60% of All Americans In Favor of New Arizona Illegal Immigration Law … Police Stop and Verify Immigration Status

 

Just the other day a Rasmussen poll showed that 70% of Arizona voters were in favor of the new illegal immigration law signed by AZ Gov. Jan Brewer to make it a state law for an individual to be in the United States illegally.

Now Rasmussen has done a national poll where 60% of American voters are in favor of allowing local police to stop and verify an individuals immigration status.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer last week signed a new law into effect that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of voters nationwide favor such a law, while 31% are opposed.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans support the law along with 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democratic voters are evenly divided on the measure.

Although 58% of those polled think that some Americans civil rights might be violated, 56% believe it is unlikely Congress will take action to gain control of the border. The federal government has no one but themselves to blame for not protecting our borders against illegal immigration and its citizens.

The Democrats and Obama have called the law misguided and irresponsible. However, who is it that is being irresponsible by fanning the flames of racism for their own political gain? Jammie Wearing Fool has an interesting interpretation of the poll. They state that the “Poll Finds Half the Democrats Are Racist, Nazi, Apartheid Supporters”.  Indeed.

So the Arizona law is like Nazi Germany, really? Hey Al, take a history lesson you race baiter. Funny, being a history major with a concentration in WWII and US foreign policy I missed it where the extermination of the Jews at the hands of the Nazis was the same as protecting the borders from people who entered the United States illegally.

Oh and by the way, where is the MSM reporting the violence spouting up in the demonstrations against the AZ illegal immigration law? They are so quick to report on the Tea Parties causing violence. It looks like it takes the Gateway Pundit to report the truth and be “fair and balanced”.

In the end we once again have Democrats and Obama on the wrong side of the major issues of the day. As Powerline states, the voters hate government medicine … they are against Cap & Trade, … how do We the People feel about immigration?

Exit Question: What issues is the Democrat party agree with a majority of Americans these days? Appears to be little to none.

Define misguided. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano going out after a state bill and calling it misguided (I guess those are the Obama talking points) when it is her job to secure the borders to individuals do not get into the country. Might we also add Janet, what did you do in office to secure the border when you were governor of AZ? Nada.

      I just don’t understand the enforcement…are all citizens now required to carry identification in AZ? The implications of that are huge. What will happen when we deport a citizen on accident?

      They say they won’t racially profile, but that doesn’t pass the common sense test, unless someone like myself stands the risk of being shipped off Europe somewhere for not having a US passport on me.

      What does an illegal look like?

      Everyone knows this is election year pandering to an old white Republican base by a scared Republican Governor who is afraid of a primary challenge. To deny this is to deny reality.

      The emerging majority-minority will be THE dominant force in American politics in the very near future and Republicans are patting themselves on the back for standing on the wrong side of history.

      It’s pretty easy to tell who the illegals are. Tip #1…if you don’t speak English, you probably weren’t born here! If you came here illegally, you are a criminal. PERIOD. Considering the explosive growth of our population due to this illegal scum, our environment is being destroyed. Where are the environmentalists on this?

      The illegal immigrants are shooting at the border patrol, there are bullet holes all over their vehicles, that is one extremely dangerous job….the illegals do not belong here…builders are really guilty about hiring them, it’s cheap labor…someone told that when they were building there new home, along with others, someone showed up, got out of their car and yelled immigration and all the Mexicans scattered and ran into the woods…the poor rancher that was out on his land checking his water lines was shot and killed and his dog was critically wounded….

      There has to be an illegal immigration law….the illegals just don’t want to get caught and deported…

      The illegals are protesting in AZ just because they are afraid they are going to get caught

      When I entered kindergarten – I was put into a class for the mentally retarded. I lived in a neighborhood with a growing population of families of mexican descen and my teacher assumed I did not speak English and required special bilingual support which I did not -I spoke Engish and Spanish well for my age. Yes – I was a Mexican-American citizen.

      It literally took 2 weeks for my parents to force the school to place me in the mainstream kindergarten class — even though I could respond to questions in English. At the time if was easier for frustrated- overworked teachers (not bad people) to send me to the special needs class – no questions asked. Although the error was corrected, as a child I never lost the feeling I was not welcomed and somehow my rights as a citizen were not equal to those of white americans. Be careful – children are watching.

      It’s important to note that this is a “Rasmussen” poll. Rasmussen polls are not valid.

      I’ve heard a few differing opinions on this topic recently.

      A couple of folks I met just the other day who hailed from Arizona explained how the police there are not allowed to ask for ID even if they are arresting the person. That doesn’t seem to make sense to me and I am definitely for fixing that.

      On the other hand if they are allowed to ask for it just on suspicion, I can’t get behind that.

      It seems the direction of this law is to better coordinate the Federal police with the State and Locals. That makes sense to me.

      Either way a Rasmussen poll is a biased poll and therefore not valid.

      My understanding of the AZ law is that only if you are NOT a citizen, do you have to carry papers proving you are here legally. In other words if you were a foreigner here legally on a work or student permit, you would have to carry papers showing this legal entitlement. But also note that a simply legal drivers’ license will do the trick.

      The point should be that with a disastrous economy and states needing to raise taxes just to get by – shouldn’t we ensure those receiving the benefits paid by the taxpayers ARE here legally?

      Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is a hero. ARIZONA has a massive CRIME problem. But, I doubt the police will be able to enforce the law. It will just move the flow of illegals towards TEXAS, and California. The fence was working til they stopped building it!

      I had an uncle (Tx boarder guard) killed years ago by illegals crossing the boarder. Personally, I’d say put sharpshooters on the fence but I’d be considered heartless….oh well. I see the amount of “heart” my uncle was afforded when shot twice in the head by unknown ILLEGALS who may still be in this country. They took his service revolver and it too has never been recovered.

      Who wants to let the boarder remain open? Let them live on it.

      Has anyone here thought about organizing a book drive to stockpile dictionaries to hand out at Tea Party demonstrations? I think it’s a great idea. People might take you more seriously if you could express yourselves more fluently. I used to teach in an inner-city school in Houston, and the kids there used better English!

      The other states need to do what AZ is doing. Why is it everyone assumes it just the hispanics that AZ is after. It doesn’t say any where it’s just hispanics they can stop. It says illegals period finished.
      If you come to the USA without the proper paper work you are an illegal. They come to the USA for a better life. But they are unwilling to assimilate into our culture and our way of life.

      We the people are tired of having our rights taken away by people that only want to take and not give back. I am talking about all illegals.

      For the people living in fear on our border states because of the violence from these people. It’s time to stand up and be counted. And you if you want to call it profiling so be it. They have broken the law by coming into the USA without following the proper channels. And makes it double hard for the people that want to do it the right way.

      Good for Arizona to make the federal goverment take notice that they HAVE NOT done the job on immegration since the Carter administration. Carter appointed a Mexican-American as head of the immegration department and he immediately took measures to keep the borders open.
      All the liberal idiots need to understand that anyone no matter what country they are from performs an illegal entry when they cross our borders without permission. Under U.S. law, they have committed a crime. Therefore, if a sheriff’s deputy stops them in Arizona for any reason and they are asked for papers and don’t have any, they deputy can arrest them.
      Local law enforcement has been handicapted by the feds from arresting illegals in all the border states. This new law simply mirrors the federal statue with but one change and that change gives state and local LE the power to make the arrest and keep the feds out of the loop.
      Our federal government has given more rights to the illegals than our own citizens enjoy. It is time to put an end to this behavior.

      Ranchers have lost cattle and other animals to these people because they are hungry. In case your english is good enough, that act is theft. Taking something without permission is theft. Entering the United States without permission is a crime.

      Gigi, we are not writing term papers or business correspondence here. It would be wonderful if we all were able to be as perfect as you, however, the world just isn’t that way.       Which does not cover criminal aliens.
      There is no violation of “civil rights” when there is no citizen involved.

      Plus, if we’re going to mention “equal protection” laws, how about some equal protection for the Legal citizens of Arizona (and the other 49 states negatively impacted by massive illegal immigration)?

      This law is not “against” anybody; it is for the law, for our citizens, for the Constitutional and common sense position that Americans ought to determine the terms and conditions of entry and residence in our nation. We are all sons and daughters of immigration. Legal immigration.
      Politically, this is going to be a bigger, nastier fight than ObaMedicine.

      For Obama, this is personal – because Amnesty, Citizenship and the Vote for tens of millions of illegal’s is how the President replaces Your vote in 2012, and gets re-elected. For Obamunists, this is political steel cage life and death match.
      Short term, anybody who supports the Constitution is going to be absolutely reviled and smeared by the entirety of the establishment media – and some of our friends and neighbors.

      Expect the cries of “Racism” directed at the Tea Movement to become much louder. (Please read between the lines as to what these cries really mean! ) But long term this is for Obama & the Democrats a political loser on a cosmic scale.

      Anyways…doesn’t anyone find it odd that a state can criminalize an individual’s immigration status when the state has no power to prescribe or modify that individual’s immigration status in the first place? Anyone? The AZ law is preempted and will be struck down.

      Question for those that feel that the federal enforcement of immigration laws is inadequate: What objective measure would you use to determine the adequacy of the enforcement of federal immigration law? Number of people deported? Estimates of the number of new unlawful immigrants that entered the country in a given time period? A ratio of these two numbers? Obviously a very big, and very serious problem has developed over the previous three administrations (The right-wing God Reagan ran an amnesty program so that’s about as far back that’s sensible), so what objective measure should the Obama administration be held to determine the effectiveness of its enforcement measures?

      Let’s face it, any law enforcement activity is constrained by the availability of resources and thus prioritization of where and when enforcement is conducted is inevitable.

      So…what changes to the allocation of enforcement resources should be made?

      Do you see the KEY words…BORN or NATURALIZED.

      Now, let’s see…are these criminals; people looking for a free ride born or naturalized?

      How clear can it be? These people are not citizens thus are not protected by this Amendment that you loserly threw out there like you have some credibility. All you have to do is read the first few lines and the rest does not apply to these people.

      If you are not a citizen you don’t have procedural due process either. Everything framed around this amendment deals with being born or naturalized in the United States

      Better yet; the 14th Amendment gives power to the states which is known as the incorporation doctrine; which again does not make this wonderful Arizona law; backed by 60% of Americans unconstitional.

      Maybe if Mexico were to step up to plate and actually make Mexico a place for their citizens to want to live and not some squaller drug fueled country ran by drug cartels; and got some control of their migrant problem in the first place!

      Instead of shoving $4 TRILLION dollars of wasted tax payer money on the PROVEN DID NOT WORK now over $860B STIMULUS; the other $250B in TARP; the $1 TRILLION HEALTHSCARE which has been proven that it will drive up costs and cost on the low end another $560B over the next five years; those funds should be allocated; but nonetheless; the federal government can not constitutitonally over turn a right given to the states by the 14th Amendment.

      Keep spinning the actual meaning of the Constitutional and it’s Bill of Rights…

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

      Can you read the last part where it says “person”?
      Gee, I wonder why it does not say “citizen”? Lol.

      I’m sure you would agree the Supreme Court has been fairly consistent in saying that state laws which impose penalties for violations of federal law are unconstitutional. States cannot impose additional penalties beyond those the Congress has determined to be appropriate.

      Where does it says people who come to this country illegally are covered in this Amendment or anywhere in the Constitution.

      What penalties are being imposed on actual citizens? ZERO.

      #49-YoYo—instead of arguing or insisting you are correct—-why don’t you verify with any Political Major, Professor or Political Professional for the answer? If you don’t believe us check with the experts and you will see that you are wrong.

      While Scott also points out that enforcement of the law could bring about some grey areas—it’s pretty clear—someone can’t be pulled over or asked to produce ID based upon their ethnicity only. Listen, teenagers of all ethnic backgrounds driving here in the suburbs & cities get pulled over all the time for “nothing.” We know that LE is simply spot checking their vehicles for alcohol & drugs, but I for one am glad they do (especially now, around Prom time.) Amazing what they find and the potential lives they save. Starting with the lives of those they are pulling over to begin with.

      Back to the point—check with others if you don’t take our word for it. You won’t though—you’d rather argue and call us ignorant idiots instead of taking the time do to proper research. This has nothing to do with a point of view or opinion. This is pretty cut and dry.

      Check it out, stop your whining, VERIFY THE FACTS WITH THOSE IN THE KNOW and basically just grow up.
