Blue Dog Bolts the Dems for Minority Republican Party

Blue dog Democrat, Alabama US Representative Parker Griffith has switched from a Democrat to a Republican. Hmm … is this really an Epiphany by a Blue dog not to be a Pelosi lap dog or is it a rat scurrying off a sinking ship trying to save his political hide? This type of conversion might have provided one political cover in the past in the Republican party; however, Tea Party go’ers is a bit more skeptical. Just because you have an “R” at the end of your name does not make you a Republican. The 2010 midterm elections set up to be a Donkey roast.

Blue dog Griffith blamed Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for the switch.

Democratic Rep. Parker Griffith announced Tuesday that he’s switching parties – saying he can no longer align himself “with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy and drives us further and further into debt.”

“Unfortunately there are those in the Democratic Leadership that continue to push an agenda focused on massive new spending, tax increases, bailouts and a health care bill that is bad for our healthcare system,” Griffith said in a statement. “I have always considered myself to be an independent voice and I have tried to be that voice in Congress – but after watching this agenda firsthand I now believe that the differences in the two parties could not be more clear and that for me to be true to my core beliefs and values I must align myself with the Republican party and speak out clearly on these issues.

Not only is the trend that Barack Obama and Democrats poll numbers are tanking, it is also that Democrats are fleeing and retiring prior to the 2010 massacre.

It is quite an amazing commentary on Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid’s partisan politics. Blue Dog switches parties to join the minority? Hmm.  The notion that a US Rep would switch to another party when the Dems held such a complete strangle hold in the House says two things. One, Parker Griffith has had enough and he can’t take any more and Griffith sees the hand writing on the wall and the carnage about to take place as a backlash against Democrats.

Griffith, a freshman from Alabama’s 5th congressional district, has often quarreled with Democratic House leadership during his first year in Congress. Cantor says that the political disconnect between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and moderate Democrats is “striking.”

“Anytime that a member of the 258-seat majority decides to switch to a party in deep-minority status is a major example of trouble on the other side of the aisle,” says Cantor. “For someone to say that he can’t live under Democratic rule in the House really raises some eyebrows. Park this news with the recent retirements of Blue Dog Democrats and you really see an increase in momentum for Republicans. Moderates don’t see a place for themselves in this Democratic party.”

I’m not impressed with either party at the moment. We need a Congress & President that represents “the people” and will uphold the Constitution.

      UP YOUR KNOW-HOW
Leonard Read, the Founder of FEE, used to say “Improve you before trying to improve others.” It is embarrassing to argue with someone who appears to know more and grinds you into the dust. Yet, in politics, it is easy to find the roots of all arguments and see how issues follow those roots. That’s what I’ve tried to provide on claysamerica.com. If you know the roots, where the yellow brick road begins, you know better how to reach the conclusions you seek. You can take a reasoned position without passion and injury, and be the “go to” person in your circle. Try it and see. Claysamerica.com

I remember when US Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama switched from Democrat to Republican back in 1994. At that time, I was a Democrat myself and was outraged! Thank goodness we “saw the light” :-) Way to go Griffith!

Hmmm, who do you suppose Griffith voted for President? Looks to me like he is just trying to get in office next election. He shoulda thought about this before
