Sour Grapes Ousted GOP Utah Senator Bob Bennett Says, ” GOP has many slogans, but few ideas”

File this one under, do you think Bob Bennett would be saying this if he had won the GOP nomination for US Senate? I guess Bennett does not think that “Hope & Change” is nothing more than a mere slogan with no ideas.

Talk about your sour grapes from ousted Utah Senator Bob Bennett who was defeated at the Republican convention by and left off the final ballot to retain his Senate seat as Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater were the final two standing.

The sore loser GOP Senator stated “the GOP had many slogans, but not very many ideas”to the Ripon Society, a moderate-leaning GOP group. Well then, I guess the Utah folks did the right thing at the Republican party convention and ridded them self of this malcontent. But I guess he was different. If he had been picked to run again as the GOP candidate for Senator, all would have been well and the Republicans would have had a plethora of ideas.

“As I look out at the political landscape now, I find plenty of slogans on the Republican side, but not very many ideas,” Bennett said, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune. “Indeed, if you raise specific ideas and solutions, as I’ve tried to do on health care with [Oregon Democratic Sen.] Ron Wyden, you are attacked with the same vigor as we’ve seen in American politics all the way back to slavery and polygamy; you are attacked as being a wimp, insufficiently pure, and unreliable.”

It does not matter whether they are Republicans, Democrats or Independents … these Senators some how think they are of privilege and entitled to be in the Senate for life. It’s all about their power, not about the people and GOP sous grapes Bennett is no different. Check out his comments after his loss and how he thinks he is the only one who can be a Senator from Utah.

After his Tea Party-spurred defeat in May, Bennett said his loss was not “logical” and later advised his successor that he will likely not have much influence on Capitol Hill.

Observers have pointed to Bennett’s defeat as a sign of widespread anti-incumbent anger this midterm election cycle. Bennett came under fire partly over his negotiations with Wyden on healthcare and his vote for the banking bailouts in 2008.

Even though he has backed Tea Party-endorsed candidate Tim Bridgewater, he expressed worry that his successor will be too beholden to the party base.

It rings rather hollow that lame duck Utah Senator Bob Bennett would say that the GOP is full of slogans and short on ideas after witnessing Barack Obama’s “Hope & Change” slogans and either his no or dangerous ideas on how to fix the economy, budget, deficit, illegal immigration, health care, the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan and provide any leadership in the BP oil crisis.

Bennett went on to say that the Republicans would win back the House, but then what. Gee Senator Bennett, the GOP might just win back the House of Representatives; however, with no help from you and your Judas comments.

The fact of the matter is that Bennett is a perfect example of why the political mood in the country is to get rid of incumbents. Every Senator thinks they are the next Robert Byrd, Ted Kennedy or Strom Thurmond who is entitled to spend 40 to 50+ years in the Senate. Good riddance.

Republican candidate Mike Lee beat Tim Bridgewater 51% to 49%  in an upset to win the GOP nomination for US Senate in Utah. Presently Lee has an overwhelming 30% point lead in the latest Rasmussen poll over Democrat candidate Sam Granato.

BTW, did we say good riddance Bob Bennett.
