was his son out there every day?
While I’m on the subject, why, when Joran was on the lam from Peru, did Jossy’s paper run an article telling the exact location that the manhunt for Joran was focusing on in Chile? Who did that serve to benefit? Just a few questions for Saint Jossy.

    12. cvc on September 23rd, 2010 4:38 pm

I’m sorry that I have been off-thread with the Jossy Mansur thing. I also have a question about Tim Miller and his interview with Steph. Tim Miller is by trade a general contractor. I realize his daughter was killed and that is how he began organizing searches for missing people. I realize that with TM’s help bodies have been found and that even a few live victims have been recovered. My question is how and when did he become the “expert” as far as investigations of missing people are concerned? How did he go from search organizer, a very noble gesture no doubt, to being so deeply involved in the investigation of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway to the point that he is doing interviews and speaking out against the mother of this missing (actually murdered) girl? Tim Miller is a general contractor! I believe his reputation as a professional investigator was bestowed on him by people who were more like TM groupies. I’m not sure who changes their stories more often, Joran van der Sloot of Tim Miller. He’s a general contractor, if you want to interview him then ask him about roof shingles. As far as investigations go, interview someone with some real credentials who does not live on Aruba.

Incidents of piracy off the coast of Venezuela remain a concern. Recent attacks have been especially violent, including the murder of a U.S. citizen on his boat in November 2008, and the killing of a French yachter in September. Over 10 attacks on foreign tourists in Venezuelan coastal waters and around Margarita Island have been reported in 2008. Previous violent attacks include the severe beating of a U.S. citizen in 2002, the fatal shooting of an Italian citizen in January 2004, and a machete attack on a U.S. citizen in 2005. U.S. citizen yachters should note that anchoring off shore is not considered safe. Marinas, including those in Puerto la Cruz and Margarita Island (Porlamar), provide only minimal security, and U.S. citizens should exercise a heightened level of caution in Venezuelan waters. Please consult the U.S. Coast Guard web site at http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-o/g-opr/g-opr.htm for additional information on sailing in Venezuela. this excerpt can be found at this web address which is the official government website keep in mind aruba is just off the coast of venezwala. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1059.html

Maybe Steph Watts should investigate Adam Walsh next. After all he makes money off his TV show. Or maybe Mr. Klaas –sarcasm– You know each of the people have different rolls and each needs money to inform the public and each needs money to live on. I read a lot of personal in Tim’s comments about Beth and his stand up for Dave. Sounds like Tim has gotten involved in the middle of two divorced people. What a shame.

    19. Scott on September 24th, 2010 12:40 pm

Tim Miller should be ashamed of himself in regards to his remarks about Beth.

The woman wants answers just like Tim did when his daughter went missing. The problem is Tim got very big headed and ego driven from ALL the publicity from this case.

I think Tim is embarrassed that some Dutch crime reporter has gotten further in finding out the truth of this case than Tim.

What that island did that woman and her family is beyond dispicable.

    20. A Texas Grandfather on September 24th, 2010 8:40 pm

I think Tim is miffed because he was not included in the Dutch documentary.

He of all people should know that it takes money to do the work that he performs and Beth has certainly demonstrated that she will never give up in the search for answers to Natalee’s disappearance. It takes money to do that.

Who knows, Joran is a sociopath and they like to tell tall tales with some bit of truth included. She may be able to piece together the real story one day.

I have not heard or read the content of her lectures to parents and teens about personal safety in traveling. This case has global resonance and her work like Walsh and Klauss is instrumental in preventing other parents from making mistakes like she made.

Eighteen year old children are not adults and parents need to understand that they do not have the skills to properly protect themselves in dangerous situations.

    21. AmberAlert Haleigh on October 6th, 2010 1:34 am

Even from a distance Tim MIller frightens me. He appears to thrive on the cases that involve pretty, Caucasian young females who are never found. Perhaps that is why he thrives on them; rather than search for and find a high number of missing persons cases, he goes for the telegenic ones that will attract more tabloid media and more bloggers and thus more donations.

My greatest fear is that his lack of expertise, intelligence, and judgment have jeopardized the investigations he has participated in. I am not familiar with all of his heroic efforts, but his involvement in the Haleigh, Caylee, and Natalee cases has left me with little confidence that there will be successful prosecutions.

    22. cvc on October 7th, 2010 11:18 am

OMG, the jib jab that carpe posted on the forum of Anita is priceless!!!! Aruba can keep inviting her to parties and taking her photo if we can continue to have this much fun with it. Dear Lord, what do you suppose she would consider an occasion important enough for her to wash her hair and to strap those monsters into a bra? Don’t you know that the children at the International School in Aruba make fun of her behind her back and laugh at her? Poor Anita, jiggling for eternity on SM. Karma is truly a b**ch. Carpe should be on Comedy Central, he is so much funnier than anyone on that channel. Thanks Carpe, you made my day. All of this is of course JMO. I realize that some people may think it is un-Christian and wouldn’t find it funny, but I sincerely hope Beth gets a much deserved chuckle from it. And quite frankly, you are inviting it when you go out dressed like that, especially when you are with your teenage son and the children you teach. Have fun with this kids!

    23. Mary UK on November 16th, 2010 3:18 pm

I agree with those that have posted regarding TM, I agree that he should keep his mouth firmly SHUT!! If his organization bring comfort to him because of what happened to his daughter then it is all good BUT he aint a qualified investigator, he should not become the story!!

    24. glad2bAmerican on November 21st, 2010 2:55 pm

Tim Miller & TES have and has done great work helping families. Sorry about Tim losing a child and also for John Walsh from AMW…all do what they can with donations and tips for very good reasons. Another posting I agree…Let me ask them this… For Five long yrs. Beth has fought not only to find her daughter but also to get the word out to young people across the nation to take heed, to be prepared, to find safety in numbers, to have a plan of action in case of trouble and to be safe when traveling outside the US.
